Its been reported, its a second identity created by someone that was displaying very weird behaviour on a thread about decreased fuel economy, it has been deleted (I made no complaint) so I guess he went even further. Then I got a very abusive PM with a photograph of a gravestone from the new identity, that was reported as well. To the moderators I apologise that you should have to be dealing with stuff like this, you are certainly appreciated.

  7. I agree but logic as well. All safety-critical systems on a car these days are monitored by their particular controller ECU so if a fuse blows or an electrical fault occurs it will be noticed and recorded. You could spend a lot of time confirming all the different signals like road speed, steering angle, engine speed, reference voltages, data communications with other controllers (like ABS) and you would need a correct wiring diagram to do this. I'm not saying you shouldn't check fuses but a quick check with VCDS first is probably actually quicker and more valuable than finding and testing all the fuses in the various fuse boxes because the fuse designations vary enough to make the handbook versions unreliable.

I have the original version of Carista dongle, mostly used to monitor status of the DPF using VAG DPF software as it's the cheapest approved hardware for that app. But recently renewed subs for £10 for 1 month to code in third new battery on my FL 4x4 CR170 estate and also new battery my better Half's BMW series 2. Bear in mind that on Superb it can only change the battery serial number, not battery type or capacity which VCDS can. That's fine as long as you are replacing like for like as incrementing the serial number is enough to tell the car the battery is new and to charge it accordingly. But no good if you are swapping EFB / AGM or different Ah rating.

  12. I didn’t but I have a facelift so it’s a different software and slightly different process (using USB stick instead of SD card). I’m fairly sure the software wouldn’t be released, or would have been patched or updated. I don’t know when it was released though.

Details are https://mib-helper.com/index.php?train=MHI2_ER_SKG13_P4526 here you'll see the download link It'll take you to https://mibsolution.one/ where the login details are "guest" and "guest"; and if you go through the file-tree you should get to https://mibsolution.one/#/1/9/MHI2 - HARMAN/Firmware/Skoda I think (Harman is the vendor) which should have the software to download there. How-to should be: Copy/unzip/extract onto an SD card in the root folder. Then with the card plugged into the car (in the glovebox), go to the settings -> software version screen and press the update software button at the bottom of the screen. The MIB will reboot into Engineering Mode were everything is red font and you need to press options with a circle next to them. Usually a double tap. Let it do its thing. At one point it might randomly ask to resume at the bottom of the screen, just go ahead. When done it'll reboot back into normal mode.

  18. Apologies for revealing my basic ignorance/foolishness (particularly as you have been engaging with a Skoda dealer), but.... Perhaps you have a different manual to the one I have, but I'm confused by you mentioning Page 71. (Note I have the Columbus, not the Bolero, but both are included in the manual I have.) The section on the operation of driving mode selection starts on page 131 in my manual... ...which makes me wonder** if there are two different functions at play here, one for simply setting Eco, Normal, Sport, etc. (accessed through a function on the screen menu) and one that does that and allows one to switch between E-mode and Hybrid (accessed by using the Mode button) and gives access to the "auto" function with the latter. ** - Sorry, but I can't be bothered to get in my car and find out for myself and, besides, I'm hopeless when it comes to navigating decision trees, except for a knack of ending up where I don't want to be.
  19. With the connector unplugged from BCM, measure resistance to earth from the pin 16 wire. It should be quite a small resistance, because all three indicator bulbs on the left side are in parallel from it to earth, and the front and rear bulbs are 21 Watt, so their cold resistance will be a very small number. If you measure a high resistance instead, it could suggest a wire breakage/damage/corrosion from pin 16 towards the bulbs (black/white) wire.
  20. Is the car set to air recirculation mode? What helps, is if you meticulously clean the inside of the windscreen. Then it is fresh air ventilation when moving.   21. It began with a tyre pressure warning, but when I checked them all tyres were spot on. The a crop of other warnings on my Fabia: ABS, Front Assist, Skid Control etc etc. The front and rear parking sensors were no longer working, but apart from that the car drove normally (though carefully!). The local garage found one faulty wheel speed sensor in a front wheel. That one fault discombobulated the system and resulted in lots and lots of entirely spurious fault warnings. I consider it a design fault if the failture of one specific sensor can trigger a crop of irrelevant fault warnings in the whole software.

  23. The wiring info for electromechanical power steering from July 2018 onwards shows only one fuse, an 80 Amp under-bonnet one - SA3. If that had failed you would have zero steering assistance.
  24. Skoda UK seems to offer Nextbase models mostly. Skoda NL doesn't. Would have been nice to have a bit more 'oem look' unit.
  25. The whole concept has always shouted danger to me. Your engine going from OFF, to ON and instant acceleration is the worst way to set off. We would never do it to cars pre-AutoStart. 🤷‍♂️ Just my thoughts of course!

    Bypass the cooler so that no coolant runs through it; see if coolant loss ceases. Can't offer detailed practical guidance on how to do it, but it probably involves a little plumbing ingenuity.
  27. 238-306 etc etc is for the MIB3 units. 1382, 1440 etc etc is for MIB2, MIB2.5 units. Firmware updates cannot be done via the online update portal. Search this forum - there r a few discussions which provide instructions on how to update the MIB2/2.5 firmware.
  28. It's one of the the largest vehicle testing (MOT) organisations in the world, offering MOT services in many countries. I found the example of the Munich Jaguar i-Pace taxis quite interesting - the article suggests that charging them to 100% every day has not been harmful but may even have contributed to their batteries being in good health at around 95-97% capacity after 180k-260k kms. This goes against some of the received wisdom in the thread above.

I dont really understand a lot of what you were trying to say but you will struggle to turn the engine in the way that you describe because even in direct top gear you the torque you are applying is reduced by the final drive ratio, somewhere in the order of one third, in the lower gears as little as one tenth. Be very carefull about turning the TSi engine in a reverse direction as this can cause the timing chain to jump on start up and wreck the engine, dont be tempted to turn the engine back if you have gone too far and dont try your wheel trick in reverse gear. You would have more success pushing the car forwards in top gear, you still have the torque reduction but can apply more force pushing from a standing position that rotating your arms, also you can bump the car to use the inertia. The easiest thing would be to remove the spark plugs.
  30. If it was my money I would certainly delay it until you are sure the software is fixed (by checking here). Not sure of your circumstances such as signing up for finance or putting a bit deposit down already, but if you can do cleanly, I would back out and advise the dealer that once you are confident in the product you may well speak to them first to 're order.
  31. Have you checked in the car staus in your MIB unit? This will tell you why the stop start is disabled.
  32. Handbrake cable unless it has snapped is likely to be a problem with the self adjusting mechanism on one of the rear brake calipers. Have a look at the compensator bracket where the two cables have their adjustment, I bet its over at an angle.

And the indicator repeater just means the plain old 'indicator' in the wing mirror? When you used the word spludger I thought it was going to be some slang I didn't know, but lo and behold, a quick search later there they are. You learn something new every day. Thanks

  36. You and I survived, but quite a lot of people didn't. The aim of the various driver assistance devices is to increase the number of people surviving in the future. I have an aviation background and when aircraft automation first came in, the old and bold pilots resented it. Especially in an emergency situation, they wanted to be the big important hero guy manhandling the flight controls. They resented some computer doing it for them. But history has shown that they crashed quite a lot, whereas after the introduction and acceptance of aircraft automation, accident rates were substantially reduced. Of course competent use of the automation requires training, and that is probably where the problem arises with automation in cars - there is no training on how to monitor the automation, or even how it works or more importanly how it behaves. For example I suspect a lot of people don't realise that whilst if you have ACC engaged and the car in front slow down, your car will brake as necessary (up to a maximum braking limit), whereas if you come round a corner and encounter stationary cars ahead, it won't brake and will plough straight into them. This is the sort of thing that ought at the very least to be highlighted in the manuals - but even then, lots of people don't read the manuals! So really, there should be mandatory training on how a car's driver-assistance systems behave, just as there is for aircraft. Never going to happen, I know!

  39. Parking sensors are only active below a certain speed, so with a faulty ABS sensor they don't get accurate/correct speed information so they are also disabled. Basically any system that needs speed information is disabled when an ABS sensor is faulty.
  40. Quick message to say thanks to this thread I got the mib1 standard working on my golf. Changed tmc from default 3 to 14 over the weekend. Initially thought it hadn't work, but 36 hours later by Monday morning, traffic reports coming in. Be patient if reports don't show instantly!
  41. I've had it a couple of weeks now so I'll give you my impressions. Firstly, the unit. I went for an expensive one as I love gadgets (I'm in IT) and plan on keeping my car until it is uneconomical to repair (first car I've ever loved owning!). I got the IQ90MTVL model (£429.99) but any model with at least 2 GB RAM will be fine. 4GB will be better. I also got the tire pressure monitoring (£63.99) , the ODB dongle (£10.99) and the DAB radio dongle (£49.99). I wouldn't buy the TPMS or the DAB from Xtrons again as they are over priced. Any USB TPMS or DAB dongle will work with this unit. I wish I'd known this before purchase! Fitting. This was very straight forward as the Xtrons unit is made for the Skoda so fits neatly in to the hole the old system left. Access to remove the old system is extremely easy as you just need to use a trim tool to pull off the rectangle of black plastic which surrounds the unit and then there are 4 torx screws (T15) to remove. One thing to be aware of is if you disconnect the passenger airbag sensor which is connected to the black plastic rectangle, you will trigger a warning on the ECU and you'll need to clear it with an ODB reader. I left it connected and just rotated the plastic out of the way when I fitted the new unit (be careful not to scratch the new unit on it!). I also left the battery connected throughout. The wiring harness was simple as the new unit came with a quad lock connector that snaps directly in to the car loom. This provides power and connects the car speakers to the head unit. It does not connect AM/FM, DAB,MIC or GPS. The new unit came with its own aerials for DAB and GPS. Put the DAB one in the bin, it's useless. The GPS unit works but you want it to see the sky wherever you decide to place it so it does end up cluttering the dashboard. I bought a Fakra to SMA connector from Amazon to connect the car's built in GPS aerial to the head unit for £7.99. I bough a dual fakra to DIN cable to connect the car aerials for AM and FM, again, £7.99. I also bought a magnetic stick on DAB aerial which works well but does result in some ugly wiring. My car doesn't have a built in DAB aerial so this will have to do as no way am I messing with the headlining to put a proper aerial in. DAB aerial was £13.99. The new unit. Nice, clean looking, large screen. I installed the Agama car launcher (£2.49 I think) after playing with a couple of other options and I find that Agama suits my needs very well. The unit itself seems well made, solid components and many many connection options. It has a DSP audio chip built in and sounds much better than the old RNS510 did. I love having the entire Android ecosystem available to customize the capabilities of the car. I am using Torque combined with the dongle I bought for real time engine information, the TPMS alarms audibly if it detects an issue. I have Igo, Sygic, Waze, TomTom, Memory map and Google maps for navigation which covers me for online and offline navigating, all with decent real time traffic monitoring. Poweramp for music, plex for parked up entertainment. The unit is snappy and fast. I added a 128GB SD card to its "GPS" slot but this is just treated as extra storage labelled GPS. I put my 90GB of music on it and it plays fine. The new unit is better than the RNS510 in every measurable way. The startup time is sub 30 seconds from cold, noticeably faster then the RNS510. Sub two seconds from "warm". The screen is clearer and brighter, the sound, especially the bass, is much improved too. Steering wheel integration has been fully retained and additionally is now programmable if you want to add more controls. You also retain things like the climate control settings appearing on the head unit when you make changes as well as reversing tones and display for reversing sensors (I don't have a camera but am thinking about adding one). The unit also allows you to add Skoda branding to it and match it's colours to your car's interior or any other colour you like. You can make it look very factory fitted as it has no branding on the front. The bad news. Maxidot integration is affected. You no longer have music titles being reported and the sat nav no longer integrates. So far I have been unsuccessful in integrating the car's Phone hands free functions with the maxidot. The maxidot will still control the phone and allow you to make calls etc but it doesn't route the audio through the head unit, just the phone. This may be fixable as I learn more but I hardly ever use the phone in the car so it's low priority for me. This may be a deal breaker for some but I normally have my maxidot on consumption anyway so this doesn't really bother me. The other big downside that I can see is that this unit really benefits from being online. You can download apps and maps and music and keep it all local but this unit shines most when it's able to get live traffic updates, stream spotify and other online activities. This means you'll want to either be getting your phone to enable its wifi hotspot each time the bluetooth connects to the head unit automatically (it's a pain to remember to turn it on and off each time you get in and out of the car) or you'll want a 4G version/dongle and a SIM to get the most out of it. Overall, I wish I'd made the change sooner. The new unit makes the car feel like a brand new modern day luxury vehicle. It can provide a wifi hotspot for passengers, good bluetooth built in, can handle up to four storage devices (3 x USB and 1 x SD) up 10 128GB each and is blisteringly quick compared to the RNS510. Multiple choices of navigation/music/movie/game software that simply isn't available to the RNS. Easy to update as well as maintain and based on an operating many people are already familiar with from their phone. I'd never replace the RNS510 with another RNS510, it'll be one of these units from now on. If you have any other questions, I'm happy to answer while it's all still fresh in my memory.
