  1. Thank you so much for the amazing suggestion! Indeed, it was the best quick fix...it didn't cross my mind but opened up a new way of problem-solving thinking for me, haha 👌

Many thanks everyone! We are nearly the proud owners of the Karoq, pending a valet! Test drove the CRV with my wife and my back had a very visceral reaction against the seats, especially the passenger one that has no lumbar support (which I hadn't spent much time in before). And after having driving the Karoq the day before I suddenly how much the CRV wallows by comparison. Full credit to DM Keith Skoda Leeds. Very lovely to deal with. Got 5 years comprehensive Skoda warranty for £649 (first two, including services, were free if we took out finance, which we can pay off as soon as we like). Didn't bother with the other extras and got a good deal on the part exchange. The salesman did promise to include timing belt on the service plan, but since no one knows when they are supposed to be changed now, I imagine we'll have to fork out for that when the time comes. Bizarrely, the only thing the warranty excludes is wiring diagnostics. Thanks again. It feels like we've made the right decision. The Karoq was my first choice when I started looking in July and after a lot of dithering, a load of test drives and far too much time on the internet, we've come full circle. Happy to be firmly part of the Skoda family/ badge, given we also have a 08 Fabia (we'll go down to one car when the Fabia starts to need costly repairs). Thanks again one and all. r extras.
  3. This is why I stick around this forum despite not having owned a Skoda for nearly 3 years!
  4. I think the minor interim will have included an oil change. Have you checked other things like tyres and brakes?
  5. If you have a BMS "lump" on the battery -VE then coding in a new battery is the correct thing to do, the general rule tends to be "has it got auto Stop/Start" but early on smart charging etc came before auto Stop/Start and all smart charging meant having a module on the battery -VE, so checking for that is the best plan - this module on the battery -VE will have a plug/socket and so a cable coming away from it.

Thinking of it this way. if the valves are closed at bottom dead centre the engine uses it’s up stroke to compress the air, the compressed air wants to expand to will use that same power to assist pushing the piston back down. if the valves close at top dead centre as the piston drops and pulls a vacuum it will want to return to its previous state (same as putting your finger over the end of a syringe) it will pull the piston back up. Not sure the science or numbers on it, but both of these processes use power to vacuum or compress, then the air wanting to return to its normal state would negate the losses. (this is my thinking on the science of things and yes it’s not 100% efficient either)

Not all batteries have serial numbers. If you are doing your adaptations after a battery reset just changing the serial number by 1 number, so 9999999 to 9999998 for example.
  8. That battery report is useless in all fairness. They have put it as a standard battery, not AGM or EFB meaning it will not read or spec the battery correctly - it’s also showing the Ah is 1026 of 760, that’s like saying your pint glass has 1.5 pints of beer in it. Although the starter may have been faulty, I would be getting that battery double checked again
  9. Unfortunately there is no cruise control on this car. The engine is BXE. I've not changed the clutch or cam belt although it has a very strong biting point. I asked my garage when I first bought it about the cam belt as I was concerned and was told it was not needed and the log book suggests it at 150k miles however that's not what Skoda recommend but I trust my garage (I assume they have access to prior history?). Cam belt has not been done in my ownership but I cannot say if it was done prior to October 2016. I'm currently just inside the M25 near Jct 6, 80 metres inside ULEZ. Annoyingly there is no camera on my road joining the A22 but the majority of my journeys are now short and within the zone. I also work from home now whereas before lockdown I was driving mostly on motorways. I've attached service history to this post. I am missing one year annoyingly. I have it, just cannot find it right now. In light of cam belt history, I've reduced my price to £2,400 across all platforms. Will update the main advert however on my phone at the moment so unsure how to do it! Damien

  11. So, got the insurance sorted for the Fabia, so it's back on the road as of Tuesday. In the meantime, it found itself a friend. Well chuffed with this Vectra, not sure if I'll make a project thread for it yet, as I don't plan on modifying it, just keeping it running and tidy. So aye, I find myself with two lovely runners. The Vectra will be doing most of the summer mileage, and the Fabia will remain as the "everything else" car including LEZ, towing, etc.
  12. DVLA Safety Critical RECALLS are not the same as Skoda Recall Actions / Service Campaigns / Workshop Actions. They should have been done if needed so will not show on the vin checker if so. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions There was the Kangarooing & Software / Engine Management updates for some not just manuals, and some needed a DSG software update. But if it drives fine then good. Any record of the Spark Plugs replaced, and look at the Air Filter and see if clean / fresh.
  13. Not quite sure why they did minor/interim service in 2023 when previous service was 2 years (and 13k miles) earlier, as previous one doesn't appear to be extended scope service, so effectively got 2 minor services in row If you know the registration, go on Government MOT checker and check for advisories etc
  14. @UrbanMan10 is it not 3 former registered keepers, new car, 2 MPC,s then another in July. Concern over Cam belt is it was done correctly.. it is a 6 hour plus job with main dealers quoting from over £700 to over £1,100. But there are members just this week that had it done for £550 and £600 which was the fixed price for TSI,s but not 1.5tsi ACT,s. So maybe main dealer did it. Since July VW/ Skoda changed the guideline for cam belt change and not 5 years / 50,000 in the UK. It was only the UK that had that anyway.

The alternator ramps up whenever I take my foot off the accelerator - pressing the brake pedal is not necessary. I have a voltmeter plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and can clearly see the effect. I use engine braking as much as possible, but the little 1.2 gives a lot less braking than the 1.6 in my 20 year old Focus. The Octavia's battery still seems to be fine after 8 years.

    No, it doesn't
  17. Thanks for the pointers . I checked DVLA with plate for recalls but none listed. Yes the car had 2 owners previously. Car will be provided with skoda approved used 1year extended warranty. Regd Service , what I am told by dealer, it was initially on fixed service intervals and changed to reduced interval since it dint clock enough( over serviced he said). Vehicle has always been on an active service plan from the records. Surprisingly current plan even lasts until Jun 2025 as per the details shared to me. I am not sure if i can request a transfer of the service plan since it’s linked to vehicle. Would you know ? For the cambelt yes, I was a bit relieved it got changed quite recently but will confirm if the dealer did that or if previous owner paid for it ( I highly doubt the rationale just like you). Any concerns around it ?

You don't need a serial number on the battery, as @ApertureS said just change the serial number stored in the battery managment module by 1 digit.
  20. Looks like ex demonstrator possibly. Or just low miles to first oil service. No Multi point check then. Then sold a couple of times before now. Best check if it had the Recall Action that was a DVLA proper Recall or if it did not require it, and any Warranty work carried out.
  21. Just check tread depth on the tyres and if they are getting close down to the wear indicators ask for replacements. Same for discs and pads on the brakes. Also check for any uneven wear on the tyres as that may indicate alignment issues. And finally does the condition of the interior and pedal rubbers seem to match the low mileage?
  22. I think this must be a 16-valve AUB code petrol engine, assuming the 100kW in profile is meant to be 100bhp. The 1.4s with MPI on the back of them don't have an EGR valve if I remember right. Did you adapt the engine ECU to the new EGR valve after fitting? May be worth a try if you didn't, but I think excessive EGR flow is a common fault on these and not often really the valve at fault.

Any will work. Don't think it changes anything. Just a serial number change with the same mfr allows the system to treat it as a new battery. Check rating though and technology.

My only VW Group remote cell battery brand is Panasonic as is what was fitted originally, always worked for me, some people like to buy large "cards" of button cell batteries for next to no money!
  27. Sorry i meant software number, does it match up. Regarding the coding this is how odis displays it; Byte00: 0110 0100 ($64) Byte01: 0001 0100 ($14) [LN]_Ignition key removal lock: [VN]_not installed [LN]_Buttons for multi-function display: [VN]_not installed [LN]_Rear Window Wiper: [VN]_installed [LN]_Buttons for driver assistance systems: [VN]_not installed [LN]_Switch_for_cruise_control_integrated_in_turn_signal_switch: [VN]_not installed [LN]_Switch_for_cruise_control: [VN]_installed [LN]_Adaptive_cruise_control: [VN]_installed [LN]_Signal horn activation: [VN]_Always [LN]_Horn_debouncing: [VN]_not active [LN]_speed_limiter_button: [VN]_installed [LN]_diagnosis limitation: [VN]_not active [LN]_Read_p_locked: [VN]_active Byte 0 which is the 64 doesnt actually have any changable values so dont know what its purpose is, but it looks like it may need adjusting as a complete byte - unsure if OBD11 has the ability to do this like ODIS does. (OBD11 may go bit by bit instead of complete byte) Byte 1 is then all the variables. If you are still unable it may come down to using ODIS and running the SVM routine which will full reset and set the module up correctly.
  28. And what was the previous squib part number, why are you changing it
  29. I've done this. I have a spare LIN adaptor as per the picture above I'm happy to sell if you need one. They plug into steering wheel and air bag cable and enable all functions on right side of steering wheel
  30. Thanks to everyone who has given me the opportunity to install the new 1941 software on my car. Everything seems to work as it should :) It's a pleasure to find this site with Google :)

@FabcolIf you look into the Electric Car Section and the busiest thread 'The truth of Electric Cars' there are plenty posts about him and his videos and comments and reading out articles. Maybe posts just yesterday. You lease Motability cars, £71 a week and the Advance Payment on the available MPV EV,s is ridiculously high. Lower Advance Payments available on ICE WAV,s and People Carrier vans than EV WAV or Vans.
  32. Most people I know stop at Tebay for reasons (yes plural) other than "just refuelling". They only stop at Burton in Kendal if they are out of fuel or need a "comfort stop" right now.
  33. No course not £430, full component cover. zero excess, 10k a year car currently on 45k.
  34. @GrahamSkinner Update for anyone who's interested. Might (!) have got somewhere. Yesterday was Skoda dealer diagnostics. Birchwood in Eastbourne. Impressed with the service I got (particularly Harrison in the service dept. and Chris and Michael who carried out the work). They checked the whole car over (I got a funky video with tyre, pads, etc etc checks) but crucially connected it to Skoda HQ mothership. They updated the engine management software (see attached, might be relevant) and so far (driving the car back from the garage and again this morning) I can't get it to misbehave. No oddness at 1700 revs in third. Smooth at urban cruising speeds. Feels good. Might well be fixed, £99 well spent :O) Any relapses and I'll report back.

Because it is FWD hatch back and it might be called a Crossover or even a Small EV but it is no different from a Fabia or Scala or a Octavia really. & Because really not an Option on any Model in the UK other than they were with Octavia. There was an All Season / All Weather option, as in 3 Peak Winter Certificated. (But Skoda UK did not even know what the tyres would be that showed as an option.) *There is a couple of threads on that from people wanting tyres Winter Certificated for going abroad.) The issue is the Lost in Translation. They sell the cars into the UK with All Season tyres. There for 365 days a year and all season but they are 'Summer Tyres', not that good in the wet, the cold, snow or anything much but great for a WLTP / RDE2 result. ECO bias tyres.
  36. Issue turned out to be starter motor
  37. All I can say is that the VW springs fitted to our Golf don’t really affect the handbrake feel but the others fitted to the Fabia do make the handbrake a bit harder to pull on.
  38. Exactly the same as mine although a bit shiner. Had mine 4 yrs . Best car I've ever had. The addition of a pedal box improves it's drive-ability had one on mine from the day i bought it.
  39. For short term silence buy a serpentine belt for a non AC equipped version of your vehicle, its good to keep as a spare.

Hi, In July this year our seven year old Yeti 2.0L diesel SE L sailed through the MOT with a clean bill of health this done at the same time as the service carried out by DM Keith Wakefield who have maintained the Yeti from new as they did with our previous Fabia Monte Carlo; it's done a gentle well looked after 32,000 miles and I drive on the gears not the brakes. With a clear MOT I was more than surprised to find an impending bill for new front discs & pads total of £352 had been recorded on the service sheet? A few days ago I checked Ferodo website for local suppliers and visited A-Z Motor Factors here in Huddersfield; A two minute phone call and a bit of time with dirty hands has saved me £252; A-Z were brilliant and the Borg & Beck discs & pads came to exactly £100 over the counter. They are now fitted and I took my time cleaning and greasing; the original discs were proving a real pain to remove they were rusted absolutely solid; in the end I visited YouTube; I'm an NCB trained mechanical engineer and given how tight these discs were I didn't want to use excessive force. Just give a few heavy sharp clouts on the front face outer rim of the disc with a 4lb club hammer; hitting the disc a number of times in different places shocks the disc free; put the Torx screw back in loosely to save the disc flying off. It works a treat saving no end of hassle and frustration. A new disc in place it's a shame to get it dirty. The original discs in excellent condition. With the original discs on the bench out of curiosity I measured with a micrometer; they are exactly 21mm thick; new discs are 22mm thick and require replacing at 18mm thick. 1mm wear in 32,000 miles if they were to wear equally over the next few years then they would easily last for a further 50,000 miles. The pads yes they were worn but still had many thousands of miles in them. I've found a local independent service garage with an excellent reputation for future work on our beloved Yeti. The £352 I thought reasonable considering a main dealership's overheads what I don't think reasonable is replacing perfectly good used parts with new. I've posted elsewhere but we intend to keep our Yeti so I've also been rustproofing with Bilt Hamber products; all four inner wings and suspension now treated; I dropped the wing liners and have replaced the fixings using heavy duty zinc plated U nuts and also Stainless self tapping Pozi screws with stainless penny washers. Very heavy duty U nuts. U nuts in place. I don't need to rustproof these they being stainless and I've got a good stock of these U nuts; Pozi self tappers and washers. These Pozi self tapping flange screws have a smaller flange the the T25 they replaced so penny washers made an even better job. Worth posting again if I've already posted the pictures of the wing liner fixings. Next job will be injecting the cavities with Bilt S50 rust proofing. Just passing a bit of time before teatime; it's been another very busy day. Kind regards, Colin.

  45. It’s a manual method to activate the AC run in procedure. Basically it learns the end stops of the bypass solenoid and monitors the pressure of the AC system so it knows exactly what to set the solenoid to so it can achieve exact pressures. There is also the flap relearn procedure which is; ignition on, engine off hold ac and recirculate button till the panel starts flashing all the flaps will move and learn positions when it stops flashing cycle ignition
  46. I had the annoying start up rattle for a second or so which would immediately go once oil pressure built. The lack of rattle or guide noise during revving or under load led me to think chain must be ok 👍. I decided to swap out chain tensioner, other forum members have taken precautions before unbolting the tensioner, by removing timing case cover and wedging guide and tensioner in place so chain remains taut on the top camshaft sprocket. I decided not to having seen videos of how chain sits in situ and guides are bolted down. The tensioner is located behind the engine block on the left hand side under the oil temp sensor. I had ordered a tensioner online but alas it was the wrong type, and sent it back. I ended up ordering one from Skoda, due to convenience, at the cost £60, the Skoda dealers literally found the corner from me. Mine wasn’t the latest type but the washer type, with stub at end, it’s supposed to be an upgrade over the originally fitted part. I primed new tensioner in oil and fitted it, I disconnected coil pack feed and cranked engine a few times and then reconnected it and after a fortnight sitting idle I started the car. It fired up with no rattle (for those whose are gonna say that I cranked it and oil pressure must have built, answer is I tried that when I swapped out oil filter and cranked it with ignition disconnected to get oil into filter and when I started the car the rattle was loud as ever), the car idled quietly. Replacing just the tensioner can save a lot of ball ache, it save me swapping out chains sprockets and guides !!! I’ve posted pic of the original tensioner and the wrong one sent out to me. You can see size difference. once complete
  47. Quick little update New rims! TSW Sebring 19x8.5j with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 6 225/35/19 Wanted something as unique as the Scala and really pleased with how they look and sit.
  48. Yes that has the markings of an orignal battery. These are the direct drop in size for your car (as you have a shroud around the outside it appears) https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/types/027/ You have currently a 60Ah and 480CCA rating, you will want to make sure you exceed both values or match. There is a Varta D24 a 60Ah with 540CCA that I would fit as minimum Then you have a Varta D15 a 63Ah with 610CCA, as you can see it has more power You have also the Bosch S5 005 made in the same factory as Varta (out of stock on Tanya)
