  1. Another point to remember is that for many people (and probably a lot of people on these forums) owning a car and the act of driving one is about more than just economics, or outright speed. I see a lot of posts banging on about electricity being cheaper than petrol or diesel and electric cars being cheaper to run (although the initial outlay is often higher) and also about how fast they are 0-60 and the like. But honestly those two factors really don't bother me too much. yes I'm in the fortunate position of not having to worry too much about running costs (I do but not to the same extent as others) so it's lower down my priority, as is the ability to do 0-6 0 in 3 or 4 seconds (who cares about that - the novelty will soon wear off and it's not like we have roads that are so clear we can do it all the time, regardless of the legality in some areas). What I enjoy is the act of driving, even in traffic and congestion - the act of steering and the hand / leg / ear / eye coordination needed to change gear in a manual car smoothly etc. is what appeals and what I enjoy and EV's don;t seem to offer that experience. Maybe it's juts me - I see the appeal to some but I'm not yet there - maybe when I'm old and decrepit I'll appreciate the qualities of an EV...
  2. Relying solely on engine and tyre sensors and trusting service technicians to get it right is seemingly a common bad habit nowadays - I'm not suggesting it's necessary to carry out a full, military, first/last parade every time you drive a vehicle - but a regular quick check of levels, tyres, etc. is a great idea.
  3. Thank you all very much. I’ll let you know how I get on. Brilliant website!! Found and bought! Thanks again
  4. As jr says your alternator cant leak oil ,it doesnt have any to leak ,you need to find where its coming from and go from there .
  5. Mine did the same last week whilst on rural roads with long grass leaning into the road. The radar behind the central panel on the front grill used for the Front Assist features doesn’t like the vegetation and disables itself. My lights also extinguished once I made it back onto wider roads.
  6. which is nice except: a) you don't (generally) have a legal right to park on the road outside your house. b) the road outside your house may have parking restrictions (eg yellow lines) c) your house may not have direct road access within a reasonable distance of your property boundary (ie a pavements width) an example of C is my GFs daughter house which is 38m from the road to the property boundary and they have to park anywhere between the 2 red lines(on a good day, could be further on a bad day)
  7. Driving a manual in London jams is horrendous starting and stopping all the time causes the clutch plates to get very hot and distorted leading to jerky progess in deed and by the end of day working in those conditions did my left knee in. Automatics are king in traffic.
  8. There are some lovely automatics about. 8 speed auto or manual change, 6 speed in sport and manual change. BMW etc. Some lovely 2 pedal EV,s. Paddles for Regen so just as with an auto and reducing speed and not braking but getting on in control. As to one pedal driving, that does not mean just driving easy in town, but it can be, but it can be driving in a spirited manner. It is all about choices and not all EV,s are the same obviously but they are pretty much 2 pedal cars. Maybe not for New Drivers passing their driving test in them having a Restricted Automatic Only licence. PS Edit. Lots of dreamers around that think they are driving gods in the UK with a 60 mph NSL just because they need the left foot to use a clutch when changing gear.
  9. Transport. New and low cost to procure and run. All that is needed for many Civil Servants. Council Employees, NHS workers, Carers, Meter Readers, or anyone that needs to travel within towns or cities with vehicles that are part of a fleet and kept at works car parks. Basic Transport for the basic travel needs.
  10. running costs (other than insurance & to a lesser degree VED costs) are not a primary driver in my choice of vehicle. Neither is the ability to flaunt some green credentials. Looks, space & day to day useable practicality are my primary options followed probably by fuel consumption (on which note the Superb 1.4TSi (also with cylinder deactivation) suits me nicely, IIRC my average since purchasing in Feb has been around 43mpg). As for servicing I'll be using a local garage rather than main dealer who both my partner & I have used for a number of years rather than main stealer.
  11. Wow, when is super cheap even cheaper, carwow.....
  12. Just updating group members with a supplier of large range of parts for Skoda's This one has a large selection of serviceable items and some very hard to source items but some items still incredibly hard to find.... https://www.skoda-parts.com/catalog/105-120-130.html Another website in Germany which is excellent for sourcing extremely hard items to find.... The website is in German but very easy to translate using Opera browser or many other browsers. https://www.skopart24.com/shop/ 🚘😏 Hope group members find these of some use
  13. Try 0113 526 9449 or 01135264277 numbers - head office type numbers
  14. Lots of people want personal transport in the form of a car for Domestic, Leisure or Pleasure, and maybe commuting. Just safe reliable and affordable, or to their budget. They could not care less about the noise from a Motorsport Track carrying around the area, or cars with a nice exhaust sound, or a horrible one, or the ones with the noise and no go so the racket hangs about and the cars have not even got faster than 20 or 30 mph. As for Ultimate Driving Machines and spirited / sporting driving, many just want these types not up their jacksy trying to be in front at every opportunity, or where there is not an opportunity to pass safely and others have to brake to let them in. Driving experiences really are often for those living in a parallel universe on UK roads. Maybe go buy a karting session every now and again. Or go to a carnival and get on a dodgem.
  15. I do it's all in the connection type. They shifted to modern connections with mib3. (USB C). https://www.viewsonic.com/library/tech/usb-c-usb-b-and-usb-a-whats-the-difference/ Left top line USB A = mib1 / 2 Right top line USB C = mib 3 / 4 That's the socket you'll plug a lead into the car's presented area for a USB cable.
  16. The cover being the round plastic disc? Its only a dust cover for the one way sprag clutch and there should be no oil present or even grease to leak, the rotor bearings are sealed and inside the alternator housing. I would look carefully to see where the oil is coming from, if the auxiliary drive belt gets contaminated it can shred and rip apart the cam belt cover which in turn shreds the timing belt wrecking the engine. Any oil leak in that area should not be ignored and I dont believe that yours is from the alternator pulley.
  17. That will be absolutely fine
  18. I have been doing a little upgrade shopping from Kopacek (the site formerly known as Superskoda). Not much that needs upgrading on a Superb III to be honest, but a few bits I’ve been able to improve, and one purchase that turned out to be unusable: - Lid funnel for the washer bottle (have done this upgrade on both the Fabia IIs in the family and my old Spaceback - it’s such a good idea it’s a no-brainer). - Mega LED lights for the boot - these are a complete sealed body replacement for the boot lights (left and right sides of the boot) with much more powerful LEDs. Makes a massive difference. I did the same update in my Spaceback, which also suffered from a boot light with poor light output. - Black plastic boot lip protector. Sticks onto the top of the rear bumper and takes the hit if you catch the bumper putting anything in or out of the boot - Tablet Smart Holder - so now anyone sat in the back can mount their tablet using the Smart Holder attached to the rear armrest - Superb branded chrome keyfob tips (did both keys) The one mistake Inmade was ordering enhanced reflector/puddle lights for the front doors, only to discover the ones on my car are just reflectors and there’s no wiring there. Oh well, never mind. To do: - Uprated LED puddle lights for the underside of the front mirrors (now more important given the door reflectors can’t be upgraded) - Genuine Skoda roof bars More pics to follow.
  19. That's weird. I was looking up his channel yesterday and thinking I would contact him to review my standard but well equipped vRS....

Get the battery and alternator voltages checked first.
  21. Wot ? ( Even if mine is just a TDI ) ......... Not telling you where I live !
  22. Sorry, must have skipped or something. Oh and Autos can be more economical too. The 7 speed DSG in my beautiful Mk 2 Octavia, L&K, with the now unusual in the UK 1.8 TSI, short stroke version of the EA888, was a fantastic tool for both acceleration and economy, 57 mpg I think it was quoted at, 2 mpg better than the manual one could get.
  23. The nine speed Mercedes is about the best I have seen in a car, ZF box in my jap was nice and the 7 speed dry clutch DSG DQ200 although the lowish toque handling of 250 Nm was a bit limiting. Not a great fan of the DQ250 six speed though it was better to have that than the 5 speed manual I could have had in one Octavia but it had the last of the good diesel engines ie the noisy but frugal 1.9PD. It is all auto for me now as hybrids and BEVs are always automatic but this is the future. EV, one gear, some EVs have two are gather but they are rare. Can crawl along in the single gear, maximum torque come in at 8 mph and it will spin up to over 90 mph, cover the standing kilometer in 30 seconds in serene silence. 7,8,9 speed gearboxes are just another chunk of tech, like the ICE motor, more to go wrong, wear out, cost a fortune to fix, turbos, mechatronic units of DSG, now unnecessary tech IMO to be replaced ASAP.
  24. If it doesn't turn then the clutch is seized, the alternator can still turn and operate with a broken clutch.
  25. True, but the cars in question at the time were Rover 200, Ford Cortina, Vauxhall Cavalier and Vauxhall Vectra, before cruise control made it as far main stream cars.
  26. Make/Model/Trim specific. I was referring specifically to the Dacia Spring Expression/Extreme
  27. Red for the emergency fire and rescue staff that just need a car. Blue for police / CID etc that just need a car. Green for On Call Doctors / NHS, district nurses etc. White with some Stick on Signs if needs must. Just as suitable as many of the Basic cars with Steel Wheels and hub caps removed that workers have had provided for decades. Just a pity there is not a built in Britain equivalent but that might come yet.
  28. anything other than the base polar white is a £650 option ;o) Stonewash Blue Lightening Grey Baby Poo Brown Safari Beige Khaki
  29. France has been doing subsidies for low earners to their credit but the scheme was oversubscribed and quickly exhausted. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/economy/article/2023/07/13/an-electric-car-for-100-a-month-the-government-is-still-trying-to-make-it-work_6051261_19.html Not sure the name translates ie Zity. It is needed for those doing community nursing, mid wives etc where 45p a mile for the first 10k miles just does not cut it any more.
  30. I used to prefer manual, the driving engagement and feel of totally in control of the machine. But then I started encountering more and more traffic jams, constant gear changes becomes tiring rather than rewarding. The final straw was when I moved to Greater London. I've owned all types of autos, Merc slushbox, VAG DSG, Fiat automated manual and rented BMW ZF autos. Apart from the automated manual, all are very nice for lazy driving when in traffic. But none of them have same driving engagement, when pushed in back roads, always feels like in the wrong year. I personally think EV gives back the driving engagement feel, direct control of machine. It is always in the right gear, it is responsive when needed but also can handle traffic jam without feeling like done a leg day at the gym only on my left leg.
  31. Hi Berisford Got my payment last week. Contact the team on [email protected] They were very helpful
  32. I've had a few automatics/DSGs and I have to say I prefer them, especially with 2ndhand cars as they are don't tend to get ragged about unlike manuals.
  33. Likewise, which is probably why a slushbox, PDK or CVT doesn't appeal any more than a Scalextric car.
  34. I spent the first 2 or 3 minutes having a pointless AI interaction that for all intents and purposes amounted to ‘tea or coffee, sir’ - ‘you must choose one or the other, try again please’. Instead of implementing all this AI malarkey - how about we fix the naturally stupid ones at head office that think having AI answer the phone is going to impress customers?

I got 3 month warranty just phoned garage so got to take it over tomorrow
  36. Early days. No need to get one yet is there? Or ever! Used prices will continue to drop as many will not be touching them with someones else barge pole. Lower miles 3,s & S,s will be available cheaper as private sales if dealers are not wanting to take them in. Plenty going to be available in the next year or 3. Personally i would not want to be having one.
  37. If the little black circles are there, then yes, assuming you have the original MIB system in the car, you should be able to switch the sensors on/off as appropriate. Its should be called Rear Park Assist. The best way to test it; ignition on, engine off, select reverse. if you wonder behind the car, you should hear bleeps coming from the rear car speakers. Failing that, make sure you don't have any errors on the car (e.g. the sensors have failed/been disconnected).
  38. This will probably be a master or slave cylinder failing internally. Unless you've had a catastrophic failure of the release thrust baring, it is unlikely to be a gearbox out job. However, if it is, then please replace the clutch and release baring whilst you are there!
  39. something oft overlooked is the impact of Zero Emissions on Motorcycles. https://lordslibrary.parliament.uk/mopeds-motorcycles-and-the-powered-light-vehicle-industry/ https://www.britishmotorcyclists.co.uk/nmc-decarbonisation-response/
  40. Hello, welcome to the forum. The zip ties on the wheel covers were a common tip to prevent them being lost. A few scuffs and gouges on the covers aren't too much to worry about provided the rims themselves are undamaged.
  41. Why guess when the information is readily available to you in the Owner's Manual, - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models ETA: and don't be using your phone whilst you were driving or put out photos on public platforms suggesting you were - I'm sure your passenger took that photo which your reverse dashcam will confirm. 🫠

After a few years with no skoda I am back just picked up a 07 plate 1.9 fabia estate, its quite tidy 120k on the clock ,
  43. What should happen is that Skoda Assist should arrange a Hire Car until your warranty repair is arranged and carried out. Read your warranty, and ask the Dealer Principal at the Dealership why the staff have treated your Warranty Issue this way and not arranged a vehicle. SKODA_Warranty_Terms_July_2023.pdf If Skoda Customer Services are being useless be sure to ask to communicate with an Executive Team Member and not some call handler.
  44. I have lots of easy charging, some free charging and some errors where I get free charging by accident of the suppliers. But this is in Scotland and in places that are often not well known and I am not telling everyone about. Charge Place Scotland and the councils they own chargers is really the issue. And who most of the 32 councils had their maintenance contracts with, SWARCO. Separate from the Division running CPS. Then the old chargers council have and the hopeless response to getting them repaired. There are councils with SWARCO having a love in like Dundee. There are councils with others doing the maintenance and prompt repairs. Thank goodness though for Commercial chargers now and over 50 kW units. And near facilities. There are areas that are hopeless though like Royal Deeside and the southern Cairgorms. Tourist routes. PS. Heading to the Highlands so next stop Blairgowrie where charging not an issue. Then north into the hills the Rapids can be so the MINI is fine. Just get on the AC chargers which are reliable or if needs must a 3 pin socket.. once up to Deeside and the Cairgorms it lots of downhills to get to charging.
  45. If it returns but slowly it could be a partial blockage in the return restrictor of the bleed block AKA clutch peak torque limiter but I would expect that to be constant, bleeding may not expel the particle but replacement is very cheap and easy, removing the guts even cheaper and then you get a car that does what you command it to do via the controls rather than its own thing. With the daft thing operational (mine currently is) I dare not make a quick exit across a junction using anything but a light throttle for fear of unpredicatbla end uncontrollable clutch slip. Spray grease to the clutch pedal control loading cam actuator will aid the pedal return and also give you some assistance on the way down, it works after about 60% travel in both directions. Anything like that is worth a try in the hope of avoiding what might be the inevitable gearbox out job.
  46. Just back from holiday and car cleaned this morning so adding a couple more of mine as have now added mud guards and spacers. Love the new stance, the spacers make such a difference. 💙
  47. @SpeedIsYourFriend Resetting the TPMS requires the car to be stationary ignition on. Always worth reading the Owners Manual. ? What does tyre pressures being fine mean? When where they last set at whatever pressure when cold, was the cold then the same as cold now in the summer? The warnings come as a different tyre circumference shows from the last time set. That can happen with a wheel sitting in the sun and getting hotter, or a brake binding or a bearing overheating. Basic stuff really. Then low batteries can cause warnings for whatever and when ever.
  48. Picked up mine this week, moving from a 2014 Octavia VRS. 72 plate Sportline TSI with panoramic roof, DCC (can't tell what that actually does) and funky black wheels. No rear parking camera so that's getting fitted next week.
  49. OK, been there, done that now. The engine swap was straightforward, the DSG didn't pose any additional problems except that the spigot bearing had broken and it was quite difficult to remove the old one. Been driving the car about a month and no issues. The purchase price of the car, secondhand engine, service kit and cam belt kit add up to a total of about 50% of what We Buy Any Car have offered for the car.
