  1. 37000 miles, one owner, like new inside and out. Been in a garage since 2010 Drove home. Needs very little, tyres and a full service. Gonna start a thread for it in the non-skoda section methinks
  2. I was wondering if the forum's only for helping others fix cars, why people bother with the Health Hub or any of the other sub fora? There's forums for fixing cars, forums for photography, forums for having a laugh or sharing sorrow etc etc. You don't have to talk about things other than cars if you don't want to. There's something for everyone on Briskoda. Probably why it's so popular and long may it continue to be so
  3. Wow that's an amazing find! Takes me back to the early 90s when my mate had an impreza (non turbo sport but still a cracking car at the time) Presumably 1.2 fwd given no button on the gearstick?
  4. There's no problem at all with the National Grid, it's a great idea. However, the post was making the point that because the vehicle was being charged up in Scotland, it would not be causing the burning of fossil fuels, whereas in England it would. If you think that's how the National Grid works, I'm going to need to get the crayons out...
  5. Thanks George. It became clear to me, quite a while ago, that the offering from SAIC are of a different quality, dealer network, potential volume that they can produce from the general perception of "Chinese" goods that are output by that industrial super power. Both the cars coming out with the MG badge and the vans with the LDV/Maxus, being bought and used by the thousands by companies like DPD UK appear to be of generally acceptable quality and notably very good value and represent a turning point in what are group of significant players in the EV market and therefore the overall car and van market in the UK and beyond.
  6. ^^^ Seems not that far! The EV MINI hatchbacks & new Small SUV MINI Electric will be getting built in China. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-63269974 The real issue being is it not likely to be that small and it will not be a SUV it will just be tall.
  7. good jezus this derailed quickly after a revival!
  8. I would keep them on to be honest. The occasional phantom inclident (if caused by a leaf/crisp packet) is worth it for the things it might well save you from if it is off. It stopped me forwarding into my garage door some time ago and also stopped me reversing into a low wall. If it keeps happening then it is faulty and may need repairing.
  9. Change that before even thinking about a new motor then.
  10. Never mind wyx, I'll pop you on my ignore list and trouble you no further. G'night and goodbye.
  11. I see the point of car forums as helping others to fix their cars. I see using them to try to promote political or ideological stances as misuse, basically.
  12. I'm puzzled, why is influencing people toward EV has anything to do with spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt? If anything, it's removing fear, clarifying uncertainty and doubt by presenting facts through official or well researched sources. Please do elaborate on your reasoning. I'm afraid I'm not following.
  13. No, I am simply writing replies to your statements. There's no prepared replies to anything other than wanting to seek out truth from tabloid headlines. If you are not prepared to stand behind your statements, then don't make them. It's that simple. If you make any statements, then provide sources, otherwise you are just a simple armchair keyboard warrior that has zero credibility.
  14. Update: The car went into the garage again last week. They found a secondary coolant leak caused by a broken clip on a hose which was replaced. I drove 300 miles over the weekend and the coolant level appears to be holding steady. Fingers crossed it stays this way. Thanks for everyone's comments and advice!
  15. This is my new to me 1992 Subaru Justy. It's a 1l Carbureted version and while most were 4wd, this one is front wheel drive. It is a one owner car with 37000 miles, bought new from my work in 1992. Has been sat in a barn since 2010, started up and drove back to my work. Very stale fuel in it but it runs and drives well considering. Interiors like new inside Engine bays dirty but original. Original Spare tyre even Did sit outside for about a week before I could get it home, happily seems pretty watertight. Up on the lift before I got it home, solid underneath and the mid section of the exhaust is brand new. The weather turned ****e so it went into the garage later. Not long after I took this pic, I took a quick trip to roscommon to pick up a powerflow (stainless) backbox for this, the backbox is actually solid but the tailpipe looks a bit crumbly. All I have done to it so far is put a new battery in it. Have Ordered/Got: -Fuel Filter -Oil and Filter -Air Filter -Backbox Definitely needs tyres as these are ancient Michelins, 145R12, no profile on them. Original fit michelins can still be got but they're 90 euro each plus fitting. Probably get something a bit less than that. So far as I can tell, everything works as it should. Even the original radio works. This won't take much to get it good for the road, If I'm less than a grand into it at the end, I'll be happy.
  16. So did some investigating to find out why the trap speeds were low the last time it was out, with some help from a couple of the guys at darkside and noticed injector devation on cylinder 2 was off. Pulled the injectors sent them down to get tested came back fine. Swapped the injectors around still showing issue in cylinder 2. Noticed it then started to use oil as much as a MK2 Fabia vRS does. Check the turbo seals all ok car still had plenty of power as it would spin the tyres in 3rd but oil consumpsion slightly concerning. Got bored and moved onto helping other folk with their projects such as 8 second passes at pod and drift cars. Thought id revisit the Fabia after the sessions had finished a couple of months back. Truck it on a truck and sent it down to Darkside who started looking into it and low and behold we found this 😂 guess that explains the oil consumpsion issue then. Also always had an issue with getting 5th gear in the 6 speed box (used to have to double clutch it going into 5th) never really thought much of it but the guys at Darkside always like to make sure everythings perfect and right for the cars when they leave so they had a look at it and this is what we found. So one of the spare gearboxes from their world record holding Arosa drag car was swiftly stolen and stuck in the Fabia. And now it's came back home, Both me and Darkside are determinded this car isn't going to die 🤣 back down in a few weeks for some extra custom interior bits
  17. Do you hold any button for 5 s after removing the battery ?
  18. Funny thing, the choke on this will ""cancel"" itself once the engine starts to warm up According to the owners manual, that feature is exclusive to UK spec cars (including ireland)
  19. A new CR2025 should be higher than 3.0V, perhaps at least 3.3V.
  20. Do you have a picture? I'm not aware of any change in rear damper springs dimensions from early Favorits to the Felicia. But I think I read about early model dampers with separate cups - not sure if they were front, rear or which model year... VW VIN format has model year on 10th place. I never checked whether that works for Favorit, too, but you can give it a try. N - 92 P - 93 R - 94 Note, the model year starts in summer of the previous year, so MR94 was produced from summer 93 to summer 94.
  21. @StevesTruck Have you lost your crayons? Use your brains now because it is never going to happen that the UK will be environmentally friendly. Grow your own food and make your own energy. Start with making your own ethanol from potatoes & veg you grow, I will just continue to stay in a resource rich north and use what i need and not care too much about the environment as long as i am OK because others are just wasting resources. I like 'Much Cheapness' and poking a stick at those stupid enough to to not use the brains they were born with.
  22. Take a look at the Application https://www.nanodatex.com/o/687958-rear-shock-absorber-l-p-skoda-favorit-felicia You have bought something like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232126403088 What's the ETKA number? Some CZ (except the one that you bought) and Poland stores have many parts for our cars which can not find them elsewere.
  23. http://gridwatch.co.uk In 2020 17.1% of England's total Electricity consumption came from Scotland. A country that has only 8% of the population. That was just the Electricity, there is the Gas & Oil as well to take into account. http://yes.scot/renewables-powerhouse We know it is not how the National Grid works. But seeing as the 1 nuclear plant can produce 3/4 of all the needs for homes in Scotland and then Scotland produces many times more than it needs for Homes, Business & Industry and lots of that is exported even abroad to be sold cheaper than in the UK that is worth considering. Scotland does on occasion require the National Grid to boost energy to Scotland, that is while energy is on its way out to France & Ireland that is how the contracts work.. That is bringing in energy at a higher price than the energy going out. The Pumped Hydro is used at peak times and keeps the lights on down south and then the water needs pumped back up. The Wind Farms are paid often to not generate electricity while expensive electricity is Imported because there are contracts requiring the National Grid a non UK Company to import from abroad. ...................... The Solar at charging hubs like Stirling would not produce enough electricity if the chargers were all being used, but so far i have yet to see even a 1/4 occupied, and with the battery storage the electricity is there only needing more from the many wind farms in the area. More of these type of hubs should have wind turbines on site and these are going up in places. Scotland has under 6 million people & producing enough energy and extra is pretty easy with so much land and sea. Lots of the Energy Produced is not for the general population, it is for Industry. The high polluters in Scotland including the Oil & Gas industry. That is produce fuels for transportation, road, rail, sea and air. http://enough.scot/2022/10/05/scotlands-top-20-polluters That industry is important, it is jobs and taxes and revenue Scotland needs, but that the treasury gets first. So as far as Green Energy in Scotland there is many many more times what the population of Scotland requires, and more every year.
  24. I have lost track of who hates, disagrees, agrees, understands and ignores who. My initial post didn’t differentiate between EV’s and ICE’s, just the inner feeling of buying something you can buy from elsewhere from a country which is an international pariah but continues to get away with it because the west depends on their goods. An inappropriate part of me would like them to attack Taiwan because it would be a disaster for them but also unfortunately for the rest of humanity.
  25. My gut says it's running on 2 cylinders and it definitely sounds wrong when idling, and has much less power than it used to. Actually sounds like a cheap lawnmower! 😂 I'll use the link and see.if I can arrange anything. I've really appreciated all your help. I'll keep you posted. Have a good evening. 👍
  26. Just be aware that in the event of an accident, your insurance company could take the view that an accident was 'preventable' if the front assist had been active - they might consider apportioning some fault to you if the system was deactivated.
  27. Thanks again to everyone about crisp packet braking..on reflection about reversing and sudden braking, I was turning to come off my drive, so couldve picked up the low side fencing...but to sum it up, about having "automatic" braking...it is something, I have never had, I have always driven with plenty of stopping distance between myself and car in front...so, on balance, I will perhaps reduce sensitivity, give it one chance..if it happens again...it's off. Cheers everyone
  28. As far as I can tell, yes.
  29. Well mine does! While reversing up a narrow unfamiliar lane it put the brakes on and displayed the red alarm thing. On inspection I was about to hit a rock jutting out low down. It does occasionally display the red warning thing when nothing appears to be near but when regularly passing over a very narrow bridge with inches to spare each side it stays silent. So summarising it is worth having but prone to phantom triggers.

Looks to be a duplicate of this thread:
  31. I'd guess that it came to be as a theory like this: One or two people fitted blanking plates at the top end of the pipe, because it's easier than bottom end or both. In doing so, they moved about the flexi section of the poor old pipe beyond its aged range of movement and without noticing cracked it. They then developed an exhaust leak as the crack widened. Try the vac pipe, see how it goes. I can't see blanking plate(s) having any advantage over a closed valve.
  32. That would make no sense at all with this engine. It's a major operation to replace either, and only worth considering really if no other engine damage has occurred. However, this is all very premature because until more evidence is acquired, chain slip isn't diagnosed, it's just guessed.
  33. Very true. England's lack of planning & actions need not hold back Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland though in the getting to Net Zero and reducing pollution. England needs to get on with Energy Security considering how much it needs to import. Now there are Communities and charging hubs with Turbines for Hydro & Wind generation of electricity and battery storage with no connection to the grid, and there are more and more of those being built, and lots in Scotland. There are Island Communities that have had no National Grid connection to the mainland for years now and are producing electricity and hydrogen from that and using & exporting the hydrogen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_stations_in_Scotland Just 1 Nuclear power station now and it is due to decommission in 2 years time. http://newcivilengineer.com/latest/3-4bn-undersea-electricity-superhighway-between-scotland-and-north-england-moves-forward-31-03-2022 http://nationalgrid.com/electricity-transmission/network-and-infrastructure/segl2 http://nsenergybusiness.com/projects/eastern-hvdc-link/# The National Grids problem is storage of electricity. but then they know the partial solution. http://electrek.co/2022/01/26/europes-largest-grid-connected-battery-storage-facilities-will-be-set-up-in-scotland http://scottishconstructionnow.com/articles/angus-council-not-opposed-to-ps40m-battery-storage-plant Obviously a National Grid issue is that England needs Gas & Oil & Coal Power Stations and Wood Pellet burning to produce electricity for the grid and there is a concern over gas shortages. That Electricity produced from Gas is also get used in huge amounts producing energy to power cracking plants producing road fuels as well as other petrochemicals.
  34. Turns out it was the alternator. Original one at 290k miles, so can’t complain.
  35. This is complete BS from your dealer. Skoda Germany have been replacing steering wheels for a year for Octavias with this issue. Mine got done in Carlisle with no particular need to put pressure get on the dealer in April. When I get to a proper computer I'll try to dig out the conversation we had back then.
  36. Fair enough. That's your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to it. But I politely remind you that everyone should be treated equal, I wasn't the first person promoting political stance in this thread. I personally see point of car forum to discuss cars. I feel I've done nothing else other than discuss different types of cars, EV in an EV subform. My opinion showed through and so did your opinion, and I think that's perfectly fine on a forum. When did sharing opinions about a specific thing on the specific sub-forum became "promote ideological stances"? But I don't see how this has got ANYTHING to do with FUD or influencing. I have been trying really hard to remove fear, uncertainty and doubt about EV's from misinformation, yet you say I'm hypocritical. You haven't really explained your reasoning for saying I'm hypocritical and how it links to influence people toward EV's. All I've been doing in this thread is try to provide as much factual information as possible and ask for clarification. Absolutely zero attempt at influencing......... no phases like "you should" or "you need to".
  37. I'm not seeking to reach agreement. I'm very interested why you would class influencing people toward EV the same as spreading FUD. It just feels as though you haven't got a good reason to back up your earlier claim that I was hypocritical. There has to be a reason to class someone as hypocritical, even if I may not agree, I'm interested.

Wheels back from Fusion Alloys. Fantastic service as always from them. Just waiting on Centre caps to arrive in the post now.
  39. Seems quite a reasonable response to the post that was about buying a Chinese car and a clean conscience which was posted without a winky thing.
  40. Will start mine probably this weekend. As my car doesn't have acoustic windows, i'm actually planning to add those. Of course side only. Hopefully tomorrow i will get parts (windows+seals). Since i will be anyway removing windows, will use mats inside of the door. Let's see what will be the result. For now only planning front door, and will see later. Probably trunk, rear door and front wheel arches.
  41. Proper Superb 4x4 weather this morning. Safe and speedy trip across the Mendips earlier! Neighbour’s Octy in the background.
  42. How anyone can buy a Chinese car with a clean conscience eludes me...
  43. Yep, no wideband on a 2009 BZG. I guess you are proposing to mix partial refills of E85 and E10 or E5 to get your suggested 40-50% ethanol. But why not just try it with increasing levels of fill/mix with E85 and E10 or whatever the standard petrol is there? If it starts running badly you'll know you've pushed too far in the direction of ethanol. Carry a spare 5 litre can of 'good' petrol so you can adjust the mix at the roadside.
  44. On the road... OK. Quite subtle pic... I admit it
  45. I think I need a new phone to help me take some better quality photos.
