  1. On then19th October, my 2016 OEM MOLL EFB battery was replaced with an RAC branded Varta Silver Dynamic AGM 570 901 076.
  2. The Bosch S5 A08 is an AGM battery the Varta N70 is not the same The 096 AGM Varta battery is E39 or newly labelled A7 They have not supplied an "equivalent" battery to the one ordered
  3. I think all political parties are quite content to "kick that can down the road" because of concerns about upsetting voters until it becomes an economic necessity.
  4. New Barrel in, and it works a treat. Was testing the chinese one on the bench and sure enough it doesn't re-engage the lock when you remove the key. Something in the mechanism is sticky, you have to give it a bit of a wack before it clicks off. The proper VAG ignition barrel is a much higher quality part, it's night and day. Moral of the story here is that cheaping on some parts often doesn't pay off.
  5. Hi Moribund, I can't really remember exactly how did I do it, but it was straight forward...it took only 2 minutes to replace it. I didn't had to take any trim out. I guess I used flat head screw driver to pry open the switch from the side and unplugged and replaced it with the new one. I must have watched video and if i find videos in my watch history I'll let you know.

You're right, need 2 keys so need to wait til No 2 is delivered and configured. On the plus side, I got SOOO close - "press unlock on second key" but while sat in and playing, another OTA came in and did it's stuff, whatever it did. Slow progress but it's progress.

Since the Infotainment software was updated to 1941 and SOS Module firmware was also updated it's all been good (touch wood). Whilst the selling dealer should have updated the software (as per Skoda Approved Car policy) prior to me buying it I count myself fortunate that at long last there is a relatively stable software version available. Reading this forum the whole software debacle dragged on for far to long with no resolution and clueless Skoda UK and their dealer network causing a lot of stress for Octavia MK4 owners. This forum was invaluable as I read multiple postings so when I turned up at the dealer I was fully armed in exactly what I believed they needed to do which was primarily "Don't just update to version 1941, also check the SOS Module firmware"
  8. Hi all, I joined this forum last year when I bought my Skoda Mkii (2015) but forgot to post an introduction - oops Well here it is, This is my first Skoda and I'm very happy with it so far, it's an Octavia Estate 2.0 TDi - Estate required as I am a singer & guitarist in a rock covers band and I have to transport the PA, amps & guitars to gigs - I really should take up harmonica lol. Apart from one niggle which I didn't spot when I first got it - the drivers side heated mirror doesn't work - the Passenger side works so I suspect a fault in either the wiring or the mirror itself (maybe it was replaced with a non-heated version - who knows) but I will check it when the weather warms up a little and hopefully will be working for next winter haha. Well that's all from me - I will try to get back here more regularly in future.
  9. I had a similar leak on my second-hand 2018 vRS 245 which was fixed under warranty. You might want to try taking it to a Skoda garage as there is TPI 2049121/4 related to this. Including changes to how they were fitted: Even if they won't cover the full cost, you might get some good-will if it does match with the TPI
  10. The big increase will come but we don't know yet what form it will take - i.e whatever form of taxation the government chooses to use to replace the lost taxation from fuel duty.
  11. As I understand it, unfortunately with this kind of problem you don't know whether it is the master or slave. Are you losing hydraulic fluid, can you see any leaks around the master? Worst case scenario you replace clutch, flywheel and slave find out that it was a master all along. I would be tempted to replace the master cylinder first which is the cheapest job.
  12. There will be VED to pay. Public charging will, maybe home tariffs will be more expensive. Some will still be able to charge cheaply with Solar or Hydro they control. Plenty EV,s coming matched to ICE vehicles prices, cheaper ones even, and servicing might cost less. Running costs. There will be Low Emission Zones and parking that might be cheaper / free for EV,s. There is Parking & access that might be free now and charging that will no longer be. It always looks like ICE vehicle running costs will become higher and they will do even though the Westminster Parliament and the devolved ones dither about and mess the motoring public and business,s about. ............. A year ago and a car salesperson and how things change, budget to budget or Chancellor to Chancellor. One thing at present is clear, Business users have more financial reasons to run EV,s than the General Public & using Public Charging is not the same hit as with private buyers / leasers of EV,s
  13. @Graham Butcher You can not pick holes because as you keeping saying, you do not know this or that. McMaster is stupid on purpose. He is doing it for affect. He passes obvious charging locations that are good and he does the same trips time after time doing the same crap and repeating it. Like Just get a Tesla. Well just get a brain and just get Tyres because you will need them.
  14. If people are not getting an EV or needing to charge an EV then why get your nickers in a twist over charging? Drive on with your ICE vehicles to 2035 & beyond. As to traffic and weather then @wyx087you maybe need to get out and about where there is actually adverse weather and the need to get to chargers and be aware getting to some might not be possible because of flooding or closures with snow. Barstard MINI has no idea what i am asking from the Sat Nav. My recent destinations on Quick check are all in Germany as it thinks i ask for locations in Germany. (The BMW i have for 3 weeks at a time is very very good Sat Nav wise and understanding what is asked for) The PARTNER Mini charger destinations it shows are just hopeless as it is dealerships the 7 kW chargers and that are maybe open during business time so pretty hopeless. Asking for chargers is a waste of time. I really can not use my left hand on a centre screen to search for anything and i just don't, even stopped it is me that is useless at it so it is WAZE i use on the phone. The i-drive is a saviour and great for making phone calls with the selector easy to just use between the seats and the info showing in front of me on the dash. There is Sat Nav directions there as well if used but in time script. ............ He annoys me more than Taycan man. I watch to see what his next gems are. If you do just get a Tesla please do not abandon them on chargers for hours locked in because you want a full battery and range even if you are not going even half the range the full battery gives. This applies to anyone / car really. Stop the stupidity. Roadworks Dundee -Perth have caused hold up for weeks because of a crane hitting a bridge. (I only ever go that way if going to Dundee.) Dundee got the Kingsway decades ago and then it became slow. There are by-pass plans for Dundee but too late now because of new buildings approved. No idea why he never crosses from Forfar to Perth and the Tesla Supercharger there. 31 miles, takes 45 minutes, sometimes 60.
  15. 54 seconds in described in this video...... Nick is a Renault dealership worker.
  16. The complication of these vehicles is increasing well beyond the competence of the poor mechanics expected to fix them and the cost to the hapless owners of the misaimed parts & labour cannon rises exponentially. I dread to think how much the OP has been taken for so far 😒 Its time that the training and occupation of vehicle mechanic was elevated from the craft intake, technician in a few cases to higher than that of a surgeon or lawyer. The N82 valve sounds probable.

  18. Hi All Not sure if this will be of use to anyone, but I have copied this courtesy of Mr-Fix on Youtube. Below are the current model numbers of the various Infotainment units in the VW group. 19. Today was my first time changing wheels on this March ‘23 car. The winter wheels have been used on 2 previous Bears. I’ve never seen such messy wheel bolts. A mere 7,000 summer miles. A wire brush and some WD40 cleaned things up.
  20. Yes this was all time on BCM. I didnt know without DCC the car oly have 1 Sensor. We read the electric diagram and saw that only one sensor is connected to 4B unit.
  21. Problem solved. It was a wrong coding in 4B. My car has no DCC, but we took data from a car with dcc. So we coded 2 LWR sensors, but my car only has one. After coding to 1 Sensor i could run basic settig and every thing is okay. Much thanks to ervery one here for help!!
  22. UK Press are not very good at technical stuff as well as most other actually delivering news/accurate information rather than bias opinion that they think their reads will lap up. Bridgewater not well know but will be when the half billion pound battery factory is biult. Just go past Bristol, over the Avon bridge, up the Portishead to Clevedon elevated section and then past Weston with its mud beach, and Burnham the follow the sulphur smell to Bridgewater. Did a visit to Hinkley point when both the Magnox and AGR ie Hinkley A and B were running. As most power stations so inefficient that warm water fish live in the cooling water outflow in the Bristol Channel. we need Hinkley C for energy security but I am glad I do not live close to it.
  23. I had one that lasted about 11 years then two in quick succession that died after a year. I went back to a standard battery. Probably my fault as they got to a low state of charge that effectively killed them as they then wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few days. No such problems with a standard one at half the price.
  24. Black/yellow wires going in and out of the 14-way connector pair near the nearside suspension tower, pin 11, is one option. What do you aim to power from it? That wire is fused at 7.5A (cabin fuse 3), but that fuse serves several different consumers so you wouldn't want to add much load to it.
  25. You don’t realise just how bad they are until you swap them out! Not really sure where to start on the CarPlay unit. It’s all wired in as it should be. I might do some research on any potential issues before ripping it out again though. Electrics in cars drive me mad!
  26. My Citigo has the best headlights out of the 4 cars I have. But all of them have Osram Nightbreakers in them. Thanks. AG Falco
  27. The front and rear springs that come in the E10-81-010-05-22 kit do appear to be correct for the Fabia MK3 1.2TSI. It appears that Eibach has made a mistake by listing the Fabia 5J (MK2), as that car uses different springs to what's in this kit. The Eibach spring catalogue (on ebay.de) shows that the E10-81-010-05-22 kit comprises F11-81-010-05-VA front springs and F11-81-010-04-HA rear springs.
  28. It sounds like a problem I had many years ago with a Citroen CX. The pin that locked the steering jammed in place and wouldn't spring out of engagement when I tried to start the car. I cleared it then by turning the steering wheel first to the left and then to the right, putting the steering under load in each direction. You have to try both directions as it is not obvious which direction will relieve the pressure. Try to start the car in each position to test if the pin has been freed. It worked for me at the time after a cou[le of goes. Failing that you will have to take the load off the front of the car to allow free movement of the steering wheel. Best pf luck.
  29. Hi Raising or lowering the dipped beam by a fraction of a degree makes a big difference to the distance at which the dipped beam top cutoff intersects with the road. The same change to the main beam is much less noticeable. I suggest you go back to the VAG indy and get them to reset the dipped beams nearer to the upper tolerance limit of the beam setter. I have my beams set at about -0.7% which with headlamps 780 mm above the ground places the cutoff on a level road about 100 m away. With this setting it always passes its MOT but I very occasionally get flashed by someone. The headlamps do also have manual allen key adjustments, in case the NS and OS beam heights are not quite the same.
  30. Turning the sound up whilst nav instructions speaking solved the issue. Still not wild about having to use a cable rather than wireless but at least it does what I want. thanks all for your help
  31. You do. Everything on the zipped file is dragged and dropped onto the SD / USB. Attached is the VW pdf guidance. Although the directory is labelled mib1 it takes files from there as well for mib2. Its a question that comes up from time to time. Just the way files are stored but you need the whole lot over. Discover_Pro_November_2020_EN.pdf
  32. Skoda Superb 3v 01/2019 Style Edition pre Facelift MY2019 3QD und 3Q0 have same Dataset but different Hardware and Firmware. 3QD = Made in China 3Q0 = Made in Germany
  33. I agree - recently has the 1941 update applied at dealership on my “new” used car as I couldn’t get the OTA on account of not being able to become primary user. Literally come from the most unstable Infotainment system to a stable one so would be very wary of applying a new update in case it all goes South again.
  34. Not sure you can set up Primsry user with one key - I thought you required two keys? Very annoying that the dealer wasn’t more thorough in resolving your issues.
  35. Ohh I often give longer answers than that! I would interpret it means both are satisfactory.
  36. Thanks. I thought my English was not good enough. But finally someone who understands my point. Indeed, this article let me think AGM is a better solution than EFB for my Mk3 https://batteryworld.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/efb-or-agm-which-battery-do-i-need Note: It’s a Varta to Varta comparison. No Bosch story. @Graham Butcher and @skomaz Have a look to spare parts websites and check how often EFB batteries suiting your Mk3 (based on nameplates) are proposed compared to AGM ones… I´ve looked at almost 8 or 10 french websites. No EFB was proposed for my car. Thus I’m convinced I´ve made the safest choice for me and my Mk3. Feel free to do differently if you think it’s a better option for you.
  37. The tape is directly over the light, behind the plastic screen - no examiner has ever mentioned it!
  38. Thanks 🙏 I no longer have the vRS. It was a bit of a duff experience, and I decided to change. Lots of parts were replaced and it felt very much like the parts and labour cannon to which @J.R. refers, was used. Ironically the actual fault was found, after many replaced items, by good old common sense and hands on mechanic'ing, with the realisation that a hose which should have been hot, was actually stone cold 🙄 As to whether the resulting farce would've happened had the fault been identified correctly in the first place, who knows. Gaz
  39. 3QD was fitted on the superb from october 2017 to november 2018 Unless his is 3QD980654A in which case that was fitted up to july 2019.
  40. The Varta N70 does not list as an AGM from what i can find The 096 Varta battery is E39 or newly labelled A7
  41. Quite - it will be put off for as long as possible as no matter how it is done you can be sure it will be very unpopular. It will be interesting to see how long it is before the fuel duty receipts start to drop off significantly, they haven't taken too much of a dent yet.
  42. The battery is simply a 'dumb' component that supplies 12v. Your comparison is irrelevant as it's like comparing apples and oranges. It's your car so your decision but your concern is unwarranted and, in my opinion, rather strange.
  43. Cheers. Yes mine is booked in for a 24mm whiteline rear anti roll bar. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the change so looking forward to it.
  44. The one certainty about electric motoring is that it is going to get a lot more expensive.
  45. There is no need to do anything, the difference is 0.78%. The you go to one of the comparison sites you get the result below:- This is less than the error in your speedo and the variations due to tyre wear.
  46. Looks like Cupra/SEAT owners will be getting version 1969 soon. Something to look forward to in the next 12 months for us.
  47. So I fitted a Hard Race front strut brace a week or so ago. I repainted the blue to a stainless steel metallic as the blue offended my OCD on an otherwise grey and black vehicle! The bar fitted well-ish - it is very snug against the windscreen washer bottle on the left side (as you face it from the front of the engine bay). I had to adjust the washer bottle a fraction to get it all to fit. You will absolutely need a wiper arm removal tool as my wiper arms really didn’t want to come off otherwise. I know JR managed to fit the brace without removing the wipers, and snaps to him for achieving that, but I definitely needed to the whole area clear. How does it drive? Well, tbh the change seems very minor and certainly not night-and-day like after fitting the rear sway bar, which made a massive improvement to handling. I also fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres a couple of days later, which are definitely cut above the OEM Pirelli P7’s, but probably mask any small improvement from the front strut brace. Overall, I would recommend the front strut brace, but well down the list after springs, rear sway bar and good tyres first.
  48. Facelift Citigo's like my 2018 use 4 x H7 bulbs. Is it a facelift one? Thanks. AG Faclo
  49. Hi welcome. Could be a few things and possibly more than one issue, have you only noticed this today or before, is it wet /damp where you are. It won't be the car battery or remote keyfob. You may need the help of someone with a VW appropriate scan tool and/or auto electrician. You would possibly get more and better answers in the forum for a Fabia Mk2 or Mk3 depending on which yours is. Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014) Discussion for the Mk2 Skoda Fabia from 2007-2014. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/113-skoda-fabia-mk-ii-2007-2014/ Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021) Discussion for the new Mk 3 Skoda Fabia from 2014/5-2021 - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/298-skoda-fabia-mk-iii-2014-2021/
  50. I'm getting 38-39MPG on regular unleaded, measured via same pump cut-off and trip mileage, so after a couple of refills, I'm going back to super unleaded. As far as I'm concerned, the benefits of 97+RON outweigh the possible saving in cost, and I'm not convinced there's a cost saving to be had. As fuel increases in price, the 10p difference in price between the two fuels (where I buy mine) will make any cost saving even less significant. Oh well, it was worth a try, and now I know. Of course now I have to do a similar check for Super unleaded, as my car was reading a little over 40mpg over the test period, having reset the long-term MPG. So as some of you have suggested, the in car figures really aren't worth a lot. Now I know that, too.
