  1. Thanks everyone..your input has been extremely valuable 😁 happy to report I managed to speak to the sales manager who apologised for the lack of communication. He confirmed we should have received an electronic copy of the new car order form and it sometimes goes to junk but it isn't in my husband's junk...anyway the results of the conversation is that he will refund us the deposit and no mention whatsoever of the £1500 which the sales advisor emailed about. Thanks again for all your replies and advice.
  2. My eyes, my eyes!! Not to my taste I'm afraid 🤮 As a slight aside (but far more interesting IMO) and for respite, I've been watching this chap put a PD130 in a Capri (a real one): Gaz
  3. I do 375 miles to Milton Keynes with ease. The last decent run I did was Kidderminster to Livingston, 297 miles without the need to charge. I stopped 3 times but that was to pee / eat dinner. Next month I need to drive Livingston to Stafford, then on to Farnham, then back to Stafford and back to Livingston. The car reckons it needs a 5 minute stop to reach stafford but I know that if we leave at 5pm then by the time we get to Carlisle around 7pm I will be ready for some food. If my bladder can stretch to Tebay I will because the food is better. To be honest the breaks I take are the same in a diesel as in an EV. The diesel needs extra stops though as we need to refill and it doesn't do that while we're eating.
  4. I subscribe to Care Connect and Infotainment Online each year...... If you keep looking on the app you'll see these go on sale every so often so you can get them for a reduced price each time rather than full price. You also don't need to be close to renewal time either as they just add the new 12 months on to the end of your current subscription. This year I paid something like £45 in total for them both. I was under the impression though that things like the road sign recognition thing (I don't have this available to purchase as mine is a January '22 car) were one off payments not annual subscriptions..... I know the lighting purchase is a one-off as I have bought it myself. I know we complain about the cost of these and that they're not worth it but something people might not be aware of though is how cheap we actually get these things compared to the other VAG marques...... A work colleague has an RS6 and has the Audi version of our Skoda App on his iPhone. We compared them both and they give pretty much the same info but just laid out in a slightly different way. He liked the idea of the Infotainment Online that I had so purchased the Audi equivalent so that he too got constantly updated maps, traffic updates, set destination on phone and send to car, etc........ and it cost him just over £100 for the year!!!!!!!! I had just paid £30 for my Infotainment Online (which does all the same things) a couple of weeks previously whilst it was on sale. 😁

When you compare it to the pattern of a fresh P7, you can see the shoulder tread has been scrubbed away all around the tyre. I'd go with it's either been run flat for an extended period, or there's a serious geometry issue.

Bjorn took a while to recognise the V2L connector in the boot of the R5.
  7. Gridserve have added 3 new chargers at Killington Lake services. 6x290kW plugs. The old units are retained to cater for Chademo charging. Good place to stop to walk the dog and a lot less busy than Tebay.
  8. @elah1940 @Alasdair1 @Warrior193 - As upthread, I think this "contract" isn't worth the paper it's written on.

AFAIK that was the case for the 2.0 TSI engines, in the early years of the pre-facelft mk4 Octavia. As for the facelift model with the "revised" version of the 1.5 TSI model, all pictures/videos I saw were showing there's no more engine cover. It's just a small plastic around the oil plug - as in the picture below. Can you post a picture of your engine bay?
  10. Snap - Mrs Gaz has a '65 plate Polo GTI 😁 Odd that it arrives when warm (as oppose to the opposite). Thinning oil allowing something to move more than it's supposed to maybe? Can you describe it more, or get it on video? Does it increase with engine revs? Can you hear it when stationary at tickover or only when driving? Light and tappity or dull and clonky sound? Oil and fluid levels all okay? Has it been scanned for any fault codes which might assist diagnosis? I'm with you in terms of getting it checked out in advance of it getting worse or more costly. Fair play to your local garage for knowing their limits and suggesting going to one that's more VW focussed. Gaz
  11. Found this on GOV website. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cancelling-goods-or-services-guide-for-consumers/cancelling-goods-or-services Heres an etract. Businesses can keep your deposit or advance payments, or ask you to pay a cancellation charge, only in certain circumstances If you cancel the contract, the business is generally only entitled to keep or receive an amount sufficient to cover their actual losses that directly result from your cancellation (eg costs already incurred or loss of profit). Businesses must take reasonable steps to reduce their losses (eg by re-selling the goods or services). Non-refundable deposits should only be a small percentage of the total price. Cancellation charges must be a genuine estimate of the business’ direct loss. Worth a quick read and perhaps a call/visit to citizens advice. If its done online then 14 day cooling off option. If its done at the dealers then you get none. Reckon they should have given you or emailed a copy of the contract. You could also try https://www.themotorombudsman.org/ to see if there is anything they can do. Alasdair
  12. . "On second day of ownership several warning lights appeared. Contacted dealer who wanted the car returned. Having read this thread I decided to wait and see if it cleared. After a short run and a restart it was all back to normal. I have seen the odd "front collision" symbol at start up but it soon goes - frosty morning...perhaps. " . . By the way, if there's frost on the car, you need to clean two areas to avoid warnings: Completely clear the glass section in front of the camera at the top of the windshield. AND the most important, clean the opening of the camera on the radar box in the center of the grille. If both are cleaned, there will be no warnings on a frosty morning.

The more i see the more i like. Flimsy (light) is ok with me as long as practical and does not break.
  15. As @Ootohere suggests, a FMDSH doesn't mean it has received the correct maintenance. In this case I think some stuff has been ticked off and not actually done. Not necessarily a lemon but definitely a dealer to avoid.
  16. I pay up for the subscriptions to Care Connect (driving data, alarm notifications, parking position, etc) and Infotainment Online (online voice control, map & traffic updates, etc). Whether they are considered value for money or not is an individual thing; for me, they are.
  17. Different car altogether but I drive in Sport Individual mode all the time now.......... The car used to be in Standard mode and I have seen no noticeable difference in MPG. There is quite a difference in how the car responds / behaves though, with better engine braking and sensible throttle response. It behaves like a 'Normal' car now, it actually 'Goes' when I press the 'Go' pedal, Lol.
  18. Had to sit a while in the main dealer service reception - something I’ve done a few times over the last 6 years - and had to smile whilst eavesdropping on the conversations when collecting / paying. Nothing has changed over the years, almost everyone gets the same alert on their free safety check - ‘we’ve noticed your battery charge is poor, battery is in good condition so it could be too many short journeys, have you got a battery charger? If not we can do the job for (currently) £40’. As expected, when it came to my turn, I got the same spiel when I came to pay. I’m thinking either ŠKODA are using poor quality batteries else the charging systems are too cautious. Is it just my dealer or does anyone else hear the same thing?
  19. Corrected. Sorry for my bad language.
  20. A friend was at the NEC car show in 2002 and took these. A virtual cream bun for anyone who recalls which film the XK featured in. I understand Aston Martin also created a chrome plated car but were warned not to use it on the road as reflections might blind other road users!
  21. Hi. If you have any issues with insurance for a hardwired dash cam then please feel free to drop me a line. A number of our insurance schemes offer premium discounts for the fitment of an HD dash cam. Regards, Dan.

You have not said if your starter motor has failed and in which manner I will assume that it has or is it that your mechanic is recommending its replacement because "at 150k the starter motor are known to get ‘tired" could you please confirm. If the starter is no longer turning the engine over the most obvious cause is its removal and refitting during the clutch replacement, probably a loose connection to the main starter feed or the engine earth. What you have read is implausible, a DMF during its life does not produce "swarf", a catastrophically failed Sachs clutch pressure plate can chew up the aluminium bellhousing and gearbox casing but you would have lost all clutch action and the graunching sounds are unmistakeable. When a clutch plate wears it produces frictino material dust, not swarf, this could hypothetically cause the starter pinion to stick on the shaft, not really heard of on VAG engines which have pretty much bullet proof starter motors. Once again it would help if you were to confirm what problems if any you had with the starter motor and when.

^^^ I'd suggest tyres have been run underinflated
  25. As I still have a 3-year warranty, I haven't installed the software as I don't want to lose the warranty
  26. Well done. It can sometimes be difficult spotting our own mistakes and a second person can see what we have overlooked, and often it can help to have someone who doesn't know about cars (or really care) and get them to get you to follow the process or instructions and get you to strictly follow their instructions, thus following the instructions to the letter in the order given, My very, very relucent glamorous assistant may bring me a mug of tea see me struggling with something not going back on right and say something like "it looks like you are fitting that with the top at the side" and sure enough I am. Decades of running 20-50 year old cars as dailies means she has much experience of breakdowns and repairs and noises recognition without ever wanting to. She is much better at noises than me and previously has said thing like, that sounds like a bearing, or another time its the brakes or when I said the hood frame rattles she assured me it was the passenger seatbelt spool. A number of times I said she's got it wrong but it was me that was wrong, as you say I learnt, not to ignore her suggestions or audio diagnosis. Are you sure your TMPS works off a tyre valve transmitter, if so it needs pairing, if it's the other system (off ABS ring) then it might be a problem with the sensor, its connection(s) or wiring at sensor end or anywhere back to reporting module. Usual diagnostic checks and using all the diagnostic tools available and not just scan tool as outlined before and shown in good diagnostic videos like the ones Milligan Auto Diagnostics posts and a number of other good and proper diagnostics people. Never just trust what a computer, or any other diagnostic tool, tells you without first checking the tool is fully functioning and then check and cross reference any results. If you follow a machine/tool error from the machine or you not setting up or testing it then you can waste lots of time and possible introduce more errors and issues. Good luck.

@SkOmk4 thanks very much for the information. I’m not with my car right now but I’m certain it looks exactly as your photo above - so no cover is correct it seems.

They were removed due to a recall for a fire risk. It should then have been replaced with a new one under warranty when available.
  29. Alarm horn on your car appears to be fused from Fuse 54, 15 Amp value. It has only LIN 1-wire comms to the BCM, not CAN connected. See if there is evidence of a drain via that fuse? (Not mentioned in your original post, so I guess not?) Would be good to get a VCDS scan of the BCM (module 09) to see if it is registering a fault with the alarm horn (probably). That may, I suppose be causing things to not shut down fully. Not sure.

The wheels et cetera are original so presumably the old style roundel would be more appropriate.
  31. Hi my bad it is a 7 speed dq200 and the engine is a 1.6 TDI
  32. Welcome. It could be the dsg, but you need to say what dsg you have. What engine has the car and does it have a 7 Speed Dry Clutch DSG, a DQ200 (is it a 1.6 TDI.) or a 6 speed wet clutch DSG, a DQ250. 2.0 TDI or TSI. The DQ200 has no servicing regime but a 2013 should maybe have had Service Campaign '34H5' sometime after 2017. A DQ250 needs serviced every 40,000 miles or sooner.

  34. Or use sport mode perhaps in auto ?
  35. Are you sure? Both Luk and Sachs more than often sells these as a kit. What is your VIN number?
  36. Is that it....Great...il go sell my kidney now.....
  37. Thanks to those who have shared their experiences. I've made my order this afternoon! L&K Hatch with the TSI 265, silver pebble, cognac interior and 19" alloys. I'm really pleased to finally settle on a specification and excited to drive it as I've never actually driven the TSI! But looking at the videos online and the stats, I don't think I will be disappointed in it. Now for the long wait....
  38. Looking at your pic, and the parts catalogue, it looks like those metal pipes aren't part of the matrix, but unscrew/unclamp from it?
  39. We've a 2015 Polo 1.8 GTI with the same DQ200. A mate had a 2015 Fabia 1.2 with the same DQ200. Obviously different settings due to the differences in power, but they feel like very different DSG's. Across the three DSG's we have/had, I've never found Eco mode to live up to its name. Quite possibly my driving style, but with the vRS (DQ250) I had, I tried over a sustained period with Eco because people on here thought there might be something up with my car because of relatively poor mpg - turned out it was fine, just my crap h-t-w journeys that were killing it. IIRC Andy (Auric) on here always had his meteor grey vRS in Sport mode, never anything else, and with no reported detrimental effect on his mpg. Gaz
  40. This is true, but when coasting you will travel much further than when ‘off throttle’ in gear, for instance when leaving a motorway, or approaching a roundabout, when you know you have to slow down, you can lift off so much earlier.
  41. I had one email headed Digital Deal File, and two emails from Skoda Financial Services. These emails have copies of purchase agreement, Financial arrangements etc. I would make sure that they have the correct email address, and then get them to send those emails ASAP, I don't think that you get given any paperwork now. It's all online now, apparently it's progress......
  42. Certainly would not expect the pollen filter to look like that after 9 months unless it's been on the Paris - Dakar.
  43. Blimey... That looks like it's never been touched!!

There’s a good few ideas to upgrade either keeping the same size as original and moving to drilled/grooved discs, or moving to larger discs - but you’ll need different caliper carriers and potentially calipers (not sure on that) so can get expensive. There isn’t a simple swap like there used to be Octavia vRS mk1 to Fabia Mk1 vRS. All disc size setups are either FWD or AWD. Yours as AWD will be 340mm front and 310mm rear. Both swts of discs will be vented. Ignore anything that says 312mm front and 300mm rear as that’s for the FWD setups. It’s amazing how many places get it wrong.
  45. I have this noise on "cold" startup as well, and I need to address it. For detailed information and visual explanation - which I plan to follow as well - scroll down on page 173 of this thread, and its followin on page 174.
  46. Suzuki Swace (aka Toyota Corolla Touring Sport) - last of a model as Suzuki are going SUV or electric only, so I bought for a huge discount. I test drove and wasn't expecting to like it to be honest - er whoops. I was amazed I fitted ok as I'm 6ft 4" tall, it's a low car but basically I was incredibly comfortable with seat on the lowest setting and my elbows were perfect re arm rests either side(I usually bash against the B pillar of most cars - hence my previous need of a Superb). However my favorite bit is the way the Toyota hybrid gubbins drives - it's not for everyone but it really suits my driving style. Eco mode keeps engine revs low (when it runs!) but pulls surprisingly well when you need it. Setting off or pulling out of corners on country lanes quite addictive as it really winds up with petrol and electric combined. Economy is stunning but both the Swace and Corolla have very pessimistic fuel gauges - Theoretically it has a 43l tank but I rarely get much more than 30l in when it's showing circa 30 miles to go. Not so much of a problem though as you get about 450 miles on that (less in winter, more in summer). Another Selling point for us was the 596l boot that's about the same length as the one we had in the Superb.

Mine has now started with this problem now. Phoned my local dealer to ask about possible recall or cures for vehicles with this problem and was told they know nothing about it. They even told me that they had not heard about any other models with this issue.. There seem to be plenty of things related to this so how they hadn't heard about it is beyond me.

Came back from holiday and as expected the new sensors were here. They're 'noname' brand, or unlabelled Bosch (who knows ?), purchased instead of originals due to the new plugs and wire tails which came with them, so that I can get back to work in the car tomorrow without having to waste time sourcing new plugs etc. It took under an hour to splice, solder, wrap and seal the wire transplants. Once the car started the codes were cleared, and by the time I drove to the nearest motorway the oil temp was warm enough for a regen to begin as soon as I hit the motorway. I've done a few stop/starts, and battery-off reset, no codes, all working fine. I'll monitor how often it regens and then consider doing a sensor adaptation if it needs it. MPG reading has increased (better economy) back to where it previously was. But another problem has occured since not using the car for a week, I guess due to some condensation, the electric windows are misbehaving, the two rears weren't working at all but now work fine, but the fronts are very intermittent. I can hear the window relays firing briefly as I drive along, so there's a source of CANbus noise somewhere. All windows were in the down position this morning when I woke up, but the remote hasn't been touched. I'll have to monitor this.
  49. Tonight's leader debate: not one word from Sunak or Starmer about whether they prefer rubber or carpet mats in their car. Clearly, the BBC cruelly ripped up the question I submitted. But you can vote on this important issue - link below;
