Off road wheels and tyres
Thats a strange comment daroya, since Aussiev6, the OP, reported 2 years ago in the post just above, of his successful 3000km trip using 17 inch wheels.

Propus Wheels reparability question
Well, whether I periodically maintain my calipers by cleaning and refreshing the paint, either using silverish Zn/Al paint, or red paint, or any other colour for that matter, I reckon that is simply maintenance of the original parts, and not a MODIFICATION which is what my insurance company would need informing of.

Wild rear pad/disc wear pattern.
My OE discs only lasted 20k miles from new and looked worse than yours. Brembo discs fitted as replacements have now gone 20k and still look new, little wear, (but do get surface rust if left unused in the rain for a few days - soon clears off with use).

Servicing - Dealer costs & digital records
Got mine dealer serviced for the first 4 years since I had purchased a 5 year extended warranty from new. From March this year ( at 5 yrs old) have serviced myself - including buying, while looking and planning ahead: 20 litres of bulk Fuchs 0W20 - VW 508/509 spec oil, 4-5 years worth of oil filters, fuel and pollen filters. About 130 quid for the oil and not much over 100 for the filters. Thats me set for a good few years for the price of one dealer oil change and “ inspection”. Now its under my full control Ive also added a few little optional extras like an Eezibleed/Fumoto sump valve, stainless steel brake bleed nipples and an AGM battery. Just need to assess when in future it will need cambelt doing and find the most suitable / cost effective expertise to handle that.

Tow bar bike carrier queery
So long as the rack / trailerboard electrical socket is plugged into the car, emergency braking in reverse is disabled. But - try reversing a utility trailer or boat trailer without the electrics connected and you wont get more than a foot or two without disabling it in the menu!!

About to embark on Skoda ownership, Superb L&K Estate
Still enjoying and learning from reading your work. Should try a couple of these things for alignment ( right first time) when changing/ refitting wheels:

coolant type
If its just a little low, why not top up with distilled water for now - a few hundred millilitres of water in 8 litres or so of coolant wont do any harm for now- then sort / fully flush in future ( before winter?) when you determine which coolant for your motor?

What have you done to your Superb III today?
5 yrs old this week, extended warranty ending: so changed oil and filter, fuel and air filters. Also renewed battery for a Yuasa AGM since just starting to see some voltage drops on the original if standing more than a few days. (To fit stainless bleed nipples and brakes to bleed in a week or two when its a bit warmer). registered for Erwin but need to pay the fee and explore how to add my work to the service log. can I please ask: this be done easily enough using an iphone or hp chromebook?

Is this off my Skoda Superb?
Looks heavy duty to me, almost like ( maybe?) it would be a reinforcement/ backing plate that fits behind a chassis section with a towbar arm on the other side of the chassis, fitted with nuts. does either car have or has once in the past had a towbar fitted?

Fan turns on and off without need.
Have a read of this recent thread - dodgy relay? Similar symptoms but not identical.

Perfect service history, my ass!
Changed my air and fuel filters today since coming to the end of 5 year extended warranty (oil and filter to do on a warmer day) my old air filter looks just like yours in the pic above: this after 37k miles albeit mostly rural long runs)

Does MY20 Superb 2.0tdi coolant tank contain silica?
P.s. with putting my cambelt change back a couple of years (at 5 yrs old and only 35k miles) I also wanted an easy way to change the coolant for now: decided to use a big (2-300ml ) syringe and empty that reservoir (it holds ~650 ml ), top up with new, then repeat each week or 2 after good warm runs. Used 5 litres of fresh coolant in total over a few months so with a little “ diminishing returns” each time I reckon about half or more of the original coolant has been changed ( maybe 4 litres fresh still in the system). Not really any hassle to do and no risk of airlocks etc. Just an easy approach to consider.

Does MY20 Superb 2.0tdi coolant tank contain silica?
My 2020 tdi reservoir looks like yours and uses G12 evo coolant, no silica in the tank. Pretty sure yours will use same coolant and this was the new version of coolant that doesnt need silica in the system.

Wet Timing Belt
The new February edition of “Car Mechanics” magazine includes a “how to” guide for timing belt renewal on the 1.5 TSI evo engine, with lots of pictures and the special toolset needed, for anyone interested.

Parts name engine bay
Try “ air intake guide duct inlet” or similar play on words? Looks like similar things on eBay for other vw models or try car breakers?
-
Wet Timing Belt
You maybe need to speak to one of their technicians who actually does the job and knows the engine- presumably its the service desk that “confirmed” to you it had a wet belt? Maybe they just confirmed what you told them- without knowing ?

Spark plug replacement/tyre sealant
yup, buy your own sealant, or sealant and emergency “ worm” repair kit as well - the above recent thread may be interesting.

Tyre check indicator
Thinking “ out of the box”: warning only appears after 17 miles : maybe when tyres and pressures have “ warmed up”? Warning suggests ( at least) one tyre circumference is relatively / detectably different - only after about 17 miles- than the others. is it possible there is something “simple” but different about one of the tyres with respect to warming up / pressure / circumference change? For example: - is one Nitrogen filled- others air filled? - are they all same type/pattern/ load rating? - is one brake binding, so warming up that disc-hub- wheel more than the others? there may be other possibilities but the fact it doesnt show up until after a good few miles suggests that warm tyre pressures are a factor rather than cold tyre pressures? what happens if you reset when warm after 17 miles - does it stay off when cold the next day? OR, as J.R. says above ( while I was typing) - a faulty ABS wheel sensor? But strange it takes so many miles to detect

2021 Style with basic led headlights
Re. above, for anyone wanting a spare or replacing: its actually a 24W bulb, and the plastic base of this bulb ( sort-of) fits both ways into the harness/holder, but only snaps properly into place when its oriented the right way round! And theres not much play within the short harness wire length down behind the lamp unit, or space, to do it.

2021 Style with basic led headlights
Yes, I should have remembered : although I said above its a sealed unit, the indicator bulb is actually a changeable halogen bulb - but its a specific Philips 25w bulb with an odd base design, not a typical indicator bulb. Its a fiddly job to do though - how do I know? Well - - I like to carry a spare set of bulbs and when the car was new, difficult to find exactly what bulbs were used. So I took one out to find out. Problem then arose that the odd design on the bulb appeared to clip into the “bulb holder” ok but when pushing it back into the lens unit the bulb fell out of the holder into the light unit - I had it in 180 degrees out. took ages to fish it out from a big deep cavity with a bulb sized entrance hole - eventually with some sticky duct tape on the end of a thin cable tie to catch it. so yes in theory this front indicator bulb is replaceable- with a lot of care.

2021 Style with basic led headlights
Mine is a 2020 SE estate with non Matrix LED headlight so probably same as yours: - they can be adjusted somewhat ( up/down at least and probably to the side) since my local MOT garage had to adjust one side down to pass its year 4 MOT. Sorry dont know which adjustment knobs do which adjustment. - LED headlights like this dont use one bulb, they use a bank of LEDs behind the reflectors and are sealed units. p.s. have you tried adjusting the aim up/down using the car menu settings - lights- headlight range? Any better? hope you get it fixed- keep us updated how you get on.

tyre repair kit
Great thread for “ideas”, this! Despite having a spare wheel in the skoda the info here has prompted me to buy a bargain rubber worm kit (of 2 tools, glue and 5 worms for under £4 on ebay). Can see it being used one day on either minor slow punctures or trailer tyre, or our other cars to avoid using spacesaver spares. Also Ootohere’d info on vulcanising- Redpath Wooler not too far away from us- handy to know - just in case.
