  1. Just wanted to thank the OP! Changed the relay yesterday and this job is not for beginners. Use a soldering fan or bring it to a professional. It is very difficult to get the old relay out with only a normal soldering iron and it's easy to damage the two sided board. With the help of a desoldering pump I got only 4 legs out of 10 cleared. The rest I had to heat one by one and push the relay out until I was able to cut the legs between the board and the relay. TOOK ME HOURS! Comfort module: SIEMENS 6Q1 937 049 D Relay: TYCO V23084-C2002-A403 New alternative relay: HFKD012-2ZST The old relay still worked, but it was short circuiting very rarely, making the fault diagnosing difficult. I opened the old relay and you can see the slightly burnt contacts (I bent it to take the picture). I have owned the car for about 2 years now and this relay has been driving me crazy the whole time. I could hear something short circuiting and even dimming the instrument cluster for half a second and I couldn't figure out what was causing it, as it happened only a couple of times a year and the wipers kept working. Adding the not working power windows to this electronic mess (my next mission), it really didn't help me finding the source of the problem. I have even opened up the comfort module once before to check if there's any moisture damage, while trying to fix the power windows. Finally I realized, that the short circuiting sound was occurring while the wipers were on the intermittent speed and working for a long time. I quess the contacts heated up or something. So after reading this post about the problematic wiper relay, my car has now one less problem.

Im back!! Good news for me (and everyone else). I had left the map lights on, and as been stated correctly, the lights go off by locking the car, coming back on when the car is next used. So yes, on this occasion, Clever Skoda. If it had not been getting light when parking up at the airport, unpacking suitcases in torrential rain and wind whilst looking for a shuttle bus stop I would probably remembered to switch them off. Thank you to all that replied and commented, I did sleep soundly after this and the Fabia fired up immediately as expected!
  3. @skomaz just yesterday a nice green metallic Offroader was parked next to my MINI and when I got near it was a brand new Ignis but looked bigger than when I last went to try one. I know it is not maybe just more rounded and it was sitting on All Season tyres. I must try one again when it comes to replacing my SX4. @wyx087 the table has the present MINI (F56) with the 140 mile range, the small battery new one with 190 miles MINI Cooper E. & more torque. And then the bigger battery new one with 218 ps, called a Cooper SE. They are J01. The ACEMAN electric is the not yet out in-between size Electric MINI. (J05) and the BIG Countryman is not on there. The ACEMAN might just be the best of the bunch for just an Electric Car of not too big dimensions. You are going to have to be optioning better or more suitable tyres then the standard ones from the factory or fitting different tyres if yo want foul weather performance. Grip. (Pity they do not make that clear.)
  4. Thanks to all who replied. By way if an update, I have fixed the fault! I decided the pop the steering wheel off and take a look, which revealed a broken wire! I soldered it back together and voilà, I now have cruise control!
  5. At last - they've released the long awaited new version. I expect @MartiniB will post the links soon but in the meantime here's a link for the full Europe 2210 v.19 map. Enjoy! : https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/DiscoverMedia2_EU-AS_2210_V19.7z
  6. Well spotted! I bought one two years ago at the discounted price, and have just been badgered to renew it (but at the full price). Now I can buy it at the discounted price again One of the weird things about it is that they send you a paper invoice each month just before activating the DD payment. It seems completely pointless and just increases their admin costs!! Chris
  7. also the Superb (and possibly other Skodas) need the extra door width to accomodate the water bottles that don't fit in the standard cup holders ;o)
  8. For info latest guidance on car park design is for spaces to be 200mm wider and longer - so a standard space would be 5.0m x 2.6m as opposed to 4.8m x 2.4m, with high turnover bays being wider at 2.7m and disabled bays at 3.8m wide as opposed to 3.6m.
  9. Wanted to upcycle the old mat from the Volvo boot. Added some carpet and some contact adhesive. A small strip of stainless steel and a couple of bolts..... Threw it into the boot, went for a spirited drive and this happened. Wanted to protect the (dirty) bumper. Happy with that for no cost.
  10. I would have thought taking the car to a specialist DPF cleaner may be worthwhile? A lot cheaper than the suggested replacement although there may also be a defective component/sensor contributing to the problem A bit of a worry with all the imminent pending tasks it is expected to do though.
  11. I can think of 3 reasons of seized engine: hydrolock, valve/piston collision due to skipped timing chain, or something's stuck due to corrosion. Were you able to turn the engine with plugs out? Valves do open at right crank position?
  12. That says it all having to do an 20 mile run to complete a regen when you only wanted to drive 5 miles! Seems I should be thankful that my vehicle was one of the very last pre-Adblue ones and that I dont need to drive through London or to Heathrow, during the confinement like many people journeys became very short and infrequent, the DPF warning light came on but a couple of kms back and forth on the rocade completed the regen, 20 miles is appalling. A friend yesterday who has had 2 Yetis gave me his unused air, oil and pollen filters, I knew that he sold it because of recurring problems that only occurred on very long runs, driving the family to Spain and Portugal on holiday, they would stop to refuel or eat and it would go into limp mode and have to be towed to a dealer, hotel and car hire for them etc, they loved the Yetis but the last one was a big mistake. I asked him what the problem was and it was with the Adblue system, never anything actually wrong or needing replacing, not sure if the dealers cleared the codes or if it eventually reverted to normal but was the reason they sold the car.
  13. My 2016 2.0TDI SCR DSG Alhambra that could do 60 mpg on runs and no regens to bother about and that started just sipping Adblue would after about 20,000 miles and a year if driven about 5 miles a day in town for 5 days come up with 'Clogged DPF', at first 8 miles of a run put the light you, after about 2 years it got to needing 20 miles before it went out. By 3 year old it was not using hardly any Adblue and clogging lots if used as a town car for a week. The last of the Great Defeat Device VW TDI,s. Amazing long run efficiency. Some poor sod got landed with it after Arnold Clark bought it from Motability via BCA. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/464465-20tdi-150-dpf-warning
  14. I can't comment on CVT but I do find the DSG very smooth. I had a Volvo XC60 as a company car previously, that was incredibly smooth, the electric motor ran seamlessly with the 2 litre engine and felt almost like it never changed gear, unless in sport with the right foot buried! The DSG isn't far behind. Didn't like the DSG/auto handbrake combination when trying to creep slowly into a reversing space, but that's just learning the car. I did have a CVT in the '70s, a 50cc Mobylette. That just screamed and didn't go anywhere, unless downhill!
  15. Not a characteristic. That is Main Dealership speak. Excuses. You should not need to put the transmission in N, you could drive in D and enable 'Coasting Mode' and then the car will be freewheeling to hear it. What DSG, is it a DQ381? 7 speed wet clutch. The Servicing / oil & filter change is not due until 128,000 km. But sadly there are more and more having issues. ? Is there a record of the essential HALDEX Service having been done at 48,000 km?
  16. Here is a picture of mine:
  17. Amusement is not what I would call it. Had a number of conversations with people who are supposed to be technically educated. They still don't get that these "self charging" hybrids are the same as a prius. Or even that when our PHEV runs out of charge it reverts to be a normal hybrid. The marketing train has certainly done what they set out to achieve.
  18. Replace it when the car struggles to start on a few consecutive days.

  21. Hi booked my car in for a brake fluid change at my local dealer and asked the question. "Do you bleed the clutch as well seeing as they share the same fluid" they said "No we dont bleed the clutch as part of a fluid change". I found that strange would the old fluid in the clutch not contaminate the new fluid they have just replaced or have I got it all wrong just seems odd not to remove ALL old brake fluid 🤔
  22. My Jag, which is a pretty wide car, or so I thought, is 'only' 2042mm inc mirrors. It's not as wide as a Mini !!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I was going by your figures and forgot that I had corrected them, my lack of short term memory again
  24. Continuously variable transmission https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_variable_transmission Hope this helps
  25. Obdeleven can’t upload datasets so it’s not possible with that. only 2 software that allow dataset uploads is VCP and ODIS. (Never used obd11 so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
  26. Well done. Interesting how it caused other problems! Your electric windows are not really affected by any other modules. Driver's side and passenger side motors are data connected to each other, but nothing else. Unlike the earlier pre-facelift version which are CAN connected. Message me for more help.
  27. Right I'll start from the Very Strat mate long story as my old man is clueless.... he said it would not unlock of the key fob unlock? ONLY on HOLD DOWN BOOT Button so he was told by someone it was the BOOT LATCH anyway the latch was changed and lasted for about 6 times then STOPPED. NOW he has bought a switch that has told me it does not work NOW i know why it's of a ****ing MK2 which is half the size of the MK3 any cut. along story short it is the SWITCH that is knackered so you where right all a long. I have had nothing to do with any of it all I have done is contact people on the forums....
  28. Eh? Door mounted speakers and electric window motors aren't something new you know? (Dad's MkV Cortina Ghia had them for e.g.) SIPS bars may increase the width of doors but all that means is that larger speakers can be fitted in the door as a convenient plus of mandatory SIPS. Electric windows and door mounted speakers aren't required by law they're just a benefit of wider doors.
  29. I have an SEL First Edition, so early in the production run, and find version 1941 snappy and responsive.
  30. Yes, I did take it to a specialist DPF cleaner before I took it to Skoda, but when diagnosing that it was the DPF, the figures suggested that the DPF wasn't blocked and sensors were working. Therefore they didn't feel it was necessary to clean the DPF.
  31. Tesla have opened yet another hub to all cars, in Bristol this time. Thats 38 open to all, 39 when Thetford reopens after being upgraded. They are now a serious player in the open to all EV charging business.
  32. To be fair that's what's known as 'parking' in France.
  33. I installed new amplifier REBEC R6S and DLS CRPP-2.6 speaker set. Sound quality is from another planet after installing these. Also front doors were soundproofed with butyl mat and "foamy mat". Tweeters were the last part of this project. Now I started to google 10" woofer and amplifier to spare tire holder in trunk. I think that this project is taking next step really soon. I think that I am having midlife crisis of some sort because I am tuning car sound system. Or maybe I just like to make my life quality a bit better because my work involves loads of driving. Anyway I am really happy with the results.
  34. I'd take it to a trusted independent diesel specialist for them to have a look, not a main dealer. I've owned many dpf equipment cars within the past without any dpf related issues, continuous short journeys cause many dpf system related issues. I now drive a petrol car as I don't cover as much mileage now or take frequent long trips.
  35. Apologies, I assumed it might be taken that on a Briskoda Skoda Superb forum thread about Skoda Superb iV mpg (and therefore costs), that when I mentioned 'EV public charging' I was talking about the 'public charging' of EVs (in this case PHEVs) - I am really not interested in what Tesla charge.
  36. I think you must have a problem or you go over speed bumps really slow, I don't such issues with my DSG at all.
  37. i don't have a tow bar either, so my bikes go on the bicycle rack on the roof bar.
  38. Depends what it is... Suzuki swift sport hybrid 1025kg Non Sport version 975kg

  40. Yes but they'll have slightly different parts numbers for Skoda/VW/seat etc
  41. Well, it would be, wouldn't it? I mean the lock nut has to be unlocked in order to adjust the trackrod length,
  42. I'm with both "R" and "R. Fantastic car all round, mines still within the family and going strong. I bought my Scout new in 2008, I passed it on to a family member in 2019 when I was offered only £1750 as a trade in on another car, I said I'd rather give it away than take that, It was such a good car. And that's what I did. Hope you enjoy your new car.
  43. Looking stunning after the wash mate, really smart
  44. Unless there are around 180 build codes in the service schedule, it won't include all the build codes. There's an ebay seller who can supply all the build codes for about 3 Euros (about £2.50). Search "skoda vin decoder" on ebay to find the listing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224631127243
  45. I serviced my wife's Citigo today, very satisfying because the dealers wanted £300 and it ended u costing around £65.00 in total. I did a mechanical apprenticeship many years ago but I'm a bit ring rusty working on cars, having had other priorities until very recently. I'm not used to working on modern cars so did a bit of research and asked a few questions on this forum, a couple of which were answered. I used Mann filters, having got the codes from the Mann Europe catalogue, as they seem to be well regarded. They looked identical to the VW filters I removed. The pollen filter was black through, the air filter looked pretty good, but all were replaced. The oil change and filters were easy, although for a few seconds I thought the oil filter was going to fight to the death before being removed. A chain wrench and a ring spanner for leverage got it moving. This was a relief because I've used the screwdriver and hammer method of removal before, but it creates some wicked sharp edges. My biggest worry was the spark plugs, and if I'm right the replacement intervals are 4 years. This is a 2017 car so I expected problems, based on the experiences of some others on this forum. However, they came out very easily. The coil packs came out by hand, no need for even tie wraps. There were traces of grease on the ceramic part of the plugs so that clearly works wonders for ease of removal. The plugs themselves were in a bit of a state and definitely ready for changing. The spark plugs are quite deep and I did not have a magnetic 16mm plug socket, but I do have a magnetic rod with a light on the end, bought for a couple of pounds from Ebay, which I think is even better, for removal and replacement of the plugs. the magnetic tip is just strong enough to allow the plugs to be tightened a few threads with the lightest of touch, which is necessary to avoid stripping the threads. If anyone is reluctant to service their cars because of the issues some people have had, i would say go for it. A charge of £300 for what I did today is ridiculous. ( I do have an inspection pit, which made a big difference , especially with changing the oil filter though. If you do your own, I would recommend some latex gloves, because used engine oil is a known carcinogen.
  46. A safe way of putting in new plugs and reducing the chance of cross threading is a length of rubber pipe / hose. You just push onto the plug and start off the plug this way.
