Blimey the sun came out today. So managed a quick wash of the car and also fitted new rear mud flaps.

If I get around 55mpg from the 2.0tdi VRs I will be happy I also tow a small caravan and having the diesel torque helps Due to collect the car sometime this week came off the boat at Grimsby so I have a nice 300mile drive home to south west Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 with the car
  3. It's been a month, what's happened? This one has behaved fine. I have absolutely nothing to report, except that I changed the EVAP purge valve, and the car has provided stellar service as a mile munching dog carrying thing. That is all.
  4. Almost everything out. Only thing that needs to come out is the wiring for the dome light. Pile of parts grows bigger again
  5. Some VRS got bricks fitted so some Monte's could have Gigaros.
  6. Those are not Monte Carlo Trinity alloys, looks like Black Gigaro, but some Monte Carlo did get them fitted. (I sold a few sets of Black Gigaro in Scotland, or Dark Chrome that i painted black and left the silver / alloy rim showing / unpainted.) When you need new tyres you could go to 215/40 R 17 or 205/45 R 17 on those rims. You could change the rims for 16" or 15" and inform your insurance and quite probably pay nothing extra. As many do for winter wheels/ tyres, and the insurance in the UK do not have dates that cover winter, and you are in Scotland. Maybe you have an insurance broker that asks for £25 when you change things on a schedule / policy, but that is the greedy ones, or the muppets on the phone. You are not doing anything different fitting 16" rims to a Mont Carlo because that is factory standard size from Skoda in other world regions. That includes in Europe / EU. and the sizes for fitting Snow Chains as Skoda show in their bumf applies in the UK as much as in the rest of Europe / EU. PS I see new discs are fitted. ? Is there a spare 15" wheel / tyre in the boot and the tools, locking wheel nut socket, tweazers for nut covers etc.

Fair point, but it did achieve 61mpg over 1000 miles from the Tuscany coast, over the Simplon Pass and finishing up in village high in the Jura mountains, a net climb off about 3000 feet.

Totally agree. Driving style, journey length, road type, traffic conditions all have a bearing on real world figures. Much to my surprise, my 1.5tsi averages are better than the WLTP brochure figures. Overall average since purchase (22,300 miles) : 54.9mpg Best 'three tank' average : 59.98 mpg That three tank average was on a European road trip so most mileage was motorway, autoroute, autostrada at legal limits where traffic and weather conditions permitted (anything from about 60 - 80 mph (100 - 130 kph))
  9. I don't believe it. It must be storing something up to spring a nasty surprise on you

Thank you @toot and @Mickvrs220 very helpful. best bets get it done properly ay for sure 🙌
  11. Hi everyone, First of all a special thanks to @silver1011, @skomaz and @2010OctaviaScout, You guys saved me alot of money as it appeared to be the hose that caused the issue. The locking mechanism / connection mechanism for the hose was a strange one. I had to reattach it like 3-4 times for it to attach properly, and so I can actually understand why my mechanic though it was attached but then popped off again. So after a few attempts I was able to attach it properly and the car ran perfectly fine again. No glow plug light. Engine light was still there so I took it back to my mechanic and he cleared fault codes. Haven't had a single light afterwards! So again thank you so much all of you - really saved my weekend. All the best!
  12. Woohoo, after trying for the umpteenth time I got a successful connection. Well happy.

I have always used the Yuasa 5000 series 5 year warranty the last one we bought was the YBX5096 80ah and the car was part exchanged 4 years ago but the person who bought the car from dealers still has the battery fittedsio it's a least 7 years old, they run about £115 now but try the sites you might get a deal expensive battery but worth it as it lasts
  14. I spy some toledo tyres I'd be getting them off ASAP. Video very much related. And I was going 10 under the limit, 40 in a 50 As toot says those are gigaros, fabia vrs wheels. Didn't know some montes had them fitted. Presumed all uk ones got Trinity's like these.
  15. I find it always takes a journey or two, as opposed to just letting it sit idling, before the coolant level settles down after any such change. Make sure it's got enough antifreeze in, fair chance a freeze-up was what killed the old waterpump I should think. Probably why the previous owner got rid?
  16. Recently bought the ODBeleven with a few credits. Have just set the fake sound to 30% and the Lane assist to memory. These are 2 of the things that have bugged me since buying the car. A few days away in North Yorkshire coming up so will see if I like normal mode (default) for a change. Was easy to use for what I wanted.Register an account, set a pin no.,add credits via connected android phone app etc. I did a full backup which seemed to absolutely hammer the car battery even with a charger connected. Also did a scan and cleared lots of errors, didn't investigate as i will check again and see if any reappear. Not sure what else or how often I will use this as I know nothing about coding so only used the built in apps.
  17. As mentioned above, there are plenty of people not in their right minds, who will FLOOD Police inboxes with videos of even the most minor imagined slight or transgression. Case in point, the incident where the Police were summoned to give a stern dressing-down to a three-year-old that had accidentally scratched someone's car. Besides, 85mph isn't very fast. Most cops won't even stop you until you breach 90, and even then I see plenty others driving well over a ton on a daily basis. Cutting up, cutting in, overtaking cyclists too close, going the wrong way down a one-way street, parking in disabled bays or parent bays, the list of possibilities is so endless, it'd be a full-time job for even the most dedicated busybody....
  18. Having covered 22k and owned it for 12 months I thought it time to write up my experiences on this car, some of the logic behind my choices and then some of the good, bad & ugly! The car:- ~~Skoda Superb Laurin & Klement 2.0 TSI 280ps 4x4 DSG estate~~ Extras/Options:- Panoramic sunroof Cooled front seats Space saver spare wheel Heated steering wheel Retractable parcel shelf Rear view camera What I've done to it:- K&N air filter - something I always do to my VAG vehicles! Enabled High Beam Assist - amazing that this £300 extra can be enabled with coding, it's pretty awesome too Fogs on with High Beam - more light on country lanes please Enable KESSY to lock the vehicle with the engine running - ace for frosty mornings (although not strictly essential with a heated front screen) Enabled teardrop wipe front + rear - can't think why this isn't standard Enabled undertaking with Adaptive Cruise Control - this one bugged me like mad, 2 motorways merging or a filter lane off at a junction were always a PITA Disabled Start/Stop - thank goodness. Turned off boot closing 'beeps' - not sure if this is sensible or not, can't make my mind up! Enabled refuel qty in Maxidot - just because I could! Enabled fan (blower) speed in AUTO mode - again just because I could! (As you can see, mostly coding/VCDS tweaks) So, firstly let's deal with some of the justifications of the Options! Pano sunroof:- having had this as standard on my Hyundai i40 Tourer I couldn't (and still can't) see myself owning another car without one - I agree, this will be a totally personal thing but I absolutely love the airiness & light that it brings to the vehicle and is worth the £1k to me (obviously not to all!) Cooled Seats:- SWMBO is always freezing & I'm always boiling! If she can dictate heated seats & steering wheel, then I'll have cooled ones thanks!!! Spare Wheel:- a bag of jungle juice & a compressor on the side of the M4 yesterday wouldn't have sorted my shredded tyre............. Best £100 you can spend IMHO Heated Steering Wheel:- SWMBO's orders. Retractable Parcel Shelf:- think I got diddled here - fairly sure this is standard on L&K, but it appeared as a £100 extra on the invoice from the dealer.............. perhaps someone will be able to clarify! Rear View Camera:- partly SWMBO and partly because it was standard on my old i40 and found it jolly useful! Secondly, let's deal with the actual vehicle justification! L&K (nearly) had all the things on my must have and nice to have list... As the title suggests, I'll be having this car for a long time and will be doing 22k+ per year in it so it had to be something decent. My other car is a Leon Cupra 290 so the 280 Superb seemed a logical choice! It was a tried & tested engine as far as I was concerned and the DSG box is just awesome every time I've ever driven a car with it. The 4x4 was partly because it 'was there' but also because I decided my next car was going to be 4x4 as the Leon Cupra just has far too much power to be delivered efficiently to 2 wheels - burning through tyres isn't my idea of fun! The KESSY was also pretty crucial as it was on my i40 & I found it incredibly useful. Thirdly. the Good, the Bad & the Ugly! The good:- find me a 4x4 300bhp estate car with this amount of room for passengers & luggage alike, with this build quality, with this spec for this money and I'll say you've got a Superb. No other car can come match it as far as I'm concerned. The bad:- An annoying subtle clonking has crept up on me - seems suspension related... intermittent and elusive so far!! The ugly:- It's 'only' a Skoda... So, what now. Well it appears I have an itch I need to scratch! @superbtte's absolutely stunning work to his (now sold) Superb is really, really winking at me! To justify another £x,000's on this car will be difficult, but it still winks! I'd probably do something like:- new exhaust, lower it by 30mm, new turbo, remap & leave everything else stock!
  19. Have you checked the number plate light ?
  20. Have edited to add DSG 😉 It is! A stunner for a discerning buyer! It's too good to throw at a webuyanycrap dot whotsit in my opinion.... (I may be wrong!)
  21. cheers mate, managed to order a set

On my 2.0TDi (SE Technology), when I was regularly driving an hour each way on dual carriageways to commute (plus other work mileage) my average consumption was around 70mpg. I've now got a shorter commute and have noticed it's dropped down a little, seems to hover between 60-65mpg. I tend to drive to the limits, and don't over accelerate etc so keeps things a bit more economical.
  23. 1 point
If you get 54.9 as an average over ownership then there must be times that it is shipping fuel at 70.6 mpg because there are plenty times it will not b getting 30 mpg.
  24. @z1ts Lovely. Just a heads up. Pictures show it is a DSG. You do not say that in ad or if a TSI or TDI. Just mentioning because the same happened over the gearbox in an ad for a Yeti.
  25. Totally agree, you need to do your research and decide to what level and depth you will want to go to interfere with things. We are know the joys or otherwise of computer programs, not even the great VAG always get the stuff right, first few attempts, I think Ross Tech have updates, any machine you'd want to keep up to date in the hope the latest updates sort things previously not sorted. The Yanks have decades of experience but I expect the Chinese were 'given' the programs from VAG and some possibly improved on them others shoddy and don't care as is the way with the Chinese 'borrowing' and manufacturing. As I put it depends on the level and width of what you want to do. As always buyer beware, if you want security go with what's considered best at the time. ETA: the machines, including VCDS, can be use to see information for diagnostics, without necessarily interfering with anything, bit like look but don't touch, other than perhaps clear DTCs.
  26. Many generic code readers will not show up DTC's that VCDS will show. Yes there are other 'easier to use' ie '1 click function' coding interfaces out there... but be warned these also change things that are totally unnecessary and WILL cause you a world of pain when something totally unconnected now no longer works! It is ALWAYS better to physically change the coding yourself rather than to rely on the 'easiness' of their '1 click' options. There are also more in depth (and harder to use) interfaces... these will allow you to do more, but also have the potential to screw everything right up (as you are uploading whole new files to the controllers.
  27. Depends how much fiddling about with the factory settings on the car you want to do but there are alternatives to VCDS which are much better presented and much easier to use without having to learn the built up legacy system - unless that's your sort of thing, made it more exclusive and rewarding. There's a whole very wide range of scan tools that can cover VW products (and much, much more) with a wide variety of what you get on the machine and want contracted with them, also offering help, updates and even community. For deepest widest range of fiddling with just VWs, if that's your thing, then probably the VCDS is the most cost effective otherwise just look at the scan tools (or code readers if that's all you're after), obviously being a tiny island the costs in the UK are higher than elsewhere but they don't get the very interesting weather we do. I'll get me coat . . .
  28. I'd expect a trickle from that hose, increasing a little when engine revved.
  29. On mine it's just to the left of where the the max-min markers are etched on the tank. Easily visible when looking from the front of the car. 5Q0 141 407 with either a G or M suffix. G = with bag, M = without I believe.

Ah, I was in one or two nav update threads in different tabs in Chrome, looking for info, and have replied in the wrong one! Will post it in the right one later!! thank you for point it out 😅

WLTP is not real world, nor is RDE2. Not driving UK summer or winter of any days on UK roads with UK conditions or speed limits. Maybe with or without Stop start enabled or regens happening etc. So the only thing that matters is location location location and how you use, journey length etc. Ps. Manual or DSG. Tyres at comfort pressures, light loaded car or eco pressures, family car / taxi with actual people and stuff in it.
  32. Thanks,I have vcds so can do a output test and check if the fans are working, otherwise I'm going get car warmed up in next couple of hours and see what is what.
  33. I may be wrong, but I think I remember reading in some threads, that the P/N is written on the lower part of the coolant tank, on its rear side. Thus it's not so obvious to read it. Maybe using a small mirror?
  34. 1 VIN per car, so you can do whatever you want as often as you like and it will only use up 1 VIN.

Until it gets repaired you could get some rust inhibitor on, but the body repairer / painter will be taking that back to bare metal anyway.
  36. 1 point
I would take it to a local body shop to be repaired correctly ,dont think it would cost to much ,better than a home bodge job that dont match 👍
  37. David, hi, welcome. Your link doesn't work for me but If I understand correctly you want to remove the whole mirror unit. I've never done it but yes it'll be door card off and unplug electrics. I've never taken the door card off but I think I've seen it written that it's not difficult (famous last words) and there may be more info on that. Personally I've always found any job involving removing and putting back bits of plastics and perhaps cardboard or more plastic to be much more awkward and time consuming than many blasé reports or instructions make out but anything to do with cars that's not driving I start with the "wrong" attitude as I loathe doing anything with cars other than driving them and that's only to get me from A to B now. If you get the door car off I think (don't know) the mirror should be easy (unless like me you find little plastic wire connectors an absolute fiddle and fart to separate). The vandal should be made to do this job for you properly and I think that would be a good punishment, as well as pay for any new parts of course.

I got the PS5 to replace OEM Pirellis that were cracking on the sidewalls. So far so good. My mileage is so low annually it will last me the time I will own this car. But look at tyre reviews website, it's one of the better ones for wear but assymetric 6 beats it.
  39. 1 point
5.6L/100 is 50mpg (Imperial British measurement) so 5.8L/100 is nearly 49mpg.
  40. 1 point
Well I guess we all drive differently and there are other factors (like I live in a rural area etc) to consider but suffice to say this 280 is the fastest, heaviest car I’ve ever had and those mileages are the best I’ve ever had in nearly 30 years of driving so I’m happy! Just wish the tyres weren’t over £200 a corner now…. 🥲
  41. Right. I’d had enough, so I had to clean it today. Bit better than it was a couple of days ago….
  42. I assumed Business use. Maybe wrongly. That is why many in the UK have big EV's. http://irishtimes.com/motors/2022/08/10/used-evs-will-have-to-become-much-cheaper-and-more-plentiful

Great posts gents I’ll let you know what I ultimately go for.
  44. The UK Government, and even more so the NHS, does not have a great history of designing decent IT systems - so I won't be holding my breath for this to happen!
  45. Not sure how much this helps? LLLParts
  46. Gearbox in bits and new quaife diff fitted. Still waiting on the bits from the powdercoaters and there's a couple more parts to get still. Also weighed the 2 piece discs against the one piece discs. A difference of 2kg on each disc which is really good! All unsprung weight saving which will help alot
  47. First wash for mine the other week after the winter crud had built up
  48. activate additional ambient light colours open the bonnet 09 central electrics - adaptations - interior light hmi config first and second value should be 7fffffff coding and ignition of, ignition on turn multimedia on , find ambient lights and shoul be activated additional 20 colours
  49. Yep, very pleased with it. I think the dogbone mount is 'code F' though, and am waiting on a new one, probably Wednesday arrival/fit. I think then I'll really be able relax, put my feet up and say to the missus; "There you go, all good for another 100k+ miles... ....FFS don't crash it tomorrow!"
