  1. A lovely Roast dinner............ been a while Roast chicken stuffed with duck (or goose) fat, roast snips, roast and boiled potatoes, a few pigs in blankets with carrots, broccoli and gravy with the roasting fat tipped into it... If I can manage some of it, I have an apple crumble, cooked for me by my neighbour as a thank you for her husbands headstone.... She bought a large home made egg custard for me midweek too

  2. FATHER DEAR FATHER ♧ Two Priests decided to go to Hawaii on vacation .. 😎😎 They were determined to make this a REAL vacation by not wearing Anything that would identify them as Clergy .. As soon as the plane landed they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts , shirts , sandals , sunglasses , etc .. The next morning they went to the beach dressed in their 'tourist' garb .. They were sitting on beach-chairs , enjoying a drink , the sunshine , and the scenery when a 'drop-dead gorgeous' blonde in a topless bikini came walking straight towards them ..🍺🥂 They couldn't help but STARE .. As the blonde passed them , she smiled and said 'Good Morning , Father ~ Good Morning , Father' , nodding and addressing each of them individually .. then she passed on by .. They were both stunned ..! How in the World did she know they were priests ...!! ? So the next day , they went back to the store and bought even more OUTRAGEOUS outfits .. These were so loud you could HEAR them before you even SAW them ..! Once again , in their new attire , they settled down in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine ... After a little while , the same gorgeous blonde , wearing a different coloured Topless bikini , taking her sweet time , came walking toward them .. Again , she nodded at each of them , said 'Good morning, Father ~ Good morning, Father ,' and started to walk away .. One of the priests just couldn't stand it any Longer and said , 'Just a minute, young lady..' 'Yes, Father?' 'We are Priests and proud of it , but I have to know , HOW IN THE WORLD did you know we are priests , dressed as we are ...?' She replied , 'Father, it's ME , Sister Kathleen

(I did get the bull to finish tho, Lol) What a finish with my last three darts, or a fail. It was only in my spare bedroom with no-one watching, but I still did my victory dance, Lol.

  5. Having had 4 Skodas over the last 20 years I thought the new Octavia would be yet another excellent car. How wrong I was! There are so many annoying things surrounding the use of the new infocenter and with the car software that doesn't work correctly as mentioned in other posts. I can't see Skoda sorting these things out anytime soon, if at all, and the frustrated feelings every time I get in the car I can no longer live with. Despite the huge financial cost I'm off! Skoda you've let us down and you're losing loyalty.

  8. Chances are it might have been moisture on the auxillary belt, which can make a noise when it slips. If the timing belt is fine and all the timing is still working then you will be fine. The tsb relates to some of the tensioners and adjusters making noise. One of the solutions is to spray lubricant onto the tensioners and adjusters to quieten then down. VAG are always changing parts and revisions of parts so I wouldnt be unduly worried.

  9. I cleaned the strainer for the Haldex (4x4) pump, which is the second time of cleaning. Although the car was booked in to have its first MOT, brake fluid change and the Haldex serviced with the addition of a strainer clean which the main dealer agreed would be done for me as requested. Things didn't quite go as planned , a couple of hours after dropping the car off at the dealer I got a call stating that the mechanic had said what filter did I want cleaning as the Haldex didn't have one to which I repeated to the service person that it is a small white strainer on the end of the pump and I know that Skoda do not think it needs cleaning but it is a cause for pump failures across the VW group and I want it done. An hour later the car is ready but they say they didn't have time to do the filter but I could book it in some other time because it will take 3 hours and cost £300 just to clean it. Fuming, I calmly explained it an extra 10 minutes work and said ill have to do it myself at home again thanks for nothing. So the question would be are they incompetent or dishonest? At 12 Month / 14,000 Miles At 36 Months / 28,000 Miles So according to Skoda / VW this is not a service part and only an oil change is required every 3 Years. The second one was 80% as dirty as the first so I will clean again in another 14k or so.

  10. Well after a year of watching EMBN on YouTube i finally bought an emtb originally wanted a full suspension bike, but after much thinking and the fact I probably won’t be launching myself down the side of a Cliffe anytime soon, and 97% of the time I would be on road and odd flat trail I decided on a hard tail. Went to the local bike shop a couple of times to see what they had in, first couple of visits was very little due to no stock because of COVID. Went in last week to see what was available, and they still had a long lead time and no guarantee of getting the bike. But I saw a Haibike Sduro Hardseven in a large size which was the last bike they had in stock. Was told to take it for a spin round the block, Wow what a machine, so comfortable to ride, with so much room, coming from a 25yr old bike! So I said I would take it, thinking I would come back in week to pick it up, “We can have it, ready in an hour for you to take today” came the reply , so I rode it the 8 miles home all through the towns, not cycling gear on. Anyway that enough rambling on, Been out a few times and clocked up 65 miles in a week, normally used to manage 18.. So here is a quick pick.

  11. New car round 2!! Finance accepted and deposit paid on this one from Marshall’s. I am much happier with the incredibly thorough service from Marshall’s, have been through all the history, had a video sent to me, no pressure throughout and they’ve cut me a deal I’m really happy with on it. Collection on this one will be 3 weeks today as I need to wait for the Octy to go first as it is a bit more than the other one but it’s a facelift with some options which is what I really wanted. Let’s hope this one is better 😍 Will start a fresh thread when it arrives, keeps things separate 😊

  14. we shall .. my wife was just trying to be independent of me and also wondering if others with this model and time period had suffered these issues and whether they had any satisfaction from Skoda UK .. the dealerships are useless so it will fall back to Skoda UK one way or another . The key issue is ... is it accessory belt squeal due to moisture , pulley issues or timing belt/tensioner issues ?. The issue is IF it is the latter then it is £1000 as a genuine timing belt kit comes complete with belt tensioner and pump anything else isn't covered by parts warranty and out garage will not do it . If it is the accessory belt .. leave alone .. BUT if the timing belt subsequently fails neither Skoda or our garage will any have any liability and we have an £8000 bill for a new engine in a low mileage car! .. Hence her concerns and seeking help on this esteemed forum. My knowledge of mechanics stopped in the 70's with carburettors and real engines .. . I have a VrS 230 petrol .. and the excess electronics and inability to do anything without removing 1/2 the car really pees me off :(

  15. I had chicken soup/casserole (never sure which it was as I didn't label the tupperware before freezing and when I reheated it for my thermos I stirred it so much it all broke up...therefore I guess it's definitely soup??) with corned beef sandwiches (double meat treat Sunday) while sitting outside in the cold at work

  16. 15.5mph is just the speed the electrical assistance cuts out at. I quite like this as anything above it and I'm getting more exercise, under my own steam. I had a Badass dongle on mine, which meant I could ride effortlessly at 31mph, which was fun, but I ended up just being in a hurry to get everywhere. Having had a significant off at 15mph which included some time in A&E, I decided that powered up to 15.5 is enough for me. So I've a Badass dongle, for a Shimano E6000 series going if anyone fancies one. Gaz

  18. What was the weather (temperature and humidity) when the noise happened, and how many days since it had last been used, and was it parked outside. Did you put a high load on the alternator (eg turning on electric window heater, & mirror, seat heaters etc I query how many days parked, because you have a 3-4 year old car with only 20k miles, so clearly doesn’t do many miles per month. Could have got quite a bit of condensation whilst parked. If there had been condensation /damp a belt might have slipped a bit, more likely to be the auxiliary belt. But if garage now parks it in the warm or dry they are never going to replicate a damp belt slipping however long they keep it. I would get them to check the belt tension, and spray the pulleys of alternator, water pump etc with a water repellent, possibly also spray a few drops of penetrating oil on each of the shafts, just in case they are not turning completely free.

  19. Just washed the Rapid despite the on-off rain. Needs must as gulls always bombard the car at works car park. Did a fallout remover treatment. Then washed with autoglym shampoo. Finished with a ceramic wax. As you can see, the fallout remover definitely did its thing.

  22. My husband and i were dressed and ready to go out for a lovely evening of dinner and theatre. Having been burgled in the past, we turned on a 'night light' and the answering machine, then put the cat in the backyard. When our cab arrived, we walked out our front door and our rather tubby cat scooted between our legs inside, then ran up the stairs. Because our cat likes to chase our budgie we really didn't want to leave them unchaperoned so my husband ran inside to retrieve her and put her in the back yard again. Because i didn't want the taxi driver to know our house was going to be empty all evening, i explained to him that my husband would be out momentarily as he was just bidding goodnight to my mother. A few minutes later he got into the cab all hot and bothered, and said (to my growing horror and amusement) as the cab pulled away. "Sorry it took so long but the stupid bitch was hiding under the bed and i had to poke her arse with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off so i grabbed her by the neck and wrapped her in a blanket so she wouldn't scratch me like she did last time. But it worked! I hauled her fat arse down the stairs and threw her into the backyard....she had better not **** in the vegetable garden again." The silence in the taxi was deafening.....

  24. Is this on both sides or 1 as my friend had this issue and it was the spring cracked right at the top of the mount under the wing no noises or any other issues apart from the tyre wear, he had control arm bushes new track rod ends and a new hub bearing fitted but tyres still went the same way, you would not have believed it until the spring was removed from the car and could then see the fracture on the last coil part which was opening out on driving it seemed to changed the camber of the wheel thus causing this sort of damage, if tracking was this far out you would notice the way the car handled

Don't think it's been mentioned so far, but this is one reason NHS are rightly angry https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/maajid-nawaz/revelations-of-13pc-hmrc-pay-rise-shine-light-on-nhs-pay-dispute/ Then there's the fact that a 2.1% increase was promised and passed by Parliament previously (last year but relevant to the current reason for strike action being considered as document shown on Marr this morning )

  28. I'm jealous! I had a ham sandwich 'on the hoof' whilst ploughing through my (departed) mum's accumulation of every greetings card received in this house over a 52 year period. I can understand keeping certain special ones but _all_ of them? Next is a collection of several hundred (very dated) sowing patterns to be followed by enough material pieces to keep the Amish quilters busy for several years.

  29. The Legal Speed in the UK is what it is and what Importers can legally import and sell. What can legally be the top speed of a pedal assist. You can chip / mod them to be illegal pedal assist on the public road in the UK or for use offroad, Saying on a public forum that you have an illegal pedal assist in the UK is not that smart. I can ride pedal assists that are legal & i can go above 20 mph pedalling without assist and that is with one leg. As quick as i can downhill even breaking the 30mph limit if in one. Then i can pedal with assist up hills as quick or quicker than some cyclists with 2 legs, but then i have assist up to 15 and a bit mph and lots of torque dependingon which electric motor the bike has. For me the best one for climbing is the Brose motor on a Specialised.

  33. I had a feeling you were slightly off... so had to check - Elegance is the 3rd up trim level - classic - basic ambiente - med low (mine was this) elegance - med high vrs - shportee L&K - top end the "lx" ones below are the preFL trim levels. however... theres no electric adjustable seats optioned for the elegance or L&K taken from parkers. so... those electric seats were taken from another vehicle and retrofitted - possibly not very well if theres play in the mounting..

  36. Front seat belts, especially drivers side seem to have been a potential cause for annoyance on Fabias, Polos and Ibizas from this period of manufacture, when it started being a problem with my wife's 2002 Polo driver's one, I left it fully extended over a weekend as I thought it felt damp, that worked for while, next plan was to repeat letting it dry out and try to hoover out any fluff etc, followed by spraying it with furniture polish and rubbing it with a cloth to work it in and remove any excess that could stain clothes - it worked okay after that until we moved it on at 13 years and 135K miles, though it was never "aggressive" in operation from new anyway.

  37. Letting the car idle for such a long time does not do any good. 30sec max, while say you put your seatbelt on or select modes, media etc. is fine, then just set off while obviously taking it easy during the first 5-10min (depending of temperature). The engine only really gets up to temp by driving it, idle has minimum effect and just wastes fuel for nothing.
