  1. Nice sunset this morning and I noticed an odd cloud formation in the West
  2. 600 is about right. We have to be careful with some of our advice on here, we dont want to be making matters harder than they are. You cant compare the diesel and petrol VRS as they are completely different! The EA888 gen3 waterpump housing is a well know problem across all the various brands, the part is expensive and there is a sh!t ton of stuff to move out of the way to get access = $$$. Unlike some others, I know this for a fact as I have paid for this recently myself, even watched a youtube video to see if I would take it on myself - NO THANKS.
  3. Went up a local hill and watched everyone else's fireworks this evening HwVideoEditor_2021_11_05_200830008.mp4
  4. Having logged back on I realised that I never gave closure on this thread which can serve as reference for others. Final itemised cost via Indy VAG garage was: £120 + VAT labour for removing and installing water pump, £161.18 + VAT Water pump £11.60 + VAT "Long life Antifreeze red" I did get an oil service at the same time so not sure if that helped with rates. Having done 3600+ miles since June including 7 hour journeys and no sign of leaks or overheating. The only thing is I'm not entirely convinced they used the correct G13 coolant (VW TL 774 J spec) as it's looking rather red (so perhaps G12) but as far as I'm aware it's compatible. I also can't find any evidence of having the dreaded silica bag in the tank so I think I'm safe on that topic.
  5. I must come and visit your planet sometime PP 😁 Gaz
  6. Get a prying tool in the gap at the top, and pull out. It’ll snap off
  7. I'd suggest before looking at power increase you look at uprating the braking system. I notice that the MK2 Fabia has discs al round. Possibly not an option on a MK1, but perhaps an upgrade to the VRS discs and pads?+
  8. In fact Jamesmaher63 the Polo is less expensive! I have just ordered a Polo Life DSG (95 PS) in Smokey Grey metallic. I was pleasantly surprised by the standard spec of the car - includes folding mirrors, adaptive cruise, virtual cockpit, LED dipped beam, LED rear lights, paddles on steering wheel and travel assist. I just added heated seats, rear view camera and spare wheel. VW are giving £750 contribution and dealer chipped in £500 so good value on PCP. Total cost for the car is £22020. I would have preferred the 110 PS engine but this is only available on the R-line which is a pity. The R-line with its fake exhausts and significantly higher price did not appeal. (I was able to take a test drive with the 95 PS engine and was relieved that it had enough power for me). For once in my view VW UK have pitched their offering well. As you know I have been waiting for the new Fabia but this has proved very disappointing, more expensive and with fewer factory-fit options available, too many of which are in the form of ‘packs’. This shows, sad to say, that Skoda UK have simply got this launch wrong for customers who want to customise their order.
  9. I've had a fun few days! The Rapid had a Powerflow stainless steel catback fabricated and fitted plus a DPF delete at SC Performance - a little bit of sound and a smart looking exhaust, although I still need to get a photo of it! With the DPF delete it was gutted, not replaced with a delete pipe, which should satisfy any nosey MOT inspector as long as it can pass emissions... The next day I drove over to DC Automotive & Tuning in Funtington for a remap and dyno run where it made 142.4HP and 272.9lb*ft, not quite the 150HP quoted but it made more torque than expected (235lb*ft) and I'm happy with 142HP from a 90k engine. The power comes in so much earlier and the car doesn't feel asthmatic anymore, it's made a world of difference! plus it's worth revving it out to 4,000rpm when really hammering it, the wider peak power band is very useful. I'm tempted to look at turbo and injector upgrades to see what's the next step for more power but I doubt it will happen. Next mods should be springs and refurbed wheels, the car's coming along nicely

One rear door down, one to go. So much easier than the front. All the tips for the front apply to the rear, just with fewer electrical connectors. Interestingly there is more factory sound installation stuck to the inside skin of the back door that the front. Broke two clips so really don't do this without spares. Having heard that Amazon and Aliexpress versions sometimes are poor fitting I got some from Skoda around a euro each. I seem to have broken three on every door that I've removed so buy a few. Also be sure to Hoover any broken clips out of the door, last thing you want is them rattling around in there. The hardest part was actually removing the window switch as it is very tight and the gaps are tiny to get your pricing tools in. Make sure your pry tools are thin and it is best to pry up first from the long side rather than the rear, short end. Door makes a lovely deep 'thunk' now closing.

Well that went well... He calms down quicker in the back instead of the boot as he can see where he's going now with relative ease.
  13. I think I can say with complete confidence, you’ve now spent more time trying to enable the automatic change than you would have just manually changing it over your entire ownership of the vehicle. HTH 👍🏻
  14. The versions of the EA888 used in the MQB platform are all chain driven.... The only 2 belts:- Aux belt for the alternator & air con compressor water pump on other side of engine. The main water pump (N493) has about four different pipe stubs on it & the gear for the belt ....& it is expensive...the only cheap pump is the "continued coolant circulation pump " (N51). Thats from the VAG self study guides for the engine...
  15. Hello again folks, I took the plunge! I bought myself a 53 plate Octavia 1U 1.9 TDI (VE 110) Elegance Estate in Silver. £1800, 105,000 miles, full service history and a few minor niggles but nothing serious. It went straight in to get the timing belt and water pump done and it's now sitting in the drive outside, next will be full service and brakes, then maybe flywheel and clutch (conversion to single mass has been recommended as it's a little noisy). Can anyone think of anything else I should consider doing? I'm very happy with the car so far, it feels so solid and well built, it's not that slow either. Thank you all for the help in the run up to the purchase. I'll attach photos once I've taken some. All opinions welcome!
  16. KW V2 with dcc deactivation. -30mm on rear -35mm on front great driving improvement and now it looks much better.
  17. Just bought my first Skoda. OC3FL my2018. Very happy with it so far :)

Quite literally then....😜 Glad it worked out for you and the pupster!
  19. You appeared to be a little confused by my post. What I was saying is that with any start in first gear there will be slip. If there wasn't the engine would just bog down and most likely stall. Slip is another word for engaging the clutch. Too much slip and you burn your clutch. Lovely smell. Too little slip and you risk stalling or bogging down when setting off. To me the long known slip issue is all software related and poor programming from VAG. The TCU is trying to work out on the fly from how much throttle is applied, how much torque is being requested of the engine. Them it has to work out how best to apply that to gear whilst maximising the cars launch and not causing it to stall or put too much strain on the gearbox. All that in a fraction of a second and then constatlntly monitoring it over and over many times. Knowing most car manufacturers they will always go with safer option and reduce the amount of strain on the gearbox by torque limits. If you have ever driven auto Ferrari of old they were really bad for slip in first gear. But that was to stop people being too keen when maneuvering and crashing.
  20. Thankyou, good to be here.
  21. All done thank you guys. The only.proble..I had was the VW tool I got to screw into the bottom of the oil pan was M24 thread the actual one needed was M22 so I had to go to a local hose place to get one made up with a coupler and nipple.
  22. I've been using AA today and checked out what you said. The solution is simple - just touch the screen and the compass and zoom arrows appear. Something to remember for next time. 👍
  23. Not a problem. I'd like to see how this unfolds as I may consider this for the future if my Fabia lasts long enough, but with an Ibiza swap.
  24. Don't rely 100% on the charts even the capacity of the tank isn't exactly 42 litres. Every gas station has different inclination, different employee with diferent attitude so there is no quarantee that every time you fill it up your tank has the same amount of gasoline inside. The traffic simoulation on the factory tests has nothing to do with the tough reality of the town traffic especially on a hot day. A guy wich has his Felicia from town A to B via highway has not the same fuel consumption with a guy which travels from one suburb to another in a big city. and a guy which lives in the mountain with heavy winter has not the same fuel consumption with one which lives in a island. Don't make comparisons especially with drivers from other countries because there are many parametres (different asphalt, wind, gasoline quality, temperature, different road design etc).
  25. Yes, sorry but im a little bit tired. Thanks for help guys!!!!❤
  26. Yes, i will buy the bigger brakes, next week delivers by the courier, feom a mk1 vrs fabia. This is 288mm the seller said. And i replaced the back bridge, so i have disc brake instead of drum brakes. So the 1.9 shafts fits good? Because i can buy 1.9 shafts fromt the guy who sold the engine.
  27. Probably be a matter of cutting and splicing the wiring loom of the car amongst other things. I have no idea about the immobiliser however.
  28. Engine and everything i nedd for a replace, out.
  29. Hey! My fabia, before i started the work on it.
  30. a few head rests for sale on ebay
  31. - It does also look like a rear head head restraint out of an Octavia 1.
  32. I did say "my limited experience" as my cars do not have stop/start so I my battery replacements are the far cheaper basic lead acid with limited warranties. I usually get more than 5 years out of them and I don't lose out on as much petrol savings as you may think as I'm quite prepared to turn off the engine manually in situations where I know no movement will happen for a while. Annoys the wife no end when I do it
  33. Anecdotally it seems that cars (not just Skoda) with stop/start are susceptible to shorter-than-expected battery life. Lot of caveats, like it will depend on driving conditions, whether subjected to abnormal battery depletion (accidental or otherwise), whether the car's battery management system is working properly, or just possibly the battery fitted was defective, but if the latter was the case then it would probably have failed earlier. I'd be surprised if you could not find a better deal on line than what the dealer is offering but in my limited experience the warranties for new batteries are rarely longer than 3 years. I think that batteries are excluded from the car warranty, like brakes and other 'consumables'.
  34. Noticed in the accessories brochure (UK) they list the Nextbase 522GW. Halfords supplied and fitted this model with the optional rear camera on my Astra about 2 years ago, major bonus with it being hardwired in is it detects motion if the car rocks and turns the camera on. So it might not catch the car being hit whilst parked but it will certainly catch them driving off / looking at the damage. So far it has only caught a couple of junkies having a nosey around the car, guessing they tried the door or something to trigger it as it also showed them trying my neighbour's cars. I wouldn't have known other than my Astra had a "theft attempted" message displayed. Seriously impressed with the image / sound quality from the forward facing camera, rear does the job but is nothing special. Records in 3 minute chunks, would recommend it with a larger SD card. The battery life is pretty poor when you take it off the cable which is the only downfall if your taking it into the house to try pull footage off to your phone rather than plugged into a laptop. Will probably get the same again (as not sure I can justify the extra on the 622GW) on the VRS whenever it arrives in 2022.
  35. Don't the new clutches need the clamping pressure calibrating after fitting? I seem to remember reading about this on the VCDS (Ross-Tech) website.

  37. Turned out to be a massive coincidence. I changed the air flow meter, and the lift pump died a day later
  38. Have you seen this: https://blog.caristaapp.com/battery-registration-is-it-just-snake-oil-d04944bb0048?gi=4b790fa4b65b? Carista’s vehicle checker suggests it should work for your car: https://caristaapp.com/vehicles/skoda/fabia/nj see the ‘Advanced Service’ bit 🙂
  39. I know they shortenned the cable but at least they should repair the defect. Also, I got another problem which they said that it is not their fault. I have a warning light about the oil sensor workshop. I have to call the dealer to see what is about as they couldn`t find the code fault.
  40. Thank you. I know that those cables should be in that position but the mechanics put them back like that after they changed the shock absorbers. I went back to them and, they are changing the cables free of charge as it was their fault.
  41. All the same problems with my car in Ireland. Wish I never sold my mk3.5 rs. I have a pain in my hoop with this mk4.
  42. Track day successful. Didn't blow up or slide off. But got black flagged on the first outing for being too loud.
  43. I've had this issue too, it's clearly a common problem across the VAG range but Skoda UK and the dealers won't admit it exists.
  44. I have had my octavia 3 weeks and it’s so annoying that my car slows down when overtaking on acc. My previous Hyundai had acc and never ever had an issue with vehicles in other lanes.
  45. I think you're talking about this pump - https://www.autodoc.co.uk/bosch/14762024 (I think this is the secondary water pump that circulates coolant after you turn the engine off) This is unlikely to be the culprit for a coolant leak, it'll be the main £350 pump that's failed (or more specifically, the housing of which will have developed a leak). If you're able to buy genuine VW Group part of these - https://www.awesomegti.com/ea888-gen-3-water-pump-repair-kit/ - for £80, I suggest you buy as many as you can and start selling them on eBay for £250, you'll make a fortune.
  46. Could be 2 things: 1) The engine is under less load so not producing as much boost. 2) They have done it on purpose to make you think you are getting more boost in sport mode.
  47. Mine did this very infrequently at the beginning, then after recent software updates it's got much worse, so interesting to see I'm not the only one. Garage said they couldn't replicate the fault when I took it in a couple of months ago - when it goes in for it's next service I'm reporting it again and will make sure they take it on some dual to test it. Getting quite annoying now as I have to keep checking the dash as I overtake which means my eyes are not on the road where they should be...almost makes it not worth using.
  48. Well it is possible... Works perfectly in my MK3: Did you reboot the headunit after making the change by holding the power button for 10-20s until the boot logo was displayed?
  49. I'm humbled by the kindness of strangers. I posted on Sunday about having a mirror indicator smashed. @varaderoguy offered me a pair of used oem ones for postage. It's now Wednesday and I've got a working mirror. This is what forums should be about!

. Not being able to get my passenger side mirror to dip in reverse was a bit of a disappointment. It was the first modification I tried with Carista. It's an incredibly useful thing, and I don't really understand why all new cars with electric mirrors don't have it as standard. It's not like it would be particularly onerous to build it in, after all. Much more useful than being able to change the colour of a weedy little LED strip in the dashboard. Ambient lighting? Pah. Saving yourself the agonising graunch of alloy on kerb? You bet. .
