  1. There are many like Davy / MacMaster that do not bother to learn anything about the cars or chargers. He was driving past Rapid & Ultra Rapid charger hubs and then expecting to get miles / range with a Taycan on a 7 kW charger. He is just part of the cashing in on EV,s with positive or negatives and he does it by pretending to be a Rodney. I might offer to take him on a proper chip shop tour. I will drive and he can pay. Lets help him pay his Lease that he has to BUY a car to vlog about.
  2. The tens of thousands he was referring to is for Paris. In the closing paragraph he said there's 2000 or so in London. Not easy to follow I agree but he's not incorrect 👍
  3. If I ever have trouble sleeping, I think I will try reading this thread, particularly some of @lol-lol recent posts. They are so long and full of random facts that I'm sure I'd nod off within a couple of minutes. 🥱
  4. Fitted and working 💥😁 Thanks everyone 👍
  5. We had a few in London, dozens I recall, but we had over 5,000 in Paris and we still have some in Singapore but these car projects were not economically viable at the time so we pulled out and disposed of the cars, selling them off mostly. We still are involved in 6m and 12m buses in several locations around the world and still make solid state lithium metal polyamide batteries and have licences which are used by Mercedes bus division. We concentrate on Media more now and have even sold my division of logistics to another massive French logistics and shipping line. The large scale Paris car sharing scheme Autolib could take up to 100,000 cars off the road in a day, some cars could be hired, in 6 minute slices, up to 40 times a day. Paris authority paid us a subsistence of a few tens of millions of euros, as I presume London did to a much lesser extent but eventually did not want to continuing playing ball. It was an interesting experiment that had much merit but it was not the right time or perhaps right paradigm or did not get enough support and of the right kind. One day we there might be much less personal ownership and much more cars, probably TESLAs, which will arrive at ones house, driverless, and then take you where you want to go and then return to the pool of cars. Probably only need a tenth of the cars we currently have, virtually no individual ownership. Times a changing.
  6. He has range to get on a 50 kW charger for maybe 30 minutes if he bothered to the next day. Or plug in that 3 pin charger for 10 hours and 'mony a mickle maks a muckle' or just all you need. There are 100+ kw chargers before he gets where he is going. PS Things have moved on in the Electric Highway that is the M1 since The MacMaster was touching cloth or that busy making videos that he could not grasp the concept.
  7. Thanks... I'd missed that when I read it for the third time ( I find his posts difficult to read due to the rambling, and the many grammar and spelling mistakes / wrong words which I guess is spell check doing its usual best to bugger stuff up)
  8. Considering the above photo was dated 2017, there has not any further movement to provide charging posts and considering the size of the entire housing complex, those 5 posts are no where enough as what the photo does not show nor does the text explain it, but Haldane Place is just 1 side of a massive 4 story housing estate. As far as I can see there is not even a parking space allocated to each dwelling so it would seem that some tenants would not be able to have a car even if they wanted one. And this scenario is played out across the whole of the UK in large urban areas with social housing as opposed to private estates, which do usually have driveways as claimed. But there are many more older private and social estates where that is not remotely possible. The only way that can happen is to demolish every thing and build afresh, highly unlikely.
  9. If the number of EV chargers being switched on in the UK was to increase by 50% each year then that would be getting on with things. & a better distribution around the UK with less of a priority being given to London. http://zap-map.com/ev-stats/how-many-charging-points I would question Zap-maps publishing of statistics considering how many weeks or months it can take for them to actually show new chargers / hubs or update the sites location or tariff when being told updates are required by users that bother to let them know.
  10. No problem. You get nice surprises sometimes with things being less than expected. Not often mind!
  11. So once again you use your own well off leafy suburb position as reflective of the rest of the UK... It isn't! The split between those with off road parking and those without nationally is 60:40 but in many places is the other way round or worse. As for things like lamppost charging that is only possible where street lights are on a three phase supply. Many now are on a low voltage 24 supply for low wattage led lighting heads and that supply won't do EV charging.
  12. If worried about Porsche servicing charges do not get a Porsche EV or ICE and service at Porsche Dealerships. Or maybe a Skoda Enyaq or any VW Group EV,s or if you do check the price. Then check with Nissan for a Leaf, or Renault for a Zoe, or BMW / MINI for a BMW or MINI ev. No point looking at the most expensive or the cheapest cars and them making statements as though that applies to all EV Servicing & the expense. ............... Taking the pith. 4 years servicing. £10 a month. The first service and brake fluid change is @ 24 months / 25,000 miles. (Mine might be in in about 13 months, and then Motability are paying.) Actually inspect the body and wheels before service. Clean car. If getting washed do it then, not after a service... IMO. a road test is nice, plug into the diagnostics before starting the service ICE or MINI just simply clever. Usual proper servicing and maintenance. You want the Pollen / Cabin filter inspected, location location location. But do that annually maybe. ............... Others might follow the example. & do as standard. Ask the customer about tyre rotation. Wheels always off is nice to see if they do come off easily. Really Nice, Tyres rotated, or front to back. If doing tyre pressure changes tell the customer / driver..
  13. 2Nm extra is irrelevant, most cheap torque wrenches aren't even that accurate so forget about it. Also the gap is fine, well within tolerance of +/- 0.1mm. Try and ignore all the pomposity and self-importance on here to cut through to what's actually important; which is regular plug checks and changing at the first signs of wear.
  14. Motability have been great. BP Pulse just hopeless. I was / am to get 3 year BP Pulse subscription. Confirmed before i got the car. BP Pulse would be in touch. Well they were not so i was with Motability who were to prompt BP Pulse and said also contact them. Repeat that 3 times, and me 3 times emailing BP Pulse saying please help. and one reply saying 'Esculated' you will get an Authorisation code, this is how to activate it,. No issue you have an Account, that can be upgraded, Radio silence, no activating code. ............ Today this from Motability. Different thing, lets see how this goes. Last ZapMap pilot i was asked to participate in i could not participate because i had an Account, could not use same e-mail or password, already a member etc etc.
  15. You forget the multitude of other advantages of EVs. Most of us with EVs charge at home at something like 7.5p per kWh and not 75p per kWh, imagine being able to buy fuel at 20p a litre (oh I can as I have a company fuel card). But in addition to most EV driver Fuelling up, at home, friends, holiday, at a tenth of the price, (and VAT at 5%), We have cheaper servicing, about half the price of ICE vehicles, Significant percentage of EV drivers can charge up at work at zero or low cost (how many ICR drivers can do that ?) Price of EVs, driven mainly by TESLA and Chinese company like SAIC ie MG, Maxus as well as Volvo, Polestar and lowering buy, lease prices several times through the year Two years more of free road tax and will the 2025 UK government, who are likely to be more EV friendly, like maintain some lower VED for EVs. I am sure I could think of another five, not all relate to cost, such as EVs being even easier than ICE cars to drive with one pedal driving, so one fells fresher after driving. The list is long and so....
  16. On "skoda eshop cz" the Velorum with OEM part number 5E0071496L 8Z8 is listed at 4,399CZK (about £156.61). https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/alu-kola/c/alloyWheels?q=%3ApriceAsc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282012-2017%29%3ArimDiameter%3A16%22&text=# If that doesn't sound particularly expensive, it's because Skoda alloy rims with the OEM part number format xxx071xxx are from the Skoda accessory catalogue. By contrast, Skoda alloy rims with the xxx061xxx format are from the Skoda parts catalogue, so tend to cost a lot more...often more than twice the price...for what is often essentially the same rim. I expect this is simply Skoda's attempt to compete on price with aftermarket alloy rims. In the Skoda parts catalogue, the Velorum is listed with the OEM part number 5E0601025C 8Z8, ie. using the xxx601xxx format. 5E0071496L 8Z8 and 5E0601025C 8Z8 appear to be the same rim. 8Z8 is the associated 3-digit colour code. 8Z8 means silver. If you do purchase Skoda alloy rims from their accessory catalogue, it's best to choice a style and colour that was commonly supplied on factory cars. That way, should you need a single replacement if a rim gets damaged (and Skoda have stopped selling that particular model in their accessory catalogue), there should be plenty of secondhand ones available on places like ebay. As you can imagine, most secondhand Skoda rims use the xxx601xxx format and not the xxx701xxx format, because most secondhand Skoda rims for sale came from factory supplied Skoda cars and not the Skoda accessory catalogue. 2 5E0601025C Aluminium rim 6.5Jx16 ET46 4 PR-C3N VELORUM 5E0601025C 8Z8 Diamond silver https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/OCT/753/6/601/601060
  17. For anyone reading this who buys one a manual from easy-manuals: I got a discount code when I purchased it. Not sure if it expires but its 10% - if useful to anyone! JO4DTJ
  18. Had 3 OTA updates since 1941 manual installation. No problem at all.. But guys.. your problem can be also related to the other not updated units in car which are not related to the infortaiment system.. My dealer updated all other units about 8 months ago when I had problem that car drain accu. because infortaiment started at night by itself and because lights was powered on by itself.. At that time I get new accu and they updated all SW and they show me that one unit was causing problem and that it was SW related bug.. After that time the only problem was restarting infortaiment some times, which completly stopped with 1941 update. Regarding poor mobile signal.. using Samsung routine and when phone connects to car bluetooth phone make hotspot for car which then auto connect to it and have internet.. so updates can be downloaded only when I'm in car and driving.. PS. This way you do not need to pay for mobile data for car..
  19. @Graham ButcherThe Gridserve was not there for him, but he is haming it up. I am watching and am as stupid as others are and many will be just to pick up on the pretend stupidity of it all. He has a big following & it will be many sadists among them / us. Dont turn off the AC if needed, but if you think you have to 'eek out range' at least see if it makes a difference, but then if you want the radio dont put that off. If time is short, forget filming in the car saying how long it takes, get charging and then talk. But the videos pays for the charging.
  20. Put proper bulbs back, or fit ballasts to the LEDs, thus undoing any "advantage" they offered.
  21. 😄😄😄😄😄 Its also partially hydrogenated and will give the driver Cholesterol 👍
  22. Very few chargers near me, mostly 7Kw, some 22Kw and a couple of 50Kw.
  23. Like many utter twits yes. Like some that really need to but Guide Dogs for the stupid. But he makes a living out of it. Not as stupid as he acts then. He likes WAZE. Well fandabydozy do not use 'a better route planner' or anything like the Porsche system on the car, ignore Ultra Rapid chargers or Porsche Dealerships for charging when near any. http://abetterrouteplanner.com
  24. @tootI have no idea how many of those 5 are still working but it does make a good illustration as you confirmed that ZapMap and PlugShare are nowhere up-to-date with their information, so when that guy with Porsche is a click bait kn** as stated by @lol-lolmade a video about how he got caught out when using ZapMap, 5 months ago claiming he almost froze to death (which is clickbait I admit, but thats just what the MSM does all the time and people get their info from the biased MSM), it seems that he was actually telling the truth about the infrastructure is not fit for purpose. Its hardly a good advocate to help encourage people switch to EV. The key players in this push towards having no new ICE cars for sale in 2030 and net-zero by 2050 have really got to grab hold of their socks and pull them up double quick. It does bugger all to help either when the PM has just ordered a new Audi A8 (ICE) as his official car, he should be leading from the front as should the entire government and be using EV cars.
  25. ? How many of the 5 @ Haldane Place are still in service? Nobody bothered posting comments on them on ZapMap for a year or on PlugShare for 4 years.
  26. Tagged the owner of this one on your Facebook post, by the way. I've got refusal on this when it comes up for sale.
  27. The standard Kamiq tyre sizes have an outside diameter between 11.9% and 13.1% larger than the far too small 125/70R16, as shown in the chart below. Up to 1.5% difference is generally regarded as small and insignificant. Up to 5% difference is a big difference, but may be acceptable as a temporary get you home measure. More than 5% difference is too big. Outside diameter of tyre 125/70R16 581.4mm 205/60R16 652.4mm (+12.2%) 205/55R17 657.3mm (+13.1%) 215/45R18 650.7mm (+11.9%) However, you could change the 125/70R16 to a 135/90R16 as shown in the chart below. Outside diameter of tyre 135/90R16 649.4mm 205/60R16 652.4mm (+0.5%) 205/55R17 657.3mm (+1.2%) 215/45R18 650.7mm (+0.2%) Continental 135/90R16 102M space saver tyre https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Continental/sContact/T135-90-R16-102M/D-123394 Have you checked whether there's room to fit a full size spare in the spare wheel well, such as 205/60R16 fitted to a 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rim? Alcar 6664 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rim https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1164478471326422116&rimCode=ALCAR6664 I suggest you order the below foam and jack kit from a VAG parts department using the OEM part number 658093860A. However, check with them to make sure that this is correct for your car. At about £40, it is surprisingly good value and includes everything except for the actual spare wheel. Once you have the kit, you can see how one of your current full size wheel fit...and take it from there. Foam and jack kit for Kamiq 658093860A (everything except for the actual spare wheel) (1,029CZK is about £36.63) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola/p/658093860A To give you an idea of how much room the standard wheel sizes will take up, I have compiled the following chart. Note that the actual inflated width of a tyre always depends on the rim width to which it is fitted. As you can see in the chart below, the actual inflated widths of the standard tyre sizes on the Kamiq are all within 5mm of each other. Actual inflated width of tyre 205/60R16 fitted to 6J rim 209mm 205/55R17 fitted to 6.5J rim 214mm 215/45R18 fitted to 7J rim 213mm
  28. Not my car but I've found an absolute Unicorn. Hens teeth. Rocking horse kakka. A Fantasy Green MkI Fabia ESTATE!
  29. @lol-lol Generally agreed with a lot of what you said, however the locations you specifically mentioned are by and large relatively modern estates and also likely to be largely private housing and not social housing, looking at Google Earth for your village that certainly looks to be true, and also you mentioned Bradley Stoke which I know to be the same. I used to work on the Aztec West Industrial Estate but there are loads of places in the older parts of the older established towns and cities that have streets similar to the one shown below (2023 image) and these are also privately owned there are no driveways and there are loads of social estates with houses just like these or high-rise tower blocks and there is no charging points available. Working from home is still a big thing around here as some bosses have come to realise through the pandemic that the work still got done and therefore maybe they didn't really need to have such a large office after all. In this part of the country, many office blocks are now being converted into luxury flats, some of which have now been requisitioned by the Home Office to house asylum seekers. Good luck if you think the Government will stop at a £100 as the acceptable level for EV VED. Extra EDIT: My current car has a VED of just £35 but I fully expect that will sky rocket in time too. If I had to choose between a Hybrid and a EV, I'd take the EV as it is likely to be the cheapest to run overall and also more than likely the most reliable as a daily runner. With a Hybrid, when it comes to servicing you have effectively 2 cars to service, an ICE and an EV, ouch. EDIT. In the street below, there are just 8 lampposts and the street itself is 260 metres in length and this view point was from the middle looking south. Lamppost charging is not the answer here either. The infrastructure is a long way off being suitable for an EV future.
  30. Just to update everybody as to what has been going on. Tried out the diesel versions, 150 and 190 bhp and have bought a L+K 150 DSG version. Not at all disappointed with its pulling power and the 150 seemed quieter. Thank you everybody for your help.
  31. @ApertureS I think that is exactly what that is, thank you! @J.R. It has only had the one owner and the car is in pretty decent condition for the age and mileage IMO. I was never expecting an immaculate car and there's nothing wrong that a little bit of work and few requisitioned parts won't sort out. But honestly that's nitpicking. All the correct bits work as they should.😁
  32. Took some pictures this morning for contrast first pic rear windows second pic windscreen third pic front windows just noticed as well all windows other than the windscreen have the skoda logo on hope this helps
  33. Replacing the old hard plastic stuff which was barely attached with £5 worth of 10mm vaccuum hose seems to be an improvement. Time will tell if it sorts the intermittent problem.
  34. The battery being 50% of the car value might be close to being true for the early lithium batteries and for those cars with the biggest optional battery sizes but that is no longer true as many companies, particularly technical advanced ones like TESLA have moved on to Lithium Iron Phosphate packs which are much cheaper and both packs have been falling in price a part from a spike of a few months a year or two ago. A case which is being followed in the States is where TESLA fitted a larger batter pack but the order they had was for a smaller battery pack ie 60 kws and not one of the 90 kwh pack sizes. The current owner, and many agree with his argument is he thought he had a 60 kWh car with the consequential weight and energy efficiency of a lighter car when it turns out he has been hauling around 30 kwh, presumably about quarter of a tonne, more battery pack so is unhappy being asked for a few thousand dollars to software unlock the hidden part of the pack. Hopefully be able to work it out and then the world would have another fine 90 kwh Model S which is great car and much better than the 60 kwh version...... https://www.carscoops.com/2023/07/4500-bill-to-unlock-extra-battery-capacity-has-people-taking-sides-between-tesla-and-customer/ $4,500 Bill To Unlock Extra Battery Capacity Has People Taking Sides Between Tesla And Customer The customer bought a used Model S P60 and then found out that he had additional battery capacity that he was locked out of using. t’s been a long time since Tesla sold the 60 kWH version of its Model S but that isn’t stopping it from ruffling feathers today. The owner of a used, but new-to-him Model S found out after the purchase that he’s carrying around the extra weight associated with his 90 kWh battery pack. And he’s not too keen on the fact that he can’t use that extra power without forking out $4,500. Tesla got into the practice of selling a car with a software-limited battery pack more than half a decade ago. It would sell a 60 kWh battery pack in a car but limit it to just 40 kWh unless the buyer paid extra. In the case we’re discussing today, the Model S in question was originally equipped with a 60 kWh battery but now has a newer 90 kWh pack. When he found out that it had extra capacity and that Tesla was only willing to unlock it for $4,500, he took to Reddit to complain. “I paid for 60kwh so I want a 60kwh battery so I don’t waste energy carrying the extra weight a bigger battery brings… If I’m carrying around a battery that weighs more I want to get something out of that extra weight,” they say. Tesla certainly has the right, though perhaps not the moral high ground, to do whatever it would like. The buyer is also certainly at liberty to feel however they’d like to about the situation
  35. Hi, it is to stop you putting the negative on the negative battery post, (look at the messaging closely, shows NOT to place the jump lead at the battery post) bypassing the battery manager. By using the provided body earth, the current being introduced goes through the battery manager (we call it word 61) later cars has it as a slave to the gateway (word 19). Lots of very useful battery info in the measured value blocks if you know what to look for. Changed a few of these units where they fail if it gets spiked. communicates via LIN Bus.
  36. If u have Comfort in Driving Modes, than u have DCC suspension. Otherwise u will only have Eco / Normal / Sport / Individual With DCC Without DCC
  37. Seriously? With rising poverty in the country, real world wage erosion, record numbers reliant on food banks, people working full time reliant on food banks and benefits you question how people do not have savings?? Many people who did have savings have spent their 'minimum safety net' a long time ago. Those of us able to save and pay our way are in a position many, many hard working people are not. Definitely out of touch.
  38. The lights in the headlights will have been flashing blue lights, probably LED's. Yeah, like he would admit it! How many previous owners, if only the one then its stretching credibility that he didn't know but it's easy to ignore things if ignorance is profitable. Does the indicated mileage seem commensurate with the vehicle condition? I think you should so some checks starting with the MOT history. Cop cars have a hard life especially the high powered variants used as pursuit vehicles, I bet its had a lot more than the one bash in its time. Check under the rear seat for any drugs or weapons stashed!! 😄
  39. Another photo of a remote siren flute with pipe and driver.
  40. You might find that the design of these deflector rings has changed slightly, I found that when I replaced the front bearings on my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI last year, in my case the car already had the newer profile of deflector ring and I had a pair of older version of deflector rings left over from a road spring replacement job I had done on a 2002 VW Polo 18 years, roughly, earlier. In the event, I did try to replace the deflector rings on this 2015 Polo last year and failed miserably on the left hand side and just end up breaking off too many of the gripper "teeth" - so I refitted the original one, one the right hand side, I did manage to fit the new deflector ring. Note, I did clean off as much rust/curd as I could before trying to fit these deflector rings. These just seem to be to deflect general road curd away from the bearing area, there is a lip aon the end of the drive shaft that they locate over. I'm just relating that tale in case you are concerned about the new deflector plates looking different. The survival of the ABS sensor will be in doubt judging by my experience, the left hand side one survived okay, the right hand side one, because there was a greater build up of rust/curd, which I needed to clean up in order to get the rear forcing plates to sit into the back of the hub properly. Obviously closer in, where the stub end of the ABS sensor pokes out to almost touch the magnetic ring on the rear of the bearing, must have had enough rust/curd remaining to cause that ABS stub to get "collected" by the rust/curd when the bearing was being pulled out by the tool. Before I started using this tool, I ground away an extra area to be sure that the ABS sensor was not being contacted, with the same thoughts of caution when pulling the new bearings into place AFTER I had competed this job, I ground out a vertical channel on the inner face of the rear "fitting" plate - just while I remembered trashing an ABS sensor. Remember to use plenty Moly grease on the forcing screw rod, its nut and its thrust bearings, also clean up/out the area where the new bearing will land into and apply just a touch of Lithium based grease to help ease the bearing in.
  41. You do get problems with some new items, remember the Galaxy notes catching fire a few years ago? Best not to get to complacent and stay safe.
  42. Well I pushed the button. Now I just have to wait 5 months or so…
  43. I'd go with 13 https://www.tunershop.shop/wheel-bolt-silver-m14x1-5-ball-seat-r13-38mm-for-skoda.html
  44. Well first things first. I am assuming when referring to sphere bolts they are referring to a domed seat surface rather than say a flat seat. This link came up and whilst may not show every type and the naming convention may differ in some countries shows some key style differences.. https://engineeringlearn.com/9-types-of-lug-nuts-lug-nut-sizes-lug-bolts-vs-lug-nuts/ As for the second part of your question that may just be a generic descriptor for the lug nuts used commonly on say r13, r14, r15 rims. I'd always go with the thread diameter and pitch as you've listed as matching what you want. M14x1.5x27..
  45. Labrador plus Terrier travel happily; use a proper fitted dog-guard
  46. I used to have an Airedale (not a small dog) who was fine for reasonably short periods (up to an hour say) in my old Golf hatchback. Sadly I no longer have the dog but as the Kamiq boot is bigger I would say a small to medium size pooch would be happy.
  47. Fresh after fall out iron cleansing and ceramic coating😎
  48. Deflectors arrived on time. I had to watch 4 Youtube videos before i figured out how to install them. They come with clips, and each clip has a smooth side and one side with a small "spike" . Had to figure out which side to push in. But after finding the right video (smooth side on outside). Took just a few mins and am happy with the look PS total cost was £38.00 (aprox)
  49. Oh that's good news that it's still working for some. The PR codes are dead useful on parts sites where there are several possibilities that need to be narrowed down.
