  1. Sadly I decided to sell my beloved Superb, after 5 good years, due to several factors, change in circumstances and with COVID I just don't do the miles that a diesel needs to keep it sweet, luckily my brother in law has brought it from me, so she stays in the family, it has been a terrific car, and a joy to drive, I will miss that BIG car. It left my garage for the last time on Sunday, and today I picked up my first EV, E-Niro 4+, brand new, ordered 3 months ago, so a new motoring chapter starts in my driving career, I will continue to monitor this great forum, so to all of you, I wish you a Happy New Year.
  2. Good morning everyone, this is my 2017 skoda octavia vrs 2.0 tsi. Bought the car with 8 thousand miles on the clock a year and a half ago and have put about 14 thousand miles on the clock and the car has been great. The car came with...... Heated cloth vrs seats. Lane assist. Audio with canton. 19 inch wheels. Dynamic chassis control. Black pack. Winter pack. Dsg gearbox. So I'm led to believe the car came with 217bhp which was OK but lacked a little power so I set about tuning it a little. I wasn't looking for the all important bhp rolling road numbers just something that surprised a few cars as I wanted the car to look completely standard from the outside. Octavia VRS 2.0 tsi Air intake mod. ITG panel filter. Big bore silicon intake hose. Larger diameter turbo elbow. Turbo muffler delete. RS3 ignition coils. RS7 spark plugs. Centre exhaust silencer delete. Stage 1 ecu remap. Probably need to go to stage 2 next year if I am going to extract more power from it. Thank you for looking everyone.
  3. Picked up the Lava Blue (Petrol) Combi iV from the dealer today, so far so good
  4. I live in the hills above Matlock in Derbyshire at 760ft above sea level so back in January when I bought the Octy, I invested in a full set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2. I have experience of true winter tyres and I can conclude these aren't quite as good in snow as those but still offer a huge improvement on summer tyres. Plus I can keep them on all year. Today was the first true test of the tyres but I made a mistake going up the hill covered in compacted snow and ice. I forgot to switch the traction control off so it proved to be a real battle. Summer tyres would have seen me spin off on the corner altogether so still a huge improvement. No problem on fresh snow. https://youtu.be/2aZeC0q-6Dk
  5. After searching here to see if anyone else had Intalled the revised Maxton design rear spoiler, I thought I put up mine as I installed it over Christmas. It's the version 2 diffuser and I think it looks amazing, fits amazing well ( which was a suprise after reading so many reviews about bad fitment ) and comes with an exhaust extension peice to move the exhaust away from the diffuser as it apparently melts them otherwise. Apparently you can fit these with the bumper on but I couldn't be bothered so took the whole bumper off instead. Took a few hours but that was really taking my time and I'm really pleased with the results. Also fitted new wheels, the reiger front splitter and I have Maxton design side skirts to install next but haven't worked out how best to fit them without drilling into the sill ? Then fit my lowering springs....... Anyway, here's some pics of the diffuser installed and just wondered what you think. Also my love the fact it hides my detachable tow bar and has a removable panel 👍

  7. Banging on about politics on a car forum has always struck me as an outstandingly pointless exercise. All the best xman.
  8. A brand new car should be a pleasure, not a headache. There is a definite fault. Take it back and say fix it or exchange.
  9. Loving running an EV in winter. Without being plugged in at home and pre warmed it is just a case of getting into a frozen up car, turning on and the interior is toasty in minutes, glass and screen all deiced very quickly and heated seats and wheel making the car very comfortable. I am going to charge for free for an hour or so most mornings first thing and the car is hot while doing that. 40 minutes free charging and that is good for about 100 miles and some town and back road driving and about 60 miles or so range still in hand. This is at temps around freezing or lower night and day time. Much cheapness. 5500 miles covered and still under £14 paid to use chargers and that was in the first week of driving this car and trying pay and go chargers. Not yet used any chargers in council areas where there is a cost to charge.
  10. I too did the 17" S3 alloy change on my Octavia, they didn't stay on long before I went back to the standard 16" Elegance alloys My Octavia was sat on KW Springs & Dampers, the mk1 Octavia's make fantastic looking sleepers I can't comment on the 1.8t maintenance/tuning as I only had my mk1 vrs for 18months before buying the above PD130, that said, my PD130 had 185bhp & 343ftlb and handled the power fine with the standard 205/55/16 tyre size & allows the 312mm brake upgrade to fit nicely

The car is taking shape, but due to Xmas progress has slowed. More to come soon.
  12. Cheers for that Lucky pants - both meters seem to be working fine, although I'm delaying whether to switch to Octopus Go at this time. For the amount it's currently costing me using my wall box (£10 after 2 months & 480 miles) it's hardly worth the effort to switch (thanks to Tesco free chargers) , plus I've got solar panels so come the summer even charging at home should be cheap during daylight. Hopefully next year with more chances to drive, my charge requirements may alter & so I'll reserve my options to switch, but until then I'll stick with my Fixed 2 Year Tariff.
  13. Yes I just read it and editted my posting which overlapped with yours. I am in complete agreement, however on the French forum I belong to its many times worse, I come here for a break! They are reacting very badly because the joy they were hoping to feel at the downfall of the UK has been denied them.
  14. HTH. Thanks, AG Falco Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 215/50 R18 92VH
  15. Not if using secondhand parts, good luck finding a car that will work flawlessly for three years, even brand new cars will have recalls or warranty work done in that time. It's almost certainly the pump unit since angle sensor failure will put the pump into always on mode and you'd have some assistance.
  16. I've got an SEL on 18s with the same tyre size you mention above. I swap onto 17 inch alloys for winter and the comfort difference between the two is lovely! It is perfectly comfy on 18s in my opinion but 17s make it next level! I'd imagine going from 19 to 18 would feel similar to my step down.
  17. Welcome. Your engine is a petrol 2.0 TSI engine - which is 220bhp form is the unit used on the Octavia VRS's as well as on the Superb's. Nothing particular comes to mind: 1) Check the state of the oil. Should have been done at 18k ish. Ask the dealer for the service history. 2) I am surprised you've only got a 6 speed Auto DSG - are you sure you don't have the DQ381 7 speed DSG? - either variants are generally bulletproof. If you want to be super happy, get a gearbox oil change done [normally done at 40k for the 6 speed DSG's]. That will give you peace of mind.
  18. Make sure it has good quality tyres fitted because this engine with front wheel drive will spin the tyres pulling away in 1st gear on even a dry surface but had water on the road or icy conditions and you will be sitting at the lights simply doing a burn out like a 500bhp Ford Mustang.
  19. Well I think the struggle getting up that hill was partly down to it being compacted snow and ice and partly down to me leaving the traction control on. If we get another snowfall, I'll try again with it switched off. All season tyres aren't quite as good as winter tyres in winter and aren't quite as good as summer tyres in summer. They are better than summer tyres in winter though and better than winter tyres in summer. Ideal for the generally mild UK winters with rare snowfall.
  20. @varaderoguy I suggested to a guy in the Facebook page for ovrsmk3ovrs to do what you've tried to do there a while ago and someone else came along and sorted the problem by suggesting removing the little lenses. I'm sorry it didn't work for you
  21. Exactly. Springs compress the same way but it will always be 6.5mm higher than where it would be without the thicker pads. This is how OEM springs are set also: back sits higher than the front. It's Eibach springs that drop the rear more so that it ends up at the same height as the front for better looks, but having this effect on the loading.
  22. By quick, I mean only a few minutes for the ice at the bottom of the windscreen to be slush and able to be squeegeed out the way. No aux heater/FBH that I know about, just started her up, pressed the various switches for max demist, heated rear screen on and mirror heating on. Then closed the door & rear screen was ready to be cleared almost straight away, mirrors were cleared but they were folded in. And it was -4.something so deffo not melting on its own. In the light of CJJE’s experience with mirrors it might be a good idea to switch off folding on locking. PS Folding mirrors are now off.
  23. If you want any more photos, I don't mind sending you some. I think it looks amazing on a white car, especially with a the matching black detail. Well worth it, especially as I've got a detachable tow bar, stealth yet practical at the same time 👍
  24. I didn’t need any de-icing spray, I tend to let the car warm up enough via the engine then it’s easy enough to get the ice off sometimes just with the squeegee blade. If it’s too bad I just let the front windows warm up enough, the back windows will sort them selves out on their own, van style. I was very impressed with how quickly the mirrors and rear windscreen cleared. And as a pauper spec, no heated front screen, seats or steering wheel but after maybe 10 minutes running the car was plenty comfortable and I can confirm it’s fine driving the car with ski gloves on, no problem pressing & twiddling heating controls. So glad that’s not done via the touch screen.
  25. Search Amazon for :- TANCUDER 2 PCS USB Right Angle Adapter USB 3.0 Adapter Couplers 90 Degree Male to Female, Left & Right USB Connector Plug Coupler Extender Type A Male to Type A Female Adapter plenty to choose from!
  26. Looks a lot more subtle than the other version which is a little in your face. Quite similar to the Reiger offering. Did you go matt or gloss finish? Good to hear there's no fitment issues.
  27. You need to recode with OBDelleven/vcds so the car knows it has a new unit onboard. Google it or search on here for the procedure. Should be very similar for most modern VAG cars. Clearing the fault is not enough.
  28. When I picked up the passat it had zero charge and only 1/4 tank so filled it up with vpower less than a mile from the dealer and the 35 mile journey home (mostly m25/m3) gave 43mpg on the dash. not sure what the actual mpg would have been as needed to get home with no time to refill locally to me. Still on the first tank and the needle has barely dropped from max as been doing most of the miles on electric. pretty sure overall readout I something like 78mpg (have played with gte mode a couple of times which significantly affects overall readout). I'll be sure to keep tabs on mileage when I finally refuel but at this rate i'll be into the engine starting itself to clear the pipes due to not using the engine much.
  29. I've just done this and it worked 🙄. Thanks 👍
  30. Hi all. The issue on my previous Octavia VRS TSI was slightly different. Once mapped by Shark, who are now Racingline, the power was great until you hit 6k revs. Then it really held back with a horrible misfire. If you held it at 6k revs, it went into limp mode. Once the engine was turned off and on again, it ran smooth again, but still with the high reving problem. The mapper tried all sorts of things, in fact on one of these trying occasions he had my car for two weeks. Changed plugs, fuel pump at the tank, as well as the one on the engine. Changed coil packs fuel filter, all to no avail. In the end he had to detune the power of the map at the higher revs. That meant it put loads of power down until you got to 6k revs and then it trailed off to hardly any power at all. I got round it by just changing up a gear a bit earlier when giving it some stick. It was still like that when I sold it for the VRS i have now. Have any of you guys with these problems got your car on a rolling road yet with a VW expert looking at the problem?
  31. For a holiday-like journey, let say mainly highway at an average of 110 km/h or 70 mph, my assumption would be that a range 800 km is easily achievable in hybrid mode. I would expect the battery to be depleted way before arriving to destination if no external of engine charge occurs. If an external charge is done at some point during the trip, that would be a game changer as the fuel consumption would stay low during the vast majority of the trip. Of course, that would depend on many factors (slope being the biggest one I think). From my observation, as long as the battery is not depleted, and with a reasonable driving style, the average consumption will unlikely go over 4l/100km at that speed. The fuel tank can hold 50 litres, that includes the reserve of around 5 litres, if I am not mistaken.
  32. 52 mph as opposed to 46 mph on way there with EGR. It felt smoother & more flexible but it's only on returning to my usual journeys that I can really appreciate it. The drive from cold from my house up a hill on very light throttle is so much brisket, it will accept a higher gear earlier, it feels so much smoother and more responsive, none can be measured and all could be confirmation bias but I am happy.
  33. First 1.500 km done with my Superb iV. Absolutely love the car. Overwall average consumption of 3.3l/100 km (71 mpg) and 13.9 kWh/100km (4.45 mi/kWh). Best I can get from electric mode only ranges from 38km to 42km (I think more can be achieved with higher outside temperatures). Therefore I mainly use EV mode for any trip less than 40km and hybrid mode for anything above. Considering that most of my trips are outside cities, I am pretty happy with that result.
  34. Very difficult to define a best size, without knowing what you mean by best : comfort, sportiness, noise, grip in muddy puddles etc If it is a simple wheel size comparison then what what sizes were the model (which you haven’t stated) originally sold with, as an example (depending on spec) might have had 16, 17, 18 inch and optional 19 inch wheels. I would suggest go for middle size (or if 4 sizes, 2nd from bottom). Probably best balance for majority of people If you want tyre suggestions. Continental all season contact, or Goodyear vector 4season Gen3 (generation 3). If you live on coast and snow is rare then Bridgestone weather control A005 evo (the evo version is improved). The Michelin Cross Climate plus is also good (but a version 2 might be imminent). For sporty cars with obscure size tyres then Vredestein Quattrac Pro would be good choice.

Easy enough to check what spark plugs are needed for whichever petrol engine, using the Reg number or VIN. Best to know if the spark plug type was changed for engines from when the car was launched and owner's manuals printed and maybe never updated.

Just replied to your PM, although now I know you're looking to fit it to a MK3 Octavia you should ignore the links/parts I mentioned. Anyway, our Russian friends have already achieved this There might be part differences for a LHD vs RHD car but the following links should give a general idea: - https://www.drive2.ru/l/530242782103601378/ - https://www.drive2.ru/l/494265662131142870/ Just check the pins match for your ECU, Wiring diagrams can be found from Skoda for a small fee: https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do
  40. Errors were cleared after driving the car for few minutes. Thanks
  41. Woke up to a beautiful day. Was reminded I should fit the winter wheels. So that was the afternoon job. Times 2. Hubs & wheels look like rusty crap as usual. Only done 9 months and 4,300 miles. OEM wheels cleaned up nicely with half a bucket of elbow grease. Just need an oily rag to finish them off and stack ‘em for a few months. 2 stacks of wheels make a nice storage table 😀

Being an old ft I tend to let everything warm up, metal and lubricants, tyres and so on before belting it. I realise modern engines may not need much warming but what e-roottoot says makes good sense.
  43. Hi, can anyone else confirm this is correct? Other posts on this forum seem to suggest that coding (1 digit change) is needed in all cases of battery replacement.
  44. Our Edition has space-saver spare and non-variable floor. The 3 net pack supplied with the car was 57A8676137EY - black rather than grey. Your best way of establishing which set would fit your Sportline is to contact a dealer for the part number. I've found Skoda Parts Ireland (Burns Car Sales) very useful - send them an email and they'll get back to you in a few days. Their prices are also very good although the DPD courier shipping cost means you would probably need to 'build' your order up to get the best value.
  45. My Sportline came with three nets as standard. The one across the back seat in your pic, the one on the nearside, and the one shown across the open end of the boot but fitted on the offside of the boot. I already had one to fit across the floor of the boot (which originally came with my Skoda Octavia many years ago) and I've added that to the floor of the Karoq's boot. I also have a spacesaver spare wheel, and fixed height boot floor. But I can't advise you on the order code I'm afraid. Chris
  46. Thank you for taking the time to read my question and thank you for your answers, each one is appreciated. I was going to answer each of you individually, please accept my apologies as there are quite a few people to reply to. I have read every one of the solutions. My conclusion is that from your answers, the misting up issue may well be coming from the radiator. I think all the other issues have been eliminated. I tried the Rain X wipes which worked really well and they are definitely something I will be using in the future. They really cleaned the windscreen well, however, the abnormal misting up continues. Probably around four years ago the air conditioning stop working. The garage told me that it was a pipe that was quite expensive to replace, I was half expecting to replace the car, so, I did not replace the air conditioning pipe, so it is still not functioning. Do you think this could cause an issue? I did try putting a container of Radweld into the radiator as this is something that my local garage suggested. However, the problem still seems to be ongoing. I would have thought if there was a leak in the radiator, it would probably show more? I probably top the radiator up about three times a year, it does not take an abnormal amount of water to fill it. Once again, thank you for trying to help. It's appreciated. Roy
  47. The misty lenses on the part of the light surround that you take off just pop out. The round bit of the light goes between the lens and the silver reflector. Someone on the mk3 VRS Facebook page had the same problem a while back
  48. Hello, I got this beauty and i would like to share some pics of it with these nice summer wheels and the Maxton diffuser i just installed some day ago.
  49. Well, 7 weeks ownership of my Kia e Niro and now feel "qualified" to state it's GREAT ! Over the initial 300 miles of use (limited for obvious reasons), and it has cost just £7.13p , approximately £30 less than my Karoq would have cost for the same mileage. I have taken advantage of the free to use Tesco / Pod Point chargers and used my home wall box twice (standard tariff), hence the £7 bill ! Mileage now is greater, but haven't topped up yet so latest figures not available. I'm with Octopus & have discovered they've a much cheaper tariff so will be swapping to it soon. The car itself is also great ; I'm overall VERY impressed with both the quality and driving experience, my thoughts of "What have I done ??" during the waiting delivery time now totally banished and I would recommend the Kia to anyone contemplating, as I did, a "time to change". Best wishes to all, stay safe & stay well.
