  1. Said goodbye to my vRS estate after 14 years and 240.000 nearly trouble-free miles. Just the small matter of having to purchase a new engine just outside the warranty period means I will never buy another VAG car. In the end though it was the DSG gearbox that failed and the heater had stopped working ages ago. On the whole a cracking car but a massive let-down from VAG and the dealer (Ridgeway). Next car is a little faster but another sleeper just like the vRS was. Thanks to all who contributed their considerable knowledge on this forum.

  3. I did say that I found the temperature surprising but that's what it will have been. Read my previous comments regarding building glazing and magnifying glasses. I will rely on common sense and my knowledge of materials science rather than swallow your version of "The real truth" As your parts are now irreparably damaged why dont you heat some samples of them in an oven to find out "the real truth"? Where do you get your claim that VAG saved $22 per vehicle? A cheaper supplier does not mean that they used cheaper plastics to manufacture the part, the melting point of a specified thermosplastic, (and VAG will have specified exactly what plastic it should be,) does not vary with the price paid for said plastic. I think you are just having a public tantrum and saying "this should not happen" and I agree with you, but the fault is not with VAG, their vehicles can be left for a week at a time unshaded in the Sahara desert, the fault is with the architects.
  4. If that is while the temperature gauge is indicating high temperature, it will be the cause of overheating while stationary, particularly while undergoing a DPF regen. You previously said that the fan does run when you switch off engine during regen, so I'd suggest checking the coolant fan thermo-switch.
  5. @zebthecat - shot in the dark as it's a little way from you, but I highly recommend QS Tuning in Haywards Heath that I use for all my RS needs. Kim (he/him) there is awesome, and will definitely provide good information around what they may be able to do to support you in a rebuild, or - if not - I'm sure he will be able to recommend good companies or people who can help you with it. QST are long-term VAG specialists and part of the larger custom / engineering network, so I'm sure they know of a few people if they can't do it themselves. Best of luck with it too! 🤞
  6. Hi Rheumy. Used to be Velocity before it ceased publication but mainly The Folder that is now A2B. But my professional career included a substantial chunk of sustainable transport work and that brought me into contact with a lot of cyclists and later e-cyclists. (My team introduced early lead-acid batteries e-bikes as pool bikes into Portsmouth City Council over 20 years ago). A close neighbour operated his business successfully with a cargo bike and there was the Tesco experiment with bike hods (trailers customers could borrow) at its Chichester store which was well received as a high quality cycle route passes close by the store entrance. As regards "Unlikely to keep you warm and dry if the weather is poor!" the OP says "I have wellies, fluorescent jacket, hard hat, laptop, paperwork to carry daily" which to me is someone that's not going to be too worried about a bit of weather. And wearing the flourescent jacket means one less thing to carry and would make the OP very visible and keep the wind and wet out, which is why you see a lot of utility cyclists wearing them. Cycle lights are so good these days that riding at night isn't the problem it used to be. A load carrying e-bike isn't going to be for everyone, probably not most people, but as solution to the problem being posed it was worth considering and, in the context of possibly having to replace or buy another car, probably cost effective.

  8. It was a shame they got rid of the older style slave cylinder, sure was an wasy job to change one of those in comparison.
  9. The clutch and brake hydraulics are a common reservoir. It is a simple case of opening the bleed nipple. If they think it is difficult go and talk to someone else, Their comment suggests a lack of competence. I changed both when I had my Mk 11.

  12. Well if you dont have any records about the last service(s) then it's better to do at least the oil change. Better to be safe than sorry, an oil change does not cost that much. The service calculation shown on your infontaiment can be re-set multiple ways, including just pressing the trip button correct way, so without knowing when or who has done it last time the numbers on infontaiment can not be trusted.

Mk3.FL 280ps AWD i replaced to Bilsteins without waiting warranty ending (details in my signature) another source of rattle was power steering , which were replaced on 21, 45 and 26 kKm for 17" rims i recommending 225/55 OEM Pirellis P7 were loudest i have ever had
  15. & with Euro 5 1.6 TDI CR VW Group still had not done much to give owners trust with the Cam Belts and tensioners or water pumps. They also introduced the defeat devices and then had to do the Voluntary Recalls and have engine management updates and a flow device fitted where owners agreed to or even where they did not. That added an extra worry as to how the engine would last or behave. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-campaigns
  16. Hi Guys and Girls, Hope you are all well. Just wanted to reach out to the forum to see if anyone else has come across this and to make owners aware. I own a 2016 Skoda Octavia RS 162 Wagon that has been meticulously looked after. 120,000KM with no oil leaks or water leaks. Waterpump and thermostat housing have been changed twice, once at 56k km under warranty and another at (March 2024) 105,000km out of warranty. Start of November 2024, My car suffered a complete engine power loss (Loss of Ignition power). Taken to the dealer and it was determined that the DSG Coolant shut off valve (5Q0906457K) and Heater Coolant shut off valve (4H0121671D) have failed internally and began to leak coolant into the plug. This coolant migration has traveled along the engine wiring loom to the main connector causing the pins to corrode. As a result, I am now up for a (worse case scenario) $17,200AUD repair bill or (Best case scenario) $7,500AUD. Depending on how bad the main connector plug has corroded into the Main body wiring harness and if the ECU is still ok. This appears to be a well documented issue with VAG cars of that have the same part numbers, with Audi North America issuing a Technical Service Bulletin - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2015/SB-10058574-8951.pdf And Ross Tech publishing a repair guide - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/P1888 Now mind you, no engine light has ever come up to warn me of any possible short or failure of the solenoids. Here's a video of the diagnostic carried out by the Skoda Technician on my Car: Other VAG owners on forums suffering from the same issue - VWvortex: https://www.vwvortex.com/search/2816935/?q=Coolant+shut+off&o=relevance Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/aitqg2/coolant_shutoff_valve_failure_p1889_n82_valve/ VWROC: https://www.google.com/search?q=VW+P1888+site.vwroc.com BriSkoda: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/517227-2017-skoda-kodiaq-coolant-leak-through-wiring-harness-to-ecu/ Audiworld - https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-c7-platform-discussion-194/coolant-mechatronic-tsc-connectors-2969953/ Audiworld - https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-s8-d4-platform-discussion-190/coolant-leak-through-wiring-harness-2862459/page5/ Hope this helps others out there. 17. I think if I was in this unfortunate situation I'd look at buying another car and selling the one with the knackered engine for spares/repair and let someone else do the lottery with a replacement engine. It could even work out cheaper in the long run if the engine replacement went badly. If I was going to get the engine replaced I'd be looking to get one from the most reputable supplier you can find, trying to verify the history of it and paying on a credit card.
  18. Finally managed to get the areaview calibrated! Now to just find the correct dataset to remove the black box from around the car. Sadly I can only find Tiguan and Passat datasets. Would help if someone had a VIN of a superb with factory fitted areaview.
  19. All cars have a unique 17 character identity code – their Vehicle Identification Number or VIN. For Karoqs this is displayed at the bottom lefthand corner of the windscreen, on a sticker at the base of the middle body pillar, and stamped into the righthand suspension turret under the bonnet. It takes the form: TMB LJ7 NU 7J5 012345 and can be decoded as follows: The first 3 characters are TMB for Škoda cars. The 4th character tells you the chassis type: J = left-hand drive FWD, K = right-hand drive FWD, L = left-hand drive 4x4 and M = right-hand drive 4x4. The 5th character tells you the engine: E = 2.0 TSI 190PS, G = 1.6 TDI 115PS, J = 2.0 TDI 150PS, M = 2.0 TDI 190 PS, P = 1.0 TSI 115PS, R = 1.5 TSI 150PS. (Anyone know the code for the 2.0 TDI 115PS engine or Russian 1.6 MPI engines?) The 6th character tells you how many airbags the car has: 2 = 2 front airbags, 4 = 2 front and 2 side airbags, 5 = 2 fronts + 2 sides + 1 knee airbag, 6 = 2 front airbags + 2 sides + 2 heads, 7 = 2 front airbags + 2 sides + 2 heads + 1 knee airbag, 8 = 2 front airbags + 4 sides + 2 heads, 9 = 2 front bags + 4 sides + 2 heads + 1 knee airbag. The 7th and 8th character tell you the vehicle model: NU = the Karoq (2017 on). The 9th character is a check digit to validate the code. The 10th character tells you the car's model year: J = MY2018 (ie manufactured between summer 2017 and summer 2018, K = MY2019 (ie manufactured between summer 2018 and summer 2019, L = MY2020 (ie manufactured between summer 2019 and summer 2020, M = MY2021 (ie manufactured between summer 2020 and summer 2021. The 11th character tells you where your car was built: 0 to 4 = Mladá Boleslav, Czechia; 5 = Kvasiny, Czechia; 7 or 8 = Vrchlabi, Czechia; B = Solomonovo, Ukraine; H = Nizhny Novgorod, Russia; J = Osnabruck, Germany; K = Kaluga, Russia; N = Mladá Boleslav, Czechia. Then finally the 12th to 17th numbers are the unique production number for that production line and year. If anyone has a character in their VIN not listed above, please give me the details so I can update this guide. Thanks Chris

  21. Can anyone help please. I have a 2012 Octavia and when I first had the car the radio display showed the station and the name of the song currently playing on the radio. Now I just have this standard display, is there a setting I’ve pressed by accident, any help appreciated. Don’t think it’s DAB as only fm and am options are offered
  22. Posting this here in case it helps anyone in the future. I have a 93,000 mile, 2014 Octavia 1.4TSI estate. I've owned it since it was 9 months only. Until very recently, it was running on the original battery (assuming it hadn't been changed in the 9 months before I had it...) The stop-start system had become quite sporadic in its operation. The display normally said "Power Consumption Too High". Then, seemingly completely unrelated, I started getting warnings about failures in the rear number plate bulbs. There was nothing wrong with the bulbs, and tapping the lights and/or opening/shutting the tailgate often "fixed" the problem - suggesting a dodgy connection somewhere. The, one morning I got a "battery low warning" flash up on starting the vehicle. I completed a 45 min drive, left the car for ~4 hours, then drove back again 45 minutes. On locking the car, the mirrors did not fold in. I thus booked in for a new battery the next day. On trying to start it the next day, the battery was completely flat. I got it jump-started, and the battery replaced. Since then, I have not had a single warning about the number plate bulb lights. They have worked flawlessly. Stop-start has also been far more available. If you're still reading... If your Octavia ever says "battery low" - it really means it. You may only have one start left before it dies... Consistent "Power Consumption too High" messages explaining why stop-start is unavailable are a much better indicator of a failing battery in my experience. I can only assume that I have a slightly high-resistance connection somewhere in the circuit to the number plate bulbs. If the overall system voltage was a little low before the battery change, would that explain why my error messages and non-working lights have now decided to fix themselves?
  23. Get used to looking at the dash, if it's all lit up, the car is switched on. 😀😀👍👍
  24. It is an easy mistake to make if the engine has stopped due to start/stop, but it will not restart automatically if you open the drivers door regardless of the key. If you are getting out and leaving the car with the engine actually running you need to get hearing aids fast!
  25. Emden to Immingham is common. Looking for one ( your ) car to load from their car park in Emden can take some time. 😉 Look here and count the cars you can see. 28. Welcome the forums & your new, to you, VRS. When I read your post I was surprised it didn't have blindspot detection or traffic sign recognition (part of the travel assist bundle) so had a look at the .pdf brochure I have, dated 12/20. For the VRS both of those were options - so it seems you car is 'normal' for the year. If you're keen on adding them, then I'm sure it can be done for a fee - the guys at @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits (AIUI, they're a site sponsor) would be best able to comment. I am in no way affiliated with them, but am aware of some of their services.
  29. Hi Breezy_Pete, Thanks very much for your time and effort in order to identify my Skoda superb’s (3v5) Glow plug with pressure sensor? i really appreciate it and once again I do thank you.
  30. And what a brilliantly done video that is (a sequence of annotated still pictures really, and all the better for it). I'd have to recommend minimal or zero audio volume though.
  31. Good work, and thanks for adding the photos and video.

  33. Hi J.R, I am not trying to disable any safety critical features. Considering this is an 08 Vehicle, TPMS is an optional extra, I am simply asking if I can "uninstall" this feature, as currently it is more grief than it is worth. ABS and ESP all seem to be working fine and have given no indication otherwise. I am getting no fault code referencing a wheel speed sensor, how do I go about diagnosing which one has failed? Thanks.
  34. ? What have you done since getting the car, 2,800 miles? ? Do you want the car on a fixed service regime of 9,400miles / 12 months and to service it a year from the Service if it was done correctly before you got the car? Get that history on paper & have them email it now. Forget the term Inspection, that should have been set as at the time of the Oil Service. So either Fixed Regime 9,400 miles / 372 days, or if on Variable / Flexible the Oil & Inspection Service might be at 18,000 / 20,000 miles / 24 months. So allowing that the Tech / Fitter maybe never reset the Service Indicator correctly or set it you best check with a Skoda Dealer what the Online Service Records show as done and put on the system.
  35. This is the one I got. Worked a treat and for £50-00 it saved me a lot of hassle. Says it will support 500kg. Hopefully wont be using it mucch but its brilliant for changing engine support brackets etcc.
  36. The important question to me is why are Skoda still selling these cars when they KNOW they are faulty?
  37. Hi all. This is my third Superb and took delivery 10 days ago. SE L hatch. Generally an improvement almost everywhere on previous two versions, except for all these errors. Thank you for letting me read all the way back to when this started. Raised a complaint with Skoda but I have a short time left to reject the car which I think I am going to do. This puts me in a situation I didn't want but better than spending ££££ on something that might or might not be fixed soon
  38. stupid side stickers are gone now too. Full Rieger front and rear, upper spoiler the Reiger carbon effect looks cheap and gash. This was dipped using a 3D material which gives a depth to the weave.
  39. ^^^ Total nonsense. What happened to your car happened, claim off your insurance and tell them your theory. They as in VW Group never went out and found a cheaper material to manufacture the parts than used for the other Sister Brands or models. VW Group do penny / cent pinch where ever they can.
  40. Yes you can. My father's phone has a leather flip cover which prevents it from charging wirelessly and he places it there while driving without any problem such as overheating.
  41. mine too, so far....
  42. @VioMee I’ve moved your post. The title and content was fine. Just a better place for it. bit like trying to push a door with pull on it, we all do it at least once. So to is with a forum when there are a lot of places it could be. I have toyed with hiding this area till folk have had a few more posts. Very, very occasionally, although struggling to recall one, someone has a forum question as their first post. anyhow, now you’ve got an idea the door is pull, ie there is a superb IV forum, you’re away to the races. I know iv and iv are swappable terms, the romans got there first, so iv is mk4 not specific to the iv badged cars. phew, maybe i try the door push one more time, nope definitely pull, good all safety checks done here. have a great day.
  43. Think I have found why trim will not come away , possibly due to a recessed screw inside dash side cover. Found a video detailing removal of dash on Fabia 2 and the clue was there. Also see my photo with hidden screw only just visible behind plastic lug.. So correct relay should arrive soon and hopfully be able to install .

You could get 2% better fuel consumption! But the thing they don't tell you is the increased engine wear. Read this for my VW UP:- VW 504 / VW 507 is an option to fit with this engine but the car under bonnet sticker did show different on mine. I replaced my under bonnet oil sticker with one that had VW 504 / VW 507 on it. VW 508 / VW 509 is a 0W-20 C5 oil and VW 504 / VW 507 is a 5W-30 C3 oil. There are two main differences between C5 and C3. In red below 1: C5 has a lower viscosity than C3. 2: C5 has a lower HTHS rating than C3 which increases the engine wear. HTHS is the abbreviation for “High Temperature High Shear”. See below. 'ACEA C5 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil with Mid SAPS-Level, for further improved Fuel Economy, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended Drain Intervals in Vehicles with all Types of modern Aftertreatment Systems and High Performance Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines that are designed to be capable and OEM-approved for use of Low Viscosity Oils with a minimum HTHS Viscosity of 2.6 mPa*s.' Car manufactures are tending to use a lower viscosity oil to improve fuel consumption. But the improvement between C5 and C3 is listed as only 2% better. I check fuel consumption so will notice any difference. Since the biggest controller of fuel economy is 'the nut fitted between the steering wheel and the drivers seat' I tend to sort that out first. 'ACEA C3 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil with Mid SAPS-Level, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended Drain Intervals in Vehicles with all Types of modern Aftertreatment Systems and High Performance Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines that are designed to be capable of using Oils with a minimum HTHS Viscosity of 3.5 mPa*s.' HTHS viscosity The HTHS value is a measure of the viscosity of an engine oil under demanding conditions. Defined limit values ensure that even with high-performance engines, the engine oils can maintain a tear-resistant lubricating film in the bearing area at high temperatures and high speeds (shear stability). The unit for measuring HTHS is mPas (millipascal second). If the HTHS value is above 3.5 mPas, the HTHS viscosity is to be classified as normal. An HTHS value below 3.5 mPas is referred to as a reduced HTHS viscosity. 'SAPS stands for sulfated ash, phosphorus, and sulfur.' You need a MID/LOW SAPS oil with an engine with any exhaust emission controls. So to sum up: A lubricant with low HTHS viscosity improves fuel efficiency. A lubricant with high HTHS viscosity offers better protection for engine parts. I keep my cars long term so I want long term engine protection first. Thanks. AG Falco
  45. The breeze wasn't my friend this morning in the Hope Valley........ A2 Pacific Blue Peter blasts through Edale with it's first revenue earning train in approx. 22 years after an extensive overhaul.
  46. I dont know the rules in the UK in detail but in Finland these assist warnings wont cause any MOT fails or anything else. In the deep of winter our cars are covered in snow and ice and ofcourse then the camera's and sensors dont work. I had this on my MK3 and fully expect on my MK4 in the next months. Anyways they are bloody annoying so i turn them off anyways every time drive. However i do agree it has taken them a long time to fix it (not only for the superb but for all cars like the Kodiaq, passat etc. There are two things they need to do: 1. Acknowledge the problem - They have with the TPI (most if not all dealers are usless and dont know about, including mine, but i told him about it) 2. Give a fix indication timeline - This is where they have failed. I work in IT myself and know timelines are indicative but give updates to the people and extend if needed. But just communicate

All season tyres fitted now. (and yes, the car is filthy - will be doing something abut that this weekend!)
  48. ACC is very good and I would say well worth it if you do many longer runs
  49. My OCD got the better of me... Once a Fabia Mk 4's glove-box has been fully lowered and the front cover of the cabin-filter's housing has become accessible, removing the front cover is indeed very easy. As shown in the following image, the top edge of the cover has two 'tabs' (arrowed in green). Pressing a tab firmly downwards while pulling the adjacent projection (with a hole in it) towards you will result in a click and that end of the cover's top edge will become free. When both tabs have been treated in this way, the top edge of the cover can be pulled towards you and will then release from the three 'hinges' at its lower edge. Refitting just involves relocating the cover on the 'hinges' and pushing its top edge away from you so that the two tabs click properly in place. Rather surprisingly (to me), my Fabia's cabin-filter does not carry a VW or Skoda marking. The filter is made (in France) by Valeo and the data on its front are shown on the photo below. (The arrow should point downwards.)
