  1. Most of the Arundel Gate pollution was caused by me driving around in circles for ages, trying to find my way through the roadworks, one way systems etc in order to find the Q Park on Charles street. Ruddy nightmare if you follow your nose or a satnav.
  2. And a totally unnecessary jibe at me as usual... For your info drainage is different to sewage treatment. Ive done drainage, not sewage treatment and discharge.
  3. I was trying to go faster than the trigger speed of the cameras It is a nightmare if you come from the Northern side of the city and try to work your way around to Charles Street. I remembered the trick after a bit. You go down to the roundabout where the big Decathlon store is and work your way back up into town
  4. I already did that in the previous post (valve overlap). The inlet camshaft has a hydraulically operated adjuster. By changing this adjuster, the inlet valve opens earlier, during the last part of the exhaust phase. In this way part of the exhaust gasses are blown into the inlet, and reused.
  5. TBF the Toyota/PSA unit in these are one of their strongest attributes. If only VAG would have got their three cylinders as "right" in the smaller cars they'd be unbeatable value nowadays. I worked for Toyota for many years and have driven countless Aygo/C1/107 cars, and they all are just so chuckable, much more akin to an early classic mini than people give them credit for.
  6. I resent your demeaning tone. JR You've obviously spent too long in the roadside hotel arguing with those miscreants that live there.
  7. I think Skoda UK and the dealers were in an untenable position, there was so much information around that the belt didn't need changing at 5yrs that they were forced to come into line. The fact that the procedure for the 1.5 ACT was so complicated and needed specialist equipment and trained techs probably helped make up their minds! In reality the procedure for the 1.5 ACT was really only designed to be used when the camshaft had been removed e.g head off , probably because the belt was never designed to be routinely replaced!!
  8. You need a cheap voltage/alternator reader and check how it’s behaving at idle
  9. I was thinking of that at the time I was terrorising inner Sheffield. Wasn't it around 170-odd miles an hour? Or a tad higher even?
  10. Can be the tyre set up , it’s common on fabia’s , also they are a bugger for the tracking slipping out and needing adjusting
  11. I have a memory of them attempting that on TG years ago (before Matt le Blanc 🙄) The speed was rather high IIRC
  12. I did. Dealer did mine for the option price.
  13. Lovely evening............. Q
  14. In order .. All Cantab degrees used to be classed as BA or MA. No Yes but expensive And finally thats all a bit off topic.
  15. Turns out it was one of the two little wires from alternator. I cut both of them close to the firewall and ran fresh wires back to the alternator, battery light off and seems to be giving correct readings. Thanks for the help!
  16. For the fitting kit, I think.
  17. You have my sympathy!!! I'm a born and bred Sheffielder and work in the city centre but still struggle to get to some locations given the mess the LA have made of the roads... Hope you didn't get fined (I assume the M-car is compliant?).
  18. Save your Lee type sarcasm for the roadside hotel
  19. I've seen two different OEM part numbers for the foam and jack kit for the Octavia MK3 VRS, and these are 5E0093860C and 5E0093860F. Perhaps take these two OEM part numbers along to a VAG parts department, and ask them what the difference is. They might not know. Although they might both be suitable. The 5E0093860F might simply be an updated version of 5E0093860C, but you would need to check. You won't be able to use a front spare wheel smaller than 17" diameter because 16" rims won't clear the front brake calipers on the big 340x30mm front brake discs. When you get the foam and jack kit, try one of your normal wheels in the spare wheel well to see if it fits with the carpet flush. If it doesn't, you need a spare wheel that isn't so wide. If you do need a narrower tyre than 225, you could use a 205/50R17 fitted to a 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Kodiaq. This rim specification is available from mytyres Foam and jack kit (includes everything except the spare wheel) 5E0093860C 5E0093860F https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sady-pro-vymenu-kol/c/setsToChangeWheels?q=%3AscoreDesc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282017%2B%29&text=# Alcar 9021 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from Kodiaq) (205/50R17) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=672860434273997936&rimCode=ALCAR9021 Another spare wheel option is a 7.5Jx18 ET50 5/112 57.1 steel rim from a VW iD.3. 20. Incorrect assumption, it is belt driven from the crankshaft pulley together with the alternator, dynamos have not been fitted to vehicles for 50 years.
  21. Done it many times, its very easy, you don't need to spin the wheel fast, just turn it. It is very obvious when you do a comparison between wheels. It is how mechanics and Mot testers check wheel bearings.
  22. This is working temperatures, nothing to worry about it
  23. Ouch surely your not suggesting that it is a design fault, rather than being done to save to money treating it correctly or whatever. I mean that if you think about it, it wasn't a thing until we pulled out of the EU, so it suggests that the two are linked in some way.

  25. I think it's nothing to worry about... 2.0 TDI non-VRS here:
  26. Yup, my how to guide covers that bit too.
  27. Fly back into Oslo or any other airport and go collect your car from the long stay or short stay car park and there is no chance to pre condition your car. That is what many offshore workers or just workers or people on holiday do so real world. It is why many Oil workers are not driving EV,s in the UK but they might well be in Norway. As for going to Ski centres, winter sports, or anyplace really with car and people and you get there and there is no charging near and you park up and do your activity and at the end of the day you leave and head to where ever which might be no place near then charging can be a necessity. That can be totally hopeless in Scotland as anyone that has done it will know because the infrastructure is not there for that. Aviemore is about as good as it gets for chargers but even there it takes a lot of luck if you just want to get charged and on with your journey. PS Last week at Edinburgh Airport i was able to get charging at my 3rd attempt as the chargers were playing up. I went to the loo and when i came back a gent with a Polestar was attempting to get 1 of the 6 chargers working, only 3 of them were. He had a flight to catch and had to return the hire car with 75% charge. I let him on the charger i was on as i had enough charge to get home and it is 55 pence a kWh. I never asked him how much he would be surcharged if the car went back without 75 % charge. Surely not the crazy sort of price you are charged per litre if you return an ICE without a full tank and they fill it up.
  28. From what little I've read about cars actually fitted with the 2.0 Budack cycle engine, I get the the impression it neither lives up to the early hype about performance or economy. It probably fairs better in the NOx emissions where miller cycle (which Budack is a slight variation of) is known to be better than Otto. I think VAG has stopped claiming anything on the basis they'll get hammered if they get found out and the class actions start again.
  29. The Skoda accessory catalogue list many alloy rims for the Kodiaq with the correct specification, eg. diameter, width, offset. They are often identical to the factory rims except for the OEM part number. They are not a modification because they conform to the car's Certificate of Conformity, ie. they are all Skoda approved. 30. I don't think we are. You're saying they pass a MOT, I'm agreeing but warning you that doesn't make them road legal. You then say your MOT bloke says they are fine, I reiterate the same information and you tell me for a third time it's fine for a MOT In terms of an MOT, we both agree that swapping the side lights, indicators and brake lamps from halogen/filament to LED will NOT cause a MOT failure. However, having a MOT does not mean your vehicle is road legal or meets all required legislation. You mention "sides/indicators and brake lights" "which do not provide a fixed and regulated beam of light" which is simply not true! ECE 148 has diagrams showing exactly how the light should be distributed for all of these functions, not just headlights, for ALL lamps. Just because it's not checked during an MOT, doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Just for example, a indicator would need to achieve the following light pattern: By changing the light source, you're invalidating the testing of that luminaire which means it's no longer compliant with the regulations and the type approval is voided, therefore it's not road legal. If you were to have an accident and someone claimed not to see you indicate or brake, using none approved light sources could add support to their claim even if it's not true. In short, drop-in LED conversions are technically not road legal, regardless of light function or MOT checks, folk should be aware of that when making these changes
  31. The parking sensors might be a red herring, but a dodgy ABS sensor will throw up the other errors for sure. Best get that diagnostic!
  32. I believe the brake lights do come on when ACC applies brakes to reduce speed. At least they do on my Superb.
  33. Superb Mk IV After my wife had driven the car recently none of the drivers seat functions worked but the passenger seat electrics still worked fine. I reasoned therefore that it could not be the fuse. As the drivers seat has a memory function I deduced that there must be a microchip in the circuit and that maybe this had got 'scrambled'. As there is power available to the seats, even when the ignition is off, I pulled the fuse, waited 10 minutes and replaced it thinking that this might 'reboot' the chip. EUREkA!
  34. Ironically I’ve had Michelin CrossClimates, which are all seasons, on my past three cars and recently fitted them to my Karoq and have never experienced sidewall cracking (ooh er missus 😏)
  35. Just as a quick aside to these discussions, the worst areas in Sheffield for pollution are Arundel Gate and Sheaf Street - the former as it is a main bus thoroughfare (cars only allowed in one direction due to bus gates) and the latter due to proximity to the rail station and train lines. I believe the same applies to Oxford Street in London that is bus only. The M1 speed reduction for air quality mentioned in earlier posts was a trial to see whether it had an impact - the results are still awaited but data I have seen suggests the impact has been minimal. As for the Sheffield CAZ it is quite clear from its geography and the business case that it was taken forward in preference to other options because of the money it would bring in through charges for the Local Authority - the business case shows huge dis-benefits associated with the scheme in multiple assessment criteria.
  36. Re brakes, find a nice clear piece of road where you can get up to, say, 60mph and plant your foot on the brake peddle as if Bambi had run out in front of you. Two or three of those should easily clear a fair bit of the rust off the disks. I’ve got a bit of wobble on mine when braking which is prob warped discs but will wait until they need changed in thickness, which at my present 5k miles/yr might be a while.
  37. I've had AC in all my cars/vehicles since 1999 and it's been on all the time in all of them - I value the dehumidifying in winter and the comfort in summer.
  38. What does 15% performance increase mean? Clamping strength? Surface area? Coefficient of friction? Torque transfer ability? There are a lot of things this could cover and in all fairness, a ‘stage 1’ probably won’t require a performance clutch but it depends on what kind of power increases you would get and also depend on how heavy footed you are or want to be from a standstill, once you’re moving a performance clutch is hardly going to make any difference
  39. Does this mean the car won't start manually - not via stop start? Normally when stop start is incorrectly coded it doesn't operate - ie shut engine off- which doesn't seem to be the case here. I'd suggest one of the battery leads has been disturbed or incorrectly fitted on battery installation so is not making a circuit suitable for the high current starter motor.
  40. Thanks for the reply. I was on the edge of installing it, but when I couldn't find a proper size USB flashdrive, I realised there may be a risk, small as may be, so I decided to call the dealership to have it done. It's a company car after all...

Yes - you can download the latest ones from Skoda. https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ Assuming you have a MIB2 Amundsen, you probably want these: - https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/Download/RadioLogos/IRL_20200331.zip - https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/Download/RadioLogos/GBR_20200331.zip If you want to customise them, you can manually assign them as per the owners manual:

I gave my dashcam footage and screenshot of the SORN information to my insurers, the latter the next day and they we're most grateful and I think that the Ferrari will only be covered for 3P,F&T, so he could find himself with a BIG bill for his car, my car, plus my expenses for legal costs and hire car charges.
