  1. Waddington (Saturday afternoon)....
  2. Good morning all, it’s been a while since I posted, few family issues put car on back burner. so after a cleaning and testing all inputs and fuses, it actually turned out to be a poor connection in the fuse box. The fuse felt plugged in but it was moving slightly, I think that’s why sometimes it worked and sometimes not.
  3. Yesterday i finished fantastic 3615 km round trip across Sweden and Norway Thanks to the default speed limit 80 km/h, got numbers which i haven't ever seen before - top score on the display were 6.5 l/100km. Calculation for whole trip is 7.8 (36mpg) by filled 98/95 vs kms Keeping to the speed limit didn't save me from being stopped by an unmarked traffic police car, Škoda Superb wagon followed me about 15 kms - they didn't like the maneuver of overtaking a nearly stationary car as driving in the opposite direction Enyaq was still ~500 meters away, i overtook without using the accelerator pedal and returned to my line No fine just papers/trunk check and talking about driving safety (first hour in Norway) . . . . . .
  4. My 2016 280 gets to water temp pretty quick (5mins sound right) but at that point, the oil isn't even showing anything, i.e. below 50degC. I'd want the oil to be up to temps before racing anyone off the lights!
  5. My car's engine seems to be loosening-up nicely. I think a 60MPG run might actually be possible, given I had a bit of a blast on a section of road on this journey, which spoilt my otherwise economic driving. (aided by a fair few sections with a 50MPH speed limit.)

If your petrol filter is blocked, then either you are allowing contamination into the tank, someone has dropped something in on purpose or using very poor quality fuel.... Ive taken so many fuel tanks and filters of of new and old petrol cars and never had any excessive contamination that wasnt caused by outside influence. Low fuel rail pressure can be caused by the low pressure pump or high pressure pump - have either of their outputs been checked for what kind of flow rate/pressure?
  7. One thing to note is it's the oil temp you want to warm up rather than the coolant. Might get to 90 on the coolant but oil temps could still be low.

Hi, I've done quite a bit of sound deadening on my Superb, and have gone through the really useful tips on this thread. I used a precut kit from https://www.nkgroup.co.uk/ (no affiliation) which allowed me to install footwells and sides of the transmission tunnel by simply removing the plastic sill covers on each side of the car. Has anyone tried the chassis dampers from other manufacturers? Also, does anyone know the part codes for the acoustic side window glass? Images of my work attached
  9. So finally took it for its first spin outside in a long time. It runs, and drives. Had an issue where it died, not sure if it's the battery that was in it (very possible) or a charging issue. Well used to this from it's original incarnation. Put a bigger battery in it and seemed fine. Issue with the power brakes, seem to want to suck down and hold the brakes occasionally. Brakes work fine thankfully, clutch is very low but works fine. Just different to what I'm used to. Would say finishing stretch but not quite yet. Certain other projects detracting from this as usual. But we're getting there.
  10. Just offering another viewpoint, hope you find a satisfactory answer. Most forums do tend to prompt discussions though.
  11. Have you tried "not switching it on"?
  12. I assume if it's android unit you have access to Google play and install any app right? Then install "Twilight" app or "Blue Light Filter" you have to give full permissions so it can take over you're display...you there change the brightness...set it to always night mode, and it will dimm it down. Have you also installed front/backup cameras for you're car?
  13. Yes they will both probably be inaccurate by similar amounts. 😁
  14. I will use a combination or IR gun and IR camera photos. Both can not go so wrong.
  15. Finally managed to use the wood batten from my old summer house as a test to use in front of my Halfords ramps, it was successful but sketchy in an auto even with auto hold off Without the wood the front bumper would touch the ramp, now it’s all good I can finally start my own oil changes, some other day…
  16. ACC. She hates the fact that the car has control and she doesn't, have managed to turn off some of parameters but the one that gets her the most and I've driven the thing myself is sitting at a steady 120km/h and a vehicle passes and pulls into my lane after completing the manoeuvre as is normal and this damn thing slows down even though the vehicle that's passed me is still pulling away. I hate it as much as she does!
  17. That's very impressive indeed 👍 Over 35k miles, my Golf (EA888G3 230 with DQ250) averages about 34mpg. We saw 66mpg over a ten mile stint in Switzerland, but that was once, and then the same coming downhill out of the Dolomites into Italy. Neither to be seen again, and not a chance around my neck of the woods. Gaz
  18. I ended up using a pair of normal pliers. Despite having loads of tools for plumbing and leccy work in the UK I could not find a pair of pliers on the first day I was doing this work. I was using needle nose and could not get enough force without causing too much pain in the fingers and palm... Off to screwfix and the job was done in a few minutes. but then, when I came to replace the rear shoes a few days later, there was one spring that was just a b***er. not sure whether the teeth on the pliers had gone, I was knackered or whatever. But it kept slipping off and I ended up losing the nice shiny cap in to the ninth dimension as it sprung back, missed my bulk and zoomed off in to some brambles. Thankfully I still had the old caps from before I replaced the springs. If I do this job again I will definitely buy a spring puller and a the spring washer tool.
  19. Octopus Go users remember to reprogram ones car to take advantage of the hour of super cheap extra charging. It's like the good news of the clocks changing but in this case never going back. Hopefully a permanent change ie 5 hours cheap per day rather than 4. Additional advantage of those devices like the fridge freezer that are on all the time effectively being a few percent cheaper to run for this alone, even when prices go back up in October. Should have credit with Octopus after 3 months of much lower prices despite only paying £125 a month for lecky and gas for a biggish house and charging an EV. Happy days.
  20. I don't mean a scanner, a scanner is not the only diagnostics tool available and most time not the first diagnostics tool you should use, I meant the "smart" phone (they're not) App(?) that gives thermal imagining and temperatures could be used as a diagnostic tool sometimes, I'm sure there will be some videos of some Americans using this to demonstrate what I mean. I'll wait for winter results, see if 3:47 remains or returns or it extends.
  21. You're probably right. I had a very stiffly sprung Volvo V60 diesel hybrid for a couple of years and that was very susceptible to tyre pressures and weight. It rode better with 4 people in it. However, the ride on poor surfaces spoiled the car and after much research, I ended up gambling and buying some (never heard of before!) Debica Presto tyres made by Goodyear, rather than my usual Michelin Cross Climates. It rode "20%" better. Softer sidewalls made a difference.

Welcome to briskoda. I’m sorry but I can’t hear anything over the wind roar..
  23. Seats out and no people in just your household stuff likely would count as lightly loaded so that would be where you would not up the tyre pressures up near the ECO / high weight / load pressure.
  24. Jan 18. 58,000 miles. We replaced the suspension at 96k on our last one. It's definitely a tyre thing.
  25. Before you buy any tie rods slide the gaiter off and shake the wheel at 3 and 6 o clock, you should see the ball and socket joint jump about. It could be the bush in the rack worn instead. You will see the rack move about if it's that.
  26. I just push the pin hard with my finger and put the clip on with a pair of combination pliers. If you can't push down hard enough, put a 5p in the finger of a pair or gardening gloves and push with that.
  27. Your friend is a tool. I think!mi got mine from either Eurocar parts or car parts 4 less. I can't find it, but its a screwdriver like tool, that you apply to clip on shoes ,whilst holding rear of pin. The end holds the disc and rotates it Try a search for brake spring washer tool. I find it easier to deal with cable attachmeñt after shoes are off and before fitting. Don't forget that its easier to replace both cables and allow for constant adjustment ever after.
  28. All sorted it's alive
  29. Mine was like that, changed it a week ago under warranty. Probably moisture from washing.
  30. Unfortunately it looks like moisture has gotten behind the lens
  31. With a 1.2 TSI with a so low annual miles i would be changing the Oil & Filter annually , at 9,400 miles or less. It is more about the length of cold start journeys though and is the engine getting up to heat on the trips. That would be using the VW502 00, Fully Synthetic and not the Long Life VW504 00 oil. The Air Filter needs replacing when you think it is dirty. The Pollen Filter as well, and with a vacuuming, cleaning / washing / sanitising of the area.
  32. I'd be AMAZED if the inner joints really are worn, it's one of those 'gimme' jobs that most owners can't check. You certainly don't need a new rack! FYI my Fabia is 24 years old and is still on the original inner joints, I changed everything else when I bought it in 2016.
  33. It seems that there are several variations of viscosity for the 1.2 TSI - use your engine code (3 or 4 letters in front of engine number on your V5) to find the correct one. I would not recommend replacing your engine air filter with a washable one - just use the recommended type to replace.
  34. If you PM me the Registration Number I will check if anything is on ERWIN for you. Thanks. AG Falco
  35. Tonight's leader debate: not one word from Sunak or Starmer about whether they prefer rubber or carpet mats in their car. Clearly, the BBC cruelly ripped up the question I submitted. But you can vote on this important issue - link below;
  36. 2019 272 Sportline. Quartz Grey metallic (which I love). No extras as far as I’m aware, but spec is plenty good enough for me. Reckon it must be one of the last pre facelifts registered as it was reg on 30th September 2019.
  37. Yes seems to be a low pressure prime then high pressure when ignition turned on
  38. Not today, but we've been away with the Superb for 22 nights on a road trip to Lithuania. We went out on the Stena ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland, then went east past Hanover, Berlin, Poznan, Warsaw, Bialystok, Kaunas and finally to Klaipėda for 11 nights, where we rented an apartment. We went on to the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, for 3 nights and returned past Alytus, Bialystok, Warsaw, Dresden, Cologne and spent the last night in Calais before taking the ferry to Dover. The car didn't miss a beat and it all went very smoothly. The only additional expense was a parking fine in Klaipėda received when we were visiting father-in-law and the car was parked here. https://maps.app.goo.gl/noCLZsM84cPucmkJA I noticed parking ticket machines in another road, but I didn't see any signs that you need to buy a ticket if you park here. SWMBO's brother lives nearby and has parked there many times and he's never had a ticket and he didn't know you needed to pay. The ticket was a flimsy printed paper that would have been washed away if it hadn't been dry as the weather was hot with a few very heavy thunderstorms. I showed the ticket to my brother-in-law and he paid it for me. I probably would have got away with not paying it, being in a UK registered car, but the ticket was only €1.50, so it was hardly worth taking the risk. It's strange that it was so little as I should have paid €1.50 for a ticket, so there doesn't seem much point in buying one if you stand a chance of not getting caught! The record of our road trip. We're taking a break at the motorway services at Kaunas in Lithuania. The car had to endure some rough roads on our trip. We are leaving Lithuania and entering Poland, where the Polish road ahead is excellent but the Lithuanian road is a rough surface where they're carrying out improvements.
  39. Try get in, turn ignition on, check dash lights and warnings as you put your seat belt on, then after checks and belt(s) on start the engine, and check for warning lights with engine running and any sounds or smells (hopefully not tastes) before driving off, none of this takes long and you might hear the sounds, particularly all those from under the bonnet as the computer programs do their stuff. My wife's 1.2 TSI (90) engine makes all sorts of different noises at different times and circumstances, I've learnt to ignore them otherwise I get annoyed as I've always found the VW petrol 4 pots to sound badger's arse (and I'm used to BMC/BL cars) of course the VW 3-pots sound 25% (or is it 33.3%) worse, but I admit I'm biased as I've never particularly like VW products (Mk1 Golf GTi excepted) or fallen for the German engineering quality line, well this century/millennium at least. We all know the VW engineers fiddle things around to suit marketing and regulatory needs and this can put compromises on the compromises and mistakes already there. And you know it's the loose nut behind the steering wheel that contributes a lot to mpg or lack of it, as well as other issues on the car . 😁 If you can improve things (overall), great I'm sure others will want to know, good luck.
  40. Simpsons Skoda, No longer a main Skoda dealer. Just an Authorised repairer Original Owners have sold the business to Desira Group
  41. I ve just done my Octavia tdi 2016, the rear carrier didn't need to be removed, the disk, with a bit of a wiggle can slide under, initially though, it appeared as if they would not.... there are two types of disk depth and mine was the taller of the two, so should be harder. However, where i did become unstuck was the fronts, slotted in the new pads with disks and after about 500 miles, got horrendous brake noise, eventually i found the pads are directional and have a crescent shape cut out of the anti squeal shim and this needs fitting on the leading edge as it contacts the disk, i had fitted them on the trailing edge.....
  42. Just completed a very straightforward transaction with varaderoguy Highly recommended👍
