  1. I think if I'd thought of looking specifically for such a leak, I would've been able to see it via camera phone pics. I hadn't noticed any obvious wetness or staining below the pump, although some was evident looking from above once the old pump was out of the way. Finished for the day with new kit all on, and torqued up, with the 2 rotations of crank completed happily, both locking tools reinsertable afterwards. First attempt at getting new belt on went wrong somehow; luckily it was obviously wrong cos the three screws in the cam pulley were right at one end of their slots, and the tensioner had seemed too easy to set. Thanks for the interest and support everyone. Won't get back to it until Friday now, to put enough back on to try running it, then everything else, if it works.
  2. Thanks to those of you who said 'change it all'. WP appears to have been on the way out.
  3. CJX is EA888 Gen 3. DNU & DNF are EA888 Gen 4. Both DNU & DNF have no MPI (multi point injection) Both of them pair with 7sp DQ381 DSG, and have GPF. While CJX, has both direct injection and mpi, pairs with 6sp DQ250 DSG, and works without GPF.

  5. There are a lot of pros and cons for each. I do prefer the new car because it is faster and more economical, but it does have its irritations. The satnav is particularly bad, taking ages to boot up and it thinks everywhere in the uk is in Deutschland. But as I said, I use Waze with apple carplay so actually it doesn’t matter. Things that are better with the 2023 model: More torque and 7 speed box Much better motorway economy throttle mapping is better DSG sports mode is less rev-happy led matrix headlights are great ventilated seats Auxiliary electric heater (car warms up really quickly in winter) heated steering wheel washer for the reversing camera ACC stays armed longer in start/stop traffic warning lights for blind spot monitoring better placed and brighter Remote locking/unlocking via the app, honk and flash to find your car etc (but you have to pay to subscribe) Virtual cockpit is nice but as you say, by no means essential. Things that are worse with the 2023 model: DSG very reluctant to change down eg exiting bends drive mode defaults to normal on each start Satnav is poor Apple carplay volume is much lower than radio volume No knobs on the infotainment screen (old one had mechanical volume and select/zoom knobs) So overall I prefer the new one, it is just a bit spoilt by the DSG mapping. And L&K for both really makes them “Grand Tourers”. As far as “full service history” is concerned, there really isn’t a lot to service that is important, beyond engine oil and filter - and this is the easiest car to self-service I’ve ever owned, certainly to change the engine oil anyway. Haldex oil at 3 years and DSG oil at 40k miles. DQ381 DSG is nominally 80k miles but I think I will do mine sooner.
  6. 24.10 would be the latest update for your car. So you are done. I find the update portal gives me, at most, 2 updates a year, with the second released around autumn. They stagger the releases based on VINs - my database shows 24-6 which I loaded in November.

    1. yes, white, but less bright if compare to Ali 2. i have no idea, in theory yes
  9. The rear bump stops are always decomposed in my experience by the time the dampers need replacing, usually the units will have already figuratively dropped their skirts so its clear that the parts will be needed. Someone who has not done them before will find out on disassembly that they should have ordered them, if they are in a rush to get the car out or off of the ramp they are going to refit the old ones which will result in crashing suspension and rubbing or dropped dust covers, I've owned a couple of vehicles where previous bodging garages had simply left both the decomposed bump stops and the damper covers off, I can see their warped logic now, you may not have noticed the absence.
  10. Dust cover incorrectly fitted to the bump stops, or bump stops deteriorated enough to allow the dust cover to rub? Incorrect dust covers for the new shocks? Faulty or bent shock? Gaz
  11. Engines good. DQ381,s more and more being flagged as 'The Weakest link'. It really is buyer beware. Be sure if a warranty, a valid one. Too many getting landed now with silly bills.
  12. The car park was jam packed full as something on in the Big Top in the Athletics Arena. The cars plugged in and not charging might well have drivers and passengers coming back and expecting the car fully charged for heading home. This is the issue at many park and rides. Even the AC chargers cutting out and no charge as the driver expected. Phone Apps a necessity to check cars level. Not that that is any use when a train, plane, bus journey away. Just a warning that you are going to have to get charging when back at the car. Somewhere.
  13. it's timeless i love mine , Merry Christmas from the uk btw
  14. I bought a 12month old SEL Karoq 1.5 DSL without a test drive (I had test driven one about a year ago and liked it, so bought this one on spec). Anyway, the day after picking up my new car, I had to drive to West Byfleet to see my son, a journey of approx 220miles. Aat the end of that journey my partner's back and my back ached so much we couldn't believe it - worst seat I have ever had in many, many cars over 45 years of driving. The return journey home was even worse! Apart from that, I loved everything else about the car, but as I drive a lot for work, I knew I wouldn't be able to compromise on my comfort, especially as I am now 63! It was on the return journey that I recalled that the Karoq I had test driven a year ago was a Sportline, not an SEL. Anyway, a couple of days later I went back to the Skoda dealer and rejected the SEL using their 7day return guarantee. Luckily, they were extremely cooperative about this and gave me a couple of options to consider. The next day I took a brand new Karoq Sportline for an extended test drive and could tell almost immediately that the seats were chalk and cheese compared with the SEL seats - infinitely better. Back as the dealers, the manager found me an 18month old Sportline with very low mileage and I was able to exchange cars with no upfront costs and ended up paying only £5 more per month for a car with not only way better seats but a way better spec. than the SEL! Roll on to approx. 3,000miles later I can confirm that the Sportline seats are amazingly comfortable and supportive. Shout out to D. M. Keith, Hull, who have put my faith back in car dealerships too!
  15. In other news today, The Good Law Project have twice this year taken the UK Government to the supreme court over their Net-Zero and won. On both occasions the Government strategy has been ruled unlawful, so what now?
  16. Nah, 'They all look like that sir' It's got ample time left in it 👍 - minutes at least!
  17. I agree but I have been assured the faults are in the warning lights not in the systems, even though a light says an "assist" is not working, it will be. In July, soon after the car had become available in the UK, no one knew if it was the lights or the systems that were at fault. My dealer says of 14 superbs supplied 11 have these warning light faults. A Very Happy Christmas to you as well

interesting. I ordered my Sportline end of September - will check if I have it when I get home
  19. Still holding its good look and line despite 23y (2001y). Pretty impresive on the street, People from the cars, bikes and on sideways are turning heads after her and giving me 👍, no mater of age-young and old, both sexes
  20. I find your post interesting! My 2018 Karoq never had this problem, but my 2022 model suffers intermittent loud squeaks and squawks, probably triggered by reversing, then carries on for a while off and on, but especially when starting to brake. Similar to what has been written above, it starts during certain weather conditions only. I will probably not bother taking it in under warranty - far too many times in the past I have been told by dealerships No Fault Found on various cars I have owned. Sometimes with the problem reappearing on the drive home.
  21. Reuters report........ VW, who some say has failed to grasp the transition to EVs (though ID7 getting many plaudits) may now have a good plan between Management and Workers Council/Unions, hurray. ======================================================================================= VW reaches union deal to cut 35,000 German jobs after gruelling talks Deal sees job cuts and capacity reductions Unions hail deal that will keep factories open Latest round of talks has been ongoing since Monday VW seeks to cut costs as European market shrinks Chancellor, top shareholder welcome agreement HANOVER, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), opens new tab on Friday announced sweeping changes to its German operations, including more than 35,000 future job cuts and sharp capacity reductions in a last-gasp deal between Europe's top carmaker and unions to avert mass strikes. Union leaders hailed the agreement as a "Christmas miracle" after 70 hours of gruelling negotiations, the longest in the company's 87-year history. There would be no immediate site closures or layoffs, and VW appeared to have backed away from demanding 10% wage cuts. The deal avoiding costly strikes may also provide relief to investors after months of negotiations. Shares rose 2.4% in extended trade after the deal. They have lost 23% this year . Volkswagen has been in talks with union representatives since September over measures it called necessary for it to compete with cheaper Chinese rivals and handle lacklustre demand in Europe and slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles. Around 100,000 workers have already staged two separate strikes in the past month, the largest in Volkswagen's history, protesting against cost-cutting plans. "With the package of measures that has been agreed, the company has set a decisive course for its future in terms of costs, capacities and structures," Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said in a statement. "We are now back in a position to successfully shape our own destiny."
  22. Sorry, earlier I said the DNUA was 6 speed but of course it’s 7 speed. Perhaps there is a bit of confusion about what you mean by “strongest” engine. I took it to mean “most robust”, but perhaps you mean “with the most power”? Anyway all the engines are very good. Well, I have owned the CJXA and the DNF and they are both very good. For me it is not just about the engine, it is about the whole car. The 2016 model had a sluggish throttle response, but that was easily fixed with a pedal box. The throttle response on the DNF is better and doesn’t really need a pedal box, but the gearbox mapping is very sluggish which rather spoils the drive. Not so easy to fix - a gearbox remap would be needed. Or of course to drive it in manual mode. But then the 7 speed is much more economical on the motorway, due to lower rpm. Both my cars were L&K with DCC. The old one remembered the drive mode setting, I used “custom” to keep everything normal except DCC which was Sport. The new car reverts to “Normal” so I have to make 3 presses on the button to set “Custom” after every start, which is annoying. New car has heated steering wheel - great. But satnav is worse (I use Waze anyway). Kessy on all 4 doors. Virtual cockpit is nice. Lane assist on new one is terrible unless you have Travel Assist. Predictive ACC is a waste of time. New car has coasting in Normal drive mode, which I dislike. It can easily be turned off with VCDS fortunately.
  23. The core of all 3 engines is the same I think, so I doubt there is any fundamental difference in reliability. The main difference in performance results from the different gearbox on the DNFE - 7 speed with 400nm limit, vs 6 speed with 350nm limit for the earlier ones. So although the max rpm power outputs are much the same, the mid-range on the later car is quite a bit better. This and the 7speed box gives 0.5 second better 0-100kph time, which is a big difference. Downsides of the latest model is that the DSG mapping makes it very reluctant to change down until you really push the pedal, and then it is off like a shot. And the reliability of the DQ381 gearbox seems more questionable than for the DQ250 of the earlier models.
  24. Excellent choice. I have that too. Cracker of an engine, smooth gear changes and great mpg
  25. Ill pitch in then. Its a race blue Phev with all options except for leather.
  26. Hello @scotthugh3s, With regards to the keyless entry issue where the touch handles are no longer working in wet weather (rain, snow flaxes, fog , after car wash ...) you can consult the below DYI guide: https://www.drive2.ru/l/662957408988970792/ Cheers

  28. Yep. MY24 are locked down across VAG. VCDS no longer works and not even dealers have access apparently. One guy on the caravan forums is trying to reject a MY24 Q5 as no one can program an aftermarket towbar. These are the regulations that are causing the issues with software updates and coding. From the Skoda website. Vehicles with UNECE PR Code NI1,NI7,NI8 and NI9 cannot be coded at the current status. What is UNECE? The acronym UNECE is often heard in connection with car cybersecurity. It refers to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. This body has a significant influence on international standards in transport security, and in recent years the UNECE has issued two regulations relating to automotive cybersecurity that all manufacturers have to comply with. The CSMS (Cyber Security Management System) regulation requires manufacturers to ensure that cars are protected from cyber attacks and software hacking. The SUMS (Software Update Management System) regulation focuses on software updates and makes it mandatory to ensure and document cars’ compliance with the homologation regulations even after software updates. UN regulation R155 requires certification of a secure cybersecurity system (CS). It is a mandatory requirement for new vehicle type approvals in all countries adopting the UNECE guidelines. Currently all EU countries, Japan and Korea . R155 is very broad reach, because it incorporates every aspect of the vehicle and its components for the life of the vehicles. So all OEM suppliers are bound by it as well. UN regulation R156 requires certification of a secure software update system (SU), including (not least) OTA updates. Also mandatory

Thanks for replies I’ll ask the motor comp about the DDS and look on the forums for more info
  30. Given that they'll have to be coded in, it'd be reasonable to think they can also be coded out. Find someone with VCDS and knows how to use it.

  32. I've been keeping santa busy as well: I'm not looking forward to painting these...
  33. front assist saved me from rear ending a car when driving home from the airport at 3am, via a diversion on some back roads, the car in front stopped at a mini round about to give way to nobody. I was tired and a it was a bit foggy and would have hit him without it. i can't be the only one who likes having it?
  34. I just blacked all mine out using PlastiDip. Simply mask off the surrounding body (leave a gap around the badge). Once you've done a couple of coats, it will be thick enough that you can remove the masking and peel off the overspray on the bodywork

  37. You can fit the head and cams and ECU from a BBZ engine to give you 100 BHP. But it's probably easier and cheaper to sell it and buy another Fabia with the 100 BHP engine already fitted.
