Sasha’s Octavia vRS

Thanks @wg100 & @SashaGrace for your advice. I'm now not so sure I want to go for the highline - the main attraction was that it was pre-calibrated (according to the eBay link posted earlier in the thread) and also the wash jet function.

I have a camera (well two actually, I thought the cut-out/handle for my car (a 15 plate) would be the same as Sasha's, but it's the larger cut-out/ handle) from AliExpress and may go down the lowline route (and no washer).

Don't get me wrong, my highline camera works with the distance and turning lines. It is simply the official calibration with the target board that hasn't happened. Unless you're trying to use the camera for park assist, I don't think you'll have any issues.

I know you fitted them at the same time as your BBK (so difficult to answer this question), but do you think having the brake ducts provide a useful cooling effect to the brakes?

I'm looking at possibly doing this as a little lockdown mod, as I've noticed in recent weeks after having a razz on the way home from work the brakes seem to be boiled after only a half hour jaunt. I got out the car the other week on a particularly warm day and you can hear them hissing, clunking and they smelt hot. I expected the tyres to feel warm, but the front alloys were very warm to the touch. Similar symptoms today on a far cooler day; some 10'c cooler.

It’s hard to say as I did mine with the BBK but other people have been happy with them on the standard brakes too. For what they cost I’d be inclined to add them, they are easy to fit too.

Hi Sasha!

I just ordered a pair of fl rearlights, do you know any guide of making the adaptor for the new lights?

I didn’t make mine, someone else did in exchange for some door controllers.

Hi Sasha

Found your video ref getting the wireless carplay using the Carlinkit dongle.  I am torn between that and the carplay2air.  Do you find your Carlinkit dongle fairly seamless and do all the steering wheel buttons work and is there any delay?

You mentioned using Carbridge on another topic which I have finally got working on my iphone and can now see the route bar on TomTom GO from my iphone on the head unit, which is not possible with standard carplay.  I can now see the mobile cameras and traffic jams coming up, well worth $4.99 for the app.

Thank you for this great piece of advice

Simon

Yes everything works just fine with this dongle, it’s great but I’m glad I got it in a sale, paid £80 for it instead of the £100 odd it is now.

A new retrofit is in progress, has been for a while but a faulty part was sent and that has thwarted progress but a new part is on its way to sort the issue and then stage one of the last big interior upgrade will be done.

Thank you for the quick reply, I will buy the same as your version on from Ali currently at £94.

Just for info, You were in a thread ref front spoilers/splitters which covered a number of designs.  I went for a £41 one on ebay which comes in 3 parts.  Fitted it yesterday ad it is still there after a run up the dual carriageway.  While perhaps not as well made as the one over £100 it fits well to the profile of the car, left picture shows the shape best and is a cheap curb clipper

Yep probably wrong thread, but as I was here😁

Excuse the fault light, the rear xenon level sensor is snapped so that needs sorting and the fault clearing, also need to redo all the front light channels as half the lights don’t work but BCM swap is complete and we have ambient lighting with 30 colours and key personalisation.

Got the door cards with light strips ready (the fourth one is being delivered tomorrow), just waiting on wiring supplies to get these done.

Also got RGB footwell lighting on order as this is a 084CG BCM with support for that.

We are not worthy.

I've managed a f&r dashcam and (with assistance from yourself) a reversing camera...

Damn you are going all out ! 👌

Can the door ambient lighting be fitted without the dash by coding and replacement door panels? I've a mib2.5 with 9.2" screen retrofitted to my 2014 vrs

Haha that’s not true, I’m not doing anything that is unique on MQB, just most people are doing it on the Golf or not in the UK.

You need the BCM to run them, I mean technically yes they can if you make some controller of your own to do it but if you want it done OEM you need a replacement BCM.

Thanks :) I hope to have it working at the weekend.

I have bought a GoPro and am considering looking for a project to film over summer as I get bored being at home for 6 weeks and although I have my wife (also a teacher) and our 4 year old (will be 5 by then) it’s nice to have a break. My bachelors degree is in graphic design and I am learning my way around some video editing software so there could be something on the horizon to watch this year, who knows 🤷‍♀️

Well a drone could help! 🙂

My old Octavia started my old mountain video off in your neck of the woods (I'm a very keen mountain climber) so maybe give you some ideas for your project!

I think the Wireless CarPlay has just made the list. Will also look at the Qi charging too. Currently have a Brodit mount but never been happy with it.

@SashaGrace Parts on order, hopefully Aliexpress will be a bit quicker than 40 days but we'll see. I may tap you up for tips when the time comes.

In the meantime, where did you power the USB box from?

Thanks

Hi, how did you mamage the 30 colours for background lighting? Is it really playing with the RGB values one by one via vcds?

Ref wireless carplay, Aliexpress have a sale on, again!, and there is a wireless carplay dongle for under £90 which looks to be the same design but not the same name as the one @sashagrace recommended and I have coming slow mail from China.  Might be worth a look?

Thanks. As it happens it’s not the level sensor that’s the culprit. It appears to be dataset related but my VAS has packed in so I’m waiting on a new one before I can try and get to the root cause of the issue. So please enjoy a nice side shot Saturday instead.

Inspired by your photo above spent 5 hours painting my 4 brake calipers Skoda Rallye Green in tribute to my Mk1 Octavia and Fabia Vrs models and put on the refurbished (painted silver) Audi RS6 replica 8.5J x 19” alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
