  1. A couple of shots from the off road day. Instructor took the shot with me hanging. A couple of others messing about with 1000mm
  2. Hey Fr1nklyn! So, I’ve now solved the issue (with heavy use of google and friends) it was the crankshaft position sensor. It turns out that the engine uses the camshaft position sensor to run until operating temperature, and then switches to the crankshaft sensor. When this happened, the engine would detect the fault and then switch back to the camshaft sensor. After replacing the crankshaft position sensor (Bosch), I’m happy to report that the engine runs fine. How strange! Thank you for your help, though.
  3. If by "gap" you mean what I've marked in green on the image below, that is perfectly normal for the design of front disc-brake caliper commonly fitted to VW Group cars (my 2009 Skoda Roomster has a similar front-brake caliper design) and what you can see through the 'gap' (arrowed in red) is the back of a disk pad and (I believe) an anti-rattle spring. This photo is of a complete front-brake caliper removed from a Skoda Fabia Mk 4 and I've marked the 'gap' in yellow.
  4. First time starting a project thread, bear with me... Heard about this Roomster not too far from me that might be heading for a scrapyard, and decided to try to acquire it. That went well and it came to my place this last weekend. Early 2012, 1.2 TSI, 5sp manual, 158k miles on the clock. This is it, just after being washed. Paintwork is far from pristine, but that's not something I care much about. I'd looked up the spec via the reg plate before seeing pics of the car, so there were one or two nice surprises when I first saw pics, then the car in real life. Factory build sheet suggested no roof rails, nor trailer hitch. Both were in fact fitted, presumably by supplying dealer since this was bought new by the previous owner. Trailer hitch is the detachable type, with 13 pin electrics connector and adaptor for 7-pin electrics. Super handy! Had to swap out the alternator to get it charging and driveable, battery was also factory original and not well at all following loss of charging. OSF tyre had nasty inner shoulder wear, without anything similar being apparent on the other side, so that needs some investigation promptly. Partner told me the high level brakelight is inop. Nearside mirror adjustment isn't happening. May well be a split outer CV boot on OS too, but hard to be sure as the whole engine is rather oily externally, and everything needs a good clean-up to see where any fluids are escaping from. Everything else seems to work, though the handbrake only slightly! Lots more to say, but for now: New battery fitted last night after the external clean. Interior needs a lot of cleaning up; hoping a local youth may be enticed into helping with that, possibly. Engine sounds rather nice and quiet after two seconds of mild rattle from cold-start. Seems to go just fine, but economy not great on journey home. Quite excited to bring it back to full health. 😁 I shall no doubt have many questions.

  6. Made use of revo's summer sale to finally get that stage 1 remap. 190ps tdi 4x4. Who has this engine knows it's lazy and doesn't really do much off boost. The power is there but it manages to be so unexciting at every stage of operation somehow. So, overall consumption is the same. Maybe it's a bit easier to pull into the 50's below 70mph. On boost acceleration hasn't noticeably changed, however, off boost acceleration is where it really shines. There's less need to push the gas until the gearbox downshifts, making slowing down and pushing it seamless, like on roundabouts. Starts in 2'nd a lot easier, pushes in 6'th for an overtake at reasonable pace. It's like the car is a few hundred kg lighter. One thing i've noticed and i'm not sure how to feel about it is that the dpf stays cooler in normal operation. There's more headroom to heat up and passive regen doesn't happen as easy as before. Active regens are also a bit colder and take slightly more. I'd say from 550-670° down to 520-630 now. Of course i have 0-60 times as well (via car scanner). No map, winter 7.5s, exactly to spec Stage 1, summer 25° 6.4s I'll keep an eye out for any quirks as time goes on and report
  7. I bought replacement clip from AliExpress Link The part arrived within 10 days and fits well. Overall, I think this route is less wasteful than buying the overall mounting fitting from Skoda Dealer and discarding all but the clip. Hope this is of use to some others.
  8. @lol-lol The Over Speed limit warning is a funny little noise. I thought it was the Transit Blocks making a croaking noise.
  9. Expecting this sort of range ie 165 miles when just driven when not too concerned with range and in summer. Am in two about the Eco mode. In the Zoe it is restrictive, feels too sluggish in the 60-65 mph zone. Scenic is spot on, just keeps it below indicated 72 mph so good for keeping one's licence. Mini 2024/25 will still do indicated 100 mph even in Eco Mode. Son is really good keeping to,me not so good so I will have to watch it. Hopefully some nice pings when over the speed limit like I have with the Scenic's Google Nav system.
  10. ...and Skoda just don't want to know or admit ever having seen it before. "Book it in for diagnostics" - despite me saying that nothing will show up in it. Out of warranty that's a costly exercise and when they eventually agree to replace the screen then that's over £1000 as far as I know.
  11. I could have written the same post. June July every year, then fine with no interventions until next year.
  12. Thanks @Breezy_Pete I can get the 893E for just under £80 It's the 891F I can't find for love of money. As it's the low pressure pipe I might see if it is salvageable. Both pipes are heavily corroded so was just going to change them as I'm changing the rack. Neither of the pipes are leaking but still I wouldn't trust them without cleaning them up and checking from there. Worse case scenario would finding someone who can fabricate new ones from the old ones. Thanks again.

You also have to change the usb port. Easiest way to avoid all these codings is to add an android auto / carplay box. I did it on a friends class b and it works Great. Something like this https://a.aliexpress.com/_EICSprc
  14. This happened to me too. I had the display restarting while driving, turning itself on and off, pausing and resuming music, and also turning itself on and off while car is locked. I had various theories about the culprit like high temperatures, bluetooth, wifi, android auto... But eventually I dismissed them all. Quite interesting that the first time I had this problem was in July last year and it lasted for few days and resolved itself somehow. I literally did nothing. After that I had zero problems up until June 2025. when it started all over again. I went to the dealer two two times and they updated the fw twice. And this did not help at all. Again, problem eventually solved on its own after about a week or so. I recorded many videos of this crazy display behavior and sent them to the dealer and they said they will try to contact the factory for advice. Never heard from them after that. But fortunately now the problem is gone. Well at least for another year I hope. My guess is that this has something to do with their servers. Something triggers this online. I find it unlikely that displays just somehow starts acting crazy once a year or so and then it just repairs itself... But it's still infuriating that they still have no clue what's causing this after so many owners reported it...
  15. You can adjust it using the scroll wheel on the steering wheel when it is making a navigation announcement. If you do it at any other time it will just be the radio/media that gets adjusted. The display will show a different icon when you are adjusting the navigation volume.
  16. Think it's this diagram actually, all UK systems are TRW, I believe. Obviously the ones labelled rhd, with part numbers starting 6Q2. All unavailable new AFAIK, sadly. https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/ALL/FAB/453/4/423/423050
  17. Mine snapped off too - I had 30 minutes investigating the feasibility of replacing it and concluded the job was not worth the effort………
  18. The parts catalogue entry for a 2007 Fabia mk1 with power steering is HERE. I believe the parts you are seeking are #20 & #24.
  19. I'm back. I've given "likes" for responding whilst not necessary agreeing with any sentiment of any particular posting. I asked the original question as I didn't know and am grateful that forum members took time out to respond. I turned up at the seller's as agreed and took my ruler to measure the PDC. I then politely declined the purchase and advised the seller to included wheel and tyre details in his listing using the information learned from the above postings, so future prospective buyers would be better informed. He thanked me for the advise! The front of my home needed the hedges cutting back. Now I have finally completed that task, I have realised my car can be parked off road. The kerb at the pavement has been lowered and there is a gap in the hedge to enter and exit. I did not realise the front was so big and could probably fit both my wife's Karoq (MK2) and my own car in the space available. What I now think I will do is place the car on axle stands whilst the wheels are being refurbished. I think this will be better as without a garage there would be nowhere to store spare wheels when not in use, something I had not considered earlier. Kev.
  20. Ours is out of sync as it was (allegedly) a VW Group employee car which they kept longer than usual. Those cars, indeed all leased cars, and some privately bought car like our old Tiguan, where they forgot to switch it to fixed interval, are left on the longlife servicing. So ours is shown in the service history the dealer printed out as having an "oil change" service, which is literally that and a few very basic safety checks, at 16mths old. However the dealer is absolutely adamant that they did a variable / longlife service, which has more extensive checks and the pollen filter is changed. When we got the first service in our ownership, at 28mths old, done a year after the previous service, they would only do an oil change service "because it had a full service last time". Then at our second service, at 40 mths old, they did seem to do a fuller service (check sheet was longer, and they changed the pollen filter). However they also wanted me to pay £172 to have the spark plugs changed as the car will hit 4yrs old before its next service. As it's only done 12K miles and I'm hoping All In will cover the spark plugs, I declined - but I expect an argument about that next year, when it should normally be due a major service, but they'll say it had one last time. For balance, I'm also having a nightmare with our Hyundai EV - it does about 15K/yr and it's supposed to be on 2yr/20K service intervals, but both local dealers insist it needs an interim service at 10K. Hyundai have sent about half-a-dozen emails without answering the question about whether it's essential for the warranty or not.
  21. Yes agreed thanks it will be cleaner. I don't know why they added a flimsy spring latch to it.
  22. Thanks for the tips folks, I'll take all on board and hopefully get things sorted. I must admit, I never thought of saying "Navigate to....". Will also remember to start a specific topic thread, rather than my drivelling on different subjects. I must admit, i still have an Atlas as a back up. My theory being, a satnav will tell you where you are going and where you are - but where in relation to the rest of the country? (Mostly when I have been out in the wilds of Exmoor or such places).
  23. I would like to try it too 😊 The program only needs the time to be set before June 30th at startup. Once it's running, you can revert the time to normal and it will continue to function. 👍
  24. When the Skoda dealer does a service they provide a printout of the full service history. Which I suspect comes from what k referred to previously as the master server. Of course once the car is serviced outside the dealership service invoices are the only proof.
  25. That is very similar to what the digi cert shows for my Karoq, mileage is approx 6 weeks out date. About 2 months ago there was an issue with the 'Send Route to Car' feature. If you use the App to plan a route this feature will send the destination/route to the built-in Sat Nav. You could send the route but it never reached the car, many owners had this issue and it wasnt limited to Karoqs. It was clearly a Skoda server iissue not transmitting to the car. It got fixed after about 2 weeks. This Digi Cert issue looks very similar - the data on the Skoda server is not up to date - as proven by mine and @mumpsim examples, it also seems as though new car data is not reaching the server hence why Digi Certs are not being produced. Generally the slave servers used to provide data to Internet and App requests are purely for that purpose, they get regular (hourly/daily/overnight) updates from the master servers. The Digi Cert should have an entry for when the PDI was done. As cn be seen from this extract for my car.
  26. I will see what a 1.5 petrol 5 door is like for comfort rather than a 2.0 Cooper S 3 or 5 door. JCW,s are just too like the new Electric. Hard. I like the clocks as they were pre Heads up. Comfort and finish is perfect.

Just changed the battery on the wife's Octavia. No problems starting but.... Cooling fan cutting in when temp low and aircon not on. Central locking acting up Headlights pulsing on tick over Various other weird things. New battery and all OK.
  28. It's not illegal, but it's not possible. You can't do a sequence light with only one halogen bulb! Oh, and it looks daft too.
  29. @Bap33 if you go with the MK1 SEL trim level you do indeed get LED headlights with the AFS functionality, anything lower and you only get the standard Halogen headlights. I doubt that I'll get a face lift version as the price is still a bit steep for those, looking for a 2018-2019 ish model SEL with FSH and low mileage with the cream leather trim with as many extra toys thrown in for good measure I'm not really bothered with the 4x4 version TBH, I've never had the benefit of having a 4x4 and have never managed to get stuck anywhere yet, that's a bonus of have taught how to drive by a bus driver and also spending a few hours in the bus driving school. This was requirement by the National Bus Company back in the day, even though I was on the engineering team, it just part of the system to get insurance cover in order to drive the buses and coaches on road test at the end of their routine servicing. The TDI150 will be enough, but if anything larger crops up, I'll take it, the extra torque at tick over when driving on ice or snow is most welcome when pulling away from stationary. Skoda-Kodiaq-2017-UK-.pdf
  30. After fitting the standard boot, the split CV boot does save a LOT of time, and your back as these hubs are heavy and take some manhandling to get the driveshaft back in. So in conclusion I can't really give a definite answer on whether to use a split boot or not, just that the quality of the one I used was dubious.

Hey again, Installed and rolling .... Overall a much better feel compared to stock. No more wobbling around like being on a ferry in rough seas. 😂 @MartiniB as you predicted, it's sitting a bit lower in the rear than the front. The TÜV papers mention that the 11-85-016-10-HA should be installed with a thicker spring plate on top when used on a heavier car. Anyone who installed this and noticed a slight raise in the rear?
  33. Have a wee look for the many similar threads. There is a very recent one. They talk rubbish, the recommended tyres / wheels for use with snow chains are smaller. Type Approved sizes can be used.

Just to add my 10p worth. I’ve ran both my previous diesel 4x4 (white one) and my current 272 (4x4) with koni special actives and h&r springs for many many miles and never had an issue. The konis are a great shock and ride is way better then standard sportline spec. Fully loaded still really good ride and my current set have done over 120k miles with no issues
  35. The Born is as far from an Octavia as a Huracan is. The difference between the vRS and the 1.5 is honestly best answered by the similarities - which, really, are the carpets, infotainment, some body panels, wipers and basic chassis. Otherwise, the steering, suspension, brakes, engine, gearbox, design and everything else is a totally different thing. They are designed to serve two totally different purposes. It’s like comparing a 3.0 TDI A6 to an RS6 GT. Sure, they’re the same car, but they’re also just not even in the same universe, let alone the ball park.
  36. I’m pleased to say this has sold to a Briskoda member 😃
  37. wow... people can get pretty hot under the collar while offering help around the place cant they? i think everybody would benefit from refreshing their knowledge of the posting guidelines - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/guidelines If you read it, remember mods can bin posts that serve noone or just seem to be getting personal in tone.. and if people keep pushing those buttons theres member strikes and timeouts that can be applied. disagreements happen, but it doesnt need to lead to name calling and stuff. mods are busy enough keeping the place tidy and functioing to have start watching what people are saying to each other.
  38. I was commenting as 'stupidity personified' appeared to be levelled at me. You quoted what I said, followed by the words stupid and then personified... I appreciate that I may have misinterpreted what you meant regarding revolutions of the wheel, rather than revolutions of the engine, however when it's written as 'more revs faster speed reading', can you really blame me? Besides, I knew exactly what you meant - I was making a point. Regarded your last bit, I agree. The item here, for example, would be much better suited. OE wheels are pretty expensive here too - an 18" spare wheel for a vRS is £300 from Skoda, which is $620 AUD. If it were me in this position, I'd either borrow a set of VAG wheels from a friend, or pick up some 16" steelies. I'm a bit dubious of cheap(er) second hand wheels, but that's just me! That said, maybe OP is limited in where they can travel due to disability, commitment or other factors. Regardless, it's not our position to call someone stupid or appear disparaging and condescending because they ask about doing something. Maybe you didn't mean to come across the way that you did, however that is the way that I read it. BTW - remember it's 2am here, so OP is probably fast asleep dreaming of his newly refurbed wheels 😆
  39. Right. Nice to meet you too, I think? I personally don't go around on the internet calling people I don't know 'stupid', but different strokes for different folks and all that. I'm not sure how things work in Australia, but here in the UK we generally don't let random people drive our vehicles, especially when they're on temporary wheels for a refurb job. I'm reasonably sure most commercial tyres have a speed rating of above 70mph, so insurance would need to take into account the fact OPs car was speeding too. OP also mentioned they were looking for a setup 'at a price I can afford' - god forbid somebody can't afford to get a temporary setup with forged 21" HRE's dressed in 315 section Pilot Sport Cup 2s. Of course fitting commercial tyres and wheels to a car perhaps isn't ideal, but for the use that OP has (spare for a refurb) I suspect it will be absolutely fine. You should never fit passenger wheels and tyres to a commercial vehicle that require load rated items, but as long as the speed rating is taken into consideration, there is no reason why commercial items on a passenger car will cause any significant issues, as long as caution is exercised with the speed rating. Thanks for your sweeping statement. I'm sure OP was looking for exactly what you said - 'it's not as if the correct ones are hard to get'. Clearly, for his budget, they are. That is also not to mention he quite literally said he was just after wheels and that useable tyres were 'a bonus'. Thank you for explaining how a speedometer functions. I should however point out that 'more revs faster speeding', despite being grammatically incorrect, is also factually inaccurate, as I would suspect being at 2,000rpm in 6th is going to result in a larger inaccuracy than being at 6000rpm in 1st. It could also be an older car, with a mechanical or VSS speedo. It's not, but it could be. I think, speaking for myself, the other commenters and OP, we are all aware of this. I think that's everything. I wish I were intelligent enough to call someone stupid when my syntax, grammar and punctuation render my comments virtually unintelligible.
  40. I can't see anything wrong with using commercial rated tyres on a car, with the caveat being you'd want to be under their (presumably low) speed rating. FWIW, if you have 312mm brakes, then commercial 16" wheels might cause some issues with clearances if they are a weird shape/offset.
  41. As you've found the tyre comparison site the following two sites may help you (subject to information being correct, there are errors and omissions in all sources of data and information, even from manufacturers). Obviously the tyres and wheels for sale need visual inspection for how good or not they might be, look for the age of the tyres and their general condition as he size change alone will make some difference to how they operate on the car, let alone the tyre age and wear (and any damage seen or unseen). HTH. Will They Fit -https://www.willtheyfit.com Wheel-Size.com - https://www.wheel-size.com/
  42. Rim width and offset might be important too. I'd think the 16" would fit over your brakes, but worth checking that as well (e.g. most vRS's can't use wheels less than 17"). 'commercial rated tyres' - are they van tyres?: G
  43. @tetley 1) 225*0.45 = 101.25 wall height. 2) 185+0.60 = 111.0 wall height. As you've omitted the speed rating of the 16" tyres I can't be certain if they're usable on your car, but they're certainly slightly under radius.
  44. The easiest way to add Prat Nav to a vehicle not fitted with it ex-works is called a TomTom.
  45. We placed our order in early May and was expecting an update in June. We have them a few weeks but chased today. We were originally told the standard 12 weeks which would see us to August. It now looks like it's to Mid/late October. My current car has to go back to the lease co at the end of the month. We planned to be a month without but that's left us high and dry. We ordered a Kodiaq Sport line Phev with a few options. The shine has definitely dulled somewhat.
