  1. Car back, picked up and collected by salesman. Two new tyres, car checked for a tremor at higher speed. All 4 wheel balanced car tested with promise that appears to be sorted. Plenty of comms from salesman and service manager. Ok not the perfect start to new car ownership but I'll give credit to the dealer for handling the problem well.
  2. Lovely to see the Bluebells are emerging........
  3. Is it Africa or rural Fife...?
  4. I don't understand this review at all. I have ordered many times from this company - including twice in the last 2 months to the UK. The first thing they ask is confirmation that you understand the need to cover import charges but once you confirm this then the items are shipped and arrive via Parcelforce in about 3-4 days. Even with import duty the parts I have ordered from them have all been around 30% cheaper than buying from a dealer in the UK and some of their 3rd party accessories are simply not available to buy in the UK. I ordered some quite large items from them including roof bars & side skirts for my Yeti - no issue with sizing whatsoever. All items have arrived in perfect condition - their 3rd party accessories are very good quality - I am very satisfied with them as a customer. The only thing I would say is to check what you're ordering VERY carefully to be 100% certain it's the correct item for your car, as trying to communicate with them for returns is quite difficult - mostly seems to be because of the language barrier. As for never replying - they have ALWAYS replied to me, but my email software does file their replies in SPAM folder so it's worth checking in there.
  5. Needing a larger family car that would cope with long journeys I started digging around for something. I was mainly after something interesting. So after spotting a Maserati Quattroporte online I popped up to drive it and after a short and fruitful haggle I bought a Maserati Quattroporte V6d. It's fairly rapid (275hp), huge inside, and possibly the quietest car I've ever driven. The ICE is dated (probably dated when it was new) but does bluetooth and DAB and that's 95% of my needs. Some of the switchgear is a bit meh (Chrysler stock) other parts of the car are pure quality. Dash is walnut and leather. Dealer put on a full set of front disks and pads (OEM), two new front springs (caused a 6 week delay), oil and filter change, and a very good valet. Bought from the dealer owner who owns a GTS version and is clearly a Maserati fan himself, I'm guessing the previous owner was also very careful as it it mint. Already terrified of kerbing the alloys and it's a total PITA to park as it is over 5.2m long. But, just look at it....snaps knicker elastic at 100 yards.

  7. And there's more..... I've raised this issue with Ofcom. They are the government's regulatory body for information services such as FM transmission in the UK and should be able to advise and investigate on who has responsibility for RDS TMC provision including Live Traffic. Fingers crossed !!!
  8. A few from this evening's walk. Apparently the yellow beaked Swan is either a Bewick (from the Russian arctic tundra) or a Whooper (from Iceland) - wintering in the UK.
  9. Definitely not Fife...
  10. Suggest you look at the tread. I started it. It's negative because I got fleeced £40. I'm telling people because I don't want them to lose cash. Stop being a silly child and do one.
  11. Remember that the version being talked about as 1896 or 1900 cannot be taken as being definitive for all the processor modules throughout the vehicle - do a VCDS or OBDeleven scan and you'll see how many different modules running different software there are in an Octavia 4!
  12. Is the car garaged overnight or outside? As per @J.R. did the smell become apparent after refueling? Have you lifted the bonnet to 'see' if the petrol smell comes from that area? Do you have a jerrycan in the car that might not be properly sealed? ( I had to ask) Any old rags in the car used to clean up oil (on dipstick for instance). Older oil can be quite smelly. You are very unlikely to find any sort of petrol puddle under the car unless it is a really major leak it evaporates quickly even in cold weather. And do you have a fire extinguisher to hand in the car?
  13. My experience is exactly the same as 137699 above, I have used them from when they were Superskoda many years ago, to a few months ago and have never had any problems with quality of goods or delivery.
  14. Hi, welcome to the community. that’s a good age of car and if structurally sound, just run in. if uneconomical to repair was heeded more often, we’d have far fewer classic cars of tomorrow. vested interest of a dealer to say this imho. The choice is yours, many of us have thrown good money at bad, sounds like you have an otherwise good l&k Octavia. Second hand prices are really high atm. Would not surprise me if they did the repair and flipped it. Loads of scrapped / reconditioned parts out there. What’s the estimate to repair? Is it with new or like for like? Can you get a new(er) car, one you know every creak and rattle for the same, that won’t have a big repair bill? try a local independent garage. The main dealer prices will be excessive for such an age of vehicle. Continuity at this age adds nothing to the car value. Some peace of mind maybe for you. At least get a second opinion/quote. Let us know how it goes. I’m hopeful a future classic can be saved, and enjoyed.
  15. Glad to help It drove me nuts also, cause I bought a used superb with 80k km on the clock and it started doing this. Dealership in Lithuania is amazing. Mechanic sat in the car with me and immediately said that this is a strange noise and it can't be there. Took the car to the lift, and with a set of stethoscopes after an hour found that this solenoid housing was touching the firewall. When solenoid started to work with a low frequency like 50 Hz, it resonated to the chassis and only inside the car You could hear it.
  16. If one of your wheels is slightly out of true or buckled it won't show up on a normal balancing machine. A normal balancing machine will be happily balance a square wheel as it spins it in air which does not impart any forces into the wheel from the road surface, it is purely a weight distribution balancing operation. Have them checked on a roadforce balancing machine which loads the tyre against a roller while they spin to see if the wheel/tyre assembly is imparting any forces into the hub. Often the tyre can be rotated to allow forces from tyre imperfections to cancel forces from the rim. Not always easy to find a garage with such a machine but I've had wheels that "balance" fine on a traditional machine instantly flagged as being a problem on a roadforce. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjlwufk5Mb-AhXaR_EDHWwBAAUQtwJ6BAgsEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Ds_wnxpR_t0Y&usg=AOvVaw27r9S2nGNipiUy5RqCrAL8
  17. I'm unclear why it would be black. Where did the black come from? Certainly true that gearbox oil loses its lubricity over time (and becomes thin and lifeless) but black implies combustion products (carbon) which you wouldn't expect to find in a gearbox.
  18. My superb 280tsi with 19" wheels and DCC is very smooth on the motorway. Can be a bit crashy over low speed bumps, but that is a different thing. Could it be the prop shaft donut just in front of the Haldex? Presumably it would cause vibrations at a higher frequency than wheel speed. According to my dealer this can cause problems when it seizes, and mine was replaced under warranty.
  19. Yes I agree - they seemed fairly keen to just effectively say, "it's not our problem". To be honest, since the dealers can't really resolve this I'm not too bothered about them not choosing to act as a middleman on this issue. I'll post a further update once I hear back from Skoda UK.

My first Yeti didn't have the Rough Road Package but I can confirm that although the undertray doesn't look very strong mine got numerous severe batterings on forestry tracks and was fine and surprisingly strong. The second Yeti had the RRP and the plastic "sump guard" was very strong and got similar batterings.
  21. This is my Ctrl + Alt + Delete
  22. I top it up everyday and look around the engine bay and can't see anything obvious,(that should be with the amount of water) and my mates put it up on the ramp today and he couldn't see anything, but he's going to run it up tomorrow and see if that proves anything
  23. I can't remember for the life of me if I'd already shared these, it's been a while regardless. @pinkpanther talking about swans spurred the last one on, the rest I quite liked. Shot with my Canon EOS 1000F and Kodak ProImage 100 film a year or so ago!
  24. Likely they re used the lower chain cover (which is almost impossible not to bend) when taking it off.
  25. He makes a good point about the parts being interchangeable with the other VAG vehicles, I doubt that any of them aside from the very expensive and desirable are stolen to be resold, broken up for parts is where the demand is. Personally I would just steal the canbus connected headlights and sell them seeing how much they cost 😄 You have no doubt seen loads of photos of vehicles where the front bumper, headlights and crash beam with radiators/intercooler attached have been removed while the vehicle was parked, that can be done far quicker than stealing a vehicle by Canbus injection which would require the immobiliser (unlikely) and steering lock to be defeated plus they dont have to drive away in a partially dismantled car shouting "Nick me! - Nick me!"
  26. I’ve contacted them as well via email but also via Facebook. But, if one more person tells me to take the car in for a diagnostic I’m not going to be responsible for my response to them.
  27. Another cause of battery flattening (following a few days of non-use) is the alarm (built-in) battery failing. It tries to charge from the vehicle battery, and in doing so can flatten a good battery over a few days. I ended up removing the fuse feeding the alarm.
  28. Stop/start not working and poor charging from memory although on the T6 it can be a red herring as the LIN BUS wire from the battery monitor to alternator has an unused welded junction point which corrodes and snaps.
  29. You have chosen a very bad example. OBDII is a recognised unsecured data sharing protocole, probably the wrong wording, it is intended that any mechanic or DIY'er with an OBDII device can access and erase (within limitations) generic OBDII fault codes from any vehicle because they are standardised across all vehicles. I can do this with my sub £10 code reader, I cannot access the canbus modules without my £300 VCDS, I know clones are available, I cannot read fault codes from within those modules, reprogram them or perform output tests, with VCDS I cannot overcome my own vehicles immobiliser let alone somebody elses. I doubt that the signals are encypted, that would make the replacement of modules very difficult and expensive, I do think however there is far more security within the immobiliser system than the article or yourself claim. It can be overcome, I bought a remapped "plug & play ECU" for my Octavia where the immobiliser function was disabled, that vehicle could then be started without an immobiliser key because the ECU was from another vehicle and still believed it was, without the mod it could never have started my engine, the mod could not be done via the canbus, it needed the ECU reflashed or whatever they do.
  30. @vucko1011 I looked up how Group A brakes looked like - there was a 4-piston variant that used aluminium variant of Skoda Rapid/130 calipers. I even found some parts https://speedpro.eu/produkt/predni-kotouce-felicia-favorit-sk-a-255/ https://speedpro.eu/produkt/predni-adapter-kotouce-favorit-felicia/ https://speedpro.eu/produkt/predni-drzak-brzdice-sk-a-felicia-favorit-4-pist/ It looks something like this (note different brake disc). Ofcourse, the rest of the brake system is different, too, including brake bias regulator.
  31. To turn on the ignition without starting the engine don't put your foot on the brake when you press the starter. Good for playing with the settings. tom
  32. Skodas don't appear in the top 10 of cars that are stolen, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
  33. Got the new bearing for the compressor and new seals for AC lines
  34. Does anyone know the correct oil spec for our gearboxes?
  35. What about damage caused by lack of maintenance.......
  36. I've just gone out In the dark and tighted the bolts and sprayed the rubber grommets with some silicon lube spray. Started the engine and the noise has gone!!! I'll count my chickens after a test drive tomorrow but its looking good so far!!!! If this fixes the noise..........!! I will be so happy

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage depending on how many miles you will put on it, for example if you only do 5k/year the average mileage will come down so go for it, but if you do 20k/year it may be better leave this one. It does have a very good specification, think carefully before committing, go and take a look at it, it probably won't be for sale for very long with that specification.
  38. Another tip, make sure you have auto-hold on. That way when you stop, the brakes stay on and the clutches are disengaged. As soon as you touch the throttle to move away the clutches will engage and the brakes release instantly. Don't use the handbrake unless in neutral or park. With auto- hold on, the handbrake will come on automatically when you select park anyway.

It's just that the top mount is a separate part to the bearing. You can buy separately. Or, lemforder at least bundle together in a different part number. You may find oem genuine maybe up to10 to 20% cheaper but they will still be pricey...unless someone selling off surplus.
  41. Hard to see from the photos but the tread grrove depths do actually look even. You said you needed a larger family car, at 5.2m long your offspring are not Elephants are they? That would sure wear the tyres unevenly 😄
  42. I'd imagine it's similar if not identical to this
  43. Good question. Same engine and gearbox as you, looking for the same
  44. Lovely sunset this evening............
  45. Oddly enough I saw a similar model down here on The Wirral a couple of weeks back. I don't know enough about them to say which version it was but it looked like a more staid version of yours. Top Tip: avoid the A90; lots of passport cameras and nee-naws - although I can't see any of the nee-naws catching you if you put your mind to it
  46. Have you ever done brakes change on fronts with axle stands on? Does the extra 180° have to be done on the stands. 200Nm + 180° is just brutal.
