  1. Winter condition... nice drive !!!
  2. The 1.4TSI engine in the Octavia III is the CHPA engine, which does not have a timing chain (it has a timing belt), if you search this Octavia III forum you will see owners have not had problems with the injectors either. We've had ours for 5 years now (bought when 1 year old) and not had any engine problems at all. I suspect you are looking at information for the older 1.4TSI engine not the one fitted to the Octavia III.

Published CO2 figures may not correlate well, but real output does. When you burn hydrocarbon fuels you make CO2, H2O and very little else, after all.
  7. When the engine was introduced, VW made lots of noise about the belt lasting for the life of the engine - it did not have a replacement interval and the VW blurb said maintenance free - see page 13 of the VAG Service Training manual here: https://procarmanuals.com/vag-ssp-511-new-ea211-petrol-engine-family/ VW blurb here, about half way down about toothed belt: https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/en/the-new-golf-das-auto-international-driving-presentation-2797/the-new-golf-powertrain-structure-engines-and-gearboxes-2835 Inspection was at ~160k miles, then again every ~20K, change only if needed. But Skoda UK suggest change it every 5 years/50K miles: https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/8b70c541-726b-4996-9999-66ebc7ca520b Take your pick....
  8. +1 to PetrolDave’s comments. Definitely the engine to have. 1.4 chpa tsi engine in the mk3 Octavia is ace, 81000 miles on mine so far, been across France, Switzerland and Italy in it, no issues whatsoever
  9. Checked my charger. It’s a CTEK Multi XS 7000. Doesn’t have a specific AGM mode but the user manual does say it’s suitable for AGM batteries. It has a14.7v charging mode so ought to do the trick. Went out in the car this afternoon and it was fine - no low voltage warnings so looks like Saturdays run was the boost it needed. Off on a 180 mile run next week which will do it a power of good. Am keeping the charger handy from now on though just in case.
  10. Had my VRS estate a week now and loving it, still getting used to the infotainment etc and a manual gearbox again. I've not had any issues with the software or assistance systems, fingers crossed that continues as I've not done a lot of miles yet. I came from a 2019 Audi A4 Black Edition and I was expecting a drop in quality in the cabin, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how good it is.

anything over 40k new gets an additional payment for the first 3yr. So £140 becomes £550 And there are an awful lot of not very interesting cars these days that have a list price of over £40k, and it does include optional extas
  12. I hate it when that happens. Dash cams are useful. A few years ago mine captured footage of a EU plate lorry reversing into the car in front of me in a layby & pushed it back 5ft! The lorry driver got out to check but when he saw no one was in the car (woman had taken her dog for a walk) he buggered off. I left a note on the cars windscreen with my contact details as a witness. I sent the woman the dash cam footage later that week which was used to track down the overseas lorry driver & claim on their insurance. Not sure if the driver got done for failing to report an accident or not. Good deed for the day done.

More proof that the published CO2 figures have little or no relationship to what happens in the real world!

All three of the cars I mentioned have 'achieved' near enough 45mpg over the period of ownership - so in my experience CO2 output really isn't a guide to real world mpg. Another example - my previous Audi B7 RS4 had the same basic engine as the later B8 RS4 (4.2 V8) but the B8 version had an improved inlet manifold so it developed 40bhp more, yet Audi claimed CO2 emissions approximately 30% lower???
  15. Sunset last night from Stanage end, south yorkshire.
  16. That'll be the Brexit effect! Just for info, here are two photos of my Karoq with the RGM protector in "carbon fibre effect".
  17. Given interior full detail, vinyl and leather treated with zymol conditioners, carbon and piano black trims waxed with zymol detail wax and alcantara wheel cleaned too
  18. I have had same issue for few months unlock car fuel cap dosen't open. I have found a soloution which works without replacing servo motor. Lock the car and as your unlocking the car at the same time push the fuel filler cap at same time it pops open everytime for me.
  19. Morning All, Bit of a guide really after following some advice on here, and some ideas of my own (well the father in laws).. So yesterday after popping out at lunchtime to check the oil level post an oil service the day before, pulled the bonnet release handle in the cabin and it moved with some tension but hey ho.. bonnet wont release. The fix was, drivers side wheel off, inner arch liner removed (plastic part), and fiber liner pulled back out the way, and headlight cover removed, the offending cable can be seen easily, but when grabbed and pulled the 2 parts just separated at the connector near the bonnet release catch on the slam panel. With a torch the nipple of the bonnet release end of the cable can be easily seen. We tied a slip knot to the end of an old bathroom light string, and maneuvered it over the nipple using a flexible grabber pull the string and hey presto bonnet is open! Then its just a case of simply reattaching the cables in the connector and cable tying it together so it cant release again. Hope this helps someone one day Lol Dan
  20. Depends when in 2017 the car was built. If it has the MIB2.5 (all glass screen) it’ll be the DQ381 7 speed. If it has the earlier MIB2 it’ll be the DQ250 6 speed.
  21. It looked like just water no smell and did not feel oily to touch. going to keep an eye on it and see if it’s keeps happening Micky
  22. Don't think so. Presence of, but not thickness. And braking performance obviously.

VW online parts catalogue http://www.oemepc.com/skoda Front suspension 8 6R0413031AG shock absorbers front Model data: PR-G07 http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/FAB/year/2011/drive_standart/697/hg_ug/411/subcategory/411030/part_id/2561497/lang/e https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/6r0413031ag-shock-absorber-skoda-39144.html Rear shock absorber 7 6R0513025AF gas shock absorber for sports suspension rear Model data: PR-1JE RS http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/FAB/year/2011/drive_standart/697/hg_ug/511/subcategory/511020/part_id/2561497/lang/e https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/6r0513025af-rear-shock-absorber-rs-skoda-18969.html Check that these are the correct OEM part numbers for your car. One way is to check your car's build codes. If your Fabia MK2 has build code G07, then front shock absorber with OEM part number 6R0413031AG fits. If your Fabia MK2 has build code 1JE then rear shock absorber with OEM part number 6R0513025AF fits. Some of the build codes will be on a white label stuck under the carpet in the boot area. You can also check the OEM part numbers on your current shock absorbers if they are original. The OEM part number should be stamped on each shock absorber if they are genuine VW group ones.
  24. If a DSG and not a manual, there is a 'Service Campaign' called on some of the DQ200 DSG's from 2013-2015, so check if it required the Recall Action and had it. '34H5' was a software update carried out as a preventative measure to help protect the DSG from a premature demise.

Ask a dealer? Check the online configurator?
  26. I meant me buying the parts, and then getting the pros to do it. My local garage cant get parts for less than £1100, where I can get them for £600 from the same place.

Plastic Leather .... Well mostly ...
  29. For general, I have a 1litre bag of absorbing pellets. Keep it on the parcel shelf or the boot. won’t help with lots of ingress, but does help with the odd bit of condensation. certainly noticed it when I’d find all the windows down a crack... sitting on the key fob really is a pain. Or after a damp weekends camping... just pulls the last bit out... or not, it could be a con.
  30. Similar when a neighbours car was hit. Van company driver claimed he didn’t know he’d done it. Which is odd as I was watching him, when he pulled up, got out, looked at the damage, went back to van, left a note(illegible) then drove off. Good deed indeed but super nervous going on record, giving a statement a few months after an incident... fortunately not the first time so I made little story event cards for it on the day, just in case. anyhow the superb is a little battered, but drives me and from about 20’ looks fine. It’s only plastic and I can still sleep at night. I might go and remove some flappy bits of trim today, not like they are being glued back in place
  31. Oh well, another topic gone to the dogs, it was nice while it lasted... 😂
  32. Yesterday I upgraded my wheels and added spacers too. Looks much better! Will be keeping the Gemini wheels for winter ❄️

TESLA 'Fast' or Rapid charging is at TESLA Superchargers. So as you come through Scotland you will be looking for them in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee and where ever. Often they are sitting empty of those with a TESLA because the driver has a car they are not getting free charging with and they will be on the Charge Place Scotland chargers getting 22 kW, 44 kW, 50 kW or what ever.

  35. @Bryfly Fingers between handle and door to unlock Finger (only one needed) by rectangular bit on outside (if start waving other fingers around the handle it will unlock again, as don’t actually have to touch the handle). Stand by the boot, and will unlock boot only (for putting shopping in), so don’t walk around the back of the car and pause as might get unlocked boot.
  36. I have very little data on my phone. My parking spot is too far away to receive my WiFi. So the other day I picked a spot at LIDL closest the building and connected to their free WiFi to download some apps and updates etc 😁👍🤣😂
  37. Meerest touch with the back of fingers for me. My partner had this trouble too, maybe still does, she couldn't understand that you don't grip the handle when locking the car.
  38. Just to close this off, a small discount and refundable deposit while I go and find a car to sit in at the weekend mean this one's now mine pending success this weekend. Thanks for all your help!

If you want to know the real world fuel economy of a car you're considering acquiring, it's probably a good idea to research it on crowd-sourced websites like spritmonitor or fuelly, where (large numbers of) real drivers report their real-world fuel usage. Avoids some of the perils of the official testing that can give false impressions despite general good intentions of the legislation.

  42. Thanks for letting us know your unwanted predicament, I can imagine that the amount of stress it's causing you is unbelievable. All I can say is that I wish you all the best and hope it's resolved to your satisfaction soon.

We expect nothing less than a full, in depth review then!
  45. ObdEleven will do what you require, and add the ability to turn them on and off from the settings menu on the console screen. But as above, I’m not sure why you’d want to. I’ve mine adjusted to Scandinavian lights to make sure my lights are on at the back all the time as well.
  46. Has she clobbered the other side yet Chris? I enjoyed reading this thread, thanks
