  1. A real privilege to witness the Starling Murmuration at Idle Valley nature reserve earlier 🙏🏻 YouCut_20231202_222343686~2.mp4 YouCut_20231202_222839477~2.mp4
  2. Dusty as anything, but it's winter and I'm not cleaning it because I'm already cold. Photo taken by the co-pilot, even if she was nearly sitting on me to get it
  3. I can’t always catch the big number on the dot missed this one today on my old steed the 2005/55 MK2 Octy 1.9 TDI Elegance. Hardly does many miles now. I can confess to at least 231K of them private miles in my ownership since 2009
  4. Did you see the final thread starter's post in your second example regarding the ppf? "Hi All I FINALLY have an update! After almost coming to 1 year since the incident took place! This will be a juicy read! Final Decision from the ombudsman What happened Mr A’s car was damaged by a third party, so he claimed on his policy with ***. When his car was inspected it was discovered it had a clear paint protection film (PPF) applied to the bodywork. *** reviewed the claim and decided to decline it, avoid Mr A’s policy and refund his premium. It said this was because Mr A’s car was modified and if it had known about the PPF wrap then it wouldn’t have covered his car. Mr A didn’t think this was fair and complained, he didn’t agree the PPF was a modification as it hadn’t changed how the car looked and was there to protect the paint. *** reviewed the complaint and didn’t uphold it. It maintained its position that Mr A had failed to take reasonable care when taking out the policy. It said the PPF was what is known as a “wrap” and Mr A should have declared it when taking the policy out. *** said if he had then it wouldn’t have offered him a policy. Mr A didn’t think that was fair and brought his complaint here What I’ve decided – and why I’ve considered all the available evidence and arguments to decide what’s fair and reasonable in the circumstances of this complaint. The relevant law in this case is The Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012 (CIDRA). This requires consumers to take reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation when taking out a consumer insurance contract (a policy). The standard of care is that of a reasonable consumer. And if a consumer fails to do this, the insurer has certain remedies provided the misrepresentation is - what CIDRA describes as - a qualifying misrepresentation. For it to be a qualifying misrepresentation the insurer has to show it would have offered the policy on different terms or not at all if the consumer hadn’t made the misrepresentation. CIDRA sets out a number of considerations for deciding whether the consumer failed to take reasonable care. And the remedy available to the insurer under CIDRA depends on whether the qualifying misrepresentation was deliberate or reckless, or careless. *** thinks Mr A failed to take reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation when he took out the policy online. Mr A originally used an aggregator site and then was put through to ***. I’ve looked at the question Mr A was asked which says: “Has the car been modified in any way?” There is an explanation next to the question which says: “A modification is any change to the manufacturer’s original specification or features. That includes things like new stereos, body kits or spoilers, alloy wheels, new paintwork and any performance enhancement. I’m therefore not persuaded he’s failed to take reasonable care not to make a misrepresentation. And so, it follows that *** has no remedies under CIDRA. I’ve therefore looked at the impact on Mr A from *** unfairly avoiding his policy. *** refunded his premium and declined his claim. Mr A’s explained that due to the avoidance he’s had to do temporary repairs and that the insurance premiums have increased. I asked our investigator to let both parties know that I intended to direct *** to: 1. Remove any adverse entries related to the cancellation placed on any internal or external databases 2. Pay the claim in line with the terms and conditions of the policy. Mr A has said he’s paid £1,585 for temporary repairs. If these aren’t lasting and effective repairs, then *** will need to re-do the repairs to ensure the damage caused in the accident is repaired to acceptable industry standards 3. Pay Mr A the £1,585 he paid for the temporary repairs, as he shouldn’t have had to pay for them. 8% simple interest per year needs to be added to this amount to compensate him for not having the money 4. Pay Mr A £350 as compensation for the distress and inconvenience caused My final decision For the reasons explained above, my final decision is that I uphold this complaint. I require *************** to: 1. Remove any adverse entries related to the avoidance placed on any internal or external databases and provide Mr A with a letter confirming it avoided the policy in error. 2. Pay the claim in line with the terms and conditions of the policy. Mr A has said he’s paid £1,585 for temporary repairs. If these aren’t lasting and effective repairs, then *** will need to re-do the repairs to ensure the damage caused in the accident is repaired to acceptable industry standards. 3. Pay Mr A the £1,585 he paid for the temporary repairs, as he shouldn’t have had to pay for them. 8% simple interest per year needs to be added to this amount, calculated from the date Mr A paid for the repairs until the date of settlement. 4. As *** is paying the claim it’s entitled to the premium. If *** seeks payment for this, it will need to deduct what Mr A paid for his new policy, for the time it would overlap with his policy with ***. 5. Pay Mr A £350 as compensation for the distress and inconvenience caused Under the rules of the Financial Ombudsman Service, I’m required to ask Mr A to accept or reject my decision I WON THE CASE!!! I have accepted the terms above and i am now waiting on *** to get in contact with me they have 4 weeks from the 13th November to get touch and rectify the problems! I haven't heard from them thus far and eagerly awaiting their call so i can finally get out of them what i should've in the 1st place! "
  5. You'll find that almost impossible. There are screws in almost every section of the arch liner, and some would be very difficult to get at with the wheel in place. Even if you managed to get the fixings out you wouldn't be able to get the liner out past the wheel. Just buy a jack and take the wheel off.
  6. Bit late posting this one from last month, missed a few normally by a mile or 3 😪
  7. Looks to me like a faulty display unit.
  8. I've recently returned from a 9 night stay in Tenerife and we hired a Cupra Leon ST auto hybrid for the duration of our stay. It was good, but I prefer the Superb, though to be fair the Superb is more expensive. However, if I was 22 years old rather than 72, I'd probably prefer the Cupra!

  10. Deleting the DCC shocks for regular shocks will upset a lot of other systems on ur car, like the headlights, steering, and others. It's not recommended.
  11. Is it a Monte Carlo. TDI or Tsi ? ? What are the tyres fitted? Maybe only the badge saying Special is the special thing. Maybe the car is not on the factory Sport springs, or the Dealer fitted options. Eibach slightly lower. You need the alignment checked by someone competent and if adjustment needed then done.
  12. This software has been verified as working on the Swing and Swing Plus Radios present on the Skoda Fabia MK3 (2017-2021). It's better to don't proceed if you don't have problems with Carplay crackling: the only benefit will be this and it is not convenient for the rest. Reading below you will understand better why. The following, in fact, is only aimed at remedying Skoda's and/or authorized centers's inertia in resolving this serious defect with Carplay which is a potential violation of consumer legislation and is not intended to be in any way an official guide. Before you proceed: - be aware that if you have a radio that is not the one installed when the car was manufactured, by updating you could have serious operating problems because the "crack" that allows to circumvent the Skoda limitations could be removed. An authorized Skoda center would tell you that it is your problem and that they can't do anything, or ask you to pay a lot of money. Same for those who have second hand cars: the radio may have been replaced unofficially and you could have the problem above. - in the same SERVICE MODE menu check that the longest string of the installed version begins with MEN2_EU_SKGPx_ because if it is not, it is practically certain that this software is not suitable for your radio - be aware that those who updated had no problems arriving from software versions 8740 and 8742: if you have previous software, we don't know if it will work. Some users have suggested doing gradual updates (not verified if this is correct). If anyone has updated from previous versions please report it here. - be aware that in any case everything is at your own risk: it seems that many users here have not had any problem with the update. But it is a procedure that intervenes in different components of the car and as in all electronic matters something can go wrong. - be aware that the installation will be fully tracked: the radio will memorize the date and time of the installation. An alert will be activated in the 5F control unit (a harmless fault that can remain forever without creating consequences), precisely aimed at notifying the Skoda assistance network at the first service that an update has been made and this has not been confirmed with the official instrumentation. The warranty is clearly potentially compromised, or they may ask you for money to remove the error (even if it takes them very little). Because on the date and time you did the update the car was not in service in any Skoda center. It depends on how and who manages this alert. Below you will find further information on this alert and how it can be removed with the appropriate tools. PROCEDURE You have to: - use an SD card. It also seems to work in a pendrive but for now no user has confirmed it and in any case it is a less stable device. Always format in FAT32. - download the zip, extract the files and place them in the main folder of the SD/Pendrive. So no subfolders: just the various BT folders, etc. and the metainfo2.txt file. - insert the SD/Pendrive into the car, hold down the SETUP button until the SERVICE MODE menu opens, then open "software update / version" and press UPDATE. The system will ask for confirmation, do a few reboots, and finally, when everything is finished, it will want the Volkswagen "diagnosis tester" device to be connected. Here you can solve it by pressing cancel. The alert will be created in the control unit, as I mentioned above. If you don't want problems with Skoda, you can remove the trace in the ECU via the diagnostic socket: search google/youtube for "Checking software version management" and B201A to better understand how to do it. However, in fact: you need a specific device and software, like OBDEleven or others. Or you can do it without paying a software using a simple OBD2 elm327 dongle and apps like Car Scanner, but error removal procedure can be risky if not done with extreme caution. Nothing impossible, but here too, it is right that you know everything. One possibility, however, is that the Skoda technician could pass by instantly, out of haste or by choice. But if there is a problem, even if it was Skoda who tricked us into doing the upgrade ourselves, you can become the guilty party. I say this because in some parts of Europe there are testimonies of how the 8755 software is declared not compatible with some systems on a prudential basis although it absolutely is in reality (I guess they didn't want to make adequate investments on tests to be sure). They often don't care about Carplay crackling even if under warranty, saying: "Keep the car with the problem, Volkswagen doesn't authorize us to work on this, sue us if you want". Like I said: if we filed a class action against VW we would win and we would have money. But little money and legal fees to advance. And it's a problem that's too ridiculous and quick to solve. About the signature error on replaced radios / second hand cars: surely there is a further unofficial way to remedy this, but you have to search the web and you definitely need at least one OBD2 device. I cannot help you in any way on these issues, including the "Checking software version management" error. It's useless to ask me, I'm sorry. Here is a link to the update that should not expire: https://ln5.sync.com/dl/317e3e7e0#x48kb45t-c729295p-faxdwai4-und5yx7w password: carplay
  13. ^^^ Those threads get posted as examples quite a lot, but then they are b0llocks. As to Mr.Loophole the solicitor in this country. That country is England & he possibly gets people off in Wales. If he practices in Scotland then good, different laws here and as far as Sheriffs & Judges and who ever is dealing with cases we hope they are on the ball.
  14. @sussamb the OP says. "Nothing comes up when i search the topic title." I had to google, 'acerbic' due to my ignorance and lack of education. The OP was dead right. My post was exactly that. Because of the first line of their post.

  17. Quick update on this. I did the drivers side of the car. One wire was broken and a few others had cracked insultation. I repaired the broken wire and patached up those that were cracked. I'm recovering from a broken shoulder so will do a more permanent job in a few months when I'm fitter and it's warmer. However, even after fixing that wire, nothing worked. I then had another look at the fuses. I checked all the 30 amp fuses and found one that had blown. I swapped it out and everything worked again. This fuse didn't correspond with the fuse for the windows/central locking shown in the owners handbook. Not surprising as the handbook shows the LHD fusebox and they probably changed over time and would not necessarily be updated in the handbook. Glad that everything is now working. It's a bit of work, but using the Amazon/Ebay kits for around £30 is a cost effective option to fix the problem.
  18. I would like thank you so much. I located it correctly. My car has an issue that heating doesn't work well even though engine temperature reaches 90C it still blows cold air for some time, hopefully thermostat change will get the issue solved.
  19. Maybe to consider, I´m not fixed yet. I have to say I wait for prices of both Kodiaq Mk2 and Superb Mk2 and to see them for real, before I decide to go for a ´smaller’ car or not… Anyway, I´ll have a good idea about Cupra soon, since my wife bought a Formentor VZ (245 HP, hybrid version) to replace her Audi Q3 Mk1. Delivery should be in february 2024.
  20. No an 8j wheel with similar offset will not make a significant difference. I have used such wheels in the past and tyre wear and usage has been a non-issue. Insurance discussion aside, crack on.
  21. The drawing is wrong in this case, out of date compared to what's written. For a 2017 Superb, this is another 'wild' ETKA page showing brake light switch of the part number you mention. LLLParts See where it says ".. associated part 611-000,7 ..."? That page is the brake master cylinder, where you can see it mounted on the side, item 7: LLLParts See how the representation of this "brake light sensor" looks just like the parts shown in google image results of the part number (and quite unlike the image of the pedal version in the other ETKA page)? Look on your car in the two places, photograph what you see.
  22. Unfortunately yes, it sounds like it.
  23. Well the problem occurred again today, parked up. Went to open the boot and nothing, tried the all doors lock button twice, nothing just solidly closed. Went back into the car, tried unlocking it via my dash button, made no difference. Then held my keyfob button down (the boot open only function), it popped open straight away. Although my issue is extremely intermittent, it can go three months without issue. I also have the skoda extended warranty which covers locks, but presumably they'd have to replicate the issue which may be next to impossible at the moment, but at least for now when it does happen again, at least I should be able to open it.
  24. So @kodiaqsportline I am quoting Adrian flux directly here: “The definition of a ‘modified’ vehicle, as far as insurance is concerned, is a vehicle that has been altered from factory standard (or since it has left the factory). This could be anything from installing a new engine to simply adding a bumper sticker, but every modification you make to your car comes with a compromise.” so someone replaces their car mats with ones from Halfords instead of factory standard Škoda mats. or someone replaces their window wipers with cheap halford ones instead of factory standard ones or someone just replaces their 18” alloys for 19” alloys like I’m talking about in the post. are you honestly coming on here saying someone’s insurance is going to be void?? Come on, seriously. That reminds me, I must ring my insurance company Monday and ask them is it ok that I used autofill ceramic coating on my car yesterday as it didn’t come from the factory like this.
  25. Just to clarify something. Connecting via Bluetooth will not give you android auto (AA). You need a cable on your generation of car to get AA. If you are listening to the car audio (radio, cd, etc.) then you won't get the navigation commands from your phone to play through the car when they kick in. You will need to be on media/Bluetooth for that. Then you won't be able to listen to radio. Can we know why the reluctance to use a cable? AA really is quite good and you can listen to the cars audio sources while still having the maps in the screen. This should also then interrupt the audio with the nav instructions as you are hoping to get.

Take the fuse board cover off, there is an icon that looks like a person running away from a sound wave. That will be the fuse to silence it. It won't stop your indicators flashing though whilst alarm is going off. Had the same issue on mine, had to replace the siren which is located under the wiper arms on the scuttle bulkhead, about £200 to replace the siren.
  28. To avoid having to do the sump plug get a PELA 6000 and extract the oil through the dipstick. Simple, easy and no mess. A fair few garages do it in a similar way.
  29. The cold greatly affects the battery. My GTE shows 23 miles this time of year with the heating/AC on. In the summer that is closer to 28. But I actually only get about 15 miles real use in the cold. It gets me to work and then I use dinosaurs to get me home. In the summer hols with no school run I can get to work and back. To summarise: it's the cold. Try turning off AC, heating and all other stuff and you'll get an idea of the real health of the battery.

  34. Confirmed. Another update today, but this time I was given 3 tab options one of which was 'Update now'. Selected 'Upodate now' whilst on the move and the system went and did it's thing without complaining about updates can't take place whilst driving. About time !
  35. My vRS is a month old and not seen any issues reported by other people....
  36. Less than full charge fob batteries can keep going as they warm up but at some point they are just enough not with enough power. Just like the car batteries, and they might decide at around 5 years they are retiring for good.
  37. If you go down that route then for my Yeti I had to also get: VW CanBus Adapter https://a.aliexpress.com/_EjyZELj Dual Fakra Antenna Adapter https://a.aliexpress.com/_EuARKsz You would do good to check your Roomsters current connections to confirm your needs. You can always send me pictures if unsure.

You might need a little more description than 'the thing' 🤣 The ECU will connect to various sensors and controls on the engine. It'll also connect on to the powertrain CAN-bus which is how it communicates with other modules in the car, including the immobiliser and steering wheel controller to start it.
  39. Afraid so. The accountants overruled the engineers - who knew fine when they designed it the internals would corrode and then leak after 5/6 years.

As for posting...I've got so much on...trouble is I'm mainly on the big USA based MK7 Golf forum.....& the owner went AWOL a few years ago...& the place is spam-bot central every day, & the existing Admins don't have the appropriate "rights" to put in place stuff to stop it, so its a constant fire battle...Then in the past 2 months the host servers have been playing up!!....Result:- I'm trying to copy all the stuff I've posted & will some time soon go to a free blogger site & create my own "site" & place up all of my How to guides etc....A few of the other long term members are thinking of doing the same as if the servers crash thats it......all info lost!
