I stop long ago to follow to the letter maintenance instructions when they no longer seem connected to the technical aspects of said maintenance ...

That MkI Octavia vRS is a stunner (irrespective of where it finished) 👌
  3. They are wonderful when running right, and when you can have repairs or servicing when required. Fabulous if you are running them for maybe 200 miles and at less than 1 gallon of fuel. Crap if it cost 50% to 100% more because it gets charged on public chargers. Really the UK Grants are not much of an incentive. There are big Chinese built EV,s with good range and Much Cheapness about to buy or lease, but if charging using public charging no matter how low the lease or purchase price there is the cost of running and depreciation to consider. A £27,000-£30,001 EV SUV running cheaply for 10 years seems like a 'simply clever' decision. But now the UK Government plan charging per mile at 3 pence. Carrot then whack on the head with a stick. ....................... Under £25,000 for an ICE Model. Wunderba. *** A page for the EV version for £217 a month including VAT keeps popping up on the EON NEXT website then goes before i can click on it and is not coming up with a search.***
  4. Whatever it is, there are signs around that the electric bubble might be about to burst and destined to be come an option rather than the only option if a new car is purchased. If electric cars are seen as an absolute no brainier because they are better in every way, then the public will make the decision to switch, in the same way as they did from horses to cars. People will switch if they can see they are better, the carrot is always the way to go, far better than the stick.
  5. An attempt to get some support back?
  6. I think many would like to see a fairer system where there are less have and have nots. Lots would like to see proper Regional Standing Charges but that was made clear as a no no. I think any region that blocks pylons being built were that region is the end user should have a surcharge imposed on them.

I have exactly the same car as you and I would be over the moon if I could achieve 57mpg. I have only twice had more than 50mpg on motorway runs and my long term average is around 43. Having said that, for a large 4 wheel drive car I didn't think it bad. Personally I have doubts that different tyres will produce significantly better or worse results.
  8. I expect the reduction to be off the standard tariff I doubt it will be off the off -peak tariffs
  9. If it is switched on in the infotainment system menu when the lights are in auto mode then by pushing the lever forward in the direction of the arrow the the matrix is in operation, it does require the ambient light level to be low to work properly . I found that the owner’s manual described the operation quite well
  10. I have only had an Ev 14 months and I am under no illusion that that the ongoing costs of having it are not going to go up year on year.
  11. So that's a 14 reg not an H reg!!! HJ is the location it was registered - the Bournemouth office. 14 is the 6 month period it was registered March 2014 to August 2014. VDD is the "random" letters specific to your vehicle.

Googling seems to suggest 80k too. Either way, it’s simple to get it sorted. Mine’s just ticked over 30k but it’ll be 5 years old in March so will have it done then; especially given the tuning, it’s stupid not to.
  13. LED's do wear out and your car is now 11 years old....but here at Briskoda, we like to keep things running as long as possible. Disassembling the highlight is not a 5-min job. A lot of that work will be labour. The electronics will be cheap to replace. Typically, it will be between 380-450euros for repair, so expect to pay this. Shop around; find a reputable repairer.

  15. Howdy folks. Sean here from Ireland. Back again after a good few years away from skoda. Just got myself a mk3 superb as a daily run about. Use to have a black fabia vrs back in the day. Some of ye may remember me for making armrest adapter brackets for them. Even had messages looking for them when I logged back in so sorry for not seeing them..

Given the power gap from the mk1’s up to the new ones, and let’s face, a mk1 octy/ furby is now a min 20/21 yrs old, finding a couple of actually unaltered, and running clean and well ones was probably a challenge. So they were never gonna be giving much newer stuff a real run. Even losing 1 horse a year they were gonna be down a good bit. That said, I do think they both did incredibly well!
  17. At 12 years old the condenser is likely near the end of its life expectancy anyway, so no point servicing it! Wait until it fails and just get it fixed and regassed at that point.

I had a Fabia 1 VRS which was a great combo of low running cost and bit nippy with the 130 hp tdi. Local dealership who sold me that and a few other high performance Skoda also has a SEAT franchise and they had the Ibiza 160 hp version of the 1.9 tdi, and then they got the chip for it, knocking on for 200 hp supposedly and it was too much. Spinning up the front wheels too easy. Loved my mk 1 VRS Octy, have had it wheel spinning right up to 70 mph still in second. Best speed over was over 150 mph in my my 2 Octy VRS and it was still accelerating. Favourite Skoda was probably the 1.8 tsi l&k mk 2. Only got it too 135 mph but such a nice car with the short stroke EA888 engine, red line 7k but pulled well from 1500 ram and so nice with all the toys.

Do you mean the rare 2.0l Fabia mk1 is better? The mythical Mustang slayer!
  21. I was talking about tyres for my current car, a 2018 Fiesta. 205/45 17s. They were the older Cross Climate +. I'd love to try the Cross climate 3 to see if/how much they've improved but currently they don't do that size (205/40 & 205/50, but not 205/45!). As for milage CC+, around 32k miles, mostly on front, but swapped to rear in winter. Goodyears, currently an impressive 38k miles, but mostly on the rear. I need to replace them next month before the MOT in Feb. I remember I once only got 8k miles out of a pair of Rainsport 3s in my mk1 Fabia . However I'm guessing my 1.0l Ecoboost is much lighter than the old 1.9 TDI lump.
  22. A lot of people rave about Cross Climates, however when I've tried them on my car, I wasn't impressed with their wet performance, especially when worn. Quite a few all season tyre tests criticise the wet performance of them too. I am currently running Pirelli and a pair or warn Goodyear all seasons and can't fault them. The Pirelli all seasons have won tyre tests for the last 2 years. As I always say, buy the best tyres you can afford, remember it's the only thing that touches the road!

  25. This is hugely true...In Greece, law has changed, so that you have to carry them all the time, from November to march, and have to place them, every time there is a police announcement, for a specific region...but that's on papers...in real, you have to place them, mostly in touristic or crowded region where controls are constant...it has happened to me, a couple of times, travelling to south Greece, in Peloponnese territory, where the police stopped me, before entering a snowy part of the road...they asked me if I have chains, I answered that I have snow socks with me plus 4wd, they gave a glance at the car, and let me go, advising, to put the socks, if I face troubles...snow was about 3cm, for about 20 Kms....I passed with speed around 60 Kms/h, no problem....it has happened also, during a trip to central Greece with heavy snowfall, motorway covered up to 3-5 cms with snow, I passed normally with speeds up to 90 Kms/h, no problem for me, no stop for control by anyone....in northern Greece though, close to Fyrom or Bulgarian borders, controls are more often, but anyway, drivers there, use winter tires...most of them...
  26. Hi, Can i suggest you try the company listed below they fitted one to my 2024 Superb last year. They do supply only and fitted, i went down the road of having them fit it although having seen it done i would have been more than capable of doing it, the most difficult part of the whole appeared to be the removal of the tailgate trim. The complete job took less than 45 minutes. I suggest you give them a call and speak with Dougie he seems to be the boss and incidentally was the guy who fitted mine. From memory the fitted price was about £250 like yourself i tried the dealer and was told no kit was available. https://www.in-car-install.co.uk/product-category/reversing-cameras/ Good luck Beetee
  27. Those prices will likely be 'official' Skoda prices. Take a look at one of the Euro suppliers - such as skoda-parts.com - or aliexpress.com in China.
  28. No flashing glowplug light. Problem appears sorted with new glowplugs. Have reset the light and it’s stayed off. Runs smoother when cold too. Thanks for dongle/app suggestions.
  29. Thank you to both. I dove back from Lincolnshire yesterday at night - journey of all the types of roads! Detours, A roads, B roads, uphill, downhill and Motorways. Matrix lights are amazing, although I got flashed a couple of times - at least I think it was me! Adaptive CC was also very good, I was trying it out on the M1 and it worked well. It also still looks remarkably clean after the journey, my Mk 3 is filthy. Now to dig into the manuals again, and learn a bit more!
  30. Beauty. Congrats and welcome on board! Enjoy the run in period and getting to know the car more.

  32. Here's what it says about snow chains in the owner's manual for the Kodiaq MK2. Notice that it says, "Mount snow chains on the front wheels (215/65R17 6.5Jx17 ET38) only". Some of the 17" alloy rims have a specification of 7Jx17 ET40, so they aren't allowed to be used with snow chains because the rim width is not 6.5J and the offset is not ET38. Snow chainsUseSnow chains improve handling the vehicle on icy or snowy roads. What you should be mindful ofWARNING Risk of accident and tyre damage Do not use chains on sections without snow and ice. NOTICE Remove the wheel covers before fitting the snow chains. Mount snow chains on the front wheels only. Technical data and specificationsPermitted rim and tyre combinations for mounting snow chains: Rim dimensions Tyre dimensions 6.5J×17 ET38 215/65R17 Only use snow chains with links no larger than 13 mm, including locks.
  33. Some quick photos, more to follow after the detailing and ceramic coating. Done 156 miles in it- just wow!
  34. Most members of this site are not representative of the car driving population of the UK, which you seem to keep forgetting. Most UK residents do not have solar on their homes, and even less have solar with batteries. A significant proportion do not have driveways so cannot be sure of parking within a cable reach of their home. Taking all these factors into account there is a large percentage who will be dependent on public chargers, so the cost and UK wide availability of public EV charging is what is limiting EV take up.

I don't understand either, why only D250 and DQ500 need to have oil filter replaced, while all others don't. Do other ones have no filter? I've seen several 'how to' on YT to replace DSG oil on DG381, and as far as I can remember, they replaced the oil filter too. The principe, is very similar to DQ250, except there are 2 drain holes.
  36. Best if you say a petrol or diesel, and which engine that it is using whichever fuel. How many miles covered and when serviced last. How long has it been recurring. If a petrol has it had spark plugs changed at some point? When?
  37. Did your garage adapt (code) your new battery into the vehicles BMS?
  38. Well, being a tech idiot, I got our lovely local garage to order a battery and come out the 150 metres & fit it. Good job they did, because I was just about to wreck the nearside front door handle trying to get to a non-existent real lock. Turns out that (against what I had been told) the real lock is where it ought to be - in the driver's side under the little clip-on cover. Then of course we still couldn't open the passenger door to undo the bonnet lever... but it's just about possible to open it with the door shut. Just. New battery installed, and everything sprang back to life. Phew.
  39. This might help it might not, it would seem like the winter cold weather demons are doing their work again, I got in my car to go home after work one day last week and I noticed that the clock was at 00:00 so I checked the settings and it was still on the auto time zone so I changed it to manual, went back to the home screen, no change. So as with most things these days, turn it off and back on again, however there is a reset you can do, with the unit on, simply press and hold the on/off button and it will eventually reset and come back on. Give it a try, it's worth a punt. . . .

It will make quite a bit of difference compared to regions in the UK and Summer / Winter and E10 95 ron or E5 97/99. Temperatures of 20-30*oC being something there is some of the time. Road surfaces being another thing that can be different. Best really to brim a tank and maybe see how many miles / km a car can go per litre in the likes of a city or out of. Short trips in cold weather conditions make a big difference. Then longer trips and not too hot weather might be more efficient in really quite warm weather.
  42. Hi all, so after delaying and delaying I finally bit the bullet and booked my car in for a Cambelt change and water pump too. The garage I have been using recently, a sole trader, informed me he did not have the special tool required to do it. I found another garage and after visiting and speaking to them, booked it in. I was quoted just over £1000, which I know I would have to spend at some point due to the mileage and age meaning a belt change would be immanent. Done in a day, no issues. And all the problems I had been having are no more. I have left it for a good few weeks incase it did reoccur but so far so good. I am now very confident that my suspicions of it being to do with the electronic shroud part of the water pump was correct. Lets hope I haven’t just jinked it 🤞🏻🙏🏻 Thanks all for you help.

When you consider that everything else had about 100hp over the Mk1's and 2's, they didn't do badly. The mk1 fabia took a hell of a lot of speed off quickly under braking, I'm guessing it was on the standard brakes and got heat fade.

I'm inclined to think that following economy driving techniques will give substantially better results than changing to different tyres.
  46. 1 point
Yeah, I know, but tyres like the Continental EcoContact6/PremiumContact7 or Michelen Primacy 4+ seem to come out top in most tests and offer LLR features (yes, I know they're the most expensive tyres). Just wondered if anyone had tried tyres like this on their Superb and seen improved economy/mpg.
  47. Opened that bitch up, the ribbon cable was snapped, wound it back up, soldered the broken connections and it's all working again! The way the original connection is made, it's just a single point, tiny spot weld, no wonder these break all the time. These things are totally repairable.
