  1. Lots legislation needed in the UK before they should be legal. Grant Shapps will get ripped to shreads.
  2. See if you can persuade surgeon or anaesthetist to take some pics during the op for some 'unusual engine bay pics' for the thread?? Best of luck buddy; but don't worry, they won't let you die on the table, too much paperwork!
  3. Too many idiots ride these, so hope they ban them. That said, perhaps introduce some kind of CBT to teach road safety, then plate them up so people can be held liable for their stupid actions as there can be a place for those on todays world of drive sensibly.
  4. That car has slipped it's timing and the pistons have tickled the valve heads, it's a head off job I'm afraid. I'm not saying the vendor knew before selling it to you, but I think it's extremely likely.
  5. Last day of freedom for a good few days as go under the saw and knife tomorrow at 9am now that I’ve had the final CT scan with dye put in my blood so they can see in internal workings of my heart in order to size up my replacement valve. This is going to be a tissue valve this time, most likely a cow rather than human! Also had a lung function test. Touch wood that this one lasts the distance given my lifestyle. Started the day by giving the student nurse the wrong name and date of birth as she was giving me my daily meds to see if she was on the ball… then refused the pills as they were “the boring type of pills”! Could hear my usual nurse chuckling behind me Oh the little things to keep my spirits up! And the nurses love the banter in all honesty! Thankfully, it’s another beautiful morning, so taken myself outside for the last bit of sunshine and fresh air for a fair few days, then final chats with the surgeon and anaesthetist this evening so they can reiterate the risks and go through the finer details of surgery and plethora of drugs I’m gonna be given. Looking forward to the Oxycodone, which is much better than morphine 😛 Already thinking about my recovery and trying to decide where I want to go on holiday during my recovery as that’s gotta be good for me, right!??!

Let me chime in.. First off, I can give you a little bit of inside information (my father was a manager in one of the biggest Porsche (VAG) dealerships in Slovenia for 10 years), for anyone who is not familliar with how VAG works in Europe.. Basically, they prioritise deliveries based on the market share a certain country has in regards to their cars.. For example, Slovenia is a small market, meaning we can expect longer delivery times than Germany, Italy, France, UK etc.. Apparently, in the past, the managers of dealerships had to negotiate with their Uber-ober bosses in Germany as to what kind of priority a country or a dealership gets.. The less influence a manager has, the worst it is for the whole market or a dealership. I think that is also why some of us in small EU countries have to endure appalling delivery times, as opposed to smn in a bigger, more profitable county I ordered the car end of August 2021, was said 6 months delivery time.. It is now nearing 9 months since then. I got the VIN number last month, car was built in the meantime, delivery date postponed to week 19 (next week), with the comment of " your car is awaiting parts" And now, we wait
  7. Maybe a slight tangent, but hopefully germane, renewing online at/for age 70 means you will lose groups C1, ie vans/camper/towing more than 3500 Kgs MAM, and also D1, minibuses with >8 seats. To keep these you must apply by post, with medical evidence.
  8. All the best, buddy I'm sure you'll be back to cheeking the nurses in no time 😁
  9. So the alternator of my 120GLS gave up the spirit and stopped charging, changing the brushes is a no go because it is rusted shut tight, so I chucked it into the side and took an AC DELCO 10SI alternator I had left over from the days when I thought American cars were good. The AC DELCO 10SI fits into the alternator bracket perfectly, but the adjustment rail does not because the 10SI has mounts in the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, the pal magnetron or whatever had them in the "I'm not done eating" positions I think. What you can do is take a piece of scrap metal, bolt it to the 12 o'clock ear, lean it against the alternator body and bolt it to the adjustment rail. Belt tension now can be adjusted by pivoting the whole rail instead, I do it that way instead of sliding it on the rail because my alternators somehow tend to slide to the end of the rail anyway for some reason, even the original one. Wiring it is stupid simple, I am stupid and simple and managed to figure it out anyway. The 10SI has only 2 wires, 3 if you count the positive cable goung to the starter solenoid. The 2 pins at the top of the alternator in the voltage regulator should be labelled 1 and 2. You can run wires from the Škoda voltage regulator straight to the alternator, shouldn't break anything. You might mix up the wires though because I had no idea which one goes where. If the alternator charges less than 14 volts, you got them backwards, flip them around. Or you can just run the wire from pin number 2 to the positive terminal that hoes to the starter solenoid, pin 2 is only used to tell the alternator when to charge. It shouldn't matter which one of the original voltage regulator wires goes to pin 1, at least for me both triggered the idiot light, I believe it's only used to excite the alternator. You probably could fo away with the whole external regulator and run just some random 12v line to pin number 1, as long as the wire gets 12v when accessory power is on and shuts off when it should. Tl;dr AC DELCO 10SI fits into a Skoda 742 105/120/Estelle with one simple modification
  10. Issue resolved it was in fact as TMB pointed out this was holding the barrels into the lock ring, I took a long screwdriver and applied gentle pressure to the bottom of the lockring which allowed the barrels to slide out. Thanks all as always lesson learnt lol :P

Prior to my Octavia I had a Peugeot 407 that had one of those push in to open ash trays (like the fuel flap on the Octy) and a small Nokia phone. One day while at work I thought the phone would be a perfect fit for the ashtray and popped it in and closed the tray, low and behold no matter how I pushed it the ash tray would not open. Cue a very annoyed and embarrassed me, had to wait until I got home to get the torx screwdrivers to remove first the radio then the climate control panel to retrieve my phone. Never made that mistake again 😃
  12. Fitted my new steering wheel today it's not a big job to do but you have to take your time with it all the plugs are the same the steering wheel and airbag fit with no problems the steering wheel nut can be reused up to 5 and the taque settings are 30nm+90°.the steering wheel and airbag I used was from a 2019 karoq sportline and the switchs are from a 2013 fabia vrs
  13. Compression readings Pressure New engine 2,5 ... 3.1 MPa (25.0 ... 31.0 bar) Wear limit 1,9 MPa (19,0 bar) Max. permissible difference between the cylinders 0,5 MPa (5,0 bar) @J.R. yes diesel pressures are quite a bit higher

That seems to be true, because i ordered my car in 21 august, just like you, however my estimated wait time is 19 months, i don't have VIN number or any specific information, only prelimanary build week. Well, i think if i ever get car, this will be my last experience with Skoda or VAG. Already cursed that day when decided to order Skoda
  15. It's not electrical, that compression is far too low, particularly on number four which suggests valve damage.
  16. All check your PMs
  17. It fixed ACC for sure. Infotainment seems all good as well. Really happy with the outcome
  18. We are getting there! Various fixes to wiring and one new sensor have got the car starting and running. Everything is back together. Lots of leaks fixed, lots or repairs done. The final hurdle to pass a Warrant of Fitness is a cracked gearbox mount which they are testing to see if it can be welded.
  19. Love these barn finds. That one is in spectacular condition considering.
  20. Error seems relatively obscure to match to battery coding, especially if that is only error. More likely a solenoid is not moving fully, sliding across enough to lock the door, but not fully home, so it is not detected as in locked position. Could be as simple as locks need some lubrication, or a minor realignment.
  21. Personally of the 4 options I never use that one. The twin dial or expanded navigation panel and no dials are more use to me. On your example above you can change what is displayed either side via the options and the dial itself is only marginally different. Is it worth the risk of trying to upgrade/ change and it going wrong. The software in the latest cars seems very iffy to me?
  22. Most anything can be tweaked.

Basically exactly the same for mine. Cancelled my order a few days ago and got a Kodiaq arriving tomorrow morning, practically new.
  24. I am all for registration, insurance and even a test, I have my bike licences for two wheels and insurance and happy to add my scooter on this. I think the rental scheme has many idiots using it so a proper registration for e-scooters could improve things and the benefits for air quality in cities is good.
  25. Yeah, I have two ceiling mounted APs to run the cables to as well. Trying to figure out the best placement for them with the layout of the house, but having a nightmare trying to plan in 3d. I'm not sure if Americans only have single-floor houses or if businesses ignore the floor above/below them when planning or not but all the advice I read and every planner seems to only talk about single floor layouts. Might just have one up, one down at opposite ends of the house at this rate. Won't be using the wifi much in the kitchen anyways, may as well have that end on the floor above near the bedrooms. Next decision is whether I need to put an AP on the side of the house for garden coverage, or whether to run an armoured ethernet cable underground to the end of the garden and have a point there to cover any dead spots from the house APs (I want a PoE camera in the shed but the Mrs isn't too happy with me digging a trench for a cable amongst the precious plants). Good to know the ELV/LV distinction from a regs point of view. Means I can probably run mostly on common sense and best practice without worrying about doing anything really wrong 👍🏻

Lost a bank passbook and my damn passport a few months back. Ripped the house apart, ripped the car a part or so I thought. I knew that if I found the passbook I’d find my passport, but to no avail. Ended up cancelling my passport as reported lost 3 weeks ago as I need it for a holiday later this year. Found it today inside the dashboard of my Octavia. When closing the glovebox the passport and bank book had tipped out and landed behind the glovebox inside the dashboard. So if you are missing anything, selling or buy an Octavia check behind the glovebox, you never know what you might find. ****ed off is an understantment.
  27. This week a 60 year old musician had a brick dropped on his helmeted head by 4 yobs wanting to steal his e-scooter. Luckily not badly hurt. Lots of coverage on the radio. Not one person except me asked if police confiscated the e-scooter he was riding illegally on a public path.
  28. Wish I'd thought of that when my fistula was being superficialised!
  29. So some more rapid charging hubs I heard have opened this week. 12 x 350kW Gridserve chargers at Thurrock services opened today, both older 60kW units remain. Applegreen (new to market) have a 6 x 150kW charger hub at South Mimms which opened this week.
  30. Merci beaucoup ☺️
  31. Bon rétablissement!
  32. While I appreciate that this isn't even remotely helpful, I've given up wondering why the technology used in cars is about five years behind that which is commonplace - and virtually fault-free - in mobile phones. It's not as if they haven't got the money to throw at it, after all. My car won't do remote destination inputs to the satnav even though it's supposed to. Do I need it? No, I don't. I've wasted too much time arranging software updates at the dealership only to have them either not fix it or be withdrawn at the last minute because the boffins at HQ decided that it wasn't the answer after all. Wouldn't be the first time I've hankered for times past when we didn't have all of this stuff, and it won't be the last. Twiddling a knob on a radio to change station or winding down a window to ask for directions wasn't that hard, really. Yours faithfully Victorian Dad

I'm going to throw my toys from the pram... So, my estimated delivery date of 1 May has come and gone. I ordered in early November '21 and have other more than an order number. My dealer knows nothing. All communication with Skoda UK is politely deflected and now my last e-mail to Skoda has been pushed back to the dealer! The lack of communication and customer care is stunning. Then I read on here that some of you are getting weekly updates...I'll take some that action! When/how does that occur?
  34. I also had the ghost light, and after replacing it, it stopped. So it seems a new one sorts it. Likely a faulty senior.
  35. I recently raised the rear courtesy light with my garage and they replaced it. Since then no more ghostly activity!
  36. Remember one thing, don't feel that you need to buy a VW Group extra key, VX and some others used the same ranges as VW Group, so matching a picture to what is selling on ebay worked for me twice. They are McGard parts, but others available on ebay have worked for me and I always use a torque wrench and wheels get swopped about Summer<>Winter each year. Once you have looked long enough on places like ebay you will be able to get to know the VX and other's number/letter equivalent to your VW Group one, sometimes the marking on the "top" end of the key is not too clear, not punched deep enough - but it should be there, unless it is an aftermarket replacement key, though for obvious reasons they too, in my limited experience come identified with a letter or number.

This is the BMW version of it... Must be a glut or job lot on offer, seen one of these and it's not good.
  38. I think your picture is the same stuff in a different language https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/owatrol-oil/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyMiTBhDKARIsAAJ-9Vuq-Coq4XoMWBdSAK_aUhQyim6RGX576iWFZskexSD_wIMXfao_t6oaAiChEALw_wcB I used Owatrol on the sump from the 0.5l cans brushed on after being poured into a jam jar. I've since used the spray cans on suspension parts and hard to get to places. Try a can of each to start with.
  39. 😆😆😆 Dsg gate...

I've had my 2011 Octavia vRS a few weeks now and am super happy with it After nosing about on here since buying I thought I'd better join the fun.
  41. I have gotten my car back from the dealer. Reading from the log: They did a check and found errors in the software. This lead to some kind of software configuration according to the TPI 2066197. After that a software update. Now the WiFi is available in the settings menu and I can both use carplay and Android auto wireless.
  42. I’ve now got 3 cars on order to cover options, Skoda, Hyundai and Kia. First one to be on a ship gets my money, not bothered which. All with option to cancel if I want
  43. Picked it up today and I have to say, I'm very pleased with it. The ACC/lane keeping thingy is a revelation especially coming from a car that had a temperamental CC button. Only done just over 100 miles thus far so will be racking up the miles over the coming weeks as it's going to Ireland in June and I need to know it's everything that was sold to me as.
  44. G'day from Sunny Queensland, where it is currently raining Bought our first Skoda about 9 months ago. Octavia Style Wagon with Tech and Luxury Packs, Panoramic sunroof, in Velvet red metallic paint. The 1.4 TSI is quite a surprising little package. Perky and responsive, without torque steer - amazing for a FWD😲. All-round brilliant for a daily driver and country cruising. Looking forward to chatting with you all. 45. I've just acquired a used Skoda Kamiq 1.0 TSI SE L. 69 plate. Currently ploughing through the 150 page owner's handbook. Not driven far in it yet but liking it so far.
  46. Thank you guys. I wouldn't normally spill my guts to the internet, but I had to do something in order for me to move past the initial fear and become the positive, cheeky chappie I need to be to get through this. Normally, I would bounce stuff off Zee, but with her being in work I felt it wasn't fair to drop it on her at that point. A positive mental attitude does great things. Much more than some people realise. After getting all that off my chest, I felt much better. Even more so after bumping into my consultant cardiologist on my way out for some fresh air. We had a very good and frank chat about all manor of things, which reassured me further. I also now understand that the deterioration of the Aortic Valve that was put in back in 2015 was expected due to they type they had to use for the emergency surgery I needed at that point. No time to prepare and / or set things up like they are able to this time. Shame they didn't explain that to us at the time as that would have saved a lot of worry and would have prepared us much better for the news I got yesterday. Oh well! @mac11irl Your post hit the nail on the head That's exactly what was explained by my consultant later yesterday afternoon after my above posts. And you're also bang on abut us men all too often putting on a brave face when we are feeling our worst. That is what nearly cost me my life back in 2015, which of course I learnt from and am now much more open about my thoughts and feelings. Not everyone likes that new side of me Thanks for sharing your experience @TMB and sending me some positive vibes 👍 That is also a very unpleasant and worrying thing to go through. Glad it all worked out for you
  47. The ones that do suck out oil and do not change the sump plug but charge for a sump plug and VAT are thieves so if you know they do that tell them they are cheating you and HMRC. It has been too common for years, £2 hear, £3 there and 20% VAT as well. But that is why some get called stealers. That is like those that do a Fixed Price Service as it was and not even look in an Air Box let alone replace an air filter. 50 customers a week charged £3 for something not supplied is £150, times 47 weeks a year is £7,500, times 10 years £75,000 of fraud. Buy the plugs to keep the Accountant / HMRC happy and then pass them on to someone to sell on e-bay and more income. Do the same a few times a day to customers with windscreen wash on the invoice when not any used and that is a nice wee earner.
  48. To my surprise I got both tailgate struts replaced under the "All in Service Plan" warranty and a 50k service without having to pay anything at Trans City Skoda, Walthamstow. The current offer worth it and they now have a spring sale on so it costs only £25.50 per month.
  49. Nearly two months on and I've had no further problems, reseating the tyre must have cured the leak.
