  1. And so here we are, just over a year later and things start to move again....there are plans afoot. The game is back on.
  2. I am nearing the 2 year ownership mark soon with my Sportline 272 and this car has surprised me more than any other before it. Not sure if it was the fact I had low expectations from a "heavy family Skoda" (even though I had another Skoda some years back) or if it is really that good as a package but I definitely can't make up my mind on where to go next, meaning to either a different car or a different state of tuning/performance with this one. Needless to say it has excelled at the daily family duties although I am not the most demanding user in that aspect, not much cargo carrying, no dogs, no towing, no off-roading, just the typical urban family drives and activities that I'm involved in. I've only once needed all of the boot space also, it is mostly empty. In terms of options and comfort it's packed with everything I could tick off and I only now appreciate the amount of luxuries it offers when I look at other potential purchases and I am repeatedly shocked at the features and equipment I see missing (in some cases not even available as an option). Virtual cockpit, RGB ambient lighting all around, electric seats, remote heating, electronic boot with touchless opening/closing, adaptive cruise control with lane guidance just some of the examples I appreciate every day but the list could go on for a few pages. The only cars that come close it in terms of equipment would be latest models from 5 series, A6 and E-Class if, on a full spec. Performance wise it's a car that with just a remap and an intake is hitting 60mph in 3.8" and the 1/4 mile at 12.2" and with some basic suspension mods (lightweight wheels, firmer rear arb, springs) is now able to corner decently. The DCC definitely helps in that although I crave more in that department as I've always enjoyed sharp cars. My single "issue" so to speak is that it lacks a distinct sporty character. As I said it has considerably improved since stock, and most people are hugely impressed by it when taken for a drive, but the best way to put it is that it feels much more like a capable family car/cruiser that can accelerate and corner much better than expected, rather than a true sports saloon that can also do the family stuff all-right (get the difference?) So apparently there's two ways I could go forward: a) Stick with it and continue to improve it: Next things would have to be uprated dampers or coilovers and bigger brakes and further stage 2 tuning. Estimated cost around 4-5K EUR but i still would not be able to address everything I'd like to. b) Switch to something sportier from factory which I would only touch in terms of a stage 1 remap and (maybe) springs if it sat too high although I'd rather avoid that. That "something" would have to be inherently more playful and able to handle a few hot laps (not racing) around a track in stock form without worrying how to return home and be more involving due to its drivetrain setup. For option b) the logical choices are 335i/M340i, C43 estate, Golf R / Cupra estate, (no Audi below an RS4 would be a real upgrade in terms of driving so that's ruled out) According to current market prices in Sweden I could get decent money for a 2019 car with my low mileage and equipment so it makes option B tempting. The problem is I find issues with almost all cars I've shortlisted: F30/31 335i/340i - gorgeous on the outside, pretty dated and dull on the inside, I'd honestly take the Superb's cabin with a digital cockpit any day (wife agrees to that too) G20/21 340i - Lovely car overall, not yet in the price range I'd ideally like to remain though C43 - love the exterior, interior not so much. Better than the F30 but something in that main screen and analog speedos from 2017-18 is not looking so great for an upgrade I've also got a "fear" against the premium German brands in that they attract all sorts of unwanted attention that I'd rather not be associated with. 7.5 Golf R - Essentially same car but with slightly firmer suspension, yet the overall behaviour would remain the same Cupra estate - as above Now there is a car which looks very promising: The Mk8 Golf R unveiled yesterday (in estate form, not shown yet): Finally, an e-diff at the front and a proper torque vectoring system at the rear (forget Drift modes) similar to a Focus RS and A45S sounds is if it has all the ingredients to be a great driver's car apart from just a great all-rounder (but rather average in driving) that the 7.5was. Not crazy about its looks but if it is as good as I expect it I could probably live with it, will go on order later this month. And after all that, I go back to my car to drive off and still think it's a really beautiful design that is also doing stuff I would not think it would be possible to do/get from in a Skoda a few years back. Let your views roll...
  3. Does the 1.5 not have the dry clutch DSG which would make the 2.0 the best choice. edit: beaten to it by MarkyG82
  4. I wasn't quite happy with how the car sat on her wheels and the rear coils were rusty. I bought new KW rear coils and installed them and adjusted the height as I like it Didn't washed it for more than a month so took the time to clean it last day. Also tinted my rear lights and fog/DRL lights. Quite happy with how it came out. Bought a VW Polo GTI rear axle with brake disks, so will install them asap
  5. Oh, and the fish n chips I had..

    It alive and well 😍
  7. Had a Westfalia detachable tow bar fitted yesterday, drove 40 miles to North West Towbars in Stockport as they have great recommendation from other Yeti owners. I went for the dedicated wiring kit, making it a £600 purchase!! Sadly that meant passing 3 hrs walking around Stockport town centre whilst i waited!! But at least I found a sit down fish n chip restaurant to pass away some of the time Pleased with the installation though, and the tow bar fits neatly into the storage compartment in the boot.
  8. Hi, welcome to the forum, important to know that because of the energy recuperation system under "coasting" conditions, the battery monitoring module will normally allow the battery to charge to approx. 75% with the alternator - allowing spare capacity in the battery for charging under energy recuperation mode. Combine this with relatively low mileages and you can soon reach the point where engine idle auto-stop will cease to operate. Investing in a smart charger can be a good idea to keep the battery in better condition.
  9. These 272 folk are very much like Trump insisting that we stop counting 'cos 272 is enough to win 😁
  10. Little bit of engine bay tidying up, thanks to @CoverdaleCP for the part and top service 👍 Before & after
  11. Are you buying on PCP and will give it back in 3 years? If so then forget the DPF and the residual value issue and buy what you want. If you plan to keep long term then maybe the Petrol ...

This would be in older models with R134A gas. R1234YF gas from 1st Jan 2017 is 2-3 times more expensive.

Hey there! I have the 1.5 TSI manual with optional sports suspension and 18" wheels. I ordered it simply for the looks and that's what I got. It's not really stiff and it doesn't give great handling that you could expect from a similarly priced aftermarket set of springs (e. g. Eibach). To be honest, compared to the standard suspension which I tried on the demo vehicle, the difference in driving feel is not that big. It doesn't bounce, it doesn't crash when going through potholes and it's still better than the standard suspension which I had on my 2015 Octavia MK3. Would I order it again? No, because a set of Eibach's would probably drop the car a little lower and it would look and handle better. Would I order it again if there would be no aftermarket alternatives? Definitely yes, because the standard suspension looks horrible This is how it looks:
  14. Slight change of plan for the moment. This engine will now be going elsewhere and the 2.0 will be staying where it is for a bit longer. I'm pretty excited about where it is going though and some new plans being hatched. Watch this space, or rather watch this space... Remember this old thing?
  15. don't listen to those 280 folks - they got too much exhaust gases inside their heads and they flap too much :P
  16. Change the key fob battery - then there's a sporting chance the warning will go.
  17. Welcome to the forum Beast :-) We are a friendly lot here ... Well the 280 owners are... 272 Owners suffer a bit from Exhaust Flap envy but they are ok... Rest of em .... Pah ...
  18. I have just found this from another forum for my car, so looked and found free pdf manuals for Fabia mk3. https://cardiagn.com/skoda-fabia-mk3-2015-2019-2020-workshop-manuals-wiring-diagrams/ If they don't work, please check your browser setting to enable all cookies. You will probably need to go through the CAPCHA system (clicking on pics) to finally access them.
  19. Hello. My loved green Greenline estate is starting to show its age. So i decided to do some mods to it to make it more comfortable to drive and less cumbersome to use. The microswitch on the driver side, rear wiper motor, two of the speakers have all stoped working so its about time to freshen it up and give it an overhaul. I decided to start with the doors, lube up the lockingmechanisms and install sound deadening material while i was changing the speakers for new ones. I also added sound treatment to the bonnet. Now im on the fence if i should change the entire interior with the interior loom so i could get MFSW, MaxiDOT, fancy aircon and rear electric windows. Theres a cheap Fabia Elegance near where i live and i could do a full interior transplant, think it would be to challaning to do or worth it at all? Any other improvements or comforts anyone can think of that i should do while im going over the car?
  20. I got a lovely automated impersonal mail-merge generated email today saying "a service" is due on my car. Given that they no longer supply cars with service books and details of what needs doing when, I much prefer asking strangers on the Internet for advice as to what service the dealership is talking about, rather than actually speak to someone on the phone The car is 21 months old and has only done 9500 miles, 150 of which are from its first 6 months sitting at the dealers before I got it. It's on variable servicing, with the car telling me the next oil service is due in 5800 miles, and the next inspection service in 9400 miles. So what's your money on for what the garage thinks is due? Aircon? Brakes? Random-stuff-we-make-up-to-claw-money-from-you?
  21. Not convinced here in Northern Ireland has the infrastructure for electric yet. I’m not ready either lol
  22. 1 point
I'm not sure - the car came straight off the boat to New Zealand from Europe and I dont know if anything is changed.. Its the same engine so I assume its same or very close.
  23. Battery charging is always done by the alternator. The difference is about what drives the alternator: extra fuel, gravity (going downhill) or inertia (at deceleration). The last two are free, of course.
  24. Satisfied? Not really, when you use a term such as "lets be clear" its stating something to be a fact in a very authorative manner and others will take it is so, which is why I asked the question. So not an injector but injection & the DPF has its own "vaporiser", are you stating that as a fact? I am happy to be corrected and learn, for I am learning every day, but my the VAG self study guide on DPF systems concurs with the following published information by David Bodily VW Technical Support Specialist - "Specific measures are taken by the engine ECU to raise the exhaust temperature to above 600°c, these include switching off the exhaust gas recirculation and increasing the fuel injection period to include a small injection after the main injection" Commonly known as "post combustion" injection and carried out by the cylinder injectors and not a dedicated DPF injector or vaporiser.
  25. So to sum up, the chances of me finding a used 230 FL with the Vaq diff is probably less than winning the euro on friday night
  26. I'll chuck this in before the debate starts: The dsg on the 1.5 is the dry clutch DQ200 and has the potential to be not as reliable as the wet clutch DQ250 as in the larger engine car. It would be worth you doing some research into the 2 types of dsg to understand what to expect. That being seaid there have been many reliable dry clutch boxes particularly the newer ones.
  27. This is what I ordered. https://www.mlperformance.co.uk/products/kw-vw-skoda-3v5-3g5-ddc-plug-play-coilovers-inox-superb-iii-estate-passat-variant?_pos=1&_sid=298460b53&_ss=r I guess the part number is 39080041 Will do! Did you consider the ABT box instead of the JB4? It looks like they will provide a warranty...

Welcome. Just call / email other Main Dealerships in your area or as far as you are prepared to travel. Or find out about purchasing the parts and have VW Independent or maybe a Mobility / Vehicle Conversion Specialist fit it.
  29. Yup, there are some 1520/V13 files up for the MIB2 Amundsen as mentioned in another thread:

Several owners thought a catch can would be the "cure" for the 'alleged carbon problem' on my previous car (Audi B7 RS4) but all were disappointed with how little oil appeared in the catch can. BTW I say 'alleged carbon problem' because in all cases that reported back to owners websites the loss of power was traced to vacuum leaks, and when I sold mine after 10 years with 88,000 miles on the clock it had just been on a respected dyno and was still making over manufacturers spec bhp.
  31. Excellent result from the looks of if!
  32. @k.young Hi, I also drive a TDI190. To me, this should not be a turbo (or its actuator indeed) issue, since this would raise a fault code. The EGR valves is probably not frozen (otherwise, it would also raise a fault code too). But it may be partially 'clogged' or dirty. Just a question: Do you some time press the throttle pedal generously to 'clean' the whole exhaust line (incl. EGR valve)? Upon warm engine, make frank accelerations in low gears to get rid of soot around EGR valve.
  33. Impressive! You must have really long lunch breaks.
  34. It actually failed but only on the headlights. Everything else it passed with flying colours, even the stiff seatbelts. Apparently when the headlights were adjusted they were set when they were in the lowest setting on the dial so when they were raised for the test they were way too high! I checked them but I thought since they were level they were fine, I never adjusted them because they were level when I got the car. No wonder I keep getting flashed! I have it booked for a retest in a week but I'll have it fixed by then.
  35. Did this the other day, Noticed the piece where the numbers are was looking very dull to I decided to take a gamble, pop off the cap and polish it with a compound. That took away some of the dullness and I then polished it to give it a deep shine. After that I used an old primer grey touch up pen and filled in the numbers, waited and hour for the paint to harden up a bit and then got some petrol on a rag and wiped off the excess. Finally I polished the chrome ring on the knob and put back on the cap. The pictures dont quite show the difference but in person its night and day, and it cost me nothing since I had everything there.
  36. Don't listen to any of those 280 owners, They're all a gear short!! Welcome, Thats a nice looking big bus you've bought.

Not 100% true, what matters is the TYRE diameter. If you increase the wheel diameter but fit lower profile tyres so that the tyre diameter is the same then the speedo calibration will not need to change. As an example - a previous car I owned came with 14" wheels (don't laugh!) and 155/65 tyres but in the summer I fitted 16" wheels with 195/40 tyres - this changed the overall diameter by 0.95% so at 70mph the speedo read 70.95 mph.
  38. Nothing since September? Might as well break the dry spell. Quick wash on my lunch break as the weather improved (perk of working from home!) Chemical Guys Bug+Tar Remover CarPlan No 1 Super Clean Shampoo Two bucket wash with microfiber mitt Rinse Dry with microfiber towel DemonShine Spray on Shine RainX on windows DemonShine Super Wheel Cleaner Simoinz Wet look Tyre shine Next time I wash it I'll add a layer of Carnauba Wax ready for the winter months.

All rear end shunts were in the UK, the last one while I was French resident, always claimed successfully from 3rd party insurers, no loading of my premiums, I retained the salvage and made money from the repairs although would rather have avoided the situations. Tailgating never a problem on the autoroutes, its in hick areas like mine where people want to push the car in front to go faster rather than overtake, driving standards en campagne are deplorable, pretty much every journey you will see another wrecked car in a filed having rolled multiple times, a dead straight road with no side turnings, no other vehicles involved, loads and loads of drunken drivers. Get on the périphérique de Paris and you will see a very high standard of driving and lane discipline, very cut & thrust and no-one is hanging around. Parking in Paris & large cities is another matter entirely, people park bumper to bumper actually touching & will have caused dents & scratches each time, when the plates were pressed steel they would look like something on a dodgem car, nobody uses their handbrake when parking like that, when someone needs to extract their vehicle they just push the line of cars ahead or behind, or both until there is enough space to get out. I drove to the Monaco Grand Prix in 2004 in a split screen camper, we camped in the street and it was constantly being shunted by people parking or wanting to extract their vehicles, at the traffic lights on the steep hills we noticed that people were stopping touching the bumper of the car in front (we kept getting shunted again) and soon found out why, nobody could do a hillstart with the handbrake, they would release it and roll back into the car behind before engaging the clutch. We would leave a normal gap and the car in front would roll back gathering speed and ram us the bedbug had super solid bumpers and they would damage their vehicle and tell me it was my fault for not being close behind them or touching!
  44. Most SUVs don't have the luggage volume of a 'proper' estate either. I'm often baffled by the lack of space in some of the monstrosities! If you want space and style, I'd put up Skoda Superb Estate against most SUVs.
