That sounds awfully complicated to a luddite like me!

The inbay aftermarket one is just power and ground and comes with everything needed to install if that helps? Wouldn't bring that message up but it would still charge the phone.

It does - thanks

Today the wireless CarPlay dongle arrived and I’ve been testing it. I’m super happy with it and the vendor. They said they weren’t sure if it would work with a Skoda but I was very confident it would. They named the device Skoda which is awesome and it has worked flawlessly out of the box with minimal setup. I’ve hidden it behind the dash and put my custom USB charge socket back in the factory location so I have CarPlay with no wires. I don’t need no MIB3 😂

Can you give more details of the dongle for this?

Where from, how much etc..

THANKS

It needs to be for a VW/Audi radio, the one on eBay could be for a WinCE/Android radio and they are much cheaper. Make sure you get one that is meant to work with a MIB radio.

Just read through the whole thread, loving the work put in! Just a quick one about the paddle extensions, would you happen to know which ones are suitable for the mk2 wheel?

  • Author

Couldn’t say with experience but I’d imagine they are also Golf 5/6 paddles but you will have to check.

Awesome, thanks. Definitely beginning to think the MK3 will be my next choice after seeing all the available retrofits there are available.

And the more exciting tweak thanks to the super duper geniuses at MQB Coding are these new clock faces, made possible by the MIB Toolbox for MIB2 and 2.5 Columbus radios tested and working here on 1163 firmware. This toolkit can do so much with MIB’s but it’s very easy to brick the unit so please play carefully. Next job is to change the colour of the car in the menu to Quartz Grey and maybe do some more custom icons but for now please enjoy the Bentley Breitling and TAG Carrera clock faces. I’m just glad to have been along for the ride to test it on a Skoda 🙂

This is interesting. May I know if it's as simple as just unzipping all the files in the v2 toolkit zip to an SD card and let the car HU run the update?

What about the other files in other folders which the owner uploaded seperately?

  • Author

Yes. Download the toolbox to an otherwise empty SD, put the SD in the radio unit, run it like a software update, enter the green menu (you need to enable this with VCDS etc) and run the programme and it’ll install. Then take a dump of the skin files, go back to the computer, extract the images.mcf folder, replace the clock face, hands and background png’s with new ones, compress the files and then upload skin 1 files to the radio using the toolbox and restart the radio. All done :) Needs to be a MIB2 or 2.5 Columbus and not all firmware versions are tested yet. Mine is 1163 and definitely works.

Another day, another mod and got another exciting one coming either today or tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have a Superb FL Climate panel among other retrofitted items but my trim is an Air Care branded one and I’ve never had Air Care. Until now!!

Thanks to the genius team at MQBCoding for the Instructions for DIYers!

Required setup:
-> new hypoallergenic
cabin air filter ( coated yellow!) -> MIB2 (Std2 + High2) infotainment system with MJ17 firmware
(High: VW from 0687, SEAT from 0674, Skoda from 0702)
-> Automatic climate control with a software
version of min SW1401 (there is only ONE version for all derivatives (except A3 / TT).
-> Gateway min. On index AJ SW1244 / 2244.

If all requirements are met, you have to code in the climate control unit STG08:
-> Activate byte 15, bit 5 ->
(alternatively via VCP TXT Coding -> Activate filtering, recirculating air!)

Then, if the AirCare is not displayed in the air conditioning control panel under SETUP - simply do a short bus rest!

None at all, but as it was a free mod I’m not bothered. I expect my lungs may feel the benefit if what VW say about what it does is true though.

Cheers! I often wondered what this did on some of the Octavias I saw so it's good you had all the bits and could make use of the system.

Guessing the filter you used was this like one - Mann Filter Freciousplus FP 26 009 Cabin Air Filter ?

Sounds like the system recirculates more air through this filter which has better filtering properties.  I have noticed that compared to the Mk2 Octavia I don't think the Mk3 selects the re-circulation mode when you use the washer jets or reverse....at least I don't think mine does since I can smell the washer fluid where I never could on the Mk2.

Yep the filter is a biofunctional one. I have the auto recirc on but I can’t tell how much it works.

I have the standard MIB 2 (retrofitted), is air care a change I can make? System is showing software 0245?

Unfortunately not, 03xx onward. It’s not worth changing parts for but it was a cool find for me as I already had all the hardware.

Did you do the adaptation to keep the aircare always on too? Otherwise, you will notice that the default is off if you check the climatronic when you next start the car.

Not yet. Not sure I want it always on but I do have the adaptation :)

If you could make the watch face into a png then yes, you could.

Any idea if the dongle draws power fr the battery 24/7? Or cuts off when you switch off the engine?

Great. I did it just in case it really works haha.

Powers off after 10 mins :)

Got almost everything for the power boot now, just waiting on TPS to supply the button panel for the dash and the blank for the tailgate trim as I no longer need a pull handle and I don’t have the warning buzzer but I am 99% sure it’s a park sensor one and I don’t really want to fit it anyway. I think I’ll try and make a start on this tomorrow, lay the wiring and see if I can test it, hopefully it’ll all work 🤞👩‍🔧👩‍🔧

Bonus of retro fit, I don't think factory comes with the Haribos!!!

Love the flooring
