  1. Auto light shave various sensitivity settings. Mine are set to the laest sensitive setting and always come on at the merest hint of darkness. I've never had any issues on any of the cars I've owned dating back to 2007. I think people are much more likely to simply forget to switch the lights on if they operate them manually.
  2. My old M4 at Rother Valley (there was hovercraft racing going on that day!)
  3. Just fitted a flat-bottomed alcantara steering wheel to my L&K wagon. Ordered from local skoda dealer. Total steal at ~£260. Surprised that buttons came included. Disconnected battery. Figured out how to pop out the airbag with screwdriver. Disconnect wiring loom and button loom. Used torx head and took old wheel off. I also ended up removing horn fuse under the bonnet. Night and day difference. Feels amazing and sporty. One of my best mods so far. Dash lit up with many errors after battery reconnected and started. But these all clear after a short drive.
  4. Just reporting back after the Pagid pad and ATE disc change. All went well during the job and I was meticulous in ensuring the hub and discs were spotless. so far, I’ve done about 40 miles, the braking is nice and progressive and there is no judder (at the moment). Early days I know but looking positive at the moment.
  5. Taken on a trip to Wales quite a few years ago and edited with a bit of artistic licence. 30CC9BA9-2A11-4806-B6A4-30C38E4CD890-24001-000003AEED3395CE.mov
  6. So, this arrived today. It could be a while before I take any pics mind. The manual's like War and Peace. Bluetooth and WiFi successfully paired after not RTFM and blundering away on my own. My pic of the day 😂 span widget
  7. I am gonna turn off the radio station logos then, as since the last update, mine is doing this whole rediclous sequence every single journey. Really really poor, I work in IT, I have never seen such dire stability in any area of my job, and I've used some pretty flakey systems and hw in my time! Really gets on my nerves to have all the tech and none of the reliability to go with it.
  8. My concern as well. According to Skoda Workshop manual, current cambelt replacement requires very careful handling of the new belt and a dedicated device for tuning the new installation.
  9. I did wonder about this when they tried to book mine in. Probably more things likely to go wrong from a cam belt change rather than the cam belt, that was fitted at the factory, going wrong itself.
  10. That should not happen, most likely to do with a failed door loom. To stop auto locking in the Maxidot go to. Convenience Central Locking Deselect Auto Locking.

  13. See what the coming MOT says. If it's a fail for front disc condition or thickness, it's definitely time to replace them. Bet it doesn't say anything different to last year's though.
  14. It is not the dreaded DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG as not fitted to 2.0 TDI's or TSI's. So you are talking 6 speed DQ250 DSG or 7 speed DQ381 age dependent. Wet Clutch DSG;s. Someone will know which have DQ500,s.
  15. Evening all, i've been meaning to put a little blog together for a while... just getting round to it now. Picked up my 2016 vRS TDi up back in December after a change of job with an 80mile round trip commute each day left my little mk7 Fiesta ST drinking my salary in fuel. It was a great little car, absolute riot on twisty B-Roads, i'd got it up to stage 2 with Collins Performance, but sadly the long motorway commute just ruined the experience with it. This isn't my first 184 motor having had a mk7 GTD stage 1 with Revo three years ago which sadly lost its life to some idiot oncoming driver up north of Ullapool, Scotland, shame really as that was one great all rounder. I'd always had a soft spot for the mk3 pre-face lift plus the practicality makes a huge difference both on commute, for chucking the mountain bike in the back and getting up to the trails . First thing it definitely needed was the tyres sorting out, it had one PS4S on the front and then three completely different tyres on the other three corners. Previous owner clearly skimping out on traction before chopping it in to dealership... This made it feel disgusting on greasy roundabouts in December. So it was booked in straight away to have three other Michelin Pilotsport 4S's fitted. This is the second car I have had these tyres on and I can't stress enough how good they are! So like most of us who modify our cars the bug didn't take too long before I started making the change personally think makes the car that little bit better than standard. Work done so far: Tuning Box - Currently DTUK tuning box fitted although i'm not entirely satisfied with the delivery on any of the settings. Lowered with H&R 40mm springs 15/20mm H&R Spacers front to back On Collection: Lowered and spaced: Future Plans: Next steps I would like just improve on visual appearance and the handling: Looking at rear diffuser maybe the Reiger one as it is a little more subtle that the Maxton ones I've seen Maxton skirts I think really set the side profile off so these could also be on the card Maxton front splitter also being looked into, bit on the fence on this one still Rear anti-roll bar - although I am unsure what is the go to here, any advice would be great! Braided brake lines and possibly some higher performance discs and pads It may also end up at Revo...
  16. Ah, 95 miles of motorway. That makes sense! I should read more carefully! I think a short charge on a high speed charger will see you through. This is an example plan ignoring traffic and weather: In reality you might want to charge a little earlier on the way home, and it might take more than 4 minutes! But it gives you a rough idea.
  17. 185/65R14 would fit the 5Jx14 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rims. 185/65R14 has almost the same outside diameter as 195/55R15. If you're lucky enough to have the small 239x18mm front brake discs, you could fit 5Jx13 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rims, and fit 185/70R13 tyres. 19. well its finally here! looking a bit sorry for itself paint wise but I think it will clean up well. Minimal rust spotted so far. It runs like crap though so thats job number one. I think it's likely carb related given its not been driven for couple of years so maybe needs a clean and fresh fuel
  20. It doesn't, other than the fact that before moving here two years ago I was doing 16K a year and mpg was a game I played to see what I could do to get good numbers. I wasn't a Hypermiler as such (no switching the engine off to freewheel down hills or pumping my tyres up to 60 psi) but I liked to try and wring every last mile out of my petrol. As I said. Just a game.
  21. Just been looking at when I bought my battery, 3rd aug 2021 I chucked one of these in: E39 Varta Start-Stop Plus 096 AGM Car Battery 12V 70Ah and recoded it. Just gone and sat in car, warmer weather clearly helping. Started @ 12.34v, then as lights went off etc... 12.5v. That a do!
  22. 185/60R15 fitted to a 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 steel rim is a standard winter tyre and rim combination on the Fabia MK3, and allows for the fitment of snow chains. As all-season tyres have the 3PMSF symbol, they are winter rated. So if you use these, you are fitting "winter tyres" in one of the approved Skoda winter tyre sizes, which is shown in the owner's manual. So no matter how cautious you are regarding insurance and modifications, this isn't a modification. If you phone your insurance company, you may speak to someone who doesn't understand tyres and rims. Therefore, you put yourself at risk of being fleeced for "modifying" your car even though you haven't modified your car. Considering that the UK courts are the ultimate judge of what is and isn't a significant modification, ie. something that affects the risk, I would rely on what it says in the owner's manual and in other technical documentation from Skoda, such as the CoC (Certificate of Conformity), rather than an office clerk at the insurance company who may not understand tyres and rims. Additionally, to be of any relevance, a modification needs to be "significant" otherwise insurance claims could be turned down for any minor reason the insurance company pulls out of the hat. There are two types of Alcar 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 steel rims that you might want to consider. The Alcar 7760 and the Alcar 8380. The Alcar 8380 looks a little more attractive without wheel trims. However, it probably best to consider what wheel trims you want to fit before making a final decision. 23. I just took the figures from this article https://motoreu.com/skoda-fabia-1.4-16v-mpg-fuel-consumption-technical-specifications-172602 Mind you, it says it is Euro 4..........
  24. It was 10 yrs old in January going by the mfg code. Car was registered in Mar 2013 and I bought it as an ex demo in Sept 2013. Its always had long periods of discharge of between 3 to 4 months and has always had enough power to start up. Start stop has always been used. These days, because I know I'm on borrowed time with it and hardly using the car, I'll start it up after about 6 weeks and run around for an hour or so. I can't use a charger without taking the battery out. My previous 2005 Octavia 1.6 petrol had exactly the same treatment and the battery was ok at 8.5 yrs old when I sold it.
  25. thanks. i’d be inclined to use a main dealer for cam replacement - mainly because they’re big enough to after if they fvck it up. going to a main dealer means less likelihood of a fvck up but still a complicated job and main dealers run very lean so that they can extract as much profit as possible….. i.e. a risk of an incentive to cut corners.
  26. That's what I thought. Many thanks. Next stop: to see what the insurers have to say. At a guess, 'more money' 🤔
  27. My VRS from 2021 has Potenza S003s on its 19in rims. I am happy with the handling but I do not really push the car hard. On the other hand: a) There is a lot of road noise which may be more a result of the low profile (40). b) I have had 3 tyres replaced in 2 years and 16000km due to damage - 2 from potholes and one from a screw in the tread. That is 2 more than I had in 19 years and 260000kms in my old car which also had Bridgestone Potenzas. But that car was a Honda S2000 with 16 inch 55 profile tyres.
  28. It will not be good for manufacturers hoping people will continue to buy their cars when features can be "turned off" without any consideration of present owners. Lets hope they wise up and find a solution.
  29. Sorry for the late reply! It turned out to be a faulty replay, thankfully nothing major
  30. I’ll be honest with you , I have no idea what it is but I would be very curious to compare my coding with a original FL coding. The guys that did the upgrade on my car said that I should’ve had both unlock and lock animation and they will try to send me the coding. Still waiting. Anyway, this is my BCM
  31. WoF failed on headlight alignment and a cut in my rear seatbelt! Maybe rodent related? Also my drive shaft bushing is worn so I’ll replace that soon. Since sitting outside for a week Rusty isn’t running properly - missing and down on power. Not sure what it is yet, maybe electrical, maybe air or vac leak. I suspected spark plugs so did a quick 10 minute new plug install in @repcoauto car park Smoother running but still not right. Hmm not sure that looks right. New cap and rotor coming from @qualitat_european New seatbelt arrived from Hawkeswood Classic in Auckland.
  32. Until March there were two suppliers. It appears Trafficmaster allowed their licence to lapse while INRIX have continued. This isn't much help to Skoda owners, together with a range of other vehicle manufacturers, because they were all configured to receive traffic data from Trafficmaster and not INRIX. Unless Skoda and the other manufacturers have very recently made a deal with INRIX (or are about to), it appears as though the TMC service has effectively been shut down permanently for us. It's very much up the the manufacturers to figure out a way to resolve this. Anything short of this will be a big kick in the teeth for many thousands of owners.
  33. I'm really sorry - I didn't think to include the additional service information. It looks like it's had the necessary additional work carried out on it (see below). The servicing checklist was useful - cheers. No reference of a cambelt change, but from what I can gather, the MK3 Octavia has a timing chain. I think I'll just take the car as is and do as @Gammyleg suggests and get the next service done at an independent garage. It's probably only got 400ish miles left before it asks for the next service, but at least I'll have more confidence about getting the correct oil. Thanks very much for your advice @toot @Gammyleg. I wasn't really expecting any responses as I thought it might be a dumb question but I feel more confident in buying the car now. Thanks again!
  34. Thank-you, nta16. It I appreciate your suggestion to move my post. Best regards, JeppeArne
  35. Nothing wrong with steel wheels, I prefer them, and more suited to our third-world roads. If it was factory standard then there's nothing wrong with that size tyre, it only seems skinny because the fashion for decades has been to fit overwide, bigger wheels with wider lower profile tyres. The ride comfort of your tyre will be to do with the quality of design, materials and build of the tyre new and the age, wear, storage (parking), use/abuse and maintenance after. Tyres get hard with age and/or lack of use. Living in Northampton and having travelled around Northamptonshire for work and driven for pleasure on most of the fabulous country roads in the county for decades I know the state of them, since we had to subsidise wealthy bankers pensions and the more recent financial series of crises. A recent new Fabia owner with a Skoda Approved purchase had four different tyres on the car, that usually doesn't help with what the tyres do - braking, steering, suspension, road holding, ride comfort and noises. Check your four tyres for matching make and model of tyre, similar tread depths, ages (date of manufacture is on the tyre) assuming they correspond reasonably to when they where actually fitted to the car - for at least the two tyres on the same axle. Tyre pressures, especially if well out of spec and/or variance to each other can make a big difference. In the real rural bits of the county having "skinny" tyres could offer more advantages, even more so than in the towns. If you're replacing one tyre think about the tyre still on the other side of the axle, and perhaps the two on the other axle. Buying tyres in fours or twos is generally best and having the best set on the most suitable axle.

Finally got message from Marshall, that my car has arrived at UK port. I kept receiving fortnightly messages from them since I ordered July 2021, but up till April it was "waiting for a build week to be allocated". Fingers crossed. Long wait, but there were no better deals around since late 2021 anyway. 1.5 SEL petrol manual estate. All standard except rough road pack and all season tyres.
  37. Say's it all doesn't it 'Skoda Approved' 😄 should certainly have you checking what (little) a full Skoda service history might be, many owners think an annual, or less often, change of engine oil and filter is a full service when it's not even a full engine service let alone a full whole car service and a lot can happen to a car in 3-4 years. To me they'd be steel wheels that go over the brakes, correct offset/inset, (stupid) wheel bolt holes in the right place and amount. Alloy wheels are just a fashion thing, same as the oversized larger and wider wheels and skinnier and wider tyres than the car actually needs. You'd have to get a copy of the relevant 2019 brochure to see what wheel options where offered on the car and then find out if your wife's insurer is ambiguous about what they mean by manufacturer options - to specific trim level only(?) (S, SE, SEL). As an example only, with my wife's 'SE' the lowest rent wheel was a 15" alloy (with options up to 17", for those that like that sort of thing) but the 'S' started at 15" steel wheels with option of two 15" alloy wheels. As we're old we don't have to be confined to restrictive insurance policies but I realise some others have to, or chose to. Personally I'd prefer my wife's Fabia had 14" steel wheels.
  38. yes if you have DCC that's impossible to not seeing the suspension difference between sport and confort !
  39. Hi guys, New owner of a Fabia MK3 2016 from South America here, very happy with the car atm, it's a 1.2tsi so it has a few more horses annnnnd it's a dsg. My last 3 cars have dsg so no worries for me (finger crossed). I've been reading this forum for like the last couple of weeks, and it's very interesting!!

I got a call yesterday that my car finally arrived. I can pick it up in the next 1-2 weeks. My last information in March was that the planned arrival is May, and I had no further information until the yesterday call. vRS Hatch petrol ordered in Dec 2021. I update the spreadsheet.
