  1. that’s news to me. I’ve been driving for 18 years, half of which I’ve been a front line police officer. In that time I’ve attended/dealt with all types of collisions from minor damage to fatal collisions. I’ve personally dealt with insurance companies for hundreds of insurance claims involving: stolen vehicles, criminal damage, material damage collisions, minor and serious injury collisions and fatal collisions and never in my life have I EVER heard of an insurance company refusing to payout a claim because a car had 19” wheels instead of 18” wheels. This notion that “they need to know” annoys me so much. I’m not trying to argue with anybody or come across as condescending but telling people to ring their insurance company because they changed their wheels is absolute nonsense IN MY OPINION. that’s just my 2 cents worth from actual real life experience in the real world.
  2. Finally got this over the line, I know some people don’t get the alcantara thing, but feels mega to me. Thanks to @Dahmich and @ApertureS.
  3. The only car that have experienced the driven wheels scrabbling for grip in was the last Passat I had before I made the transition to Superbs, 21 years ago, and all of my Superbs have only been 2WD. I think the key is to apply power gradually when pulling away, and not launching the car as if you're in some sort of race.
  4. There are no sensors in the wheels, they use the ABS sensors. Find someone who knows what they are doing / talking about
  5. Very foggy this evening......... 20231201_182916.mp4
  6. He was very confident that he would make it home even though the range figure was down to a couple of miles and the limited performance still allowed to him to up to 50 mph which is plenty on Orkney. Zoe has about a 2 kWh buffer which will allow one to go several miles past zero, just like an ICE car but without the cavitation on the fuel pump damage. Zoe has been the range King, or perhaps Queen, for the last 4 years or so and is good in winters as models are fitted with Heat Pump. Heated seats were on the shortage list when I got my Riviera model so I fitted and after market one and that helps mileage rather than heating the whole cabin to 20C plus. I reckon I can get over 200 miles even in zero C conditions using ECO and heated driving seat. It
  7. Hold the window in the up position for 2 seconds, then put it all the way down, hold the window in the down position for 2 seconds. Sorted
  8. This seems like a good place for discussing the Tesla Truck. What an ugly barstand IMO. Not even with the appeal of a DeLorean. I am sure there will be ones come to the UK and likely to my area where some totally inappropriate wide yanks tanks are about on narrow roads.
  9. I agree, It would be hard for me to go back on a 2WD now. I had a look at an O4 VRS recently (with full petrol engine, not an iV one), since we should need less space and I also fear the Superb Mk4 prices keep on increasing. But I was disappointed to discover in the technical documents, that the O4 VRS is a 2WD. Additionnaly, I think 245HP is too much, to transfer all power to the ground with a single axle (front axle BTW). Some other cars look interesting for us, but my wife replied me: What? You won't go for a 4WD for the next car?!? It's safer in winter and when we go to winter sports... In this cas I can call her 'SWMBO' 🤣...
  10. It's a good thing to hypothesize, when you're not sure... But sorry to ruin your assumption. Brake switch is reference 1K0945459A and IS located onto the brake pedal. Just have a look to any online ETKA. Regarding the coding modification, it does not depend on the sensor / switch location, but on the way it has been integrated in the system and coded, and... the tool you use to change the code (e.g. VCP may be required when VCDS cannot do it). When you change a coding, it's the SW in a control unit that you modify. Thus, nothing to do with sensor or switch location.
  11. …. as long as the owner has always worn green socks and sprinkles 00’s and 000’s on their bacon sarnies every other time they eat one and that must be before 05.00 on the third Wednesday of the month preceding Lent.
  12. Please stop yelling like a madman.
  13. Ah, someone made a mistake at Tesla, still isn't corrected on UK website. https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck It's 6,843 lbs on US website, which is about 3,100 kg. More reasonable than the Hummer EV, which is 4,373 kg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_Hummer_EV
  14. I'm a big fan of Goodyear Vector 4Seasons, gen2 or 3. Have them on all three of our cars and found them faultless.
  15. A lire si vous êtes un con 😀 I have third party only liability which they will always pay out on, I dont really give a four X for any of the conditions which would not affect me, its the car that is insured not the driver, they have a condition that if someone under 18 is driving and has an accident then my franchise (excess) is doubled, except twice nothing is still nothing, there is nothing that I could claim for so I could never pay a franchise.
  16. Thank you for the clarification. I finally sorted the problem it was a faulty card reader causing the problem, purchased another and it works. Don't suppose anyone knows if you can import points of interest ( speed cameras) onto this head unit!
  17. What do you mean by fan module? I think on your car the fan control module will be built into the main radiator fan.
  18. Well after just over 2 years the Mokka has gone.... and im Back to V A G.... a POLO!!!! 1.0 R-line 110 DSG in Reef Blue
  19. I doubt changing the wheels within the specification of the Model would negate the insurance. But the insurance would only cover up to the value of the wheels expected to be fitted, unless they were aware of what you fitted. I.e if you changed steel to alloy or alloy to expensive aftermarket alloy without notification you couldn't claim the extra if the car was a total loss. It is my understanding that only mods that make the car illegal on the road that would invalidate insurance. (Modifications not declared would not be covered for replacement if stolen)

They were supposed to adapt the new battery, I'm surprised they didn't know this and let you go without doing it until you complained. Specialist indeed!
  21. So if the switch was fitted to the pedal box how do the lights stay on when the pedal is released? I'm not trying to be difficult, just want to understand what we are dealing with.
  22. Are you actually being serious?
  23. Trunk frozen shut by water/ice?
  24. Will it pass European Type Approval. I am pretty sure if i built a kit car like this and took it for an IVA test the corners / edges would fail it.
  25. He replied on YouTube. At Kinross to reminisce. I like to reminisce but miles out of the route in poor weather in an EV and I will do it at reliable locations.
  26. I have used (UK?) Mobil 1 15w-50 Motorsport for a number of years in a few cars built in the 1970s (with engines designed in the 1950s) and in newer or new cars built in the 1990s (with engine designed in 1950s) and had no problems with it, a good oil but I could have got better if I had wanted, on engines with metal rocker covers I could hear the "tappets" more but it never worried me. Not been able to get it new in UK for a number of years and old stock was very difficult to find a number of years back too. Personally as I put I would not worry about VW numbers for your VW made Skoda engine and take Viscosity Index as a guide only. "The viscosity index (VI) is an arbitrary, unitless measure of a fluid’s viscosity change relative to a temperature change." - https://www.tribonet.org/wiki/viscosity-index/ Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 (synthetic) (*GB) Kinematic Viscosity @ 100°C, cSt. – 12.8 Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt. – 75.7 Viscosity Index – 170 (*GB) - https://www.shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en-GB/a779a5f5-2cc7-44ab-b772-6e9fc36d99b0.pdf Repsol 5W-50 Master Racing (synthetic) Viscosity at 100 ºC cSt – 17.5 Viscosity at 40 ºC cSt – 116 Viscosity index - 169 https://lubricants.repsol.com/content/dam/repsol-corporate/en_gb/productos-y-servicios/lubricantes-documentos/MASTER_RACING_5W-50_EN.pdf Mobil 1 15w-50 Kinematic Viscosity @ 100 C – 18 Kinematic Viscosity @ 40 C – 125 Viscosity Index (ASTM D2270) – 160 https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/for-personal-vehicles/our-products/products/mobil-1-15w-50 So - if you just go by the numbers Mobil 1 15w-50 would be your winner, so why not give second place Repsol 5W-50 Master Racing another try as you didn't push it too hard and don't remember anything about noise last use. It's a 5w for your winter use and 50 for your summer city traffic and hard mountain driving and claims to be designed "for powerful vehicles used daily in any environment and circumstances".
  27. I stopped using Kinross at the park and ride which stayed free while Fife council charged elsewhere because they never owned the car park because of the 2 BMW i3,s that hogged the 2 rapids that worked and the other was hit or miss. There is charging at the Services but expensive. I must look in past again sometime . Ps. Why was he in Fife?. Abington. Past Stirling. Stirling Castle View park and ride. Or Achterarder then Perth to Inverness. Aviemore Tesla non Tesla if needs must.
  28. Oh dear, it seems Mr Sadiq Khan could not, or more likely, would not answer questions about ULEZ put to him from audience members at the recent question time, the last 4 minutes are I think very damming of the entire scheme, it would seem that there is indeed something to hide after all. Maybe he can't or won’t answer the questions is because he is hiding this, which also came out at a meeting with peers in the same week?
  29. I think that this is impossible.

Not that I recall, could still lock and unlock the car. Warning light on the door card may not illuminate or be permanent on - indicating a fault on the system.
  31. Then run the Haldex on RS3 coding. Then you don't even have to press the ESC button and it can still get around the rear easily.
  32. Here is the whole list, keep in mind that in first years there was no internet, no forums, no e-stores etc but only some advises from car magazines-other drivers and local mechanics. Inevitably due misinformation some mistakes could happen. I do an oil and filter and a pollen filter every year. every other year I do that and the air filter and check coolant. brake fluid and haldex every 3yrs (pump removed and strainer cleaned) dsg service and plugs every 4yrs i do low mileage, so haldex and dsg were both done between 20-30k. I prefer preventative rather than necessary maintenance and I’m happy enough with the additional costs of doing so. That however is up to each individual owner. Should have said, I removed my silica bottle for a genuine non silica bottle as soon as I got the car, which was at about 4 months old. Hence the check coolant every 2yrs as above.
  34. I have tried my app this morning and all seems to be working ok, so the must have sorted the Server out !
  35. First time I drove the 280 on snow and ice (& still on the P7’s then btw) and I was amazed how the car gripped the surface. There were FW and RWD vehicles scatted on the sides of the road. Like you Colin, I wouldn’t go back to a 2WD vehicle.
  36. It's hard to go back to 2 wheel drive once you've experienced 4 x 4 in winter conditions. I was driving my wife's Kona EV yesterday in damp frosty UK conditions & even in low power Eco mode the front tyres were scrabbling for grip at every roundabout & road junction at the slightest push of the accelerator pedal. No such problems in my Superb.
  37. Lol, as mentioned already above - find urself a new tyre place. Ur car has indirect TPMS. It has no internal wheel sensors, and uses the ABS sensors to determine tyre pressure loss, based on rotational speed. U can swap ur tyres front to back, left right, diagonal, any way ur heart is content - the TPMS won't blink an eye lid. Even if u did have direct TPMS, i.e. with wheel sensors inside, u can still swap tyres around without any issues. I have direct TPMS in my Superb, and I've swapped the tyres around with no issues at all. The TPMS module uses relative position to determine the wheel sensor location, and adapts to suit.
  38. 3,100kg is still pretty close to the limit on a standard post-1996 UK licence of 3,500kg - so any "extra load" version that Tesla might introduce would have a more limited market in the UK.
  39. Don't mix everything. Handbrake uses electric motors on the rear pads only and there's no switch connected to the brake light on this system. We were talking on the main hydraulic brake system with brake pedal, which has a switch behind the brake pedal.
  40. A good observation. I definitely honed my skills on old nails with skinny balding cross ply tyres, snow was a summons to go out and play, sometimes with not so good consequences. Anybody remember James Hunt owning an A35 van and his comments on why he did so? I took my driving test in a complete nail of an A35, I had bolted up tight the sliding clevis to the mechanical rear brakes from the master cylinder, it was the only way to get them to work (for my limited experience), it meant when you braked hard the handbrake lever came up and held the brakes on with its ratchet, as the lever was between the drivers seat and door I thought the examiner would not notice me repeatedly releasing it, quite the opposite but I believe he realised that if I was capable of double declutching (syncro was shot on all gears) while keeping a straight trajectory against the wheel shimmy with one hand while pushing the handbrake down with the other I perhaps deserved to pass. I took my test 14 days after my birthday and had no driving lessons from anybody, when he told me I had passed and asked for my license he saw that it was already full of endorsements 😒
  41. Worn piston rings will have zero effect on oil pressure, if they are indeed worn (does the vehicle have a thirst for oil?) then that will have an economic bearing on whether you spend more money or sell the vehicle on. Vehicles like this get sold on and on through the trade each time causing grief to another retail punter who throws it back, eventually they get to someone like myself who likes a challenge and to buy cheap. I nearly always see similar evidence of the parts cannon being fired with the customers money and the solution every time to date touch wood has been either low cost or no cost. My gut feeling is that the piston ring jets are in constant operation through a stuck valve or wiring fault, it could also be a missing flow restrictor to the valve gear or the wrong gasket used, maybe a seal missing on the oil pump. Did they or you check the O rings on the oil filter centre spigot? That sounded like a strong possibility.
  42. Because raising the CoG of a vehicle always improves handling right!
  43. You would also need the correct Licence to drive it.
  44. Maybe if you can get them to admit it is the problem? I was told today after pressure testing and no fault found with a 1-2cm drop in water coolant bottle level after it was topped up 2500 miles ago, that "these types of engines use water! " having owned petrol TSI since 2015, that is not my experience. I explained to the technician and he agreed it was a common fault. 'Customer to monitor' so I will monitor..... and then will probably have to go back again.
  45. I've not seen that exact problem, but although I agree it's a great function on a cold day I find it rarely works first thing in the morning. It usually fails with a "couldn't connect" error, which leads me to suspect that Skoda's servers aren't able to keep up with the demand at peak times. A function which only works when you don't need it is pretty useless 😒
  46. I have to agree with @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits, the sound I like is completely different to what my brother likes and what my SO likes.
  47. Welcome. Your tyre question is covered in lots of threads in the Karoq section and also in the Wheel & Tyres threads. Asked or discussed every winter.

Finally... after 26 months I picked up my Octavia PHEV. Ordered on August 29, 2021. Received on October 30, 2023. Gray graphite Style 1.4 PHEV Dynamic package, Selection package, side assist with rear traffic alert, soundproof glass, heated windshield, rear window wiper, 230V socket, alarm In July 2023, I received information that production was possible, but I had to pay extra +16% of the original 2021 price. 😵 For a month I wrote emails with the dealer myself, because the order included information about the price change ONLY if VAT or excise duty changes, but I lost patience, because they stubbornly claimed that there was no other option than an additional payment. 😠 I handed the case over to a lawyer and the lawyer fought for me for 3 months. He won the 2021 price. 👍 There is joy with the car, but distaste for the dealer remains. 😟 I wish everyone a short delivery time and a hassle-free dealership. 😊
  49. Just a guide on how to do it urself would be nice.
