Out of the driveway! Drives okay, ABS issue I had is gone but there's a new one. Sounds like the pump running for a bit, then stopping, then running. But brakes work well.
  3. Picked this up last week; 2017 TDI, meteor grey with black pack plus & pan roof. Fantastic car!

I forget what car it was on, but the only time I tried that I ended up just tearing the oil filter into two pieces as I turned the screwdriver, with the stuck end still stuck! Can't remember how I resolved it either.
  5. It's possible, but as I say it's not something I'm aware of, nor can I see any obvious mentions online from other Skoda owners. I think there is a coolant temperature warning though

At the end of the day all that matters is that it comes loose. Not how. Though the easy way with minimal chance of permanent damage is preferable. But if you have to call your local black magic witch doctor and sacrifice some goats to get it done... You gotta do what you gotta do.

Cheers to whoever told me to undo the oil can with a screwdriver and a hammer
  8. Not much experience in 4X4s but what I have noticed here in Germany is a lot of people use either a Lada Niva or a Suzuki Jimny as a 'Winterdienst' car; they whack a plough on the front and make a few bob clearing snow/ pulling idiots out of ditches. Capable and rugged yet basic tugs by the look of things. Mum had a Grand Vitara V6 and it absolutely drank fuel; filled it twice on the way from Bridport in Dorset to Largs near Glasgow.
  9. Two from the inside and one from Transalpina, one from Transfagarasan / Transilvania / Romania
  10. 4 pots and 345 mm disks officially installed. Shout out to Freakyparts. And now...
  11. Yesterday I started a thread in this section describing how I had cleaned the throttle valve and inlet manifold tract to remove the soot crud that had built up from the EGR gases, I said that it seemed to run a lot better with more go and I hoped there would be a decrease in fuel consumption as it had always been a dissapointment to me. Tonight I did the 2 x 10 mile return trip to the running club, a trip I do 3 times a week always on empty roads & at the same speeds & always getting the same (indicated) fuel consumption of 45 mpg, tonight it was 53.6 mpg a 19% improvement in fuel economy, even compared to the overall figure on the Maxidot of 47 mpg it is a 14% improvement. I will see what the brim to brim MPG figure is on the next few tank fill ups to see what the overall improvement is but am very pleased with a job which was rewarding to do and cost nothing.
  12. I replied to your other identical question here:
  13. Assuming you have a MK2 Octavia, this guide might help:
  14. I hope so! Reviews look good and they were a sensible price.
  15. @theandywaite Sounds like a familiar story, so frustrafrustrating read the whole tale when I have more time as I imagine its an interesting read! I also thought about paying for it myself and going to war with them but I instead decided I would voluntary terminate the car at Christmas and find something else if it didn't get fixed. I will be looking for some compensation from skoda to cover my costs, the last outing cost me around 60 quid in fuel and 2 half days of leave from work. Never mind the other visits! The irony is that I buy new in the hope of having as few problems as possible and everything being covered. My last VRS gave me no issues and went into the dealer for servicing only. This one has been more trouble. I was asked by the workshop manager on my first visit to dumfries if I had ever misfueled it. The car had done less than 6k miles at this point, probably nearer 4 or 5k. Im the first owner and I know I havent done that! He told me that Skoda are awful for paying out, he has since left and his replacement told me the same thing. He said he had worked for a few franchises and skoda were the worst for it by far. The dealer I went to had hyundai and a few others and he said they were better for warranty. Its not a good plan for a manufacturer with a growing reputation (and a very bad one behind them) to start making the customer service experience so bad. They are asking silly money for the new model which would be enough to put lots of people off, Im a fan (or was) of skoda and its enough to make me think Skoda arent worth the hassle anymore. Lots of talk on the VRS groups about how thin the dealer network is getting and how bad the service can be. Not good all round. Its a shame as I like my car aswell. It will be serviced for free on my plan in January with around 11k on it and then I'll be looking at my options again I think.
  16. Exactly that Yes, as long as the Octavia has the bigger boot handle I don’t quote to supply only unfortunately, there would be no money in it for me so if you want a handle with washer you will need an OEM one for which I recommend vwmodul.de direct or via eBay.
  17. Hi Rob, Is the brake system holding pressure with the the engine running?. I would be inclined to jack up each corner in turn, drop it onto an axle stand, start the car and then get someone to bury the brake pedal while you check for any seepage. The abs system runs at a fairly consistent pressure, and as such, will put more load on the line connectors than just trying the system with the engine off. Also, being an older design, and more of a pioneering ABS system, there is more potential for small air locks than a more modern system due to pipe run designs not being as well thought out as they are today. All that being said, I would still have one in a heartbeat.
  18. If you squint, it looks like a Rav4 : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-patrol/254718637846?hash=item3b4e69f716:g:jnMAAOSwbVNfVhg7
  19. I thought the hill hold is standard - my Octavia 3 has it (with manual handbrake)
  20. The workshop manual for the 1.5TSI is given in the first post here However it states that a special tool is required to remove the filter. Also note that the owner's manual states on page 196 (for the 2020/05 issue) 'Have the oil changed by a specialist garage.' If yours is a new car (rather than just new to you) then you would seem to be at risk of invalidating the warranty by doing it yourself.
  21. Sorry, no. One person's "Must Have" is another person's "Junk". ps - primer grey is not a colour
  22. Download the SkodaConnect app, it’s got the manual on it. I had to check the manual to change the wipers! It says in the manual to hold the set button and within 10 seconds press the memory button. It isn’t clear whether you hold the set button and the memory button together; or press and hold set, let go, then press the memory button.
  23. A 1.6tdi🤔 Thrashed🤣🤣🤣 As for air lift on a diesel😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
  24. I noted that I got the reels of wire from "Vehicle Wiring Products LTD" and the Micro Timer 2 contact pins etc from "3waycomponents" via ebay.
  25. I hope that CD player has autoreverse, as all the best system had in that era
  26. I had a friend with a swb 3.2 Shogun (had the commercial version with no back windows) and as I remember I think it had not only a centre diff lock, but also a rear axel one as well (optional extra?). We went out in it during a blizzard up in the Pennines where we were staying. Fantastic snow vehicle that's for sure. Ploughing through drifts and very deep snow not even an issue. Nigh on unstoppable with all the 'lockers' on and the engine was just a big soft bungee connected to the horizon
  27. If u do have TJA, the car will continue to do adaptive lane guidance even below 65 km/h, all the way down to stop and go, with ACC. If u don't have TJA, when u drop below 65 km/h, the lane assist will cease to function. ACC will continue to work though, down to stop and go.
  28. I also found a photo where an 8K unit was mounted in Fabia 3/Rapid - it reports an error in the back
  29. You have to work a bit blind but as I am a bit blind I find that quite easy! Doing the job a second time would be easier because you know what is where and what the fastener head sizes are. If you remove the U shaped intake trunk from the air filter to the snorkelling box on the bonnet slam panel it gives much more room. 10 minutes to remove the throttle valve approx, disconnect connector, slacken hose clamps, remove bolt holding disptick bracket then 3 bolts holding assembly to manifold (might have been 4)
  30. Over the years our Yeti 110 diesel has been coming up with the dreaded orange heating coil icon and have kept on clearing it down over the years. Stopped the Mrs from using Supermarket diesel fuel from Sainsburys and filled her car to the top with Shell V Power. Surprisingly since we have been using the Shell fuel the EGR light and onto limp mode has not come on over 8 months of daily driving to work and back. On holiday we could not find the more expensive fuel and filled up at Tesco's and coming home surprise surprise the little light came on and then limp mode. Mrs turned off the ignition and waited a couple of minutes then turned on the ignition back on and manged to get back home ok. Once home filled the tank right up with Shell and back to a clean running engine and no problems again? Filling up with supermarket diesel fuel has convinced me there is a big difference and we manage 56mpg with Shell instead of 50mpg from the cheaper stuff. Have now knocked up 134,000 miles so it is a real effect. I am now looking at the Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI as another car.
  31. Reliability is pot luck. You can have a standard car that is a total nightmare and faults all the time. Then have a modified car that doesnt miss a beat. There will always be a risk when modifying anything on the car as you are taking it out of its normal running parameters. The only bit of advice I can give is to make sure you go to a reputable tuner who has a map that is tried and tested and not just the cheapest one. Any tuner worth their salt will give your car a health check to ensure it is suitable for a map before uploading the map.
  32. I take it the Blaupunkt is a modern unit with a retro look? I've just got a replacement headunit for my 1995 MX5 but managed to find a working original Clarion CRX87RM from a Fiat for £7 but just need to change over the front panel as it's Fiat Branded - no DAB, Media or Bluetooth but at least it works with the CD multichanger... ;-)
  33. Ah, some people are using VW Group model platform designations like 8K to mean 8 channel, not good, a bit misleading, I'm glad that you have bought a suitable one, ie a 5Q version as long as it is only looking for 3 rear sensors! Edit:- one completely insignificant comment, Audi offer I think 3 different colours of sensor seal - ie you can pick one that best suits the car's body colour, I think BLACK and WHITE and NEUTRAL, my wife's VW Polo is silver and VW, like Skoda only offer a single colour - BLACK!
  34. Yes, I can see that, cus I drive about 70 miles everyday. The car drives very light and fast now. The cooler temperature reaches 90• only in 7 minutes drive.(temperature outside 13•) oil temperature reaches 90• in 13 minutes drive. Fan rests a bit now unless it’s for dpf. Than you
  35. @nidza That is true. To compensate the dual mass flywheel and it´s vibration damping, this particular Performance clutch kit contains a clutch disc with torsion springs that function as vibration damper between engine and gearbox. Due to reduction of mass and more rigid connection a stronger transfer of transmission noise can and does occur (only when idle). It seems this SMF (kit) is not completely left without vibration dumper function / gear / crankshaft protection? I am an engineer of technology, subspeciality chemical production & pharmaceutical engineering, not ideal for this topic, but close
  36. If it is a pre-FL variant Superb, It may or may not have the revised engine. See the Skoda press-release. All really depends when your 'new' car was built in 2019. https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-kits/skoda-superb-press-kit/engines-premiere-of-the-first-evo-generation-diesel-engine/ You wlll probably have a DQ381 7 speed DSG gearbox and a Columbus MIB2.5 system.
  37. nothing too special just a cheap rubber lip attatched to the bottom, still plenty of clearance, there are some proper, composite or fake carbon ones that look a lot nicer but didn't want to spend a lot and to be honest personally i think it works subtle enough not to look garish but adds to the black grill and pillars/mirrors that are standard with the car.
  38. Car came back from the shop today after being de-chromed, man it was a big piece of work. Originally it was all to be wrapped, but the only things that are wrapped now are the chrome bits around the windows. The grill is actually connected to the front end, so the bumper had to be taken off and then the grill dismantled individually. The roof rails are bolted in underneath the liner, to access it you would have to bring down the whole liner which is a bit of a pain nowadays apparently. So they ended up being sprayed with the griThell surround. Middle pic is obviously pre dechrome, I think it's comeback really well. The last bit to complete the look is the badges and lettering to be blacked
  39. If it's any help here's a direct link to the equivalent VW download of the map. It's packaged in the 7zip format so you will need 7zip compatible software to extract it. I use Winrar myself: https://vw-maps-cdn.lighthouselabs.eu/vw-maps/P88_N60S5MIBH3_ROW_NT.7z
  40. I have a set of 18” wheels here at the minute waiting for winter tyres to arrive. The winters have quite a low dB rating, so I’ll know better from my own experience at that point with this car. But from other people’s cars I’ve been in, and other cars I’ve driven that Weren’t my own, they all just seem to be that bit noisier than you would expect over certain types of surfaces. My personal opinion would be a bit more sound insulation would transform the car rather than tyre choice for the most part. Obviously the tyres Will play their part to a degree as well. It’s just going to depend on your expectation as to how much of a difference they make. I’d only change them for a different tyre once the ones you have wear out.
  41. 1 point
They look the part. I’ll probably give it a couple of months. No doubt the wife will wreck them like my transporter wheels I had. Smashed to bits. ( wheels not wife).
  42. Skoda Octavia mk3 Black Edition 1.6tdi with faultless 155k miles and counting 😁
  43. Honestly you shouldn't make a big purchase without seeing and driving. Now we did late last year put a deposit on a car without having seen it. But we knew exactly what we wanted (the JCW countryman) and there were very few in the UK at that time. Also this was an ex-demo car with very low miles and a verbal guarantee that the car was mint inside and out (it was) We still drove it before signing. any other used car, I just think it's too much of a risk.
  44. Just an update for anyone who cares to know more. A day after the above post the check engine light came on and after being told it was an exhaust sensor and having that replaced by the dealer the same issue occurred, the car has been back with the dealer and has now been diagnosed with a faulty camshift actuator (hence the check engine light). Apparently as this has an effect on the timing of the motor the ACC and Start Stop Systems can't work effectively hence the error. Searching around this seems to be quite common on the EA888 Engine. I now feel comfortable that the real error has been detected and fixed.
  45. Just a little note to thank all for their input. Some very helpful thoughts. In the end I have secured a 272 Sportline fully loaded. About 11 months old. Should have it in Ireland by the end of next week. Very excited. Once its here I'll post some pics.
  46. Apologies if this isn’t the right place to post, I just thought I’d share the results of the eBay £30 LED sequential mirror indicators. ive been looking a king time for some of these and even posted on here asking around for them. Well fellow people I found them and here’s the results...
  47. yeah I would 100% change it then I try to do mine every 2 -3 years yeah there's aezibleed kit I used, it's fairly straight forward make sure you don't get any air in the ABS pump or you'll need vag com etc to correct. also don't get any on paintwork
  48. hello I'm from TAIWAN!! nice to be here!!
