  1. Hello, welcome to the forum. 1 - I've never had an issue with pads squealing. Are you sure your pads are ok? 2 - I suggest copper ease grease (or similar) applied sparingly to the metal backplate of the pad. 3 - Yes, not an issue to remove then replace pads, make sure to refit everything correctly (retaining pins, shims etc.)
  2. Hello Pete, welcome to the forum. I'm not an EV owner, but I would suggest battery life/remaining capacity is more likely to be adversely affected by the way it's charged - I.e. always being charged to 100% Strongly recommend getting an independent check of battery condition on any 2nd hand EV.
  3. @Sunmoon Prezafab means that they believe that the timing chain should be changed as soon as possible (now)
  4. Hello, welcome to the forum. Yes, the 12 volt sockets are live at all times.
  5. If staying with metal caps once you've got the seized ones off, put a smear of copper ease grease on the valve stem threads before replacing.
  6. Hello YT, welcome to the forum. I remain impressed with the low-down torque of my 1.4TSI. Still happy to have missed out on the 'update' to the 1.5TSI COD version. Not totally convinced with SHIMBOs 1.0 TSI 110 either - although it would be the better one to chuck about on a gravel stage. 😁
  7. Enjoy your new car and holiday. If travelling in UK, avoid motorway rush hours if you can - I always try to get an early start.
  8. I always use nav as a guide, especially if I am not familiar with the route or destination, but do not rely on it for speed limits and ignore suggested routes that don't make sense. A feature I always find useful, even when not actually using map guidance, is the compass. SWMBO is not a good map reader, so it saves a whole lot of money on divorce lawyers when she is travelling with me. 😇
  9. Hi Wurze, I have seen more than a few halogen bulbs fail where the filament breaks, but temporarily 'welds' itself back together while flopping around. AFAIK, the glove compartment, trunk and similar lamps are not monitored by the system - as they are not safety related.
  10. ^^^ Plus avoid using full throttle, vary speed often rather than keeping to steady speed, don't allow DSG to shift up to top gear too early (perhaps switch to S).
  11. It makes no difference what system OP has - the changed speed limits will be invisible to all nav systems until (or if) the navigational data is updated.
  12. Hello Wurze, do you have standard halogen bulbs fitted? Any 'lamp out' warnings? Possibly a broken lamp filament. First suggestion would be to just replace suspect bulb. Same thing goes if you have HID lamps - common for discharge lamps to light-up then extinguish when life-expired.
  13. @pab567 this issue is not in any way specific to vehicle - but to when (or if) GPS gets updated with these revised speed limits. Always preferable to rely on mk.1 eyeball rather than simply following navigation system information.
  14. Hello, I'm guessing that it will take some considerable time for the maps to be updated - MSN and RAC (other news providers are available) are advising drivers not to rely on GPS for reduced speed limits. What is your experience so far - have the local authorities changed all the roadside speed signs?
  15. Hello @stevoablett I have looked up your fault code - a 1.4TSI driver on the VW forum posted the same fault (012480 - P30C0-00, fuel quality) - soft limp mode. Suggested causes were - - 1- possible faulty knock sensor, or - - 2, internal damage (broken piston ring lands) in engine causing detonation (pinking) and triggering the knock sensor, which is not able to retard the ignition timing any further. - compression check is required to check for this. Original poster on the VW forum eventually cured his issue by using a proprietary fuel injector cleaner. Good luck.
  16. Good point, that will require real-time data monitoring to check, but draining tank and refilling would be my first port of call.
  17. Testing at the master cylinder will not necessarily give a full indication of fluid condition - but should be sufficient for interim checks. More accurate results would be from fluid extracted via the bleed nipples on each slave circuit.
  18. Hello Steve, quantity doesn't equal quality it is possible that you have picked a contaminated batch of fuel (or mis-fuelled) and it has taken a little time for it mix with the tank contents. Water entrained in the latest fill up could do this.
  19. Agree - that did not look like battery was in thermal runaway at the time the blanket was deployed.
  20. Oh, I forgot the TDRA that will require completing before setting out on any journey - must be completely generic, be a minimum of three pages long - and contain at least 98% of risks that have absolutely no relation to task. That's just crazy, do I hear you say? Not according to my current employer!
  21. No, each would have to be kitted-out with full HSE PPE - yellow high-vis vest, safety boots, strobe beacons (for night/fog) etc. Convoys would have to be limited to 5 vehicles. Have I got a chance of running for Mayor 😇? Snowball in Hell!
  22. Active cylinder technology - where the engine switches to running in two-cylinder mode when lightly loaded.
  23. Keep a particular eye on corrosion around the rear suspension points!
  24. I wonder why the 'powers that be' don't just revert to the old law where someone waving a red flag has to walk in front of the vehicle!
  25. Hello, welcome to the forum. What size engine do you have - 1.5 ACT?
