  1. Thats not a Spider!!!!!!!!! It's an aerodynamic, max attack, dragster, death arachnid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why in the name of baby Cheeses did anything so evil come into existence??
  2. That's a great capture. I often see a kingfisher on one of my favourite walks, but either never have a camera or it's in flight and I can't quite catch it. I've recently had an update of Lightroom Classic and it's give a new filter which simulates a fast lens, so I ran your picture through it to see what would happen (it's a new toy, so you have to play with it of course ) and although it doesn't improve on your capture it gives it a slightly different look ie a narrow depth of field. Might be a bit too much in the settings I used, but it's a fun thing to play with. Hope you don't mind

  4. For Sale My Skoda Fabia Mk1 VRS £1,600 Mine for 8 years I think now, the guy I had it off had it for 8 I think. (I still have his original advert from when I bought it actually). I used it as a daily driver for many years before replacing it with another TD 1.9 Turbo car, my Audi. It has been reliable, nippy and cheap to run. I took it off the road in 2022 to get some of the jobs done, hoping the Audi would see me through until I got all the Skoda jobs done, but as I now have 5 cars and space for 3 I have to get one of them sold and that’s the Fabia. Over the past 12 months I’ve welded all the corrosion on the sills, primered, stone chipped and then sprayed. I've replaced the torq screws here and there on the inner wing liners. I'll be waxoyl-ling the sill cavities next week. Resprayed the bonnet in solid gloss black and front and back bumper in 2K base and lacquer, same as the sills. Interior is standard and better than most with seats unripped. Suspension has new Eibach Pro lowered springs 25mm, new at the front and rears have been on about 6,000 which came out the same kit for all 4 corners. Bilstein rear dampers have also seen 6,000 miles. The front has Bilstein B8 Sprint Shocks which I’ve repainted as they were getting a bit scruffy. New Meyle upper bearing cups and Meyle mounts on the front dampers. I replaced the front drop links about 3 years back. New vented brake upgrade kit discs, with TT calipers and new pads. Repainted and powder coated callipers. New disc backplates and bolts all round. A new FEBI front hoses on the one side and new FEBI steering rack rubbers. New FAI trackrod ends, new front wishbones with ball joints (I think both FAI), new MEYLE HD Cupra Cup type, console bushings. New rear caliper handbrake springs. Battery is a recent Exide 77ah one with a 5 year guarantee that I’ve had, 2 years? Paintwork is good-OK, there’s a scratch on the drivers door that was there when I bought the car and is/was on my to-do list. I’ve polished the rest of the panels, a few minor dings but nothing nasty. There’s stone chips of the tops of the wings that could do with being done at some point. Some scuffs on the NS passenger mirror. Exhaust is fine, had regular oil changes with Castrol Magnatec, the car had a remap and comes with the SHARK box to send to the ECU or revert to stock tune. With this is idles a bit uneven but never in the many years on the road was it an issue. What needs doing? I had the steering rack replaced 5-6 years ago but as it’s leaking it will want another one. As I’ve replaced both trackrod ends, it will want re-tracking too. Some broken plastics in the engine bay around the battery tray, cosmetic stuff really. Is it mint? No, but it’s better than most, been cared for, never stolen or crashed unlike a lot of Fabia VRS’s and it hasn’t been thrashed in the last 15 years. Pretty much stock looking just a little lower. All the replaced parts are quality as I was planning on keeping the car and I don’t have to sell it but space is more the problem. Years worth of receipts. I’ve kept everything and the previous owner kept most! Wheels freshly powder coated May 2024, in light grey metallic. Wheels balanced too. Here's a link to the pictures in a Flickr album > https://www.flickr.com/photos/24990899@N05/albums/72177720311551122 £1,600. 152,875 miles Sound about right? No swaps as I've got enough cars, ta! West Midlands just off the M5, Junction 3. (Above Latest pictures from June 2024) (Below, pictures from 2023)
  5. I see a Kingfisher from time to time on a waterway near me (Horsey Sewer). It's such a beautiful little bird. I've long since given up trying to get a photo of it, and just enjoy seeing it when I do 😎
  6. Stunning pictures

Further developments with the keys. I thought it would be a good idea to fit the keys with new Duracells to pre empt any problems in the future with dead batteries. After replacing the batteries, I thought I would try the keys to see if they would unlock the doors, which they wouldn't. However, after I'd put the key in the ignition and turned it , I took the key out and without thinking pressed one of the buttons on the key and it worked. Same thing with the spare key, wouldn't work to lock/unlock the doors, until the key had been turned in the ignition, it would not lock/unlock the doors. Thought this might bevof interest to anyone in the future with a similar problem.

Ordered January 2022.. Today delivered. Fingers crossed the honeymoon period is long lasting and trouble free!!!!
  9. 1.6TDI (CLHA) 2014 Elegance Estate 275,000 miles. 2 owners 2 cambelts & waterpumps 5 speed Front struts ,rear shocks. Replacement brake master cylinder. Faulty wiring repaired on intercooler water pump (due to too many oil changes tugging on the loom) 17" Alloy wheels badly corroded causing leaks, changed to 16" steels as they're lighter and more comfortable! New blower fan. 1 new wheel bearing. Still on original turbo, injectors, DPF and clutch - although it's recently started juddering in 1st & reverse and due to be replaced. Engine is smooth and quiet and pulls like a train (for a 1.6!) and uses negligible oil. Recently sailed through its MOT with no advisories and very clean emissions.
  10. Lovely sunset earlier, although very cold 🥶
  11. Please stick by your words this time, it was only a few days ago you said you were stopping, not sure if it was this thread or not but it was the same nonsence, I don't think you even stopped for breath.
  12. Couple from last week
  13. The Octavia MK4 2.0TDI VRS 200HP comes with 312x25mm front brake discs so the minimum rim size is 16". The Octavia MK4 2.0TSI VRS 245HP comes with 340x25mm front brake discs so the minimum rim size is 17".
  14. My Daughter's currently in Nairobi, meeting hefalumps: And not a hefalump: Gaz
  15. Probably worth posting an autoscan from VCDS along with an adaptation map from 09 👍
  16. Does look like one, you can gently prise the facia off and it's four torx screws (size 25?) And it'll fall out. What I cant find is what to do with the integrated airbag light from the stereo. If fitting a new one do you have to connect the airbag indicator and just leave it in the dash? Does it even come out of the stereo?

@chris666 thanks for reporting back But are you sure you didn't just do a key (remote) synchronization as in the first part of AGFalco's post on 5th October, as detailed in the Owner's Manual? From 2017/11 Owner's Manual. - If (the VW) "emergency" unlocking the driver's door using the key blade as soon as the driver's door is opened the alarm goes off.
  18. Why is it always after I buy a car that something else tasty comes up? Must. Resist. Temptation. (and the subsequent "why the f*** did you buy that" comment from the neighbours when we have YET ANOTHER car parked on the street) Good luck with the sale, though.
  19. Ta, you have to click on the image to see the soft blur of the background properly, it also makes the foreground a little less 'busy' if you see what I mean. Not figured out how to make it more apparent without softening off the Kingfisher itself.
  20. The OE P7s were cracking badly on the tread edge at 38k (and annoyingly, all 4 still had 3mm all over) so changed them for new Conti All Season. Only covered 4K but are much quieter which is great.
  21. No happy for you to play amanda ,you did once improve a kestrel in flight that i took 👍
  22. Reduced to £2,000. That sound that sound about right? I'd like it sold ideally before the winter.
  23. Weeeelllllll, recovery of vehicle seems to be low priority (as in scrapping all the cars in that car park): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-67117301 It makes financial sense, assume average car cost 15k for insurance to pay out. That would be "only" 18mil, not paid by Luton airport. Building the car park costed £20 mil (sorry, only source I can find from quick google) , never mind lost revenue during downtime. For the airport, getting it back and running is more important. Doesn't make sense from every other perspective though. Especially unfair to those people who would loose their car that is otherwise recoverable. Flat ground long-stay might be better option. Try to park up wind and towards top of the hill from other cars.
  24. Here I changed the image in the "Car" menu
  25. Einsteinian relativity shows us that higher velocity makes cars (and anything else) heavier; logically therefore electric cars must have "heavying acceleration" if the accelerate faster...
  26. Also got some photos that were took coming over hartside pass on the way home. Think it was a guy called bikerphoto? Fun times.
  27. True it doesn't seem fair but you will be a higher risk now because of where you drive and the fact that the accidents have proved your risk rating to be higher than others...
  28. Sky was beautifully clear today - this flew over at 34k feet ✈️
  29. I have an open mind, I'm not ruling it out, I will now immerse myself in Youtube warp core conspiracy videos to link to on here 😀
  30. ‘Fraid I’m getting bored now… Please can the interminable of who said what or who meant what about diesel and/or Li-ion get its own thread.
  31. Oh good grief. I'm done with this now.
  32. New cars use a thinner oil and run much hotter, they will burn through oil whereas older cars just used to leak it out like a sieve 😂
  33. I really am now loosing interest in this 'Truth about electric cars' which has now gone all 'possibly a hybrid' and such guff. I want to use the term used by the artist formally knows as @KenONeill, This is supposedly about Scalextric cars. So they can burn, burn hot, even burn liquid fuel if they are range extenders. It is how it is and it will be politicians and civil servants that make decisions on parking and storage and all that guff, nobody on here though.
  34. A good few threads on the Octavia section of Octavia 3 models destroying themselves by fire. No shortage in my experience of jcb fastracs destroying themselves by fire. All vehicles road, rail, water, air, whatever have set on fire. If it’s on fire then the diesel tank will eventually go bang, if it’s petrol the tank will eventually go bang, if it’s electric with an x tens of kw battery that will eventually go bang, jet aircraft will explode. Now, horse and carts, they’re pretty safe fire wise.
  35. New brake discs and pads all round. DBA T3x rotors + Xtreme Performance pads on the front and T2t rotors + Street Performance pads. Pedal feel is great, feeling more linear and firm. Definitely less initial bite but it’s not like they need to be warmed up.
  36. Use any oil to the Spec VW 504 00 / 507 00 so 5w 30 FS III. ASDA, TESCO etc are fine, proper oil produced by proper oil compaines. Or go non Long life oil at the next Oil & Filter change. VW502 00 so basically '5w 40 FS'. Fixed Service Oil Changes, 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner. Non Long Life oil and a long living 2.0 TSI Euro 5 / 6. .............. If running it on E10 95 Ron maybe get in E5 97 or 99 ron. Maybe Tesco Momentum 99 or Sainsbury,s Super Unleaded 97 ron Minimum. Winter spec petrol starts getting delivered starting in Scotlsnd and North of England from now.
  37. Was fortunate enough to arrive just as the sky lit up - colour had faded within minutes !
  38. Thank you! I saw this set mentioned before. Will look into it, but I also want to go to a car hi-fi shop in my area to see what they can do for me.
  39. Neah, nobody is laughing. Confusions happen all the time Now it depends on your budget, you can go for Match products that come with OE plug and play harnesses, you can go for Vibe/Hifonics, Jbl BassProHub spare wheel subwoofer and so on. If you are new to this the best way to go is drive to a car Hi-Fi specialist and start there from the budget that starts from ~600 and...well....much higher limits depending on your wallet size. Regarding the Audi sub, you will surely find a member here that will want it, very soon Here are some examples: https://www.ars24.com/lautsprecher/nach-automarke/skoda/26846/skoda-octavia-iv-front-und-heck-lautsprecher-dsp-verstaerker-subwoofer-v4-sound-upgrade https://hertz-audio.com/collections/car-audio-speakers/
  40. Lol, I understand the confusion on me having Canton or not. Should have checked better because my sub is delivered today but it seems I don't have Canton 😅. I always thought I did have it because of the center speaker under the windshield. Can someone tell me what my options are now? I'm thinking these: 1. Connect the Audi sub only to original audio system? Is this possible? I know I have the space for it in the back but what needs to be done to get it working on the default audio system? Pull power and speaker cables from front to back? 2. Connect Audi sub and replace front windshield, tweeters and door speakers? I think I will also need an amplifier to handle it all? 3. Get a custom sound system build in. I like a bit of oomph but I'm not really an audiophile so not keen on spending 1k+ on it. My preference would be option 1 or 2 and have it done at my local car shop which has helped me out for honourable prices before. Can someone tell me if that is possible and what I would need to by and do to get it working? And yes..... you can all laugh at me for not checking it properly before buying the Audi subwoofer. I did too haha 😂
  41. Up in lakes for a few days
  42. “We're trying to explore functions on demand and give customers the chance to order the features online,” its head of sales and marketing, Martin Jahn, told Autocar at the launch of the Kodiaq in Berlin last week. TranslateCynic gives "we are going to rip off our customers" If you could download air over the internet they would deliver the vehicles with flat tyres. 😒
  43. Lovely evening earlier..........
  44. We went up to the Smoke today (East Sheen to be precise) to see relatives. Decided to spend a glorious afternoon at Richmond Park on the way back. Saw lots of deer 😎 including this one which was right by my car: Some pillock decided to offer it some grass. Like the grass that was immediately all around it 🙄 I was willing it to kick or skewer him, but sadly it was better behaved than the idiot humans around it. Quite a number enjoying the shade: And I quite liked this later afternoon photo. Mrs Gaz very pleased at her long legs (!), me on my Brommie: Gaz
  45. for that purpose, I'd probably just get a 12v or USB heated pad or cover, easier and cheaper.
  46. As you are running Skoda "lowered ride height" springs, ie. 5Q0411105HE front and 3Q0511115AC rear, you could change to the slightly stiffer 5Q0411105HF (about 5% stiffer) or 5Q0411105HG (about 10% stiffer) "lowered ride height" front springs, and 3Q0511115AD (about 5% stiffer) "lowered ride height" rear springs. 5Q0411105HE "lowered ride height" front springs https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/5q0411105he?search=OEN 5Q0411105HE&supplier[0]=112 5Q0411105HF "lowered ride height" front springs (about 5% stiffer) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/5q0411105hf?search=OEN 5Q0411105HF&supplier[0]=112 5Q0411105HG "lowered ride height" front springs (about 10% stiffer) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/5q0411105hg?search=OEN 5Q0411105HG&supplier[0]=112 3Q0511115AC "lowered ride height" rear springs https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/3q0511115ac?search=OEN 3Q0511115AC&supplier[0]=112 3Q0511115AD "lowered ride height" rear springs (about 5% stiffer) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/3q0511115ad?search=OEN 3Q0511115AD You might have a job finding Eibach sports springs that give you a suitable stiffness and ride height for a Superb MK3 4WD estate that is going to be used for towing.
