Sudden braking for no reason
Hello Paddy, welcome to the forum. Check that the front radar sensor (or mounting bracket) has not been damaged in a minor parking shunt.

Red steering wheel warning
Does the battery appear to be recovering OK from low charging?

Red steering wheel warning
Hello Columbo, welcome to the forum. Get the battery tested as well, intermittent power steering can be an indication that the battery is failing.

"xxx not available when ignition off" error when engine is running
Still not an unreasonable expectation - my Octavia has a 6 year old EFB, most mileage is short trips commuting, and always use stop-start, battery still tests as good.

Stupid question probably, can I remove the battery to clean the terminals and re connect without any on board computer issues?
Hi NightShadow, welcome to the forum. From other postings on this question, you will probably get multiple fault warnings light up when you reconnect the battery terminals - but these should all clear after a short drive. If you wish to avoid this possibility, you could keep the car system 'alive' by connecting a 12-volt supply to the power socket, but this is not really necessary.

"xxx not available when ignition off" error when engine is running
Although quite reasonable to expect at least 4 to 5 years life from a battery given normal care.

"xxx not available when ignition off" error when engine is running
Hi Andy, welcome to the forum. That message means that one of the criteria for allowing the engine to perform an 'Idle stop' has not been met - therefore the engine keeps running (stop-start temporarily disabled) One of the criteria is A/C running - but set temperature not met. Another is possible windscreen misting/fogging conditions.

Auto button on blowers
On Auto setting, the fan speed will adjust in an attempt to get the cabin temperature to commanded temperature quickly (usually full-speed) - then ramp fan speed down as temperature approaches set point.

Quick exhaust question
Hi Beaumont, welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I don't know the answer - but I very much suspect there may be very significant differences between the two body styles. Ask the supplier for clarification - and an assurance in writing that it will fit. You might need to supply them your VIN.

Optimate for a car
For a normal, smart charger, there will be no issues with charging the battery while still on the vehicle - important to follow the instruction that the Negative charger connector be attached to the metal tag on the firewall - NOT to the battery Negative post.

MKIII Fabia battery type: only EFB?
I think you will find that the mode of operation of energy recuperation VW uses normally prevents the alternator from charging the battery more than 60-75% - this to allow battery capacity for the energy recovered under recuperation conditions - which, on shorter trips is limited and does not normally get the battery anywhere near 100% charged. It is not ideal for these types of battery to be undercharged for extended periods.

MKIII Fabia battery type: only EFB?
I had the alternator and battery on my MY16 Octavia replaced under warranty in the first year of ownership due to the stop-start not functioning. The cheapskates at the supplying dealer replaced the original AGM with a Moll EFB! - which still tests OK at 6 years, but I do 'nurse' it with an occasional charge because of frequently doing fairly short runs.

Draining fuel from mk2 Octavia vRS
How about disconnecting a fuel line as Gav_is-_con suggests and just using the vehicles fuel pump?

SCALA 1.0 versus 1.5 petrol engine for rural driving
Second trying the 1.0 TSI - be aware there are two engine versions, keep a lookout for the 6-speed, 110 PS version.

I can recommend the Ring smart charger.

I assume by that is that you felt that there was a significant drop in performance - did your consumption also go up?

Skoda Fabia estate mk3 2016 battery issues
Hello Zagato, welcome to the forum. One thing you may not be aware of - due to the way VW charging system utilises energy recuperation under over-run and braking conditions, the alternator very rarely will be permitted to charge the battery to more that 60-75% - even on a battery in perfect condition - leaving the remaining 25% battery capacity available for regenerative charging.

Front dampers
Almost a certainty that there are better options available than original. I'd be very tempted to change to Koni or similar when the time comes for mine.
