  1. I think we need to explore the possibility that the Range Rover was equipped with an experimental warp core and what happened was a small warp core breach. It's certainly looks like it opened a rift into a parallel universe for some people.
  2. All fixed. The ignition switch it self appeared like it wasn't clocked in the right position, so wasn't sending a signal. Reset it, checked it with a multi-meter, and re-assembled and car now starts! ESP light has gone now too, I think that occurs when you disconnect the battery and it goes off after about 100 yards.
  3. I really am now loosing interest in this 'Truth about electric cars' which has now gone all 'possibly a hybrid' and such guff. I want to use the term used by the artist formally knows as @KenONeill, This is supposedly about Scalextric cars. So they can burn, burn hot, even burn liquid fuel if they are range extenders. It is how it is and it will be politicians and civil servants that make decisions on parking and storage and all that guff, nobody on here though.
  4. A good few threads on the Octavia section of Octavia 3 models destroying themselves by fire. No shortage in my experience of jcb fastracs destroying themselves by fire. All vehicles road, rail, water, air, whatever have set on fire. If it’s on fire then the diesel tank will eventually go bang, if it’s petrol the tank will eventually go bang, if it’s electric with an x tens of kw battery that will eventually go bang, jet aircraft will explode. Now, horse and carts, they’re pretty safe fire wise.
  5. Couple from last week
  6. New brake discs and pads all round. DBA T3x rotors + Xtreme Performance pads on the front and T2t rotors + Street Performance pads. Pedal feel is great, feeling more linear and firm. Definitely less initial bite but it’s not like they need to be warmed up.
  7. Oh good grief. I'm done with this now.
  8. @Apollyon001 Firstly, the available range mode is biased by what you achieved on the last fill, and on recent miles. For example, I would normally have used my car for a commute of about 11 miles, the last half mile being up a steep hill. I would occasionally make a trip that involved most of the commute, and then another 9 miles of more or less level roads. I would invariably reach the destination on those trips (less than one trip per tank of fuel) showing a greater available range than I left my house with. As @Stonekeeper implies, the only reliable MPG figures are those derived from distance covered / fuel volume used data over preferably several complete tanks of of fuel...
  9. Why not just wait for the results of the investigation. I am intrigued that you think the Fire investigators will only have access to the public database for Tax and Mot status. Could they not possibly have access to registration document details? And the ability to talk to the owner? In cases were ev's have caught fire the drivers have been seen to rush to the press with their story, haven't seen that yet either. As i said earlier i am not discounting the hybrid possibility but would now be very surprised if it turned out to be the case
  10. For someone who sermonises that all others have closed minds I am surprised that you did not include WMD in your possibilities! "A simple nitrous oxide kit........................." Good point there must be hundreds of those amongst the parked cars, laughing gas is not something anyone reading this topic will need.
  11. Many thanks for all the replies and advice above 👍 🙂 To answer some questions: 1) I have had the car for 1 year and 8 months. 2) I change the oil at 12 month intervals - done at point of sale and again 12 months later. 3) I only cover around 5,000-6,000 miles per year. 4) The car performs faultlessly in all respects. 5) I'm not too concerned about the 3,500 mile per litre consumption, but just wondered what members here thought about this. 6) I am grateful for all your comments - many thanks folks! 🙂
  12. My understanding is that VAG consider anything less than a litre every 1000 miles to be "normal". That's what was said to many other owners of my previous car (an RS4) when they complained of a litre every 2000 miles or so.
  13. Sky was beautifully clear today - this flew over at 34k feet ✈️
  14. But you are regarded as a higher risk accident magnet by the insurers hence your premium increase.
  15. If helps, using the fuel computer in my car i avge 34.6 mpg On my trip to devon this year i left the house with a full tank and a range of 426. as i went down the motorway the range increased to a point where i had done over 100 mile and had range left more than i left home with, i seem to remember it reaching 500 miles as i travelled.
  16. The best way to check mpg is keeping mileage readings and fuelling the car Full tank to full tank. If the predicted range was based upon your computers current age mpg status The range changes if the avge drops. You can toggle between current consumption, Average consumption and range. If you leave it on Current consumption you can see the figure rise to 99.9mpg whilst going down hill and down to below 20mpg going up. A true average of 60 -70 mpg would be fantastic for a 1.9 diesel but i imagine involves many motorway miles. Hones john customer real mpg reviews. car handbook https://ownersmanuals.blob.core.windows.net/ownersmanuals/en/Octavia_1Z/05-2007/OwnersManual.pdf
  17. Its not that I doubt what you said, I know that your words I quoted were rubbish and were nothing to do with a mechanic checking for a misfire and everything to do with the pool of burning diesel shown in the photos of the car park fire, a fuel which you say can only burn in an engine cylinder under massive compression to support your contention that the flames are from a lithium battery pack. I honestly think you dont know half the time what you are writing or what you have written, even when people quote it directly you go off on some tangent. n people quote it directly you go off on some tangent.
  18. Unlikely to be the immobiliser - fault is more likely to be a faulty connection on the key switch. AFAIK, engine will crank (but not fire) if immobiliser chip incorrect or faulty.
  19. The feedback of the TESLA semi, as they call it in the US, seeming to prove the ICE Truck experts yet again stuck in the past and as with cars it is increasingly looking like it will cost many truck manufacturers their business being so slow to adopt electrification. There are none so blind than those that can see. Tesla now recruiting for energy roll out in the UK. The only worry is that TESLA will be running up against the competition authorities which is sa shame when one gets penalised for being so good and allows mediocrity to continue. I hope Skoda, Octopus and Gridserve etc do manage to survive but against the might of TESLA is it difficult to see how. Sounds like Skoda is shrinking rapidly in China, where half the profits come from as failing to compete against TELSA, SIAC etc. EU to cry foul and saying state owned company infringing EU Anti-Dumping rules not too far away it may be ?
  20. Also don't just use water in the system as the water more likely to stagnate and block the pipes. Thanks. AG Falco
  21. And all internal combustion engines have an efficiency less than have of electric battery/motors !!
  22. Just renewed my car insurance which has increased by just over 55%. Ouch! Interestingly, the renewal was still cheaper than the best the site scrapers could come up with, so that's nice I suppose.
  23. Use any oil to the Spec VW 504 00 / 507 00 so 5w 30 FS III. ASDA, TESCO etc are fine, proper oil produced by proper oil compaines. Or go non Long life oil at the next Oil & Filter change. VW502 00 so basically '5w 40 FS'. Fixed Service Oil Changes, 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner. Non Long Life oil and a long living 2.0 TSI Euro 5 / 6. .............. If running it on E10 95 Ron maybe get in E5 97 or 99 ron. Maybe Tesco Momentum 99 or Sainsbury,s Super Unleaded 97 ron Minimum. Winter spec petrol starts getting delivered starting in Scotlsnd and North of England from now.
  24. just seen this reply. We customers have no contact with the underwriter. Customer services will have no contact with them either. The only contact we have is with the monkey, not the organ grinder. I was surprised today to find my renewal quote with Aviva has gone up from £325 to £366. Not pleasantly surprised of course but when the cheapest comparison site quote ( for less cover and double the excess ) was £407 with Flow, the next being £498 with Churchill ( their basic cover ), I don't ever recall seeing such a wide spread of prices in car insurance. I've insured with Direct Line several times in the past, sometimes they're one of the cheaperst but they've never been that far off the mark. This year they want £798 FFS. There's nobody can give you a reason why your insurance price has altered. I thought I knew most of the tricks to lessen your insurance premium but listened with interest to Martin Lewis on 5 Live during the week. He was saying that they've found the ideal time to buy your insurance is approx 21day before renewal. For Joe Average , if you search 30 days before renewal, then the prices are high. They lower towards that 21 day mark, then as the renewal date approaches, the prices steadily increase again. I've certainly noticed prices changing in the month leading up to renewal but never realised there was any pattern to it. Now how does that relate to some fixed rule that a price has changed because of some previous incident? Insurance premiums - it's no different to the tic-tac bookmaker on a racecourse. He has a bag of money and he'll constantly alter the odds depending on how many bets are placed and his potential pay out. Over time, the ones who get their sums right can make a killing, the ones who get it wrong ( like John McCririck ) have to look for another career. Speaking of which, just look at the number of insurers / brokers who've gone to the wall in recent years. Many of them are now owned by the same parent company.
  25. This warning applies to all models fitted with the 1.2tsi EA111 chaincam engines, includes Fabia, Octavia,Yeti, Rapid, Spaceback maybe some others. Also a wide range of other VAG models VW, Seat, Audi with the 1.2tsi engines Today I picked up a Bosch Filter from Eurocarparts for our 2011 1.2tsi Octavia. Checked it before leaving the shop and it is the wrong style of filter. The sealing arrangement on this Bosch filter is for the 1.4tsi engine and is NOT suitable for the 1.2tsi. Also it is a Black filter and not Silver indicating it has a paper filter element and not the synthetic filter that is specified for tsi engines and is the only type suitable for an extended serivce regime (2yr/18600 miles) Bosch filters are rebranded filters made by other manufacturers and have appeared in this case to have changed from MANN made in Germany to another manufacturer now made in France. MANN filters being the OE manufacturer for VAG supplying VAG branded filters to dealers. This may explain the issue experience of @Dazl1212 and his knocking engine Now I know he definitely had the incorrect filter type fitted. So probably had low oil pressure damaging his engine. He ended up getting shut of his car Bosch evidently have not checked their new supplier is shipping the correct part. They are using the 1.2tsi part no but supplying a 1.4tsi part. What it should look like, note the rubber sleeve This is what the Bosch filter ECP supplied looked like except it was in Black and had the 1.2tsi part no printed on the box For reference this is the correct MANN OE filter That sleeve is important. Even Mahle in their video I posted elsewhere warn not to confuse the 2 filter styles. Genuine VAG filter
  26. Lovely sunset earlier, although very cold 🥶
  27. True it doesn't seem fair but you will be a higher risk now because of where you drive and the fact that the accidents have proved your risk rating to be higher than others...
  28. Unfortunately insurance companies have shareholders to pay. They have to have a bigger turnover every year to keep up with inflation They know what they paid out the previous year so will take steps to cover that They also know that a percentage of renewals will lapse because of the increase so will add on for that too. They also have a database linked to each other so now it appear even using comparison sites doesn't help much.. This year is the first year i have searched and not found one quote lower than my renewal price (that is suspicious)
  29. New cars use a thinner oil and run much hotter, they will burn through oil whereas older cars just used to leak it out like a sieve 😂
  30. I once had a boat mis-fuelled with petrol (Volvo turbo-diesel) - ended up with estimated 40/60 mix! - engine ran slightly hot at full throttle, but only discovered mis-fuel, after several hours running, when I checked the tank. Fortunately, resulted in no discernible damage to the engine.
  31. That diesel must have been combined with Li-on battery. Surely! Ah yes, diesel in fuel tank doesn't combust because it wouldn't lit with match, it must mean it's not a diesel vehicle. Great logic So you think the fire dept must have had the same video, didn't question eye witness, didn't seek out and interview vehicle owner, and surely didn't have more evidence than us. As I said, biased. Anything to justify your original baseless assertions.
  32. And bloody difficult to get near to stociometric ratio.
  33. Rubbish, diesel burns at atmospheric temperature when vaporized and exposed to an ignition source, at which point the fire is self sustaining. It was used for heating and lighting long before the Diesel engine was invented and continues to this day.
  34. NOX has to have extra fuel injected at the same time as just NOX will only lean out the engine and blow it up.
  35. Oh so clever, have you never heard of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) being used to boost an engines' performance then. Adding NoS nitrous oxide to boost power gains. (carref.com), Big Power With Nitrous—300-500hp at the touch of a button (dieselworldmag.com), In case you or anyone else is going to claim that it is illegal to use it on road going cars, then, you might want to read this from the experts before making such a claim? Are Wizards of NOS Nitrous Oxide Systems legal on road cars? (noswizard.com) Adrian Flux, one of the Briskoda recommended insurance companies, is also referenced in that link as one of the insurance companies helping with getting laughing gas injection on road cars legalised.

Very well - it’s made by Hudway, and is their third generation device. I’ve been using their stuff since I backed them on Kickstarter, as a start-up.
  37. You are arguing with one of the 10 members I have blocked, just saying...
  38. Maybe it is the 3 cyl engine, as i have not driven one before.
  39. Carlos has now sold. Thank you for all of the interest and could the admins please mark as sold ? Car sold to a fellow Briskoda member - The power of Briskoda, awesome.
  40. Muppet technician that did this ball-sup of an Oil Consumption test even thought a litre of engine oil weighs 1,000 grams. Which it does not. The member got their new engine once this was pointed out to Skoda UK warranties. Happened often with 1.4 TSI Twincharger Fabia Mk2,s where some at dealerships said a litre in 1,000 km was acceptable because someone told them that was the number.
  41. Not in my albeit limited experience. My 2015 vRS used no oil, although it was only at 25k miles when I sold it. My current GTI (230, but also EA888 G3) also uses no oil - currently at 31k miles. Someone else with greater knowledge than me will be able to say what Skoda/VAG consider 'acceptable' oil usage. Gaz

Just got back from the USA, where my mate Jorge had bought me a "kill tally"... 😆

Sorry to hear this. (spelling) Motability have just last month changed their insurers to Direct Line. (Which is a good thing.) She will be well looked after, just make sure you are by our Insurer who have or should have no problem having Direct Line make them whole so you as well.

Did you find who did it?
  45. My premium went from £570 to £1,307, and I was with Better by Miles, and they were underwritten by Zurich, BBM have been brought out by Direct Line and have severed all connections with Zurich and doing their own underwriting, apparently. Zurich have also, I was told by someone there, have pulled out of car insurance all together as claims are spiralling out of control. So how can DL justify more than doubling my original premium when it came renewal time? I had other quotes for the same car and cover ranging from £1.2K to just over £4.3K, go figure.
  46. Sent just now from my Daughter, looking up from the Masai Mara, Kenya. iPhone 14 Pro, 10 second exposure: Gaz
  47. My Daughter's currently in Nairobi, meeting hefalumps: And not a hefalump: Gaz
  48. So, got the insurance sorted for the Fabia, so it's back on the road as of Tuesday. In the meantime, it found itself a friend. Well chuffed with this Vectra, not sure if I'll make a project thread for it yet, as I don't plan on modifying it, just keeping it running and tidy. So aye, I find myself with two lovely runners. The Vectra will be doing most of the summer mileage, and the Fabia will remain as the "everything else" car including LEZ, towing, etc.
  49. Issue turned out to be the starter motor
