  1. @numskull, @dunc69, @lmb, @Lutz_91 - u guys would hate my Gandalf big time as I've gone to town with the Superb badging!!! Can't have too many reminders of wat model Skoda I have! Hehehe.....ok maybe I have too many. 😛 Fender... Door sill..... Steering wheel..... Door puddle lights...... Boot lid Lower grille..... Air intake.....
  2. *Update on situation* Called up the service center (Spoke to the manager) this morning and they asked me drive the car to them. Car was taken immediately to the workshop on arrival and was sorted out in 30mins. They did admit the oil was overfilled and now is at the right level. They apologised for not having done the screws up properly for the under tray. The residue of oil on the under tray was left from the engine oil filter service and was not cleaned. No leaks from the differential. They have refunded the whole cost of the service. Car is back at home, all good! Thanks a lot for the advice guys!
  3. Agreed, annoying at worst but NOT dangerous. Back in the day (circa 2004) this place was a sensible, amusing and interesting forum where people on the whole respected others opinions and we had interesting debates even if we disagreed. These days, peppered with one or two argumentative idiots🙄😂😂
  4. Yes, I’m leaving all the links to their original downloads. BTW It’s really frustrating that we lose the ability to edit posts after a while here. 😡
  5. Sorry, but I was not questioning your ability, I was just trying to make sense of what the lane assist is trying to do, and with it switched on, unless indicated, it will try steer drivers back into the lane as it thinks they may have strayed by accident. One such scene that I think you are trying point out is when you are coming off a slip road onto a major road, no need to indicate if the major road is clear, in that case, I totally agree with you. I have not had blue light training but I have been a professional lorry driver and covered many hundreds of thousands of miles during my time. As to saving fuel at idle, when I was not paying for fuel, I also to think it didn't make much difference, however when I started to pay for own fuel, I did notice the difference, I suppose it makes a small difference in may be more rural areas and a far difference in cities like London.
  6. Over there @skodacommunity.de I read several reports about failing batteries. One way to make shure the battery itself is OK is to unplug the charged battery after some driving and check / write down the voltage and check it again next day. In case the voltage still drops off in the same tempo you likely have ruled out the car. Still the car might have issues leading to intermittent electronic "wake ups" hurting the batteries lifetime.
  7. As I was anticipating some time ago, today I joined the v.1941 club (through the front door 🙃 ) - believe it or not - installed by dealership, same one that did the installation for @djmartzian (thanks for the tip!). It was not as long as they anticipated when they were threatening me with 3 to 4 hours installation time, but still - considerably longer than what it should have been. The car returned into the parking lot in about 2 hours after they took it inside for the upgrade. No idea what they did all that time, maybe they were listening to musing, or simply killing time - but the car had the hood and the driver's door opened during those 2 hours - I checked it via the phone App every 10-15 minutes while waiting... Fingers crossed it will run smooth from now on... at least until they release another major-fail OTA ☹️
  8. Complete and utter bull****! Lane enforce will not prevent you from switching on an indicator and moving without observing.
  9. @DSLI asked about the cambelt only. There was no mention of any other item's service interval. @Skyl1n3I called them specifically on the back of your findings, and just wanted confirmation. I expected to be told X years or X miles, was not expecting "there isn't a recommendation"! For the moment at least I'm not going with a five year or 50k change (at £1000 flipping bucks). So thank you guys on here for your input to this, saved me quite a bit of money for now at least. I contacted them via their main number... https://www.skoda.co.uk/discover/contact-us I'm hoping to hear other people have contacted Skoda and find out what they are told? Skoda's website still says 5years/50k, but I assume it will be changed soonish. Thank you all, and @tootin particular , for all the info on here, saved me a lot of money in these expensive days. Top stuff everyone
  10. There is no such thing as "Summer tyres", its marketting Bravo Sugar for "tyres". How many days of snow have you experienced in the last 2 decades in Surrey and Wiltshire? Drivers should be capable of adapting to the weather conditions, unfortunately that has not been the case for the majority since ABS and ESP became mandatory. A driver that knows the limits of his vehicle and drives within them according to the weather and road conditions will always feel secure. I speak as someone who spent most of their life trying to drive right on the limit and beyond both on road and on track, tyres were very important to me, they still are but adapting to the conditions more so. I have had zero benefit from my winter tyres in recent years, now I am set up to change them very quickly I am going to remain all year on the standard tyres which you call summer tyres and only swap them if we get snow and ice and a forecast that it will hang around for a long time.
  11. I thought the title was a statement and not a question, there was nothing else written, I hear a noise when my engine is ticking over and also when a plane flys overhead! Many of the topics on this forum are better than any crossword puzzle.
  12. Funnily enough I've driven for over 40 years and never unintentionally driven over white lines unless I intended to. I also save way more in fuel etc by my manner of driving than stop/start could ever hope to match
  13. Strat/stop is actually more useful in relation to urban NOx and particulate pollution, short-term threats to human health, rather than the CO2/climate related reduction which is a side benefit, and not huge.
  14. Colourful end to the day.........
  15. I'm still a little confused, as I thought the TMC signal was turned off, so how does older maps work or have I go this wrong ??? Is this the correct procedure to get TMC active again, as I dont possess VCSD/OBD11. I have a Octavia 2016, I thinks its a Amundsen (MIB2), SD reader in glovebox I've attached a photo of build details. So am I correct in the following process: 1) Format SD card 2) Unzip "Unmodifed V12 map download DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12.7z" to SD card 3) Unzip "DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update.7z" to SD card and let it overwrite existing files Thanks in advance.
  16. @bluemoon2020 Welcome. If you look at posts today in the Karoq and Octavia Mk3 sections of Briskoda you will see threads with posts about 1.5 TSI ACT's and Skoda / VW clearing up the miss-information that has come from VW UK Group, Skoda, VW, SEAT and Audi on 5 years intervals for replacing cam belts and that is the same as Dealership employees have trotted out for years.
  17. Your technician was partly correct. There is no replacement time or mileage for the timing belt in the workshop manual for countries that are not dust rich. Also the water pump is on the opposite side of the engine to the timing belt and is driven by a different belt altogether so can be replaced without doing the timing belt at the same time. In terms of costs that seems a bit expensive to me.
  18. I do not have the time to dedicate to the forum at the moment, I am hoping that those that have requested firmware files are being sent the 1941 update?
  19. Welcome to my list of 'special people' I no longer read.
  20. If we wait long enough, perhaps other manufacturers will get their EV technology closer to Tesla - then there is also HC on the horizon, as JCB have been developing.
  21. Yes, so can many of us. As I mentioned earlier, while my car was assessed by the accident assessors, I had a Qashqai for 2 months and I ended up turning the lane assist off on that because it was to aggressive and made it almost impossible to decide if it was the lane assist or bad road surfaces at times. The system employed on my Superb does not fall into that category, it just works and works in what I call a sensible manner.
  22. We're taught not to over indicate. There is no point in indicating if no one will benefit from an indication. That's not of course to say that every police etc driver gets it correct, just like many drivers don't.
  23. Correct. Does not require any coding. Leave the TMC adaptation set as is (15). Just unzip the modified files over the V12 maps. Only works with maps up to and including V12 as previously discussed. Theres a link to the V12 maps in my quoted post. 1023 will also still work for the coding, and for some users it may be a better choice. 1023 includes more enabled TMC providers for the rest of Europe.
  24. I think that this has been mentioned in another section of this forum, good to know that VW Group main dealers are being honest about this. On the other hand, seeing as you are still a bit concerned, I used to have a 1991 Vauxhall Cav GSI 2000 16V 4X4, that engine had a belt driven camshaft, the original recommendation was "90K miles" for replacing the belt, a few years later I just stumbled across an article in a car mag that said that GM had had a rethink and knocked the "change cam belt" down to something like 35K miles or X years - I reacted immediately!!
  25. What they quoted. Thats what I'd pay if I were to book it in.
  26. Yes, a bad battery will do this, how old is the battery?
  27. No matter what replacement battery you end up deciding on, and especially if you change from efb to agm make sure you get it coded correctly.
  28. We will hear eventually and head for thinking, feet for dancing. It is not really all about a snapping cam belt. We will find out at 8 years plus how the tensioner and bearings are doing. They last a life time. On a 1.5 TSI ACT we are yet to know how short that life might be. VW are always backwards at coming forward. Ps. Some might need a replacement GPF before and issues with the timing. Then there are cars at 5 years old now that could do with the spark plugs changed and certainly the Air filter at least looked at.
  29. Unfortunately that's going to work in my case. The Travel Assist option was installed way after the vehicle fabrication by myself, so I am not getting formal communication from Skoda about the Service Campaign. If I want it to work as expected I guess I have only two options, either I get the new setting for A5 and I replicate it on my car or I ask my dealer to do it for a price.
  30. Good reply jr ,totally agree with what you say know your limits and adapt to the conditions make alot of sense👍
  31. If the blower motor fuse is blowing then I suspect the cabin filter may be clogged, you should replace it if it's not been changed recently.
  32. I assume you mean the plug electrode is oil fouled? The EA888 is terrible for burning oil, for some odd reason the 1.8 is much worse than the 2.0, there is a redesigned piston which usually cures this but it is a lot of work.
  33. Yeah I can see a certain appeal in a Q car, if I could afford one when they being produced, have loved to have had a VW Phaeton as looked a lot like a plain old boring Passat to most people, while it was almost a Bentley under the skin.
  34. Before After Difference is subtle, unfortunately I haven't been able to get any great photos before and after. I'm happy with the ride comfort and it was definitely worth the effort however. Would I get the garage to do it if I had to do it again? Yes, but budget a good £500-600 for parts that would need replacing and labour needed.
  35. I have the canton system but I drove a lot of 04 loaners with standard setup. I don't think a subwoofer will make a lot of sense since the sound is not really weak BUT there's some sort of limiter kicking in very soon preventing high-ish sound levels and cutting off low frequencies. So the sound isn't linear between low/mid volume (=sounds OK) and higher sound volumes (sound becomes flattened/thin). I think a combination of active sub plus amplifier would be the better solution. I read mostly positive feedback about the "ETON" products @skodacommunity.de wich are "kind of" plug & play soulutions.
  36. My 1896 worked fine for a pretty long time except for the sound setting bug. Then I experienced the same story: Some OTA update lead to sporadically reboots at first and more often occurence later on. I was thinking I had found a solution since it worked fine for weeks after I did a factory reset and did not configured any user. Unfortunately the reboots came back, right now ~1 reboot in 2 days. I find it funny that skoda can't revert this issue by another OTA or regained their balls to run the "big updates" via OTA. They don't have to do this for all units at once but I think the positive outcomes should be the greater benefit compared to a few bricked MiBs that are probably to expect.
  37. A lot of how cars handle is in the tyres you choose. Put a set of summer tyres on and it will grip poorly and be skittish in wet in colder months, and be almost undriveable during rare snowy days. Instead get a set of premium all season tyres and it will feel secure even on frosty mornings. If some dealer says they will fit new tyres, then don't let them choose, they will probably fit wear quick budget tyres because they will have your money by time you realise they are useless on a cold wet day and they wear quickly.
  38. The L&K badges on mine have gone too. They look like crappy cake decorations (as someone else said either here or on Facebook recently). The Skoda, Superb and 4x4 badges will go next. Prefer the cleaner look. Also, as I am running a remap, the more Q-car I can get, the better.
  39. On a cable note, the cable with nothing attached won't drain. The USB-C is smart from what I understand, if it detects power demand it will provide, if not then it won't. If you choose to get it done please let me know how much it ends up costing, i'd love wireless carplay.
  40. New EV on order. Simply it is the nearest future. It is good driving an ICE vehicle, easy, and maybe even cheaper than an EV if you do public charging. But hey ho on you go with how things are. If you want to just run an ICE vehicle you can. If you want to buy one new up untill you can not anymore then what's the beef, just do it.
  41. Why would you want to debadge it? I know mine has been done by the previous owner, but I am considering restoring the L&K on the wings at least, it might affect it's resale value.
  42. The Telegraph and Daily Mail are really on an Anti-EV and pro ICE vehicle campaign. I wonder just how much their owners have financial investments in Oil & Gas production & not in EV,s or EV Subscription. PS I have had an EV recovered. Not an accident damaged one thankfully.... What a farce. The RAC called out the recovery firm and then i assisted with the recovery. Blocking the road with my van with hazards on, moving cones about and waving through drivers when it was safe and no cable across the toad. The 'very professional' recovery operative (??) had not a clue what he was there to recover and had nothing more than sliders with him. As for jacking points / and safe places to lift, clueless, and there was no towing hook with the car from new. *People including first delivery transporters, first responders from the 4th emergency services / recovery operatives are pretty clueless as to a FWD, a RWD or an AWD EV or Hybrid, so there is an issue right off.* Here the Front wheels were locked in P, that was the fault and the rear wheels had e-brake on so locked. As i pointed out to the RAC operative who was first called before breakfast time and when arrived plugged it in, did a reset and before he left me with the car before lunch time having tried pushing it and getting the idea he could no put the front on a dolly, and then me asking the recovery company mid afternoon when they might come and did they know it was an EV and the wheels were locked. Tea-time so late afternoon / early evening and finally at 7.30-8.00 pm i got home and the car went off in the wrong direction 25 miles to then travel the next day to the dealership where it sat in the car park for 3 weeks because the RAC never booked it in. *This is a car owned by Motability and the RAC assistance is done by a priority team.* !!! ? (It is at the dealership now for it,s 3rd recall and MOT, this one is a Safety Critical Recall as were the last 2, not that Vauxhall or the DVLA bother telling you for a month or 3 or even a year and when you ask what the possible issue is Dealership staff have no clue.) I am driving a BMW Series 1 this weekend since the car might be gone for days or even weeks this time. What a farce and training has obviously somehow passed the company / management by.
  43. @Logan2194 Welcome. Was this the VAQ diff you had serviced? That was due at a 2 year interval on your car was it not, so in 2022. The engine oil should be checked at normal operating temperature if you read the owners manual. After stopped a few minutes. Obviously you want to know where it is when stone cold as well.
  44. Attempted to modify the configuration so it will work with the standard FEE BASED TRAFFIC INFO adaptation value of 15... TMC providers update: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update_V2.7z This means you should be able to avoid step 4 which requires a coding tool to modify the adaptation to 1023. 🙂 If anyone is able to test it would be appreciated - Sorry, I don't have access to any MIB2STD equiped vehicles.
  45. Washed my car, just in time before it started to rain, and removed SUPERB and 4x4 badges - L&K badges next: Also, earlier in the week I fitted full size 235/45 7.5jx18" - had to adjust some plastics and the foam spare wheel tool kit holder. Fits like a glove - a bit high though. Need to sort it out next.
  46. But for a 25 year old he shows remarkable self awareness dont you think!
  47. provided the battery tests ok on a test, I'd suggest looking for parasitic drain while the car is fully shut down - correct procedure can be found by searching on the forum. Even with variable charging from the alternator, battery standing voltage should not be allowed to drop below 12 volts, as this can cause long-term damage.
  48. It couldn't possibly be that, never in a million years woul- YEP! Bloody splines weren't seated, reinstalled and it goes BRRRRR!
  49. Do people in those area have electricity at home?
