  1. No apologies for dumbing down this thread, but if the Govt want the masses to go for EV instead of ICE cars then they need bigger carrots and smaller sticks in their approach. What that looks like is probably an individual thing but I'll start with sorting out the charging infrastructure - increased availability of fast charging points, charging points that actually work, and in places where people want to stop on long journeys (so not only in the supermarket car park).
  2. This update was long overdue, but hey I had to wing most of this. First a little piece of advice that I thought of in a dream, and not accidentality did to myself at all: if you are planning to get sick for over a fortnight and have a car with a dodgy battery that can barley last that, do not store your tools in the boot behind an electronically controlled boot lid, saving yourself from having to climb from the front drivers seat to the boot. Especially in an estate. No I will not expand on this any further. But first real story: The Washening For the first time in a while, good weather came around and I wanted to give my carpet cleaner a try on me seats and carpets. The car does feel fresher with a do-over. The befores: The Afters: extra stuff Dungadungadungadungadungan’s foglight shenanigans part 2 Once again, going into ridiculous details for anyone wanting to DIY the foglights in themselves. First to get out of the way is the ordering of components and soldering: Next up will be the installing of the wiring (Or consider this Part 2 of Part 2 of Part 2...) Part 3: Wiring logic now finally, after a long time of arse-sitting, wiring magic and guesswork, I have my lights fully working For future changes, I might either try to rewire the fog light switch to be like the typical VAG fog switch or attempt to have an indicator flash for the DRL too, but I really don’t like the idea of playing with the VCU. Also may still write a better detailed guide on wiring if the need be, but I won’t be surprised if there is some obviously better ways to do or improve this
  3. Some follow-up on Halfords failing to code my new battery fitted by them. Everything was working OK, but I was worried about the longevity of the battery and was going to find someone local with a VCDS as suggested by this forum. However, I have a Vgate adapter with WiFi connection anyway and started looking at the diagnostics with different softwares on my Android phone. To my surprise the CarScanner App actually has the ability to do quite a lot of coding built into it for certain models (incl. most Skodas) - google car scanner to get to their site and look at the tab for "coding and service" It shows which cars it will code. Note that to see the coding button on the app you need to have setup a connection profile for your Skoda first in settings (for my Octavia 3 1.2 TSI it is the second profile on the Skoda list) and it has to be connected to the car CPU by WiFi or Bluetooth, whichever you have on your adapter. When you start, it strongly recommends that you backup all your car settings before changing anything and warns that it takes some time (about 5-10 minutes) Then I scrolled to the battery section and it has the standard 4 parameters: Capacity, Type, Manufacturer and Serial number. I changed all of them as suggested in this forum. Capacity from 59 Ah to 70 Ah, Type from EFB to Fleece (for AGM) manufacturer from JCB to HAL and changed the serial number from 11111111111 to 11111111112. It happily accepted all of these parameters and showed them as the stored parameters when I looked later. A word of warning - the free version of CarScanner only lets you change 3 parameters so I had to buy the pro version for £4 halfway through programming, but if you don't want to buy it, then don't change the manufacturer code as that is the only one which doesn't actually need changing and just change the serial number to make it realise that you have a new battery plus the capacity and type if you need to. Everything still works OK and hopefully it will be charging correctly now, but I am not going to play around with any of the other myriad of settings it will let me code. There you are - Battery coding for a few pounds.

While i wait to see if my 1* Arnold Clark review goes live on Trust Pilot i was reading others reviews. It is amazing to me that they sit almost all the time with 4.6 stars. http://www.uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.arnoldclark.com?stars=1
  6. Thanks JR for the offer, you're around 2.5 hrs away from me, I just got back on a local trip from picking up a set of winter steels, 15inches, with reasonable tread for 50 euros. So I'm happy about that.. Update to this thread, my broker says they'll base value of write off on other cars for sale in area, ( 1 only in Belgium ) and what i paid , and expenses for oil cooler etc, hopefully if worst happens I'll get most of money back and possibly have some very nice refurbished Zenith 18s in the shed still..
  7. Sadly all too true. Your ideas a way too good for any Govt to enact 🙄
  8. Skoda garage quoted £115 to supply 3 sparkplugs and fit !!! Are they difficult to fit DIY as I'm not paying £115 , when I can buy 3 sparkplugs for £18 Cheers Steve
  9. ICE vehicles will be around for a long time yet. Yes the proportion of new sales will drop a bit now but will then increase just before the ban comes in but either way ICE vehicles will still be on the road 25 years from now
  10. Truth of the matter. In the EU and in the UK the car makers have to meet Fleet Average Co2 emission figures. So manufacturers that have not the pure ICE vehicles and electrified ones to meet the requirement without being fined for all cars with too high emissions they partner with manufacturers with low / zero emission vehicles. VW with MG/ SAIC and others, JLR with Tesla. So the kidology / rationing is happening. AKA as cheating. Now the UK has its own Fleet average and the EU it's own. Loopholes. Grey areas, and downright kidology.

Got some news last week! I'm picking my Octavia RS on Friday, exactly 13 months after ordering it.
  12. @JamesGornellThat Recall might be because the 'Service Campaign / Recall Action' as started in Europe in 2017 on 2013-2015 DQ200's was missed in NewZealand, or like in Australia in 2019 had to be done / restarted. That was '34H5' in Europe and a Software Update only. The 4 hour in NewZealand is the same as the 2012 Recall which was '34F7' when new MCU's were fitted. Ask at a dealership, or ask Skoda. '34F7' http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/315115-service-campaigndq200-dsg-oil-changeecu-update-fabias-in-uk See first post re New Zealand. '34H5' http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/425424-2017-another-dq200-7-speed-dsg-service-campaign There is another Service Campaign that i have only seen reported by a member from Israel. Then the one in Australia again in 2019. See post by @OzFabiawho is in Australia. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/315115-service-campaign-dq200-dsg-oil-changeecu-update-fabia-in-uk/page/9 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/315115-service-campaign-dq200-dsg-oio-changeecu-update-fabias-in-uk/page/8 ............................................ A DQ200 DSG will change up to 2nd very quickly from starting off, maybe even by 6 mph / 10 kmph as the doors are auto locking. It might not drop into 1st when stopping until you are almost stopped. If concerned in New Zealand about your DSG talk to Skoda because Skoda NZ are surely not like Skoda / VW Europe were they treat the owners like crap. In China VW Group put 10 year / 100,000 mile warranties on the DQ200 DSG,s when the 2012 World Wide REcall which excluded Europe was started. So surely after a 2020 recall in New Zealand Skoda can not just wash their hands of an issue / fault if there are any. I suspect your DSG is fine though. PS A DQ200 DSG in a 1.4 TSI in an Octavia is the same box as in a heavier 1.6TDI Superb but with different Software, but really comparing them is like apples and pears. The RPM change ups obviously are very different, but the speed is much of a muchness.
  13. Absolutely he is talking male bovine feces.

Three years already! It been nearly 3 years since I purchased my 2.0TSI Karoq Sportline and the time had come for us to part ways. I did want a Kodiaq but could only afford a 2 year old model. A 2.0 TSI Sportline base spec was around 42K. Wife dislikes the Octavia and the Superb when I sat in it was nice but was too big. For me to buy a new 2.0 TSI I was looking at just over 40K with options(adaptive cruise control, virtual dash, spare wheel, red paint) Canton was not on the option list anymore. So I test drove a 1.5 TSI DSG(148BHP V 187BHP) and was surprised, it didn’t feel that much slower on the motorway but 0-60 is 9 seconds rather than 6.8 seconds. Could I live with this performance after 187 BHP? At 44 years old am I still deep down a bit of a boy racer? I ordered the car in at the end of January and I picked my new car up on the 19/04/23. List price £35k with options(DSG, virtual dash, Red, adaptive cruise and spare wheel), although when I picked the car up the price would be now £37400, there was a price increase on the 03/04/23 across the Skoda. The very helpful salesman(Jonny @ Winchester Skoda) advised every Kodiaq now is above 40K and all would be in the higher car tax bracket. Scary. I had no deposit either so used the equity in my car as a deposit, plus there was a contribution of £1750 from Skoda. What do I miss about my old car: I don’t drive like a hooligan but if you accelerate from a stand still quickly the wheels spin, downside of FWD rather than 4WD I suppose I miss the fake engine noise, the 1.5 TSI sounds strained upon acceleration Canton. Was very good sounding system and very bass heavy. What I don’t miss: Creaking dashboard, intermittent of course! Long runs I could achieve on average 41 MPG but that would be driving at 70MPH, if I wanted to have fun on a back road this dipped to 17 MPG New car likes: Android auto is wireless. Is a lighter car, feels lighter to drive. 2.0 TSI felt heavy and very SUV like. 1.5 TSI feel more like a hatchback. Fuel economy, after 100 miles driven this week my average is 40MPG without even trying. There are little subtle changes to the interior, steering wheel and controls. Feels more solid than my old car Easy to drive It’s RED, I love red cars and have received a few positive comments about the car already. When I was collecting the car a bloke enquired about how much it was and how the colour really ‘popped’ 5 insurance groups lower , cheaper to insure. New car dislikes: 19 inch wheel look tiny, I think there is too much space between the wheel and the body, am just nit-picking really. That’s it. I'm very pleased with my car and looking forward to driving many more miles in it.
  16. Ask yourself how wheel alignment could actually be "set" to one side or the other on a steered axle and you will have answered your question.
  17. Yes, I am based in the UK If it is deemed I have been misleading and inaccurate that certainly wasn't my intention. I wasn't aware of differing methods of delivering TMC live traffic updates, so if my system is different to the one being discussed, my bad.
  18. Isn't this the engine type where a carelessly replaced oil filter ends up with an old seal stuck and duplicated when the new filter goes on? Leading to low oil pressure. Not sure why it's not triggering a warning, but maybe not quite low enough? Did the noisiness start shortly after an oil service? When was the last oil service? What exact oil was used? What part number of filter?
  19. Update successful, thanks! Will try AA now 🤞
  20. That 15% will increase as people realise they wont be able to teplace thier ICE vehicle with another one. As to the MX5 comments you clearly missed the raison d'etre as they were never meant to be fast. But each to thier own so I'll ignore that bit Re EV costs... Yes they will come down over time as we move from 'early adoption' to relatively common.
  21. The standalone sat nav may well be getting TMC information from another provider (Inrix) which is why it works. Trafficmaster were providing it to VW (among others)
  22. Also have you checked all the engine mounts in particular the restrictor under the car between gearbox and body. Sometimes the securing bolt shears or can be loose.
  23. I have a 2019 Karoq and TMC stopped working about 2 weeks ago. My sister in law has a VW Golf of a similar age and it is not working on that car either. Neither of us subscribe to on-line services. My wife has a stand alone Mio Sat Nav and TMC is working fine on this. Clearly the issue appears to be with VW group vehicles (possibly others) and TMC still appears to be broadcast. My car is due for MOT/Service at my local dealership on Wednesday so I will raise this on the basis that it is not an issue only relating to my vehicle and whether they can shed any light on when/how this will be rectified, suggesting they clarify via Skoda centrally. I will post again if I get anywhere. Having an in car Sat Nav which is unable to flag an overnight closure on a busy motorway - as happened to me last week - is of limited use. Clearly there are numerous other people experiencing the same problems
  24. @jls60860 Thankfully I didn't need to translate what you wanted. I will send you a PM.
  25. Posted on the other thread about this, but after calling Trafficmasted I was told that they turned off the RDS-TMC broadcasts at the end of March as it's no longer supported !
  26. Good plan Joek666, don't let them touch your car. My local dealer even confirmed his own car was showing the same problems (and that was a Golf). I'm waiting for a callback from them as we speak to see if they've had anything on their tech "hub"
  27. Where do you live, someone on here may be near by and can scan your car. There's also a vcds map in the forum
  28. Name and Shame the dealer?
  29. There are also some made by SuperPro that can give you up to 2 degrees postive caster: SPF4178K 9995-SPF4178K-5-4176IS.pdf

Nor me, however my work colleague has a PCP with Audi who have for the last 6 months or so, being trying to get him to upgrade to a newer model even though he still has a year left to run on his existing plan. I think the massive surge in 2nd hand prices now means that the dealers can get more profit from early return of the old car and swapping for a new one.
  31. Arnold Clark, the EV experts, over 60 EVs to choose from with expect advice from the staff, hmmm.
  32. HGV Drivers require 'Halt / rest services with toilets and facilities road side the length and breadth of the UK roads network'. These should be 'Publicly owned land and facilities and could be transport hubs for EV charging vehicle small and large', and should take priority of land use before any more homes or industrial sites or retail ones get planning permission. If franchised there has to be restrictions on the prices / tariffs and profits the operators charge and get. Using training facilities and production lines, Pre fabricated / scaled to meet the locations and built by trainees / apprentices as part of a job creation scheme for the youth and unemployed in the UK. Not going to happen though.

So, been on the phone to my local dealer. Guy I talked to was sound, buy he said they can only see limited information on the system. Told me it was last serviced at a skoda dealer in Plymouth. So been on the phone to them, and they said very similar. Altho they did the last 2 services on the vehicle. But only filters and oil changed. So, from the little knowledge I've gained, it's sounding like, at a minimum, the plugs nor the diff oil have been changed.
  34. That looks promising! Thanks very much
  35. More likely that virtual nobody will want ICE cars unless it is a real enthusiasts model ie Ferrari with a great engine sound track, as running an EVs will be so much cheaper than running an ICE car. The inventory of Chinese brands is equivalent to 54 days of sales, the stock of joint venture garages is 64 days, and the stock of luxury brand cars is equivalent to 70 days of sales. According to the disclosure, more than 75% of the inventory is ICEs, while the rest is PHEVs and EVs. Considering that PHEVs and EVs account for more than 35% of the total sales in the Chinese market, EVs’ stock is equivalent to approximately 40-50 days of sales. ICEs’ stock is equivalent to approximately 70 days of sales. We are already seeing it in China where EVs cost no more than a ICE car but cost a fraction to run as electricity is a tiny fraction of the energy running cost of buying Hydrocarbon fuel. Chinese manufacturers are now turning their attention to flood Europe and USA, following on from the successful sales of MG cars and of course TESLA which the Model Y will be the best selling car in most large markets. https://carnewschina.com/2023/03/21/china-had-3-41-million-cars-in-stock-in-february-2023/ Dealerships, particularly those with a small percentage of EV sales, will continue to go to the wall by the hundreds a thousands as percentage of cars on the road quickly slip from being ICE to being EV and as the EV servicing costs are a fraction of ICE those delears are no longer financial viable when you can pick up your TESLA from the docks and hardly ever see a servicing garage. Not a shortage of ICE cars, a glut of ICE cars that can only be sold with big discount and anybody with more than a modicum of economic sense will avoid as electricity becomes abundantly cheap and Arab controlled oil supplies squeeze supply to keep it commodity price high.
  36. They have gone beyond anything that VW Group / Skoda have done in Europe, just as happened in New Zealand with the 2012 Recall where new MCU's were fitted. They are fixing a possible fault, dangerous event like loss of drive. Software update '34H5' was likely a VW attempt of as cheap a possible fix they could get away with when started in 2017 on some 2013-2015 DQ200's. By 2020 they appear to be doing what they had to in New Zealand to fix a fundamental design, manufacturing or material fault. Probably because New Zealand's courts or authority could tear them a new one as Ausstralia, China, North America, Canada can. In Europe VW is the boss and they get away with any old crap. PS I hope you do not mind if i link this thread when those on here that get landed with cars that cost them a couple of thousand quid to fix because of a failed DQ200 DSG that VW Group / Skoda just wash their hands of because out of Manufacturers Warranty. As it is people have had to go for Kits others have produced and manufactured and paid their own money because VW Group are chancers that get away with their behaviour in Europe.
  37. The recirculation duct collides with the manifold, too? That's probably the reason why 1.9D was never equipped with factory AC... Only Alex evaporator box fit around the intake.
  38. *EDIT* The invoice doesn't mention any type of software updates (i.e 34H5) , @toot do you think they would have carried out any updated necessary as best practice when they did this work? (even if it's not been listed)
  39. Called the Skoda dealer that the car was purchased from. They were more than happy to help confirming the work was done and even providing me with the invoice (they did hide the costs though) See what was done, I hope this helps someone else at some point 👍
  40. Unless there are huge changes of mind by whatever UK government there will need to be hundreds of thousands of charging points going in at workplaces, on streets and many other places over the next decade as new ICE cars will not be getting sold in the UK in less than 8 years time. There will still be millions on the roads though and ones being bought new up to 2030. No way do 60% of properties or properties that have residents with motor vehicles have off street parking.
  41. My independent garage just ordered my drivers side loom from his usual trade parts supplier (not Skoda/VW) .... he rings them in the morning and they deliver ... I took it in to him first thin and, in my case, the wiring loom replacement job was ready by about 4pm.

  44. Well it finally finished updating or upgrading itself today, don't know what its done to itself, but this is now what I've got on my car.

Back in June 2022 I considered purchasing Superb mk3 280, Arteon R or Kia Stinger. As the Stinger was only RWD, I focused on Arteon and Superb. After some time, I have decided to go with Superb because was about £7k cheaper and most imporatntly everything could be controlled with buttons, no stupid touch bars, to change temperature, etc. Long story short, I collected my Superb L&K 280 in March 2023. I have put 1200 miles so far, and believe it or not, I am very disapointed with this car. DSG is probably the biggest disaster as it is lazy, laggy, slow and stupid. If driving in Normal mode, getting to the roundabout/junction, unless I completly stop the car and give it 2-3 seconds, the car will set of with 2nd gear engaged, no need to tell you how much strain you put on clutches. Second annoyance is how quickly the gears are shifted to 5/6. If you are going around a big roundabout and you get to 25-30mph you will see 5th if not 6th gear engaged. Why is it annoying - imagine driving on a road with speed limit of 70mph. And here is the roundabout, so you slow down, go around and you want to accelerate to 70mph but your car is already in 6th gear at ~35mph, and if you push the accelerator down, nothing happenes, so you press it even further, and nothing happenes, and you press harder and all of the sudden car goes like crazy... The only solution to this is to drive it always in Sport mode. I won't mention stupid Start/Stop because I always switch it off. And when it comes to predictive ACC, I simply switched it off because the car will read ANY sign in its sight, and if you are on a motorway doing 70mph but on the slip road there is 20mph speed limit, the car will hang you in your seatbelts and another driver will make a garage of your back. I would imagine that Octavia mk4 is no less annoying. Back in 2012 I purchased brand new Superb mk2, and was very happy with it. As a result I got another Superb but I start to hating it. I do not wan to put any boxes, or devices that are suppose to "improve" ride quality for number of reasons. Sadly this experience aligns with what I read on forums. The only thing that is not as bad as I read on forums is DCC, which for the time being is OK. And thus the question about you hating Arteon as after owing the Superb I cannot explain how happy I am that I saved £7k and did not go with Arteon. And still I am extremly upset that Stinger was not available with 4x4 but if someone does not mind 370hp on rear wheels only, I'd stay clear from VAGs and got this Kia.
