Correction.. part number is 5Q0 035 842 B

Hi. My 2016 Fabia Radio went completely dead I changed the glove box unit with a second hand one. Got Component Protection removed at a Skoda dealer. Radio and most functions all ok, but Telephone not available message shows when selecting telephone. Part number is exactly same as old unit, 5Q0 035 842N. Any ideas on my best course of action ? Thanks.

@Graham Butcher I have a BEV & 2 ICE vehicles. I am no green warrior. I am just raging against the machine. Or being a rebel without a cause. We are where we are and the motor manufacturers are where they are. No matter how much there is mumping and moaning from those that have not and what not a BEV they will still be getting built and purchased. I doubt i will be driving in 5 years so really could not give a monkeys what the UK government does. I am only here for the banter and to read some of the crap posted. PS. Please show any post ever from me where i say or imply that BEV,s are the only way to clean things up. You are making up your own story there.

Today I learned... ... My Fabia has TWO off-side rear side light bulbs!!! 😒 Having nothing better to do today (well, nothing vitally important, anyway) I decided to check all the connectors to see if there were any loose wires or corrosion on the pins etc that might be causing extra resistance, since each light cluster was showing a working bulb. Thankfully I started on off-side rear, because, after removing the light cluster and separating the connector, I used a multimeter to check continuity. I looked at the different colours going to the bulbs and saw one that had black and brown wires, which I checked and they were OK. Then I happened to notice that there was another bulb with black and brown wires. I took that one out and, lo and behold, the bulb was blown!! I have no idea why I didn't spot this before when I was checking them, the only thing I can think of is that, having checked one (which was OK), I simply didn't consider the fact that there might be another one. Anyway, I replaced the blown bulb and, Huzzah!, I stopped getting the faulty light warning. So if anyone ever has this issue again and finds this thread, check BOTH bulbs...! 😳

You're doing a pretty fine job of misrepresenting what I'm saying. I never said that we are doomed or anything like it; this is you misunderstanding things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you do have an EV and also a BEV, so what is it with you? Having a foot in both camps rules you out from being a green warrior who never misses a chance to point out to anyone who will listen that BEV is the only way of cleaning up the environment and saving the planet. I have said that as an electrical engineer, I have a greater understanding of electricity than a lot of people, and by the same token, being an engineer, I don't suffer from a closed mindset. I remember one of the professors at college telling us all that it is only when you begin to learn something and you gain knowledge that you actually realise just how little we actually know. He went to explain just what he said actually meant, which was that the true engineer does not just accept what he has been told but wants to learn more about why something behaves in a particular fashion. What if we change the circumstances? How does that behave then and so on? This is how discoveries are made and modern inventions have evolved from true engineers. If no one questions the status quo, nothing changes, and that is why we are not all still walking, cycling or horse riding; someone thought differently and tried something. Anyway, back to the hydrogen topic, all I actually said was, "Well, that's a possibility, but that too has serious complications in its use, storage and can be extremely dangerous when things go wrong, plus it also consumes massive amounts of energy currently to produce it." All of which I said is 100% true; it does indeed offer great potential. For a start, it is extremely plentiful; it is the most plentiful element in the universe. It is currently the most difficult one to handle and control; being lighter than air, it has to be bonded to something else to keep it from floating away. Hence, water is the richest source of it. Its atoms are so small that they can escape through most materials, so it has to be stored either at extremely high pressures or at extremely low temperatures, both of which make it difficult to store and also consume more power to store it. It also demands tremendous amounts of power to separate from water, making it overall less efficient than other means of energy. However, once those problems have been resolved, it is a very clean energy source, as its byproduct is water. So to recap then, I never implied anything about its fire capability or that we are all doomed, merely pointing out that it is one possible solution, but it is not currently at a stage for mass adoption and is not without its own significant problems.

Even if the 12v battery seems fully charged it may be on its way out. Check its reading 12.5-12.8v if you havent already. Alasdair

On one of my old cars there was I think a non return valve which was gummed up. Hopefully its that simple. Alasdair

so update. new turbo fitted, car was showing p0544 egt sensor ,then showed p02458 regen not completed, now showing p02463 dpf . so the egt bank 1 sensor faulty which is causing fault codes p02458 and p02463. my question is dpf obviously has been shut down by ecu to protect turbo etc, once the new egt sensor is fitted will that enable the dpf regen again or will it need flushed out.

Hard to say, because when I click to SW update/version in long Menu hold, there is a warning it will update.. but I don’t want to confirm because if I don’t have anything in there it can maybe search for some update and get itself in to some sequence. Maybe it is somewhere in advanced ID in VCDS but I am not able to do it now

The mechanic is currently stumped as to why there’s excessive suction. You’d hope he’s checked the breather pipe but you never know. I’ll take it off and have a check myself.

Hi chaps, I have had no problems whatsoever with the software and maps update over the past year, the maps are a bit (about 5 years I should think) out of date though, so every now and then I find myself driving on a new piece of road whilst the SATNAV thinks I’m in a farmer’s field. I think the unit and software I have were the end of the line for my 2013 Superb, but it is worth asking the question: is there any way if further updating the maps without changing the entire unit (which I really don’t want to do… I like the motorcar the way it is)? Yeah I'd leave that to someone who knows what they're doing if it comes to repairing physical damage as opposed to ingrained dirt. Heat on interior materials (especially plastics) is something suggested on a lot of forums but its a short-term effect and in the longer term it'll look worse. Check out auto-recon ronnie on instagram - american bloke who's a wizard when it comes to repairing interior materials but he's been doing it since the dawn of time.

I'm swapping rears to fronts in perfectly workable condition. If I didn't, I'd end up with old cracked tyres at the rear after going through several sets of fronts, even on an AWD when the rears should be chiming-in on occasion. Always been the way except in a rwd 3-series. Whilst I don't disagree that traction at the front isn't essential, I don't think its the "essentialness" of grip in question; we're splitting hairs over when to swap tyres rather than re-educating ourselves away from running tyres bald. So personally, I'd still prefer to lose the front-end than the back. I'd also prefer that to happen if my wife is driving too because the first thing she'd do is lift off and I wouldn't blame her for that.

Hi all, I'm new here but did get some valuable info a few years ago about water ingress so thought I'd give you all another go. I've managed to snap the metal lever which opens the drivers door (well it is 20 years old so shouldn't really be surprised). Anyway, I've tried ebay, Amazon and whole variety of online breakers without success. If anybody can suggest another possible angle on this It'd be most appreciated.

I think a leak in air intake manifold would reduce suction in crank case but it could be a blocked breather pipe think goes from engine to PCV? I think there is a one way valve inline. Alasdair

^^^ Here we go again then Fire Danger. We will ignore the lack of reported issues where Hydrogen is already produced and used for Transportation on land and at sea. So lets do nothing then. Stay as we were. Waiting for the new technology. In less than 6 posts we are back at being doomed! PS. Have you notices @Graham Butcher how much wasted electricity generation there is now in the UK as not enough storage or transmission capacity and even though Wind & Solar in Scotland can produce many times more electricity than the National Grid wants or can handle? The BEV,s used as a means of Storage for excess production is getting no place fast. Have you noticed the cost of liquid and gas fuels due to matters around the world? Hydrogen Hubs for Low Carbon Transport are still being planned around Scotland.

Here we go again after many false starts. Easily generated electricity used to produce hydrogen and off we go with zero tail pipe emissions.

Some closure for anyone who read this thread and wonder what the problem was. I took the car to a mechanic and it turns out the LIN wire had been damaged somehow and ultimately broke off (see pic). No other cable was damaged and neither was the harness sleeve, so I guess the wire was damaged from the factory (but not enough to completely loose the connection) and then after a couple of years of vibrations and temperature cycles it came off. So most likely bad QC at Skoda unfortunately. Not sure how I could measure activity on the LIN bus leading up to this, maybe the wire got a connection when I was holding it up and didnt tear off completely until the mechanic opened up the harness. Anyhow, the AC is back up and running and my wallet is a tad thinner.

Blue sky thinking out of the box, maybe while taking psychoactive drugs. Lets hurry up and develop these nuclear powered vehicles & until then ban all cars for personal use. No point rushing into things.

Good shout. It has just had a service and MOT as it happens so maybe connected to that…
