  1. Night mode on my old Huawei p30 pro - virtually pitch black when I took the photo (hand-held 8 second exposure!)
  2. A picture from our New Years walk to Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons National Park earlier today.
  3. That reminds me.. I guess my favourite would be the one I've kept longest... My 1995 mk1 MX5 1.8is bought S/H in 1998. I still love driving it and it's been 100% reliable bar a set of HT leads shortly after I got it, a clutch slave cylinder about 10 years ago and a sized rear caliper about 15 years ago.
  4. Interesting thread and some good stuff in here. My answer would be: - most enjoyment in a short time span - Caterham Supersport - all rounder - 350Z - fun - 2CV - rose tinted (?) memories - Alfasud ti, Alfa 145 QV (the sold called flying bread van) - reliability - 29 year old Toyota Corolla which I still have
  5. Yup, there’s always one! Tried to leave her there but she managed to keep up 🤣
  6. The second and much missed Caterham.

Volkswagen group UK and their Brands keep putting it out in their published advice and have the Customer Services / contractors doing Customer Services giving that advice. They make no attempt to make anything about servicing clear. That is just how it is with VW UK.

Are you going out of your way to start an argument? I'd expect more from someone with so many posts to a newer member! OK, yes there is no way to spot a bolt that is going to snap other than the fact that there is a defined procedure in the US as per the VWAG document which was the point I was raising. In the UK #ignore Wait for fault tell customer they have a big bill to pay. In North America, #recall all cars, go through the procedure, change the bolts at least or depending on finding change the fuel rail, injectors bolts and all. Point I made was it is ignored here in the UK and don't get me started on the bull that is the cam belts at 5 years from the VWAG dealers that then can't be inputted into erWin as VWAG don't actually recommend doing this!
  9. Wire it into the fuse box on the drivers door post using a piggy back adapter on fuse 6, rear window wiper that is ignition live. Use a connection kit that reduces the voltage from 12v to 5 volts. Remove the drivers door pillar trim by lifting up but steering the top away from the roof trim to prevent marking it. Trim just clips back in. Then poke the wire under the roof trim and around the mirror mount to the camera. Takes all of 10 minutes.
  10. As a newbie to this, I would say clearer pricing at point of charge would be better. Personally, I will be charging at home on my night rate of 23p/kwh, but out of curiosity I have been checking out the charge points when I have been about. There is no doubt, if the government want to push for poeple to go electric they need to ensure better availability of charge points and incentivise the companies to lower prices. I can't understand why anyone pays for the likes of BP, at a monthly cost then high prices on top. As I read it, Podpoint is free for 15mins pretty much everywhere, so that may be handy FWIW, I signed up for Electroverse and Podpoint, so if I ever need to top up while out I can.
  11. A rubber hose isn't going to be made to be safe to use for 30 years, I don't think any part of a car would be, especially a flexible peice that's been bent to shape.

In this exact fault, there is a known time frame for engine build, so in USA and I think Canada, all possibly affected engines, ie cars, are recalled also any cars stocked as trade in are being checked over, the minimum effort is to replace all 4 bolts and torque them up correctly where there is no sign of bolt failure. So no real need to look out for or identify dodgy bolts - which probably don't exist, just wrongly torqued and then fracturing with time/injector pulsing ones.

Happy new year!! Recent photos catchup We've moved into our new home in Taranaki The Audi is now our daily driver Meri kirihimete By the river Dusty driveways And clean again Flash garage, or car parked in the lounge/office? Using the ur as a daily has been going well. It's driving nicely, and seems to be doing okay on fuel usage too. It's pretty practical especially since adding the roof rack. It has been very hot here over Christmas so the lack of aircon makes it a sometimes sweaty driving experience but it's kinda nice to go back to old-school windows-down driving. I've had no real issues but a few new trim rattles and squeaks have surfaced. I'm getting a slight suspension knock again so need to look at that. Warm starting can sometimes be a little tricky and it often catches then runs really lumpy for a few seconds as though one or two cylinders aren't firing. I'm on the hunt for some smaller wheels as I can't help feeling that on these country driveways and potholed roads that the 18s are shaking my car apart. I'd love a set of nice 16s but so far all I can find that are the correct fitment are coming in at 4-5 grand for a set and I just can's justify that right now with a newly built house to finish off. The cheapest, most sensible option is refurb the 15s and run wrongly-sized tyres so I'll pursue that when local businesses re-open after the break. Possibly related to this, possibly not is that I have developed cracks in my bodywork! This is very worrying and I will get it sorted ASAP. 14. Final night time walk in 2022 (with a very bright torch😁) - best wishes to you all for 2023👍
  15. That's brilliant, thank you. It's where I suspect it would be from what little I'd found online. Time to find a friend with ramps! Should be. I did hit a 1-2 inch deep puddle on the offside about a week ago so perhaps that's the trigger. On three short journeys yesterday and today the warning hasn't come up. I'll still see if I can get a look at it though. Thank you everyone at Briskoda Kind regards, Alec
  16. VCDS/ODIS Service - Measuring DPF Lifespan or Soot values A guide I have put together to help you measure find your exhaust DPF lifespan or read in your Soot values VCDS Measuring DPF Lifespan or Soot values.pdf ODIS Service Measuring DPF Lifespan or Soot values.pdf
  17. It will probably be the frequency filters in the loom, hopefully attached images will show you where to look.
  18. I paid someone to activate it through VCDS but OBD11 is another option.
  19. I'm not 100% sure there is, from doing a quick search I think the facelift VRS models were CR so that would be a much better buy. All the CR engines have a DPF but they work well and rarely give any issues. Usually the bigger cars that couldn't get under the nox limit with just the EGR also have adblue but usually on cars 2015+ that are 2.0 +

No knowledge on driving abroad, sorry.
  21. I replaced my 12v socket with a double USB socket that has a built in switch. Like this one; Thlevel Dual USB Charger Socket, https://amzn.eu/d/7y8d9NW
  22. That's incorrect - there r different versions. High & Low versions. There was a thread about it yonks ago - will find it. U can tell by the inside chrome caps for each bulb, as well as if the inner lights light up or not.
  23. Hello have you checked all the fuses to make sure none have blown.
  24. Happy new year 🙂 Pictures, not the best, noticed my camera was not clean.. Was only able to add one..
  25. Thanks for your help, rear brakes fully assembled. It just took a little more heat than I was comfortable with to release the master cylinder cap next to a wiring loom.

As I was a teenager in the U.S. in the 1960's, groundwork for consumer protection of car owners was laid by a lawyer, Ralph Nader. The Chevrolet Corvair, an American made compact car was the case that really got things going as far as vehicle safety goes. So, I do doubt that only foreign cars are the primary targets for the safety authorities. I also think the ability to sue the manufacture in the U.S. helps consumers. Best regards, Eric

The price quoted for the timing belt is outrageous! - cam belt kit GSF129VG0990 for my MY16 1.4TSI was priced at £98.42 when I had mine changed (at 6 years) in October 2021.
  28. The Recall Information Service is "temporarily unavailable" so plan B - the phone next week! In fairness, my contacts with Skoda Parts Direct, Caffyns (re parts) and Marshalls in Croydon have been pretty good so far in terms of basic things like communication, returning calls as promised, delivery updates etc. I've only made one service related contact so far which was the call about DSG service......we will see.

Yes, there is plenty of information on briskoda! I just made a more careful cleaning of the egr pipe and it had some carbon not only on the usual pipe holes but also inside of the tube. I made a short test drive and no fault came. I'll watch it the long term. Thank you, Pete and wish you a happy new year!!!
  30. All that oil and they weren't able to determine where it was coming from? Have they put you in a replacement vehicle? Will they be offering to cover the cost of steam cleaning your driveway?
  31. 1 point
Well that's not surprising is it as they'll just be reiterating the Skoda UK line re time interval that differs from the rest of the world...
  32. Yes, DSG remap is not needed for low torque engine remap. But it could help with the smoothness DutchVRS is mentioning.
  33. Thank you toot. As I only have limited and mainly recent history I'll look into that. I bought it from an independent dealer. Skoda would only tell me about any other previous history they had once I had the V5 which I now have. Fortunately I have driven it quite a bit now and there are no obvious issues with the gearbox or anything else.

As above, the stock footwell lights are white only. You can add RGB versions, when I did it, I used 8W0 947 415 A/B/C/D. These are from an Audi and work perfectly once setup and wired correctly. Few helpful posts - https://www.facebook.com/mqbcoding/photos/a.830666343659925/1932763500116865/?type=3 - https://www.drive2.ru/l/517862556052751411/ - https://www.drive2.ru/l/525539895993698796/ There are also kits from Aliexpress although the colour balance seems to be off when compared to OEM kits: - https://www.drive2.com/l/599712675525567704/

You can test the solenoid part of the valve using the 'output tests' option while connected to engine ECU. Not sure on best strategy for problem solving beyond that, as I've not had personal experience of it. Lots of threads on here with that fault code over the years though, I believe.

There's supposed to be a tiny air filter on the end, and that's the only place it goes. Item 30 here https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2001-225/1/133-133035/

It's the Australian outback. They don't get rain there.
  38. Better messaging the YouTube channel and asking.
  39. Darned stupid, it is actually flashing the rear number plate light as well 🥴
  40. Yes they're OEM. Insert the part number that is supplied in my post (beginning with '6Y...') and search for it on auction sites etc that are local to you, as they are a rare part.

I normally go by the richest figure they give. Antifreeze is cheaper than an engine.
  42. 1 point
OTOH, the weaker you make it, the more likely it is to freeze, and if you're lucky you push out one or more core plugs: If you're not lucky you crack the block and.or head.
  43. Stop messing and wait untill you start driving, normally the park assist works when the engine is running and revearse is selected you get a beep on selection then as you get near to the obstruction the beeps get quicker untill they are a constant noise, the most common fault is the sensor in the bumper these fail quite often and are expensive to replace unless you can get a deal on old stock, bumper needs to be removed to fit new ones
  44. You are misunderstanding, it is called hill hold, what it does is delay releasing the brakes for a couple of seconds whilst you foot moves from brake to accelerator. So brake lights would be on whilst foot is on brake. The Kamiq (and smaller Skoda cars) has a manual handbrake (normal pull up lever), not an electric brake (which is only on bigger models with 5 x 112 PCD wheels hubs). If want brake lights off, got to put it in neutral and take foot off the brake pedal.
  45. Latest Updated Speedcams - December, 2022. It's been a long while but at last here's the latest update of my customised version of EUR Speedcams ( December, 2022). They consist of the full EUROPE speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams, Variable Speedcams and Redlight Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons, shown below, to match each of the speedcam categories. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to open the newly extracted folder and place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment map menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Hope you all enjoy them! EUR Speedcams December, 2022.zip *** A brief update*** For all those who have asked - I am still continuing to update these files but since the Covid situation I have found it difficult to get hold of a good FREE reliable updated database. I continually regularly check the forums and when I come across a suitable database I use some software to check the cameras in my area before I decide whether to convert and compile them as it does take a bit of time and effort to accomplish this. For instance, some average speedcams were installed about 3 years ago in my area but no database has yet reflected this change. It's therefore been pointless doing any updates. Thankfully, this new updated database has finally recognised them so perhaps things are starting to get back to normal. Rest assured though these files will be updated as and when I come across any further suitable databases.
  46. You can also disable Kessy temporarily, or (i think i saw this option) completely. No need for any pouch or removing kessy from the car.
