No! The right half is all white, it copies the screen twice on the left and only the top quarter works. All the functions worked though so I had sound while I was waiting. Screens are just screens, you can change them around no problems, though they don’t always work properly! A MIB2.5 screen will work on a MIB2 but not on a MIB1 properly.

And to confuse things further, the Columbus screen didn't change from MIB1 to MIB2! Lots of different Columbus MIB2 main units though, I think I may have bought on without DAB

Are you saying if I get a MIB2 Columbus it will work with my current Columbus MIB1 Screen once the MIB2 is unlocked?

I believe so, there is only 1 p/n for the Columbus screens, 5E0919606, facelift is 5E0919606D. I've actually bought an early Columbus screen to go with a MIB2 unit so we'll find out soon!

Thanks,

I will keep my eyes open for one then. New ones on ebay fully unlocked with smartlink but for nearly £800.

We have MIB2 Amundsen in the Yeti with Smart Link and I really miss Android Auto in the Octavia even though the Columbus screen is far superior.

Yeah that's why I want to upgrade really, ability to use Google maps on android auto and better radio logos

You can get them cheaper then do component protection/smartlink yourself at a dealers. I guess there's the risk of it not working though, I'll let you know in a few weeks.

Matches Meteor Grey an' all!

Just over £8 for two covers & two metal ends, delivered in two weeks from Ali Express...although the metal ends seem to have gone up very slightly since.

Love that, which colour did you go for to match the meteor grey? I can't see one at that link and I'd love one to match the colour of the car.

Think it was just described as grey

Thanks, sadly that one is no longer on there :( Time to hunt again, I've seen loads of dark grey but not meteor.

Just checked - looks like that colour's gone.

 Hopefully one of the other seller's has one left, thanks all the same.

Arrived this morning, can't wait to try it out.

All I need is my car back, daughter and new grandson using it for a couple of weeks.

I don’t mind thread hijacks, the colour of key covers is a very important topic! I chose mine as it’s as close to the Quartz Grey as I could get. Don’t know why I chose the white one, just did!

This car has made me catch the mod bug and that’s a bit of an issue as it’s a daily but I think I can sneak a set of coilovers and Bentley alloys into the house without being noticed! Maybe over the summer if I put some more hours in haha.

Almost forgot about this, went over 80k recently and I managed to catch it, well, the passenger did.

LED number plate modules coming soon!

Yes very, like I say, I’ve never done anything like this before and I’ve managed to get my head around the software in a few mins.

I was put off by the 250-300 price for the usual VAG diagnostic type tool, but seeing Sasha's posts I thought I'd give this OBD-11 a go.

Great little bit of kit, easy to use with Android phone after initial 20-mins working out what was what. Even picked up an interesting fault code or two, for things I'd mentioned to my dealer at service but they said they couldn't find anything !

  • Author

Which dealer are you using, Sytner Junction or Pant Waen?

I use Junction for service. Sytner (like a lot of main dealer groups now) are getting greedy price wise, but the Technician and Service Manager at Junction always look after you and do decent work.

Waunfawr was good back in the days when John F had it, but not had recent experience of how experienced their Techs are.

From being ex-motor trade and having mates still working in it, think it's a shame Skoda have pushed for these big flash group-dealerships, as though they may have certain good individuals working there, the group accountants are too busy trying to hit short term targets and forgetting long term customer loyalty, when compared to smaller/family owned dealers.

  • Author

I’d agree with that, Karl is really good at looking after me even with all the strange requests I have, like CP removal on my MIB2, but the prices are usually on the most expensive end of what Skoda recommends. Can get a decent discount though :)

44k is barely run in!!! I imagine this one will be with me until it’s on 130k or so, or whenever it turns 6 as I’ll probably sell it then and try something else.

Tomorrows job will be fitting these

Proper LED plate lights. If they look good I might whack one in the Citigo to replace the Osram bulb I fitted a while back in the standard bulb holder. That should distract me from writing for a while haha :D

Another one! I’ll be asking Voltas for commission soon ;)

As they are a proper VAG part they should look exactly as the latest facelift cars look. Will grab a couple of pics tomorrow when fitted :)
