  1. Greetings. No real progress this week apart from application of a Gel sticker which apparently is all the rage by kids in “the know” #instagramw@nker. Front exhaust hanger has been made by my fair hands and I’m welding that together Tuesday so that’ll finish off the exhaust completely.
  2. You sure it has a fuel pump? I would expect to see 4 connections on that plug, 2 for the pump and 2 for the fuel level sender. Unless the sender is somewhere else? That may explain the 4V, that will be from the ECU for the fuel gauge?
  3. So today was rather good. Drove down to Kirkcudbright to drop off some steel wheels and swap my seats for some Bohemia ones. Met a fellow Fabia enthusiast in the process. Fabia earned its keep as my wee load lugger plus the trailer, drove sweet as a nut. Here's some photos of the seats, I'll grab better pictures in the morning, or whenever I remember. All in all, a good trip besides the trailer having causing a bit of a wobble on the way home. It stopped after I pulled in for a bit, not sure what caused that. Will investigate in time. I even managed 40mpg or so as well, so I'll call that an added bonus. I still haven't got around to fitting the new window motor as I haven't been bothered at the moment, I'll get around to it... eventually. Quite pleased with the way things have gone recently, just the electric windows to get sorted and this wee car will be on top form, or something to that degree.
  4. Timing belt failure is nearly never related to 'local trips' or taking it easy... Not something id at all recommend. Personally I never like to comment on whether someone should or shouldnt change a timing belt as i cant see the car in front of me and dont know if there are any other factors that might cause early failure. Thats just my thoughts, Stick to the service intervals and change early if the belt is damaged or contaminated. Belts can wear from mileage and also from age and perishing. Same as ive said above, just cause a car is lightly used doesnt mean a rubber belt cant perish with age, just something to be aware of. Im not saying any of these belts need changing, nor that they dont need changing, just that its hard to judge a yes/no over the internet.
  5. Just checking - did you make sure you gapped them correctly? Gaz

Quite a week of driving! Rusty is running beautifully, pulling hard up to the red line, no running issues. Third gear overtakes are a joy! So happy with the way it’s running now. A 1250km week of driving to work events has been an excellent test.
  8. Hi The 7 pin trailer socket design goes back decades, and has the design weakness of only one shared earth pin for all the lights. With the exposed location and the use of plain brass, its very common to get tarnishing and high resistance, and if this happens to the earth pin you get all sorts of odd interactions between the different lights. Anyone calling themeselves a towbar electrics specialist should be more than familiar with this effect. The newer 13 pin sockets seem to have carried over the idea of just one earth pin. Whoever designed it clearly didn't own a trailer !
  9. Just a little project thread showing the SE my partner bought back in June 2018, Fabia vRS SE #532. Only a few subtle changes here and there since then. This was when she first picked it up and we decided to take both the Fabia’s for a drive:
  10. What do you guys think? Before and after shots attached.
  11. Ahem: The clue is in the title Ken...
  12. Please post a pic of the car before & after. I can't decide between eibach pro kit and h&r.
  13. Yep loads of us mate. I’ve moved onto a superb sport line 272 now and the h&r are on that now because I was so impressed with them on the octy
  14. Its very simple and i can even send you pdf that is a case study on Leuchte channels. Basically find the free channel, connect the pin, set Lasttyp to general, set a bit and byte, set AB to highbeam and dimmwert to 127 and away you go...
  15. When is this guy appearing on CBBC, and which children's story will he be reading?
  16. This is correct, but very very easy to do. Pull the required BCM connector, Normally C - then with a '000 979 009 E or 000 979 026 E' pin you just add it in the correct slot, run it under the dashboard and straight out into the engine bay.
  17. @SuperbTWM deserves the thanks more than I do, for putting us on the right track. 🙂
  18. Thanks, I understand now. It's just a sensor for fuel level. Injection pump does it all.
  19. More likely the Consumer Rights Act: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/advice/how-does-the-consumer-rights-act-protect-you-when-you-buy-a-car Gaz
  20. If they were error free, then you wouldnt have errors.... They may list them as error free but theyre clearly not removing the errors on your car, plus the ones from Halfords are rubbish. Take a look at Auxito on ebay, lots of people on here use their bulbs without issues. The only reason they would need coding is if youre fitting a different type of bulb without an error cancelling function.
  21. This justy is at my house not at the farm hence why I used a timing light, all I had at hand. I hadn't touched the coil before it died. I did change the plugs and clean up the contacts on the cap and rotor before however. Was driving it like that for a bit.
  22. @dcd Further to @nta16 comment. I agree about including engine/trans data in your profile (two 3 or 4 letter codes). He's done a good job of how to edit your profile.
  23. OK, fingers crossed it is fixed now. I'm pretty sure the water wasn't coming from the washer tube, as it did on my earlier Octavia. The pipe junction is more substantial than the earlier one and there was no sign of leakage. However, the big rubber vent mentioned above was loose in its fitting, and when I looked more carefully today I saw that there are two clips on each side of the unit which were not engaged. You can see the nearer two in the photo above. I clipped them all in place and immediately noticed residual water squeezing out of the foam rubber seal on the back of the vent... There are several videos on YouTube about the Golf problem @pikpilot mentioned, and it seems as though on the Golf the water originates in the roof gutters and gets to the vent via the back lights. I don't think that can happen on the Octavia. However, I remember a few weeks ago hitting a puddle in the Lake District a bit faster than I intended, and it turned out to be a bit deeper than I thought. On the Octavia the boot vent opens into a void between the inner and outer bodywork just behind the wheelarch, and without taking the exhaust box off to have a look, it appears likely that water could get jetted into there in those circumstances. So, boot and spare wheel well dry, brake light working correctly, all the internal panelling back in place (finally). I'll report back if it turns out not to have worked. Thanks for your help, @pikpilot.
  24. Yes. They appear to be in great condition too. Pulled back the bellows, diconnected, inspected, reconnected. All appears fine but still no power to the door.
  25. Some values and information that could be useful to our subject. Once the load threshold of the diesel particulate filter has been reached, the exhaust gas temperature is lowered by the engine management system. This is necessary because the particulates accumulating oxidise into carbon dioxide in a temperature range between 600 and 650 °C. (For diesel fuels covered by DIN EN 590, the combustion of particles is possible at a lower temperature, at approx. 500 - 550 °C, as the fuel contains additives. These additives reduce the required temperature for burning the soot). So better quality diesel will have a lower burn temperature. Here is the image for the 1,000km self-test that doesn't bother about measured values

@Darcy-Actual - depending on what spec you are after, it’s always worth looking on the Skoda UK website “available cars”. Currently there are 42 Octavia estates and 26 Superb estates shown as available for immediate delivery. also it can be worth looking on dealers own websites - for example, Simpsons Skoda site shows brand new cars they have in stock for immediate delivery. It can also be worth visiting local dealers to see what they have got… Why I hear you ask…. Well, I was after a new Octavia VRS 245 petrol DSG estate about a month ago. I walked into my nearest dealer and almost unbelievably there was a new, Magic black, 245 petrol with DSG sat there in the showroom. It was a cancelled order that had landed a couple of days earlier, the guy who ordered it got fed up with waiting and bought an ex demo car instead. I really hadn’t expected the outcome I got, took about 10 minutes to get the order placed and delivery date fixed. to be honest I’d have specc’d it with a couple of add ones such as winter pack but was more than happy to forego that for immediate gratification 🤣 Good luck in your hunting. PS - Have had a Superb estate in the past, and if that’s what you go for then I’m confident you’ll love it. I regretted selling mine within 48 hours 😭
  27. I am suspicious about you using the test flash function on the timing light to test the coil, it would have been better to have used a multi-meter set to voltage and checked the voltage on either side of the ballast resistor with the points closed, also checking the resistance of the ballast resistor which could be the faulty item although in that case the engine would start but die when you release the key. You say you tested the coil on the second terminal, the wire that goes to the distributor and there was no voltage, was the wire connected to the distributor, if it was and the points were closed (more likely than not) then there would not be any voltage present. Had you by any chance removed and refitted the coil leads before the engine died? Running a ballasted coil on a 12v feed for more than a minute or so will cause the coil to overheat, normally misfiring but it could short a winding and burn out.
  28. Any luck in getting spark back?
  29. I find car cleaning quite therapeutic, my Octavia hasn’t been washed for quite a while now but going to give it a good session tomorrow.
  30. Upload to YouTube, then link to Briskoda using our link tool (chain icon).
  31. What sort of vibration/noise are you experiencing? I've done a lot of soundproofing on my own O4, I might be able to track it down for you if I could get a more detailed description 😉
  32. Depends on what you mean by a fair amount, and the conditions. The radiator will be closer to 90-100°C if stationary, so there would definitely be vapor coming off it if rain or any sort of water is left standing there. Other sources of quick steaming would be the turbocharger and the exhaust manifold, but those are behind the engine, not at the front grille. My old Golf 1.8T let off steam when I hosed it from the front, that's fully normal. Not a good idea hosing the turbo or exhaust manifold directly, though.
  33. Quite like the lights too. What are they, because some rectangular Bosch and Cibie units have (optional) covers from stockists?
  34. It's not so much about dealers, as about importers/distributors and manufacturer. They are not willin to pay dealerships for software upgrades, unless they are done to resolve some isues reported by a customer. It's all about the money... I bet dealership would be happy to upgrade, if it get's paid for the service. Under warranty it should be distributor that is paying, but... they are just not willing to, unless customer has some issue.
  35. Hi BritishBeef, I have the same issue with 2020 Octavia PHEV. When I had all possible errors (airbags, parking sensors, roadsign recognition, etc), dealer changed main entertainment module, as they described it. Then it got worse and after I came back, they applied another software update (it looks like international issue that dealers don't bother with software updates unless there are issues or you push on them), and most of the issues disappeared. But Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are still failing and giving errors, and the only answer I got from official Skoda workshop is that there is still no fix for that and they are waiting for update from Skoda. In the other topics on this forum you may see that other people have similar experience with Octavia. Funny enough, after Enyaqs were updated to ME3, software-wise they became very similar to Octavias and... they got the same issues with TA and EA failing.
  36. Also, I’d like to think the dealer would have applied ALL s/ware updates and fixes before selling it. Quite disappointing. Keep the pressure on the dealer to get everything fixed. The Octy4 is a lovely car, surprisingly economical (well, I was surprised anyway! My 1.5 tsi is pretty much on a par for mpg as my (two cars previous) Octy 2 1.6tdi; and much nicer place to be. Oh! And more importantly, welcome to the forums 😊👍
  37. They should be able to swap out the SOS unit under warranty. It’s a know problem and fixed I. Many a mk4, including mine.
  38. That looks like the most basic system (swing?) with the head unit in the dash. Can you confirm you don't have a unit in the glovebox? If you don't then it will probably be a better route to go aftermarket if you want carplay etc. If you have a unit in the glovebox then you should have a better route. Give @pab567 a shout. He is the guru with this stuff.
  39. @Sandgroper What TDI engine do you have? How many miles now done? Have you had it from new? You could well put off having this work / expense for a while if you are just doing local trips and driving easy.
  40. I have a ChromeCast Audio plugged into the back of a Connect which works well. I'm not sure I'd use an AirPort express though, they are pretty old and must be coming up to end of life now. Instead, something like the Belkin SoundForm might be a better option: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-SoundForm-Receiver-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B08YDTCNQH Alternatively, you could add a Sonos device that supports airplay and have it redirect to the Connect Just be careful of the S1 vs S2 compatibility stuffs...
  41. Yeah, i’ve used them before for my old rear brakes and the Brembo’s i’ve got.
  42. Refurbed 312’s and 256’s by BiggRed in Worcester.
  43. Me too They've got that je ne sais quoi about them 😎 Gaz
  44. I bought one 2016 , and its now covered 180,000 miles , only things changed, 1 temp sensor, 2 front drop links, alternator put a new clutch in even though it didn't need at 175,000 but wasn't wanting it to go , only changed the front discs at 150,000 rears at 130 k , cross climates lasting 50k Average fuel consumption 38 to 64 mpg , well pleased
  45. If it was built before November 2008, the right front indicator bulb is fed by a black/green wire. This originates from pin 6 of a black 11-way connector at the onboard power supply control unit (BCM). It goes to pin 9 of the 10-way connector at the headlamp unit. If there is also nothing from side light and main beam in that light cluster, check the earth from pin 7 of the 10-way as it is shared between those two and the turn signal bulb. I think the BCM unit is somewhere in front of your right knee if you drive a RHD car, and left knee on LHD. I'll have to leave detailed access information to someone who knows the Mk2 Octavia.
  46. Don't think you'll find a relay anywhere. They are driven by a microchip these days I believe. Inside the BCM. Most likely a wiring fault between BCM and bulb holder.
