  4. Having dealt with james and francesca from the Rochdale branch at the begining of the month i can honestly say that this young man knows his stuff and cares,he sorted my couple of issues perfectly and knew from a human being point of view what i required, not perhaps what skoda would want but due to his knowledge and great customer service i would whole heartedly reccommend this particular branch for service.Very rare to find this level of friendly service these days and the very reason i moved from the 4 rings back to skoda.Keep it going james your a genuine guy
  5. If you want a brutally honest opinion then I'd save your money and not bother with a cone filter for the TDI engine. It will yield little if any performance gains on a diesel and probably cause heat soak which could negatively impact performance. From what I've encountered in the past the biggest restriction on the MQB intake system is the front intake behind the grille. For the money and the possibility of 'some' minor gains you'd be better off with the diesel version of the "pikey r600" mod consisting of: -snow grill removed from the air box -decent panel filter -intake blanking plate -modified intake panel (holes dremelled out) If you're purely after the intake noise then a cone filter might provide you with just that. I'd have a look at darkside developments website. FYI on my TDI I've been down the route of: Panel filter Cone filter Pikey r600 The pikey r600 is the one that I've stuck with.
  6. Instead of feeling guilty you should've called oldstan who seems to have a sideline as a sort-of humane killer of rodents. I have a vision in my head of him dressed as Thor in gleaming armour and a large red cape, carrying a large hammer, and dispatching little furry creatures by throwing it at them. On second thoughts though, if the mouse is living inside the Yeti, probably best not call him. The bodyshop work to clean the gore and repair the large dent might be a tad difficult to explain on the insurance claim.

  9. Hi all, I've been kicking this around for a while, forgot to update you. 🤔. TL;DR; I'm aiming to offset our communities impact on the planet at https://ecologi.com/briskoda To that end, I personally do stuff, but I'm looking at the community, our impact, principally in delivering the community to you. I invite you to read on for yourself too. I had a few options, like a co2 neutral data center etc... That maywell happen when I can find one I think is a good match. In the short term though, I'm planting trees and buying co2 offset on behalf the forum. Which is essentially guesstimating how many tonnes of CO2 we burn for the servers/laptops to provide the forum. I've hooked up with Ecologi , if you signup to offset your personal CO2/trees, the planet gets bonus trees. CO2 The co2 is fairly easy, I'm covering it in excess this year. I'm also lumping in any miles I do for briskoda, which is nada so far this year. The assumption for our servers/network is roughly 430kWh per month in electricity. There is more in the whole chain, but it's almost impossible to calculate. This is about 754 miles driving for an average family car, or 300 ish kgs of CO2. I can only offset in tonnes, and the minimum is two tonnes. So this is easy, we're offsetting 2 tonnes per month. This I believe covers the pico/milliseconds of energy use over the millions of devices brisky data passes over to reach your eyes. Trees Trees, quite a few need to be planted for all the paper we've all used over the years. So inline with the overall goal of 1%, this roughly equates to 100 trees on top of the CO2 offset per month. Your own tree Each month from April 2021 we'll 'gift' a tree to a member. These are trees in the uk, with a what three word reference. You can save that and watch it grow from space I guess... in theory you can even go and give it a hug. Each month from the contributors to this topic/purchasers of tree clumps via our shop, all become eligible for each month. So buy once, your in the pot till I get bored, or the whole planet is a forest, in which case I'll be long gone, and so will you, mother nature 1, human 0. Month Winner April 2021 TBD The Future? There are some personal goals, I have quite a polluting hobby, driving lots of miles to climb a bit of rock. I'll be covering those of personally. Looking forwards for the community, there is much I think I can and we can do. I'm going to sit down one day and try to figure out the total since 2002... bit of fag packet maths required and it will have to be an overestimation too, especially for the miles driven for briskoda fun and business. So here's where your input comes in , thanks for reading this far too. Before I go much further, any other suggestions or schemes, maybe closer to home? I did email a few uk projects but no response, or not deep enough pockets, which brought my sad face on. If you want to add a tree or too, you can. Either under your own account, or add to the briskoda plantation/co2. : https://ecologi.com/briskoda and finally, they do have a uk tree planting scheme... which is what I was waiting for, although a tree is a tree. Thoughts? Each month I' also purchasing a UK tree planting slot. These are given initially to tree planters and other special awards. When exhausted or a spare slot, they will be awarded to a random member of freedom each month. 10. Coolant pump failure. Have a google of "VWG EA288 coolant pump failure"
  11. With that engine and gearbox combination you're looking at something like this: -an oil change every year or 15000km (9400miles ish) -pollen filter every 2 years -plugs every 40k miles (a must) -air filter every 60k miles (I'd do it with the plugs to be honest) -no fuel filter on the majority of MQB vehicles these days -brake fluid after the third year then every two years thereafter -air con every two years The DSG oil is 40k miles. The fixed price on this service (for god knows what reason) doesn't include a filter!?! Worth having it done with a dealer for support further down the line. The main cost is the parts. The labour cost is minimal. If you have an active front differential then the oil is due every 3 years. If you have all wheel drive then the haldex is due at 3 years, personally I believe it should be every 25k miles but VWG have decided that it's now going off age 🤷🏼‍♂️
  12. Don't bother with a cone filter, all it will do is soak up the heat. Stick with OEM box and do the cheap mods mentioned by James above. AKS provide the blanking plate for around £16. Brakes; look at Clubsport Gti setup or something from the VAG parts bin. But I think its best to be careful on not over doing the braking balance. Golf GTi PP setup maybe... Exhaust, you're limited by the DPF so really it is pointless doing much with the exhaust system other than a catback and it won't sound all that good. Best thing to do is remap, and work on handling mods such as rear ARB, lighter control arms. Check out AKS tuning, Darkside Dev or Awesome GTi.

  17. 24k hit on Friday outside the office. Long term average according to Spritmonitor is now 5.97. If I do the office run and nothing else, I hit around 5.0 on the actual run, and the Webasto brings me up to 5.3 or so. That is with ambients at around 0C, moist or wet roads and 100/80km/h limits - this should be close to optimal for consumption with my driving profile. 5.0l/100 is around 12 miles per liter so 56mpg. I note with interest the rear wiper working automatically occasionally when the fronts are on.
  18. The vast majority of the time an independent will be cheaper than a dealer, I've seen some instances where that isn't the case. The argument might point towards quality of workmanship, "an independent garage might produce a higher standard of work" you might say. I've seen stark levels of incompetence and terribly bad practice performed by private garages, then again I've seen things go on in dealers that have made my **** boil. The best technicians I've had the pleasure of working with over the years have all been from a dealer background, it's the people who don't let the corporate crap turn them into a droid, who don't believe in bonus schemes and time save incentives. They just do the job correctly and often suffer financially as a result. At the end of the day, in 2020 a decent vehicle repairer is difficult to come by. Even more difficult to come by is your hard-earned cash. If you value the virtual skoda service book stamp and a strong fighting point for brand support should you suffer a serious issue outside the warranty period then the dealer is for you. Give them a call and have a chat with them. You might just get through to a real person who's happy to price match another garage or to knock a few quid off to win your custom? Or a good independent might be your preferred choice. There's some excellent garages out there that generally give a damn and have their own plus points for choosing them. Sadly I have no choice but to maintain my own fleet 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣
  19. Lego is the champion's choice 👌
  20. That wasn't the call centre... that was a guy in Multi-media support who'd been asked by my previous contact to see how I was doing. I think he's wishing he had asked more questions about the problems before phoning me now! Chris
  21. Just had a phone back from a new Skoda UK technical support guy (about three issues I had flagged to them - missing radio logos, no web radio, and updating the maps). They are now suggesting that the data allowance on my built-in eSim is preventing the list of web radio stations downloading. So I asked how it would cope with updating the maps. His default reply was to say we had to download it onto an SD card! So I updated him on MIB3 systems not having any, and that plugging a USB stick in had no effect. He's gone away to escalate it again. I've also written to the Head of Customer Services Skoda UK, as it would now seem that if the data allowance is stopping me seeing web radio stations or updating maps online, they are advertising features they cannot provide! Chris
  22. Empty house nearby had rat nest in garden, shot 9 at the bottom of our garden in 2 days. Professional ratman got the rest with traps and poison. Good target practice as I only shoot if I can get a head shot so quick kill, a lot quicker and more humane than poison I suspect.
  23. Front, rear? If rear, off-side, near-side? Interior, exterior?
  24. possibly the most 'stoopid' ride i've done for a while cold, wet, soaked to the skin, every trail, path, singletrack and fire road awash like a river...bloody hard work https://www.strava.com/activities/4508014077
  25. Thank you for the input folks. Interesting to hear the mk4 version rides much better and the difference in rim diameters. I will see how I get on before I spend on new wheels or a new car !
  26. I had an oil service 3 weeks ago, same garage changed my winter tyres, I supplied them, at the same time. Total cost, £120. The joy of an independent and even better they are located 50 metres opposite my work. I spoke to them beforehand, I've used them to swap my tyres and for other cars for years. They know the skoda schedule, know what has to be done, the correct oils to be used etc. Once out of warranty it is a no brainer against official skoda servicing and pricing.

  28. My New Superb 1.5 TSi 150 DSG SEL Estate in Petrol blue. It’s the 2nd Superb I’ve had, the previous one being an identical specification 2019 pre facelift Model in Candy White. I specified the following options- LED Ambient interior light pack Heated Steering wheel I did also Specify The Beige leather instead of black and also Traffic sign recognition but the Factory misbuilt it and these were not fitted! I didn’t want to wait months for another built so I accepted the car as it was. Does anyone know if the Traffic sign Recognition can be coded in with something like Carista or similar?...
  29. Done it! Cheers Done it. Thanks!
  30. If the steering wheel has three stalks then you have ACC - only two and it’s normal CC.
  31. i also have a 1.4tsi facelift - it's a turn anticlockwise job past a bit of a notch. H7 bulb. Easy to access compared to some cars.
  32. Depends if you are halogen or xenon headlights.
  33. Owner's manual can be downloaded from https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Detail?model=Superb_3T&edition=05-2014&market=&manualLang=en Page 220 describes the procedure to replace the bulb, although weirdly it doesn't say what type of bulb it is. Service manual says it's a H7 bulb.

When you can achieve that and rely on there being a charger available when & where you need it EVs will become a viable alternative instead of being only of minority interest.
  35. It's been on UK/EU petrol engines for quite a lot of years now. Most if not all of this century.
  36. APR do the muffler delete (among others), although from my experience - checking out an Audi TT and Golf GTI both with the delete applied whilst having my car worked on at QS Tuning - the difference is almost unnoticeable. Certainly not worth the £150 price tag (+ labour). Cone filters in and of themselves don't add the level of induction noise you'd expect of a naturally aspirated car (obv 😊), so you'll be focused on increasing turbo spool noise. The MY2019 cars are near-silent anyway, so you may have to spend a bit of cash to get it to be noisier unfortunately. You'd be better off investing in an induction kit like the R600 or equivalents, with the silicone intake pipe. Google "Skoda Octavia VRS 245 induction kit" for ideas - plenty from Revo, APR, RacingLine etc. Performance benefits are typically psychological, rather than tangible, but if you're after smiles rather than 'mad gainz' then it's well worth it. Just don't go down the route Younger Ads did, and buy a full carbon fibre APR induction kit like an absolute n0b 😅. It's awesome, but it was stupid expensive compared to the R600 etc.
  37. SkodaParts in Czech list mk1 Octavia ashtrays here. They certainly ship to Greece but worth asking about India. Otherwise there are a number of mk1 Octavias in UK breakers but you will need to explain which model (trim or variant) and colour you need.

I traded my Vitara at almost 5 years old and it was worth around 50% of the price I paid for it new! I haggled a separate deal on the replacement car so it was a fair price for the Suzy and not overly inflated to get me a 'price to change' It was a diesel and was incredibly economical and very reliable. It's a solid little thing, even if the materials are a bit cheap to feel. It's 4x4 system really works well, although you might not want to go seriously green lane-ing in it due to ground clearance being only a little better than a regular hatch. I now have the Hyundai Kona. A bit more premium inside and with a smooth DCT 7 speed box and a decent 4x4 system (centre coupling lock) it's as much 4x4 as I will ever need. The standard spec is huge, but the downside to the car is, in petrol guise at least, the economy is really poor. I have the 177ps version, but even so, it's not great in the mpg stakes. It is rather heavy for a small car too and the extra 4x4 bits probably don't help. It is an incredibly easy car to life with though and would make a superb 'retirement' hatch.
  39. In answer to the title, this is breather line (item 2) of the charcoal canister, here: activated charcoal container; vent hose - Yeti(YET) [EUROPA 2016 year] (7zap.com) If you view that page on a big screen rather than a phone, you'll see part numbers in the table. sometimes these aren't visible on phones. Can't really tell from the picture if the damage includes o-ring or the canister itself. Disassembly of the breather line should show you.
  40. The car has been parked overnight in a barn in rural wales for the first 3 years of its life, or it may be local. I threw a rugby ball in its direction and it hid, so suspect its probably Welsh.... Useful tip regarding removal....Thanks
  41. We recently bought a Yeti and didn't realise that the rear wiper wasn't working, I tracked the lack of activity down to a missing fuse in the interior fuse box, but when I replaced it I found that the rear wiper ran all the time (one wipe every 10 seconds) no matter where the wiper stalk was set, also would randomly trigger and sometimes run continuous while driving. I also found an error code in the BCM which rather unhelpfully said "Pump electronics failure" and no other information. The rear motor has power all the time via the now replaced fuse, on pins 1 and 4. Pins 2-3 connect to the BCM and the washer motor, which triggers the rear wiper to do 3 wipes after washing, or runs continuous if you hold the stalk on wash. I found pin 2 of the motor shorted to ground, after pulling the whole tailgate apart as well as the D-pillar plastics to get acccess to the wiring loom. This wire causes the motor to run once every 10 seconds when it's connected to ground. After pulling the dashboard apart to check the BCM I found the short circuit was not inside the BCM, but when I removed the plug from the washer pump the short circuit became intermittent. If I pulled and pushed on the harness the short would come and go. I traced the short circuit down to the wiring loom underneath the drivers side (RHS/RHD) headlight unit, this car has Xenon headlights and I found a badly placed wiring loom was shorting on the metal casing of the ballast. Headlight top, wiring loom middle, inner wing below. Headlight removed, zero ohms between washer pump connector and probe touching bared surface of wire. Hole in Green wire, barely visible. Area under the headlight where the wire was touching. Managed to separate the wires out of the loom, cleaned and insulated the notch with some impact glue, wrapped with self amalgamating tape, electrical tape and eventually relocated the loom and protected with Teflon Spiral-wrap. Full functionality was restored after turning the ignition off and on again, please note that if the BCM detects a short circuit it WILL NOT try again until you cycle the ignition. Note that you can reach the washer pump clip through the slit in the front bumper and by removing the trim panel directly below the washer bottle, in front of the front wheel. The manual says to remove the bumper but it's not strictly necessary.
  42. Have located and repaired this fault, turned out to be a short under the driver side headlight. Repair details here;
  43. Indeed, I'll be checking all possibilities before I bite the bullet and shoot for the BCM. I just have a gut feeling that the output from the BCM is faulty. Looking around on a few site's I've seen people having to replace output driver IC's in the BCM which I'm comfortable to do as I'm an electronics engineer. Even if the BCM is faulty I still have a gut feeling that there's an intermittent short somewhere else, as I'm positive the outputs of the BCM won't just randomly fail. I'll report back once I find out more, that could be a while as this is the Mrs's car, and the headlight washers also soak the windscreen so the impact to her is negligable and she's never eager to give me the car for diagnosis! Thank you again for your assistance.
  44. The pumps are odd little things, the impeller spins backwards or forwards to send the water to the back or front screen, the outputs have a little spring loaded non-return valve which stops the washer fluid - A- draining back to the tank under gravity and - B- stops it being sucked back by the pump when it's going in the opposite direction. I dissected one a long time ago and it was a curious but ingenious design. All of this is pointing to there being a connection to the front screenwash not working. perhaps there's a fuse or something I've missed, although it seems very unlikely as I checked every single fuse previously. if the motor was faulty then it wouldn't wash the rear screen, so I can't see why it won't wash the front. Regards, Dave.
  45. I agree to an extent. There's difference to my mind, between classifying a risk as an inattentive/distracted driver caught doing 33 in a 30 and a deliberste white knuckle chase overtaking on double white lines at 95 on A roads. By the same token my last wife had multiple low speed careless crashes, including tearing the back door off my 6 week old pride and joy, yet when we separated (not because of the crashes! ) my premiums went up , because I wasn't married on a joint policy... I did try explaining but was ignored as single men are a higher risk. I tried explaining that they'd now be paying out less money on crash damage, to no avail. Bonkers !
  46. The way I'm feeling at the moment I migh invest in one if these :
  47. Got some stripes for the grille in the post today. Only cost me a few pound on amazon and I think it looks quite smart.
  48. The pics here is the "near" finished product. I had bored the turbo side of it (big side) smooth, The o-ring is sitting under a ring that pops out, it pops back in easy so dont worry if you accidentally pop it out. I wanted to leave a bit of plastic around the "choke point" on the damper as I was worried I would burn through the plastic or weaken it too much, risking it snapping. when I had taken the worst of the rough out with a dremel I sanded it by hand with 120 grit then 800 grit to smooth it out slightly. I put all back and started it. I didnt record a video as it was midnight by the time I had it back together. On an unrelated note, this car sounds amazing without the air filter hooked up, I ran it like that to make sure I had tightened up all the hoses and that there was no boost leaks.
