  1. Doesn't scrub up to bad, put a battery on and topped up water, turned the key and away she went.
  2. Sitting on its wheels for the first time in a long long time. Started it to feel how my """"custom"""" mounts felt. Pretty good actually.
  3. Alternators in recent cars with start/stop will not put out a constant 14.5V, so are no longer easy to test. An independent test of the battery at a non-Halfords establishment is a good idea.
  4. With my cynical head on I would say, if the Halfords battery was under warranty it was unlikely to fail the test. I'm sure the main stream tyre fitting companies will test your battery for free, and the output from your alternator.
  5. Gotta laugh at those that are interested in the Reduced Tariff cost and then pay the crazy prices for Coffee & Cookies etc. Do that with a few in the car if you do not usually frequent such places and you will see just how much travelling by EV can be. There were other Ultra Rapids available to him very near, and he was on the A9 and again did not bother going into Aviemore for the Tesla Surpecharger with a non Tesla. (Pilot scheme.)
  6. Let's wait for the codes, there's enough rampant guessing and speculation cluttering other threads without subjecting this one to a similar 'dirty' protest!
  7. New Model year coming. MY25. They need to get low emission cars First Registered to ensure Fleet Average in the UK Fleet for manufacturers is met so that they can get on flogging and First Registering the higher emission vehicle and other such stuff. Lots of reasons that 'good prices' or Much Cheapness' comes about with Sales, Leases or just cars going out to lots of places at various times of the year. If they have them built or being built then they do need a customer even if the customer is the Manufacturer / Importer first registering them and getting them leased.
  8. Never a good idea to leave your dashcam connected, it will drain the battery.
  9. You can't end things now. I've just ordered another half ton of popcorn.
  10. Colourful sky this evening 👍
  11. A proper old school battery tester, it can't be beaten if you know how to use it correctly I still use mine but the scale range was designed when vehicles had far smaller batteries, if you look at the staircase type scale between the yellow Weak and the green OK you will see that each increment relates to a different battery AH capacity range, the needle is nearly as thick as the increments. Inspired by mine I made a similar drop tester for intruder alarm and access control system batteries using car cigarette lighter and an LED array, its time the Chinese did something similar to the above tester.
  12. I can't speak from experience but the link below shows quite a few options: https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-body-cam.html
  13. Follow my link. The part is cheap, but the postage bumps it up a bit. The old one just pulls off and the new one pushes on. No glue, nothing. Took me 10 minutes tops.
  14. A small but related aside I was reading the other day. More than 150 models of new cars are too big for parking spaces. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/aug/26/more-than-150-car-models-too-big-for-regular-uk-parking-spaces
  15. A Model S is not, or any other if the driver can keep near a verge, but you do not know if the car is deciding where to place it on the road.
  16. @Graham Butcherhave you been up north much for road trips? He might have a point if he had an EV with pathetic range rather than a pathetic ability to find stuff out. I have been up and around the North Coast 500 in EV,s just a few times and with 100 miles less range than he has. More of an issue was with cars that needed Super Unleaded and having to carry some more even when getting tanks brimmed in Inverness. Many times doing the route, before it every had a name. Warnings regularly now on the North Coast 500. The fun days are long past. Or more important the night drives done quickly. http://thescottishsun.co.uk/motors/11143590/police-scotland-nc500-speeding-car-drivers Police Scotland have been talking about cuts and during the night having only 2 specialist police vehicles night time to cover the whole of Scotland. They are having a giraffe.
  17. Well, he might well have a point if he had to go to the west of Scotland, there is not that much support for EVs. Take a peek at the attached, which shows some of the charge points in The Hague.
  18. I don't have a clue how the recovery Centres & Body Repair centres will get on with it. I expect that they will have to follow the guidelines because can you imagine the carnage and the massive claims being made if a fire was to break out in a crowded yard. My car was taken to Balgores in Witham and like I said there must have been around 100 vehicles stored there and mine was in the middle of the front row and was one of just a handful that was drivable. If an incident did happen, they would never be able to extract many vehicles before they were all engulfed. As to the RAC, well they are at best laughable in my view, on 2 occasions they had to recovery me and I wait over 7 hours once and 4 hours on the other.

Is it a Amundsen or Columbus you are trying to update ? If it is an Amundsen then you have to use a Skoda SD Card otherwise it won’t work
  20. 1.2tsi CBZA/CBZC engines. I know them well 2 possibilities in order of likelyhood. Reading OBD codes will tell you which it is. (A cheap OBD reader can be had for under £25) Ignition fault, usually number 3 lead has gone open circuit or/and ignition coil pack failed. Check lead first. Plugs may be worn which can trigger this chain of events. or The turbo waste gate (electrical) actuator has failed, either the actuator has itself failed (depending on turbo fitted, this may be replaceable for around £250) or the waste gate may have jammed. May be freeable but could need a new turbo/actuator at around £1300+ If the car is juddering when trying to accelerate its the ignition fault as it will be running on 2 cylinders. Turbo problem is simply limp mode, difficult to get above 30mph, but otherwise smooth running
  21. Thanks Toot. I was referred to Charles Butler and yes, very busy. Can't get to it until at least October! It is an Octavia with a 7 speed DSG.
  22. Went onto the SkodaConnect Webpage (not App). Selected ‘Services’ and it only included online digital services. But among the features listed under the Skoda Connect subscription (£36/yr) was included ‘Digital Certificate’. I added Skoda Connect to the online shopping basket to see more. The options surprisingly showed ‘I month complimentary’ - free of charge. I added this. Received an email to confirm activation - went onto Skoda Connect and under ‘Digital Certificate’ it told me I have not yet added a digital certificate. I pressed the ‘miles to refill’ symbol and….there was the option to generate a Digital Certificate. This includes every service event from first registration. This I did and I have added a picture below. This ‘service’ expires in 31 days. So I have been able to ‘Try before I buy, which to be honest I will probably do now.’
  23. They are taking the car for 3 days and completely sanding down the whole arch and not just a localised area, then using some sort of epoxy, primer and paint, I think its not too bad.
  24. erWin can not be used without (someone in your case the garage) - paying a subscription.
  25. Dont sound too cheap to me sounds about rightish 👍
  26. Got to the new Tottenham V4 supercharger site earlier. After having had hands on test, I don’t feel the V4 cable is long enough for all cars. It doesn’t feel like it’s long enough for charge port on the right. There is a new screen for public charging though.
  27. I put the S8 version of this in my Yeti and it works well https://a.aliexpress.com/_EyVc2l1 If you did go this route then you have to get the VW Canbus adapter too https://a.aliexpress.com/_EGbmR6J That does Android Auto. I added a wireless Android Auto adapter to it from Amazon and now I even have wireless Android Auto too.
  28. For those who still plan to install door warning lights on their Superbs, I would like to provide further clarification. There are two installation options for door warning lights, depending on your vehicle's equipment. If you have the L&K version with a rear door controller module, which is the black module located here: In this scenario, you can install door warning lights as OEM with programming. Here is a detailed guide: https://www.drive2.com/l/555886142042406917/ If the designated area in your car is unoccupied, it indicates the absence of a door controller module. In such a situation, the sole option is to draw power from existing wires. In this case, you should connect the positive wire to the door window motor connector. This connector features a thick red/white wire located in PIN2, as highlighted by @Alan_P and @przemoka. The negative pin should be connected to the brown/yellow wire of the door lock connector. An intriguing aspect is the pin assignment. As initially indicated by @Alan_P and @przemoka, it should be connected to PIN2. However, @JR RS subsequently discovered that it's actually PIN5. Based on my recent experience, I can affirm that the key factor here is to identify the brown/yellow wire. In the case of the left-hand side door, it corresponded to PIN2, whereas on the right side, it was associated with PIN5 in my Superb. So, to avoid confusion, keep this in mind while proceeding with the retrofitting process. Here's an image of the door lock connector - make sure to locate the brown/yellow wire:
  29. ^^^^ Agree with above - even if the drain of the camera is only milliamps while left plugged in, it appears that this constant, unexpected load prevents other vehicle systems from entering 'sleep mode' when shut down, resulting in a significantly greater drain on the battery, than just from the dash cam.
  30. Similar to when getting the poverty spec of the Arkana I got, no sat nav but then I have always viewed car makers own sat nav as always crap from what I have seen so more than happy to use Android Auto as it is so much better in every way. Zoe has Google maps all built in and of course over the air updates to it plus all the data on if a charge point is being used. I almost do not know why manufacturers continue to bother. Oddly the recently acquired Clio ETECH uses Tom Tom for the mapping and I heard uses Google for the local info, never heard that mix before. Had a play the part several times for it to sink in, (3:40 in to vid below) it has Tom Tom mapping but Google "local" as well, fuel prices etc, where did such a deal get done.? Must admit use the typed word rather than speech on the Clio, use verbal on the Zoe into Google Maps though I think it struggles with the West Country accent. I think these systems only work properly with BBC spoken english.
  31. Price of lease on many EVs, including Skoda N-Yak, ID4, Nissan Leaf (silly small sized battery one, I tried to order the proper sized battery one with similar range to the Zoe but long wait), the Toyota lecky B4buyaSubaru, and the out-going Polestar 2 model, new much better model due soon, all well down in monthly lease costs either to compete with TESLA, shift excess stock/ inventory to get some money in the bank now sales are so relatively poor........
  32. Thanks, that answers my question perfectly. Much appreciated!
  33. For what it is worth, at least VW use a comment/recommendation about changing the oil on this model/type of engine, and that is "do not use oil extraction method, drain from sump plug" - so that is what I've always done with my wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI - and I think that you have discovered that this is the only way to change the oil in this model/type of VW Group engine. My Pelo 6000, rests on a shelf in my garage, just another tool bought in error, I have only used it once on a SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16V engine, and ran out of patience, it worked well enough on my petrol mower - but using simpler tools to do that job means less time wasted cleaning everything up afterwards. I think that you need to fabricate a pair of ramps out of wood, or buy a ready made pair of ramps.
  34. Hi all, sorry for the late update, if anyone is wondering what was wrong with the car, it was the wiring in the car door as expected. It didn’t take long for the mechanic to fix it at all but he said that it’ll happen again sometime in the future.
  35. From a hatchback? OP has an estate (combi) 5E9867871 for the retractable ones for estates I believe.

I don't want to be a grump, but does anyone else think 3 random letters is not good way to title a thread, gives no indication what is being discussed (apparently nothing)
  37. How did you charge the battery after it was flat (on Sunday and Friday)? Just a jump start & then driving or did you charge it with a battery charger? If you managed to make it back from Germany after just a jump start your alternator should be working fairly well. What are the symptoms you see when you say the battery is flat? No power at all, too low to start the engine (lights flashing on the dash, "low battery" message etc), cranking but not starting?
  38. How did Halfords check it, just put a multi meter on it? When car is running, check 14.5v to confirm alternator is working.
  39. A few photos from a recent holiday in Cornwall.
  40. Maybe, if the reflector is designed for the different beam pattern, but again, since you're not using ballasts you have more lumens down the road (probably) than you should...
  41. Estates always look ungainly until they're lowered and have 16" wheels fitted.
  42. If the job is done correctly it is not inevitable at all. Free or not, if they have carried out bodywork on your car to Skoda standards then you need to look up the Skoda approved bodyshop guarantee. They have to cover it for X amount of time if they touched it and repaired it. Cost does not matter, if you paid £10 for it or £1000 for it - it’s still covered. this is of course if it was done by a Skoda dealership and not a random car dealer. And if Skoda done the work through a none approved bodyshop, then that’s even worse.
  43. I would be inclined to check the plastic housing that the temp sender is mounted in, when that starts to leak, it can give that type of odd temp issue, until the crack gets larger (in the housing) and becomes a full on leak. you should see some staining by the head if it's starting to fail.
  44. little update here, I replaced the blower motor and the sound is gone 👍
  45. New EV on order. Simply it is the nearest future. It is good driving an ICE vehicle, easy, and maybe even cheaper than an EV if you do public charging. But hey ho on you go with how things are. If you want to just run an ICE vehicle you can. If you want to buy one new up untill you can not anymore then what's the beef, just do it.
  46. Oh no. Looks like they consulted with the BMW's master of fugly front end designer.
  47. The cambelt was completed in one day dropped off at 9 and picked it up at 1600, the all in price including vat was £729 , they had refilled coolant as well, had it done at Caffyns Ashford Kent .
  48. They do but there's no harm in spraying another load in there, I did all of the sills front to back on the yellow one and the wheel arches via the blacking gromets under the rear arch liner. Every bit helps and all that
