  1. I would have thought someone with a body hammer and the right shaped dolly behind the panel ought to be able to tap that out with the wheel arch liner removed. Tapping that crease out will probably pull the top edge down to match the bonnet "shut line". Wee bit of stopper to get the profile spot-on and Robert's your mother's brother.... 👍

Many thanks for this Warrior193. With all the other comments on here I was beginning to doubt whether I had direct or indirect TPMS. I saw the pressure drop on the left rear tyre notification quite clearly. I have since examined the TPMS menu on the infotainment screen and the car does not disclose individual tyre pressures. I clearly have an indirect TPMS system.
  3. And a few from this weekend.....
  4. Have to say this seems sensible: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/756814
  5. Better not to try using Imperial taps and dies on Metric stuff as that would only compound your troubles. Note that I only ever use these taps and dies to clean up threads and never to cut new threads. If I need to cut new threads I use “proper” quality taps and dies.
  6. Hey all, new signup to Briskoda. First time ever we're soon to have a 2-Skoda Stable with Scala keys in the handbag and soon to arrive an Octavia 4 Combi (Style spec) for me as I change out of a 2012 Volvo S60. First job - roofrack (have thule wingbars to maybe move but considering a change here too) Looking forward to picking up the keys of my new (to me!) car and plaguing the forum for advice and knowledge! Brian.
  7. I don't have the Canton system on my car but my sound system returned to normal after starting the car while leaving work. I asked Gemini what the problem might be and the possible solutions. It suggested me a solution to stop the engine, lock the car and leave it for at least half an hour so that every bus is unenergized. When I started the car after several hours everything was normal on the sound system.
  8. Just ordered the final bits White led vanity mirror lights Parking brake switch (chrome chipped on my one) Rubber boot liner windscreen mount DAB aerial Final for now anyway. I keep browsing the forum and seeing ideas for things that take my fancy! Next up will be full service, dsg service and rear brakes in about 3000 miles or so.
  9. As promised an update to the squeaking noise from Drive Belt area, I collected my car today and the nice lady on reception said "All fixed" and the repair is done under the extended warranty. I was told by the receptionist that it was some "kind of grease" but she also mentioned waiting for parts to arrive so I opened the bonnet and started the engine up from cold on the forecourt to inspect and listen for any further squeaking. I noticed that the Alternator pulley has been changed and also it looks like a replacement A/C Compressor clutch as the bolts are all brand new down there as well. The car sounds as sweet as it should be and I test drove it for 20 miles to road test it and bed everything in. All good and the squeaking has now been rectified. I took out extended warranty /All in service plan last year and that has already been worth the money as I had the oil and filter changed a full "Health Check" where they look for some work to charge you for (Air conditioning check £145 for example). The car is only low mileage and has a full Skoda service History, last two services carried out by this dealership, so if the belt had shredded and destroyed the engine after me flagging up this squeaking noise then the Garage would have been liable for missing it on inspection, so in fairness they gave it a good going over as it was in both our interests to do so. Hope this helps anyone else who may have a similar, noise. Don't ignore noises in your drive belt area as on my previous Skoda I took the car to the main agents with a squeak that they tried to fob me off as "Normal Noise" I reminded them the car was under manufacturers warranty and left it with them .I also mentioned there was a TPI out regarding this noise. Few hrs later they had fitted a new cam belt which was obviously defective.

I'm back again - Octavia number four. After a brief flirtation with an M3 Touring, I have realised my driving abilities were no match for the car and so I am returning to my spiritual home before it either bankrupted me, sent me to prison or outright killed me. This time, I've gone for a Race Blue estate (having previously had a black VRS estate, a red VRS estate and a white VRS saloon). What did I miss?
  11. Hope so! I bought it based on another post on the forum. It’s the right pcd and offset different by 2mm. But half an inch narrower to fit under the floor. Rolling diameter is less than 0.5% different from current wheels. Going to do a test fit later in the week.
  12. I do wonder if the lack of a mandatory maintenance schedule for Tesla is a contributory factor? Although saying that many cars undergoing their first MOT will be recently returned from lease and may not have had a recent service or inspection, especially as many (none Tesla) EV's have a 2 year/20k miles serviced interval? When I purchased my XJ8 I was a little staggered to read it had failed its first MOT on bald tyres (cords exposed!!) at 14k miles, despite a full Jaguar main dealer service history🤔
  13. You know what, it is at times like this that you might consider buying a suitable set of taps and dies. I've been there done that, but quickly thought "f' this" and headed out and bought a suitable set of taps and dies, in my case, from Screwfix, which is still all intact and very much in use. So that means that I tend to wire brush, then clean any exposed threads using a die before adding in release oil. From memory, is the partial blocking of the ARB link nut by the car "bits" not just down to whither or not you have the car jacked up or still resting on its wheels but with them on ramps? Edit:- I've even, before buy a suitable set of taps and dies, ended up with the Torx bit ending up expanding the section of the thread out beyond the where the nut starts from - and that really was a show stopper forcing me to chopping the end of the thread off and so trashed that ARB drop link. In my years of working on 2002 VW Polo 1.4 , 2009 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 and 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI, I've never ever found any of the drop links to be worn - which was a bit annoying for the 2002 car that I ended up chopping the end of one drop link and fitting new VW parts, the 2009 car got its original drop links refitted so the bought Febi replacements are still available, the 2015 car currently has its original drop links refitted to it, the new VW drop links are still available, but maybe I'm frightened to fit them as THEY COST A BOMB - warning, the VW Group drop links should never be bought if you can help it as buying them will hurt your wallet!
  14. Thanks there’s some interesting stuff there.
  15. Perhaps a good clean with a wire brush might clear the threads prior to applying penetrating oil. However, it might be wise to just replace them as I think some wear will be present.
  16. As you can see it's a sharp crease which probably won't push out (plus an earlier shopping trolley scrape!).

The VAG (Skoda) indirect TPMS does identify which wheel is affected - however the text message identifying which wheel is only displayed for a very short time, after which, it only displays the general warning. The identifying text is easily missed while driving - but it can be recovered by interrogating the vehicle status menu once you have stopped (or by co-driver) It should be noted that the TPMS will also flag an increase of pressure, possibly caused by tyre overheating.
  19. Yep motor factors are super-sh1te at resolving number plates to models and engines/parts etc. Depends if your 4x4 is petrol 280 or TDI For 280 4x4: Front discs are 340mm vented. Rear Discs are 310mm vented. For everything else including diesel 4x4: 312mm vented front and 300mm solid rear discs. Rear pads are the same apparently. Front are different (but they should say to work with 340mm or 312mm which should tell you the difference.

The indirect system works by comparing the rotation speed of each wheel with a standard speed set when initiallised. If a tyre loses pressure it will rotate faster and the alarm will go off. I have two cars with indirect TPMS. On the older one (a Stellantis car) the alarm just shows that there is a pressure loss but not which tyre. I had this a couple of weeks ago. It was a piece of stone which produced a jagged unrepairable puncture, and the pressure loss was fast enough that I could feel where it was due to the way it pulled to the left. Our Karoq also once gave me a warning, but in this case it told me which tyre was affected. It should have been easy with a bit of extra coding to indicate which tyre is a problem. My daughter has a 2008 Panda and that had a puncture about the same time as the Stellantis car. In both cases we were glad of the fact that both had spare wheels. It was inconvenient, but would have been far more inconvenient if they weren't available.. I would never have a car without a spare if at all possible. As for filling with nitrogen, there are apparently some benefits, and some of the claims are true. But in a cost/benefit analysis the general opinion seems to be that it is a waste of money. It's ok for Formula 1 cars and airliners, but gains are really marginal for general use.
  21. Turning the ignition on with a key or by pushing a button does exactly the same thing. More likely that that method of pushing down pedals and counting doesn’t do anything, especially not reset DSG gearbox. You need VCDS or similar to do that if you really think it needs reset.
  22. My Citigo has done this since 2014. It does stop for a while when brakes cleaned. Just shuffle backwards and forwards with the clutch out and in. Releases with a bang. Ok again for a time.
  23. At the Res today
  24. I had two Citigos bought from new and ran to around 100,000 miles each. Both had this issue from nearly new in damp weather.
  25. Highly unlikely to be Citigo only but something any braking system could replicate. If you cant strip and clean them yourself then yeah get them looked at, something isnt right for them to grip that much even for a few hours.
  26. How old is your Car Battery ? you can get a myriad of strange faults appearing when the voltage gets too shaky on these modern Can Bus systems, that would be my first port of call. Make sure you code the new battery into the car so it knows it has a New battery .
  27. I have the same issue on my Superb. My thought on this is that the trough give more structure integrity, allowing for a lighter wheel However I have been wrong before 😎
  28. The problem turned out to be a bad seal of the fuel pressure regulator onto the fuel rail, I eventually noticed diesel dripping from that spot. Frustratingly three garages I took the car to couldn't see this obvious sign, I thought I might have been going mad. I ended up taking it to a well reputed Skoda guy far away (Tadhg O'Riordan in Kanturk) and he saw the problem straight away and fixed it in an afternoon for €80!
  29. Changed the gaiter today. Old one was starting to peel on the corners. Got a nice black leather mk7 golf one from @tombee Dismantling from car was pretty straight forward. Taking the knob off the top of the gaiter was challenging. A couple of screwdrivers prying key parts and some swearing was required. Also managed to push the button in when doing it which the manual says is a no no and you need a special tool to reset it. Turns out you can flip the top off and reach in with a screwdriver to reset it. The golf gaiter is bigger than the superb one so had to cut it down a bit. And the original is stapled on to the frame. I doubt it would have taken more staples as it seems a bit brittle. And I don’t have a stapler. So superglue and some pegs to hold it all in place was the method I went for. Had to pleat in some corners but kept that to the front so it can’t be seen in the car. Then made the schoolboy error of not putting the metal ring on before the knob. Doh. All in all wasn’t too bad and really pleased with the look. A note for those with the new P switch on top of the gearbox. If your gaiter is a bit baggy as mine is now, it can get trapped between the shaft and the switch and make it so the switch doesn’t press and you can’t get the key out the ignition. Some careful positioning of the gaiter and it seems to be all Good.
  30. Might be power steering fluid is past it or low and has too much moisture in it. Old volvo of mine used to squeel when starting when cold and once warmed up was ok. i changed fluid which was well past it and problem stopped. Still worth getting it scanned to see if its stored any codes. Could be as simple as a low battery.
  31. Hi, glad to hear it's still going strong. I had an Edition 100 a while back now and yes it did have a rear blind, it was a manual job to pull it up/down.
  32. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Mk4 Octavia. Coming from a V-Strom background, you will probably appreciate the balance of comfort and reliability this car offers. There is a lot of useful knowledge shared here, so you should feel at home quickly. Enjoy learning, sharing experiences, and safe driving in Budapest.
  33. Hello guys , I have a SK MK4 2021 and I have some issues with Skoda Connect . I've updated my infotainment to the last version and still having issues with it , meaning that i cannot become the mail user and also I cannot see 4G/LTE icon , meaning that I dont have internet to connect to the servers . After some back and forth emails with Skoda support I figure it out that the OCU module/SOS has to be updated . Is there a way for me to update it myself home or only at the dealer ? Thank you
  34. Hi all, I've been kicking this around for a while, forgot to update you. 🤔. TL;DR; I'm aiming to offset our communities impact on the planet at https://ecologi.com/briskoda To that end, I personally do stuff, but I'm looking at the community, our impact, principally in delivering the community to you. I invite you to read on for yourself too. I had a few options, like a co2 neutral data center etc... That maywell happen when I can find one I think is a good match. In the short term though, I'm planting trees and buying co2 offset on behalf the forum. Which is essentially guesstimating how many tonnes of CO2 we burn for the servers/laptops to provide the forum. I've hooked up with Ecologi , if you signup to offset your personal CO2/trees, the planet gets bonus trees. CO2 The co2 is fairly easy, I'm covering it in excess this year. I'm also lumping in any miles I do for briskoda, which is nada so far this year. The assumption for our servers/network is roughly 430kWh per month in electricity. There is more in the whole chain, but it's almost impossible to calculate. This is about 754 miles driving for an average family car, or 300 ish kgs of CO2. I can only offset in tonnes, and the minimum is two tonnes. So this is easy, we're offsetting 2 tonnes per month. This I believe covers the pico/milliseconds of energy use over the millions of devices brisky data passes over to reach your eyes. Trees Trees, quite a few need to be planted for all the paper we've all used over the years. So inline with the overall goal of 1%, this roughly equates to 100 trees on top of the CO2 offset per month. Your own tree Each month from April 2021 we'll 'gift' a tree to a member. These are trees in the uk, with a what three word reference. You can save that and watch it grow from space I guess... in theory you can even go and give it a hug. Each month from the contributors to this topic/purchasers of tree clumps via our shop, all become eligible for each month. So buy once, your in the pot till I get bored, or the whole planet is a forest, in which case I'll be long gone, and so will you, mother nature 1, human 0. Month Winner April 2021 TBD The Future? There are some personal goals, I have quite a polluting hobby, driving lots of miles to climb a bit of rock. I'll be covering those of personally. Looking forwards for the community, there is much I think I can and we can do. I'm going to sit down one day and try to figure out the total since 2002... bit of fag packet maths required and it will have to be an overestimation too, especially for the miles driven for briskoda fun and business. So here's where your input comes in , thanks for reading this far too. Before I go much further, any other suggestions or schemes, maybe closer to home? I did email a few uk projects but no response, or not deep enough pockets, which brought my sad face on. If you want to add a tree or too, you can. Either under your own account, or add to the briskoda plantation/co2. : https://ecologi.com/briskoda and finally, they do have a uk tree planting scheme... which is what I was waiting for, although a tree is a tree. Thoughts? Each month I' also purchasing a UK tree planting slot. These are given initially to tree planters and other special awards. When exhausted or a spare slot, they will be awarded to a random member of freedom each month. 35. Finally got the car, the new car shine has gone off it for me as it’s been so darned long since I originally picked it up and had to return it to be fixed. Yes, it’s an brilliant vehicle to drive, I love the colour and it’s super quiet and comfortable but cos it broke down on pick up day and took so long to get fixed it meant I’ve spent 3 months driving around in a replacement car, a Ford Explorer, as my first full EV so now everything in the ŠKODA feels like it’s in the wrong place, there’s also that tiny niggle in the back of my mind that now say ‘what if it breaks down when I’m on a long journey’ so my original range anxiety is now coupled with breakdown anxiety so right now it’s not a relaxing drive at all. Totally gutted that I feel this way as this was the first brand new car we’ve had in 10 years
