DSG 7-speed gearbox complete failure - are Skoda UK likely to pick up repair costs?
You are all assuming that it’s an internal failure caused by lack of servicing. Rather than the failure being ‘total failure’ I’d be asking what specifically has failed. Has a boulder came up and smashed the gearbox causing it to loose fluid, had a bearing failed, has the pump failed? There are these and so many more cause of failure and all the speculation without a true confirmed cause won’t help anyone. (Unless I’ve missed a stated reason for failure among all this)3 points

the truth about electric cars
3 pointsIt's funny. During day outs, I often joke to my wife that if I'm injured, she can't get home. Because after 1 year with Tesla, she still hasn't sat in the driver's seat. She's just not interested in driving. She always replies she can uber/taxi to nearest train station and get home. Not sure what my point is TBH. May be there's always options to not get stranded? I know AutoAid breakdown covers EV out-of-juice situations. Last time I had trouble rapid charging was a few years ago, I miscalculated and need a small top up in the Leaf. 1st was offline, 2nd single charger was occupied, 3rd wouldn't start. Since then, 1st location South Mimms now have 8 chargers installed, not including 12 Tesla ones. 2nd location was Shell garage down A1, now have 8 chargers. Third location, another Shell, has had charger removed. But a few min up the road there's Instavolt. The charging situation is improving at vast speed.3 points

the truth about electric cars
3 pointsBut nobody has to get an EV if they do not want one, which is the crux of the matter. We know it needs to be simple, because many people can only do simple. It is not like it has not been said for years now, so things are changing. Touch screen is pretty useless for many right handed people in right hand drive cars. And there are gear stick / shifters with buttons on lights to suit left hand drive cars. We have to worry about all these people that can not afford to visit London in non compliant cars and have not £12.50 or exemption, and will be broke if penalised. ........ MOTABILITY is trying to make it much easier for those leasing cars from them. drivers or passengers. Chargers need to be easier to use for the infirm, wheelchair bound etc. Planners / designers need to get in a wheel chair and try charging an EV. Or even fueling an ICE vehicle. http://pauatech.com3 points

the truth about electric cars
3 pointsI think the issue is the pre-auth amount per charging attempt and low charger reliability means sometimes multiple tries is required. Genie point with their low reliability is £35 pre-auth per attempt: https://www.speakev.com/threads/genie-point-pre-auth-price-increase.179332/ Instavolt seems to be £15 or £30: https://instavolt.co.uk/faqs/ Podpoint is also £30: https://pod-point.com/legal/public-charger-terms-of-use This is the story with BP I talked about earlier: https://www.speakev.com/threads/should-we-be-boycotting-bp-pulse-for-sharp-practices.167226/ I always use credit card and have high limit cards, so pre-auth isn't a worry for me personally. But i can see it being a problem for debit cards or people living on the limit.3 points

the truth about electric cars
3 pointsOFF TOPIC WARNING The last time I was pulled over into one of these was on the A303 in the Wylye Valley - in 1998 while driving a motorhome. The advice they gave was ridiculous - move a heavy weight (electric scooter motor and gearbox assembly) from low down on the floor at the rear to over the cab in the luton - to reduce the rear axle weight by 30kg. That amount of weight nearly 7 feet up made the handling questionable to say the least... Back to the topic, I think this thread now contains too much personal points scoring and maybe has run it's course and that a halt (temporary or permanent) might be a good idea?3 points

3 pointsOne youtube video recommended not suing pay at pump but going in to the shop to pay as then it is just treated as a normal transaction and no pre-authorising reserving up to £130 which is the UK maximum and some have reserved I gather. I use a company fuel card for most of my purchases and then oft go in to the TESCOs shop to buy a meal deal , or two, and use the TESCO points if we ae filling up the ETECH full hybrid but that is doing around 70 mpg so does not need filling very often but certainly pay at pump will be used much less as word gets around and people bank accounts get even more stretched as we go deeper in to the cost of living crisis due to mortgage and credit card debt. First charge up in the EV was a doddle with the Electoverse, one card to rule them all. Nip off a get the McDs, no smelly carcinogenic fuel handling, I never use to use the gloves, some places even do gloves for the EV charging leads, wonder what that it to guard against, horrible to think but perhaps I should have my own gloves ready.3 points- Airbag Recall

2 pointsAngus Council had a sign up when building a new EV hub in Forfar and took it down before the place openned. I asked why no signs on the A90 to direct drivers to where the hub is since so many get lost. The Roads Convener told me he would contact the roads department. Nothing. All around Scotland it is the same, signs saying Services or Park & Ride, but as for directing to EV Chargers. Nothing. There are EU funded or partially funded hubs all around and no signs to show that.2 points- the truth about electric cars

Sadly DSG,s and servicing is very much a mystery and no help for owners / drivers from Skoda / VW Dealerships who might well do up-selling but not let people know about important Servicing & Maintenance. Really because the Service desk or Sales staff know nothing about it. They sell Approved Used cars that have not been Serviced to the Manufacturers guidelines, recommendations or specification and have done for many years. It is not a sealed unit, and a DQ200 DSG with no service interval is not a sealed unit. That term is another Main Dealership issue. Used by those without a clue about cars or mechanics of cars. Your father might well have been told that 7 speed DSG,s do not require services / Oil changes. because that is told daily to owners at main dealerships by staff on a service desk.2 points- DSG 7-speed gearbox complete failure - are Skoda UK likely to pick up repair costs?
Indeed. The independent said they don't deal with auto gearboxes and he would have made that clear to my dad, but I guess he must have been preoccupied caring for my mum and he didn't get round to doing it. Out of character for him as he knew his cars and knew what needed to be done. It's a good point though about awareness around the proper servicing. I understand this is a sealed unit, but also acknowledge that the gearbox hasn't been serviced as per recommendation, but I would have hoped and still hope to get many more miles out of this car. It feels knew or at least did before the gearbox went.2 points- DSG 7-speed gearbox complete failure - are Skoda UK likely to pick up repair costs?
That's frustrating. Maybe worth having a word with the garage your father used? As a bare minimum it may bring them to the conclusion that these boxes need servicing. There's been many discussions on here about what the term "full dealer service history" means. Many believe it to have covered everything that a car requires. Unfortunately you have discovered this not to be the case. Even more frustrating is independents (sounds like your father used one?) are usually more clued up about this sort of thing.2 points- Error codes/ limp mode/ possible crankshaft speed sensor?
Solved!.. So happy 😁 The OEM sensor never made a difference, it was not the crankshaft sensor at all but loose wires on an electronic water pump at the front of the car, it shares the same earth as the crankshaft sensor, it was probably moved a bit with each oil change and the wires were bare and touching, once the car was up to high temperature it went into limp mode as the pump kicked in, the best diagnostics garage in the area (usually 3 weeks wait) found it straight away..2 points- Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
It won't overheat, if that's what you're afraid of. There are fans on the radiator for a few reasons, additional heat transfer while stationary, and to pull air through the condenser 😃2 points- DSG 7-speed gearbox complete failure - are Skoda UK likely to pick up repair costs?
Also VW say no filter change. There are failures before ones have done anything like 40,000 miles so no the 80,000 oil change interval will not be the cause with those. Maybe those 40,000-80,000 could be said to be because of the service regime. Time will tell. it will come out in the wash. Maybe VW Group will change the Service Intervals, in Europe or Globally. 2 pointsI am peed off with Aberdeen and charging £1 to connect and getting no connection or charge. Charge Place Scotland are saying not their problem talk to Aberdeen council. I have told them it is very much their problem, they invoice and take the money and VAT for a service not provided. While this goes on i have charged twice at chargers in Aberdeenshire (That is not Aberdeen) and no charge of 47 pence a kWh or the £1 connections has been made, or on my account. So i will let it go this time. Well maybe, because they can miss taking money if that is how crap their infrastructure is but they are not getting paid for having faulty chargers that they never bother having fixed right in Aberdeen. *I have had hundreds of quids of free charging where there should be tariff charged because CPS, BP Polar /SWARCO who run things and now SWARCO are so useless.* Which is nice. With PodPoint i have my credit & have never had any loss of phone reception or unable to use the app. I do use a credit card. BP Pulse has my Credit, and now i have my Subscription finally. I will seemingly get a £9 voucher for 5 months. That is all i will use them for to use that £9, and then where i have to use BP Pulse Chargers with CPS in Edinburgh. Now 55 pence a kWh. I have the Motability Go Charge card now that has the payments all in one place for the partners with them. I have my Tesla account now, my Evyve account, my MFG Connect so pretty much sorted. Never used the LiFe ev card or app but used the charger and tapped my card. Never used Electroverse, EV Charging or some others that are all on my phone & have been for 3 years. Some sent key fob cards.2 points- Engine noise after topping car

I couldn't resist Kopacek's recent 22% of sale, so i added some "aero fins" to Gandalf's rear end....diffusser. Removed the diffuser so i could paint it gloss black, then the aero fins glued on as a single piece. As a result, my drag coefficient has dropped now and my fuel consumption has improved remarkably!! ....yeah, and pigs fly too!!!2 points- My second car I owned many years ago, fond memories.
I initially learned to drive at a slightly non-legal age in my Dad's 1934 Riley 9 Kestrel. I remember it had column change preselector gears (useful as I had to slide off the seat to hit the clutch) and those awful wipers - although there was also a handy lever on the wiper motor so one's 'assistant' could help the poor things along. Also thinking about it the wiper motor was electric, not vacuum driven, but it was the slowing down as the revs dropped that made me think of it. The Kestrel was a classic car but it never did much for me in battleship grey. The piccy isn't my Dad's - his was LV 7667.2 points- My second car I owned many years ago, fond memories.
Best ever car for maintenance (Spitfire equally) flip up bonnet giving full access to everything on engine and also steering and suspension, you could also sit on the front wheel while servicing it! Gearbox removed from within the vehicle also.2 points- Best Skoda for mostly short drives & occasional longer trip?
My dad has a 1.5 Karoq SE, I love driving that but struggled to fit 2 large suitcases in it along with hand luggage cases (I may well have been loading them wrong, it was 4am!) Locally I average about 35mpg in that but as it's not mine I don't exactly baby it, I have to test out the acceleration every now and again haha. That's a 2020 plate also so will be pretty similar to yours apart from the trim level. I have considered the Karoq but personally would prefer an estate car, even though the Karoq is classed as one at our Skoda dealer, as I'm trying to plan ahead for the future as well as now. Whatever car I decide to get I'll be keeping until it dies unless I'm lucky enough to win the lottery then it might have to go! Thanks for your reply.1 point- the truth about electric cars
1 pointMy prediction is that the VAT on electric will go rise across the board so everyone be paying more regardless of if you have an EV or not, VED will be applied, and it will be a hefty one as well. Road charging will take over from clean air zones and the charges will be based on 1/ the time of day, 2/ types of roads driven, 3/ number of people in your car and finally, 4/ distance travelled. Finally cyclists and e-scooters will have to be registered and carry number plates and they too will be charged to use roads in the same fashion, all collected by digital currency on the day of usage.1 point- the truth about electric cars

1 point- List of EV Tariff for 2.5p/mile motoring
I think I will keep my setup the flexible low tech way and it is just what to add to my Allpowers and Bluetti setup. Bjorn Nyland loves his Ecoflow and Ecoflow extra battery when he does his drive an EV until it dies then get the Ecoflows out of the boot, connects the Granny cable and tries to revive the EV but these "solar Generator/ battery/ inverter" thing-me-a-bobs can go by ones large consumption devices at home or in the boot of the car and certainly will come with me when I move to my castle in Wales when I go in to survivor mode. Question is what box to get next. Looking at around 3 kwh, 3 kw DC to AC inverter and circa 1 kW solar controller and to pay less well than 50p per Wh/W battery/inverter ie about a grand or thereabouts.1 point- Infotainment System Restarting endlessly

1 pointGood work. Looking at the photos, I was going to suggest checking the oilfilter housing and bracket and oil cooler connected to it, as they are in pretty close proximity to the alternator and drive belt and higher up (so oil can drop down). You know how oil splatters once it gets near a drive belt, it can be hard to locate source without cleaning up and monitoring. Anyhow, may help the responder asking how you got on, I'd their problem is not the crank pulley seal.1 point- DSG 7-speed gearbox complete failure - are Skoda UK likely to pick up repair costs?
Thank you. Its a 2017 (6 year-old) and is the DQ381 7-speed gearbox. Turns out the oil was not changed at 80k so I'm not holding my breath with Skoda. Best case now is that I get a reconditioned unit and also get the MCU fixed which I understand has also been affected. Some places I spoke to only said they would be able to deal with the mechanical part of the gearbox. If anyone out there including your contacts @toot could help me source a good reconditioned DSG, I would be most grateful. Thank you1 point- Skoda Octavia Mk3 2.0tdi 150 timing kit

1 point@Lee I'm not sure what you are trying say, I get it that the Germany TUV might be tougher, but are quibbling over the inclusion of the word "strict" in my post or are you saying that each tester/inspector makes their own rules up on what comprises a pass or a fail, I'm confused. Having worked alongside many DOT inspectors for a number of years and I mean worked closely with them when they came to the bus garage to carry out the annual inspections on the fleet, I can assure you that the tests are extremely through and there was no such thing as that will be near enough, they have strict benchmarks that have to be met, even if the brakes were just 1% below the performance levels required for a pass on their brake meters, it was an automatic fail, likewise on emissions, yes they had emission tests years ago, and it was a clear-cut pass/fail test, no corners were given. So using my experience and seeing my local Skoda test centre carry out MOT's it still seems to be pretty strict to me, even down to I have to remove the TomTom satnav from the car as it is mounted low on the dash as I'm very tall and can clearly see over the top of it, the MOT tester is short and always insists it is removed prior to the test.1 point- the truth about electric cars
1 pointNope, I agree but other google references to do use the term strict, but it doesn't alter that there are pass marks and fail marks set out in the test sheets that MOT testers and also department of transport roadside inspectors used to decide whether your vehicle complies to the standard or not i.e., pass or fail or indeed receives an immediate prohibition order, it is not down to the person at the time decide their own pass or fail ratings.1 point- My second car I owned many years ago, fond memories.

That's just one of several possibilities. I would measure the battery voltage under several conditions before jumping to conclusions: - first thing in the morning before ignition on or starting - immediately after starting - whilst driving if possible - when getting home in the evening I found this useful for monitoring battery voltage.1 point- Drivers side engine oil leak
1 pointHi, I managed to sort the majority of my issue by replacing the crankshaft oil seal as described above. Followed a YouTube tutorial and replaced the seal. Took a good few hours due to getting the wrong seal initially. I purchased a crank shaft pulley tool from ebay and cut the handle down to size as I was working on axel stands. The official vw tool is somewhat expensive and managed to find a 3rd party equivalent for around £20. I'm approx 2000miles in after doing the work and all seems to be OK from the oil seal at the moment. I still have a very minor leak but I suspect that's from elsewhere. If I were to do it again, I would replace the pulley while I'm at it for peace of mind.1 point- Ride height after changing front struts
Bilstein 36-241583 is sold to replace both 1K0411105AQ and 1K0411105HJ, so might match 1K0411105HJ rather than 1K0411105AQ. The reason that I suggest that it might match 1K0411105HJ rather than 1K0411105AQ, is because 1K0411105HJ is a heavier duty spring, and usually an aftermarket brand won't sell a softer spring (or shorter spring) than the actual spring that it is being sold to replace. This makes sense, because it could be dangerous to fit springs that are too weak for your car. There are plenty of aftermarket springs that are sold to replace only 1K0411105AQ from brands such as Kilen, Lesjofors, KYB, Sachs, and many others. So there really was no need to compromise with a one size fits all Bilstein 36-241583 spring. It would appear that the 1K0411105AQ should have a wire diameter of 11.75mm. If you measure the wire diameter of Bilstein 36-241583 you might find that it has a thicker wire diameter than this, perhaps 12.25mm. You could also weigh the Bilstein 36-241583. It would appear that the 1K0411105AQ should weigh about 1.65kg, but the Bilstein might weigh about 1.85kg. Which again, would indicate that the Bilstein 36-241583 is not a 1K0411105AQ spring. 1 pointHi, It must be a couple of years ago since I visited Rufforth Auto Jumble near York the only distance covered in the meantime had been to hospitals. Apart from the usual 50mph stretch on the M1 it was mostly 70mph both ways with cruise control engaged; what an absolutely delightful car our Yeti is to own & drive. I didn't want anything but I returned home about £60 less in the pocket with a load of goodies; I always end up buying urgent items I didn't know I needed. Here's to many more years of Yeti enjoyment. Kind regards, Colin.1 point- Creaking noise when getting into car
I have this on mine, which it had done from new. My noise comes from the handbrake, and is not there if I put gear in Park (auto) and leave handbrake off. I would try parking with car in gear (if manual), but with handbrake off, to see if still creaks.1 point- Oil service reset
