  1. A comparable analogy might be....... We all have televisions. They are manufactured by numerous companys, each providing a wide range of models and sizes. Like our cars, they are capable of receiving and decoding transmissions from providers such as SKY, BBC, Netflix, Free view etc. If a service provider decides to stop transmitting programs then the root cause of not receiving the program data lies entirely with the service provider. It does not lie with the manufacturer of the televisions. It would be unreasonable to expect or demand that Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, LG, Bush etc to modify/update/repair a non-faulty TV. Reinstating TMC transmissions either by Trafficmaster (or whoever may take over the contract) is the most obvious solution to the problem.
  2. Just to set the record straight re: some of the more recent posts to this thread - this doesn't appear to be a Skoda / VAG decision, rather the supplier of TMC data (Trafficmaster) have stopped broadcasting TMC data to all manufacturers that used to rely on it, so this includes VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi, Honda, Mazda, Chrysler, and Vauxhall and possibly others. Since Trafficmaster cannot be compelled to resume the service, we need to pressure our vehicle manufacturers to devise a solution to get this functionality working again. The obvious solution is for them to pay INRIX (as they used to pay Trafficmaster) for TMC data and then issue an update to all impacted vehicles. The problem we are encountering is that Skoda seem largely clueless about the issue, and provide absolutely shockingly bad customer service. I just received another useless reply from them today. There must be people at Skoda/VAG that actually understand the issue and are perhaps even working on a fix, but the message is not getting through to anyone customer facing. Some of the replies we're receiving are a complete joke, they really are shambolic.
  3. I have been looking at changing the tyre size on my Skoda Karoq 1.5 Edition TSI for many months now and have had a lot of helpful comments from the team. I have now had fitted 17in Alloy Wheels. These were Silver Alloy type RC from Wheelbasealloys.com. I also purchased as a fitted set Michelin Primacy 4 tyres 215/55/17. Booked my car in for a service and had these fitted by the garage. No problems and I have checked with Skoda on all dimensions and circumferences so they match my speedo readings. Only had a few short rides but the ride is more comfortable-smoother and the ride over a bumpy, rough road more pleasant. Also like the look of the wheels , not much different than before. Total cost to change £1,179 and now to sell my old set of wheels and tyres. They are in very good condition just did not like the ride and at the age of 75 I can choose. Many thanks.
  4. Thanks both. I think I'll buy the cheaper car but have the belt replaced myself as I can't stand the thought of it breaking. They refused to take off the cost of a new cam belt from the price of the car, but at least they were good enough to knock off £250 "as a gesture of goodwill"...
  5. Where Fuse 40 is, the white square below it, if you move the fuse into that position then it becomes ignition live.
  6. Meh. Shows what I Skoda know 🙂. If Dealer B is willing to put it in writing that the belt doesn't need to be done, go for it. If they put in writing that it will be covered by the warranty if it fails, then bonus, but I wouldn't count on them doing that as it will still be considered a 'consumable' even if it doesn't have a recommended interval for changing.
  7. Dealer B is correct in relation to the official workshop manual... the 1.4TSi engine has no mileage or time limit shown and is 'supposed' to be a 'lifetime' belt. Dealer A is quoting the 'recommendation' that Skoda UK apply in the UK but goes against the official workshop manual and advice for the rest of the world. The above info posted by Yogi appears incorrect anyway as the water pump is not driven by the timing belt but by an auxilliary belt on the other side of the engine. Now make of that what you will - it will be your vehicle and your choice. Many on here will tell you to replace it as a precaution against failure of it and the tensioner but Skoda don't seem to think it is necessary and neither do VW or Audi in other countries.
  8. As @GordoGT said it is the NO2 emissions that is the big problem for diesels. NO2 is three hundred times worse than CO2 for global warming effects. However, diesels fitted with AdBlue injection systems, targeting NO2 emissions, can actually have lower NO2 outputs than some direct injection petrol engines. Politicians don't want to hear that though
  9. Hi. Whilst the CO2 statement is true you really need to look to the N2O Figures to get the true pollution picture. Diesels really are the Devil's work when it comes to the amount of N2O which they emit into the atmosphere. HTH
  10. Well everyone would stop buying televisions if no one could watch anything on them, so I think you would find manufacturers doing something about it! And there is a difference here. Skoda (VAG) was paying Trafficmaster for this data to be accessed by their vehicles. Trafficmaster stopped broadcasting, and I agree Trafficmaster cannot be compelled to resume broadcasting (it's not even as simple as that, they appear to have rescinded their right to broadcast). However, there is an alternative provider (INRIX) with whom VAG could arrange to contract TMC services from. That is what we need to push manufacturers for. Simply to replace like for like, we're not asking for anything more.
  11. I understand all that, but a car should be expected to comfortably last for over a decade. We're talking about obsoleting a feature in cars just several years old. One of the feature benefits of my car was built in sat nav. No one from Skoda told me when I bought it that this feature would be crippled in 2023.
  12. For serviceable parts the manufacturer already has an obligation under national/EU laws. I think it’s something like 10 or 15 years after production ceases that parts must continue to be available. That’s a reasonable timeframe if you ask me. For many vehicles these parts are available for a significant period after that. For example my 2002 Audi TT (which ceased production 17 years ago in 2006) still has zero issues with parts availability for service purposes. That legislation is there to stop manufacturers prematurely obsoleting out their vehicles before the end of their natural life expectancy. There has been ample advanced warning of analogue TV and Radio, and end of life of Windows products, so those are hardly comparable. Unfortunately with connected devices manufacturers, can, and often do, terminate platform support as soon as a few years down the line with no legal recourse for the consumer. Similar legislation is required in this area to stop consumers getting ripped off. As is, brand new VAG (and other manufacturers vehicles) were sold as of a few months ago with a working service that has now been withdrawn with zero notice. The fact that may be due to a contracted VAG supplier terminating their service isn’t the consumers problem, it’s down to the manufacturer that sold them that product and service.
  13. For serviceable parts the manufacturer already has an obligation under national/EU laws. I think it’s something like 10 or 15 years after production ceases that parts must continue to be available. That’s a reasonable timeframe if you ask me. For many vehicles these parts are available for much after that. My 2002 Audi TT (which ceased production 17 years ago in 2006) still has zero issues with parts availability for regular services.
  14. Perhaps, but there's no evidence that this is a VW decision. Rather, Trafficmaster did not renew their licence to broadcast TMC data over FM, which has caused this knock on effect to many tens possibly hundreds of thousands of vehicles.
  15. Only had it a month and i'm super happy with it.
  16. I have a Superb iV and with the shocking rise in electricity prices since I bought it I'm strongly considering going back to diesel. Mine is supposed to do 50Km per charge, not a hope in hell. It's summer and I can just about squeeze 40Km out of it, in winter it barely does 25Km. Road noise is dreadful and the heater is non existent. Think I've had it with electric power tbh.
  17. Like I said when this thread was started, you really do have to forget those estimated miles that the car tells you, it's just not accurate. Just think about the journeys you make, I was getting 35+ on warmer days when driving routes that were almost all straight roads. Your driving could be stopping and starting, up and down hills, roundabouts and junctions everywhere, there's a million and one factors to take into account when comparing to others. I got rid of mine in July last year, it was the worst car I've ever owned in terms of the overall software. Since then I've had a Tesla model Y for a few months and if the predicted mileage on the Octavia is annoying you this much, you'd have had a nervous breakdown watching the numbers on the Tesla. Some mornings I'd go out to see 317 at 100% and some mornings i'd see 291, it really is just an estimate and it always ended up doing about 300 miles. All that matters is the actual mileage you get and from what you've said, it really doesn't sound like anything is wrong. I'm now back in an old skool Leon Cupra with an ICE only, I can't be bothered with the hassle of some of these new platforms at the moment.

5 hours on a 3-pin granny charger would add about 12kWh, worth 35-45 extra miles so helpful for peace of mind getting back in one hop.
  19. Yes that is 3.4v with the cable connected on ECU side but not coil pack side. The connectors look dry and clean, I've opened the ECU also and it is clean, closely inspected solder joints and they all look good with reasonable confidence. I've traced the traces a fair bit back towards the processor and they have continuity as far as I can trace them
  20. Another recommendation for Tayna
  21. +immobiliser readapting for all keys

It won’t change how clean the rear discs are? I personally don’t see the issue on the rear discs, look pretty normal
  23. Ya, mine are coated with CarPro CQuartz and topped with CarPro Gliss. The plastics, wheels etc were CarPro DLux and Gtechniq G1/G2 on the glass. I did it myself as I am fortunate to have a garage to prep, apply and had access to another car when I was waiting for them to cure. I prepped myself with a contamination wash, Merzerna polishes and pads. The supplying dealer (with their agreement) didn't touch the paint (so I wasn't trying to remove whatever they put on)
  24. Yes I can send you update to 0480 version
  25. I ran out of time as I need the car with armrest for a journey tomorrow, it's in, I've not had chance even to clean it yet - it looks weird, but it works.
  26. At first glance the wiring diagram for March 2010 onwards shows only the LHD version, which is what you'll be wanting to implement. Does the car have factory-fit towbar? If not, then for left side foglight you'll want to disconnect the grey/white wire at the right cluster connector and take it to pin 4 of the 6-way left side cluster connector. For right side reversing light you'll want to disconnect the black/blue wire from the left hand cluster connector and take it to pin 2 of the 6-way at the right cluster. Depinning those two out of their original connectors to fit into the new homes may be nicest, cutting and shutting an extension piece into the two wires en route to these crimped connector inserts as reqd.

I got the car back from the dealer today. Their advice is that the warning is more based on time than the actual battery level. They advise changing the battery in all keys once the message is seen (even if you do not ever use the spare keys). And then they advise operating the car with each key so the car resets its status for each of the keys it knows about.
  28. I dropped off my Octavia earlier at the local VAG/Skoda/SEAT independent. I enquired about the disabled TMC while there. They said many owners across the marques had been in stating their TMC was no longer active. The garage told me they had passed on owners' concerns to VAG but were still waiting to hear something definite. So nothing to add really. 😕
  29. Built in April 2010. This is my first Skoda so I'm not completely clued up on the models/facelifts quite yet. Built April 2010
  30. Black bumper cover suits it IMO 👍 Gaz
  31. It was definitely an error when the water pump was fitted. The fault light came on within a short drive of collecting the car. Had I lifted the bonnet I would have spotted the plugless connector as it was very obvious not hidden under the engine cover. I have to be slightly careful criticising the fitter as he was doing me a favour changing the pump without which we would be stuck with no car as no main dealer would assist. It is hard to find a garage that will jump in to help when you are not a local. He did a job which I know is a pain and he probabaly rushed the reconnection. The other technician spoke some English so we were lucky that many French can speak enough English to get by with us foreigners although they often do not admit this. We have had nothing but kind assistance from the local French during all of our stay here. The car seems to be behaving so I hope the timing is all OK. I am not taking it any further as it was a recommendation from our B&B hosts who lent us their car and towed my trailer to the house for us when my car was off the road. It would just cause embarrassment to people who had been so kind. A mistake which in the end did not cause harm I think so let it go.
  32. Thanks - all looking like battery issues by the sounds of it. Cheers
  33. All down to the paint prep and polish prior to the coating being applied to bring the paint to its best appearance then the coating seals all that goodness in, expect a really nice and deep gloss finish and then exceptional beading characteristics.
  34. someone asked smerkly on here are all Octavia of this gen an issue Mine is due back in for what its teenagisssh official recall This time not sure, new stupid big screen (even reviewers quote the VAG big screen as a mess if not dangerous) or software, today the new update cleared (so helpful) all my preferences - telephone, map etc Sad as a good drive , Clean Air Zone complaint (though thats not hard) and economical...but rubbish software and that stupid big screen... next purchase on horizon and its going to have real function controls (not hard as many brands realise their error) buck rogers car dashboard looks funky but rubbish in real world
  35. Today we went to Skoda dealer in Brive. We were turned away even though we explained the car would die in 250 miles and we had to get a ferry 600 miles away. They would not even connect a scanner for me to see any fault codes. They suggested that sometimes the warning is false and so just keep driving!! We then arranged to go back to the guy who fitted the water pump although his software was only up to 2013. He got 2 fault codes - Injector fault on No1 cylinder and Engine thermostat fault. These were news to me as the car was running fine. He could do no more with his system but got us into a local garage with upto date scanner. This guy came out and immediately got to work as a favour. He was having a problem identifying what was wrong. The eventual decision was a Adblu tank sensor failure. This would cost #600 to replace + labour and could not be done before we left. He did not give up but went and checked under the bonnet and pointed out the Asdblu injector. We both instantly spotted the unconnected connector in front of the water reservoir - he said this was the injector sensor cable. So no wonder the Asdblu top up was not recognised it was not connected. Furthermore the actual connecter seemed to be connected to the wrong plug on the engine so the wires were all crossed. That would give false Injector fault and false thermostat fault? Once the wiring was corrected he reset the system and the faults cleared. I went for a test run and it came up with 8500 miles Adblu capacity. What a stressful day going from planning a transporter for the car back to UK to having it fixed and functional. So there you go - a simple error on refitting the wiring led us on a merry chase around the dealers watching our car bricking point loom closer. Phew!!
  36. I will send you 0253 version
  37. @MJZ @Kasi71 @Slider82 I shall send you all update to 0480 version
  38. The problem is the basic functioning of electric power steering compared to hydraulic power steering, the latter if correctly designed feels exactly like and has the same responses to control inputs as a non assisted manual rack but simply less effort. The former is a crock of sho1te by comparison and I absolutely hated the steering on my MK2 Octavia compared to the MK1, the Yeti is no better I have just become used to it and having to make continuous fingertip control inputs to maintain as close to a straight trajectory as I am able.
  39. Hi, In terms of paint protection from the nature elements and easiness of cleaning the car, I would totally recommend it. But if you think to protect the car with ceramic coating against stones, the only protection against stones is PPF (paint protection film). I wrapped the front end of mine in PPF and add a ceramic coating on the rest. And the paint is doing pretty good after 2 and a half years, 51k km and 3 winters. Roads in winter here in Slovenia are like gravel roads. They use soo much sand. It's crazy.
  40. Car has been returned 😁 Root caused was tracked back to the crankshaft pulley (which I've also seen referred to as the harmonic balancer) being in the wrong position which was causing juddering and vibration. Exact same issue that Twiz had with their car in this post: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/506382-12-tsi-running-rough-after-cambelt-change I've driven it a bit and sat it in neutral and ran through the revs and I can't pick up on any juddering or roughness now so I am satisfied that it is fixed @MB21 in relation to the really slight vibration that you can detect at 1200rpm still - I can detect something at that rev point too but like you it's exceptionally subtle and I don't think I would have noticed it were it not for the fact that after having this issue I'm hyper sensitive to anything relating to vibration or changes in engine noise. It's something that I am happy to put down to "that's just what the engine sounds like" and leave it at that though Fingers crossed for smooth driving for some time now!
  41. Probably dead antenna. OE sharkfin is around €90 and easy to fit.
  42. Have ordered a hyper green VRs after seeing the colour on an Enyaq , it’s not something you would lose in a car park . Order placed early April was told a twenty week delivery have been told today it’s been built and on its way to shipping .
  43. Had a play with my phone's Macro mode
  44. I would advise steering clear of shifting the dsg stick while moving. Just not a good idea as you might accidentally money shift into reverse or P. Pulling back for S there is almost zero chance of messing that up. Pushing forward? Hit a bump and break something.
  45. Thanks Carlston, now that's really useful and gives me a better understanding also some guide to alternative tyres. I have found that the wheels are expensive and now searching for the right match.
  46. Yes I have checked again and the tyres are the originals but the size is 235/40/R19/96W Pirelli Cinturato P7 Thats for making me check again.
  47. I tested the 3 bolts shown above and they are all a good earth if that helps anyone.
  48. Here is the PDF @SuperDuperSuperb....... removing rear bumper.pdf
