  1. There are 5 high speed dual charging station at a small retail park around the corner to us, they worked for approx. 2 days after opening before being covered over as "unavailable", 5 weeks on the covers slashed and leads had been cut off, been like that now for 6 months. It's no wonder me getting an EV is receding in my mind. I believe the infrastructure supplying the retail units was underrated for the chargers in the first place, excellent planning
  2. Yeah, that's pretty much what the service manager at my dealer said regarding driving it to get the SOC back up, unless you're doing a multi-hour trip on the open road at decent (or indecent...) speeds. Far better to occasionally charge put it on a tender, a lot less hassle and expense. This is a good explanation of the differences between EFB and AGM batteries: Do you need EFB or AGM Battery?| VARTA Automotive BatteriesEFB or AGM? Find out which battery suits your vehicle best ► Compare VARTA® battery technology for start-stop and high-energy vehicles.I think Skoda/VAG just tried to save costs fitting EFB batteries with the smart charging system, given the amount of electronics on these cars, particularly the higher spec models an AGM is a much smarter choice IMO.
  3. On the day cost of charging an EV at home drops 4.8% due to the VAT removal......
  4. Broken wires in driver's door bellows. Super common.
  5. I wonder whether the suspension was allowed to settle with the car's full weight on the wheels before all the bolts were tightened?
  6. I should have said that eventually the abs and the traction control lights were also illuminated, found the sensor so today's task!
  7. I got an emissions system warning light on a trip to Prague recently on my 186,000 mileage 2016 Skoda Superb 1.6 TDi Greenline. The car drove fine, all the way back to London. My diagnostics tablet indicated a glow plug fault on Cylinder 1. When I clear the fault it returns within a day or two, usually after a cool morning start. I already have torque wrenches, a socket set, a set of large circlip pliers and penetrating oil. This morning I've ordered a Bosch glow plug (BOS0250403009) from GSF, as well as a Wolfbox MF100 battery electric air blower and and Liqui Moly glow plug grease from ebay. I'll be using the circlip pliers to help remove the electrical connection. And a combination of penetrating oil and a torque wrench and a hot engine and patience over a few days to remove the old glow plug. Fingers crossed that this will be a straight-forward DIY job...
  8. For some time now, almost everytime I pull away (backwards or forwards) it leaps, pauses and then pulls away as expected. I've asked the question of various persons in the know but failed to get a fix. Two weeks ago, I had the front brake pads replaced. They were getting "grabby" and were well worn down. Almost immediately I noticed that pullimg away was much smoother. The second go at pulling away trick has now gone. I can only think that the front pads were intermittently binding up on the disc and letting go at the second push. Hopefully, this will help someone else with the same or similar issue.
  9. I used to own the Superb Hatchback KYXX XXB which had been faultless for my 4 years of ownership. Unfortunately on 10th April I was involved in a small accident which resulted in the offside front bumper, headlight and corner bonnet being damaged. The rest of the car was in excellent condition with 37.000 miles on the clock. I was amazed when the insurance company deemed it uneconomical to repair and offered me a payment which I accepted. I now see that the car is back on the road. So if you are the new owner of the car and would like all its full service and maintenance records from new message me and I will forward on. I will keep the offer open for another 4 weeks before I dispose of them if I have had no contact
  10. I've been a Michelin Cross Climate fan for years, but decided to save some money this time, having watched the latest YouTube 'Tyre Reviews' video of all season tyres. The Vredestein Quatrac Pro + came second ahead of pricier rivals. They were £91 each from Camskill (plus carriage and local fitting), so £115 each all in, compared with £154 the best fitted price I could find near me for Cross Climate 3s. So £150 cheaper a set for very good tyres. So far so good. Will report back. Anyone else using them?
  11. Is it a hatchback or estate? Is it the 150PS version? Does it have DCC (electronically regulated) shock absorbers? Does it have lowered ride height, standard ride height or increased ride height? What springs and shock absorbers does it use? "skoda parts com" can be used to find these parts by parking the car in the online garage using its VIN number...then when the springs and shock absorbers are searched for, only the correct ones are shown. An alternative to using "skoda parts com" is to obtain the car's build codes. There's a seller on ebay that sells the build codes for 3 Euros (about £2.50). Search "skoda vin decoder" on ebay to find the listing. A build code is made up of 3 letters and/or numbers. The car might have around 180 of them, so there are a lot. Each build code tells you something about what the car was fitted with in the factory. By referring to the build codes and the Skoda parts catalogue, it's often possible to work out what springs and shock absorbers the car left the factory with. If it's an Octavia MK4 2.0TDI 150PS 4x4 estate, the springs might be 5Q0411105GM or 5Q0411105GN front and 5Q0511115BJ rear...based on the Kilen and gknautomotive online spring catalogues. If the car is standard ride height, one option is to fit Bilstein B6 shock absorbers. These cost about £650 for all four shock absorbers, plus the fitting cost. Bilstein B6 shock absorbers have a superior mono-tube design, which is more expensive than the standard twin-tube design...hence their superior performance.
  12. Stabilus is OEM by VAG Change need both Side 4 Minutes
  13. Haven't used them but have considered them and have used other Vredestein products such as the Hytrac, Sportrac 3 and Ultrac Sessanta. All were excellent tyres and good value. Recently though I've used Falken and Goodyear tyres as replacements as the Vredesteins can sometimes be difficult to find.
  14. Thanks for replies guys All sorted. Ended up being the lower toe control arm on driver side. The inner bolt had worked its way loose. Supposedly all checked when alignment was done. But all good now
  15. Image of said chargers
  16. So more articles on fuel and China banning exports and then Car Dealer magazine on the rush to buy ev,s but dealers not wanting trade in ice,s. Maybe so. Lots and lots of Chinese manufactured and owned EV,s in the UK ready and at sea on there way here. Win win, every cloud a silver lining for China thanks to the POTUS.
  17. Yep. I'd agree, my 2014 had some issues with the locking, found several broken wires and wires with insulation cracked. DIY repair if you are comfortable messing about with wires/soldering etc. I suspect the passenger door and boot lid going the same way unfortunately...age, repeated bending/stretching and material quality all an issue here.
  18. Andy Burngam mp / Pm and ministers announcing so much, hinting at so much. But this country is England mostly, they just forget to say England only as do bbc anxxsky. If all of UK then they need to say that. Heating oil support in Scotland expanded. But You and yours on Radio 4 yesterday seemed unaware. As with so many things. English Broadcasting corporporation. 19. OBDeleven or VCDS I would suggest.
  20. Good call. I have had the geometry done not too long ago (for a completely different reason), but I'll perhaps go back and get it done again. Tyres have no wear issues. I've even switched from 4-season to summers and back - no change.
  21. The DSG box "learns" driving patterns, so maybe the previous owner hammered it. Try a reset.
  22. Still be less expensive to retain your old ICE car unless it requires thousands of pounds beibg spent on it. It costs around a thousand to have a home charger installed.
  23. if I use the paddles on mine it displays M and the gear number if I don’t use the paddles to change up the DSG changes up at the redline to protect the engine and gearbox - which is the same as sport mode.
  24. i have these, on 2WD, and will buy them again. Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 235/45 R20 W (100) XL https://www.blackcircles.com/brands/bridgestone/turanza-all-season-6/235-45-r20-w-100?tyre=46696682 also other sizes available.
  25. @minsy that is a really unusual behaviour from a DSG gearbox, I’ve driven DSG cars since 2013, currently have wet clutch DSG in the Karoq and dry clutch in the Fabia, previously had a VW Touran with wet clutch DSG never experienced anything like you have described. In everyday driving they have all changed all up between 1500 and 2000 rpm unless the throttle is pushed to the floor when they change up at the red line. I do know that the DSG adapts to driving style: I tow a twin axle car trailer, both the petrol Karoq and previous diesel VW Touran would hang on to the lower gears and change down when easing off on down hill sections for a day or so until they re-adapted to driving solo.
  26. For best fit rather than rock bottom price, it's easy, I have been using skoda-parts.com for many years, parts by Skoda/VW number, checked against your car's VIN, either original part or a decent quality alternative (often a choice of both), and you can still ask them further by sending a message if you are not sure. Some things are worth getting from Autodoc though, as they can be a lot less expensive for premium quality, for example zinc coated brake discs. But you really have to triple check part numbers with Autodoc, both Skoda and specific part manufacturer's, and make sure you get sent what you ordered and not a cheap alternative. It can be a fuss with Autodoc, but can be worth £100+ on a brake disc order alone when compared to say ECP. As for UK suppliers, I occasionally use GSF or ECP as they are both local to me, but for any larger order than £50, like e.g. 2 quality rear suspension springs, I find GSF and ECP are often double the price of skoda-parts. I do not order many used parts, but I have used ebay on odd occassion for these. HTH
  27. I followed the instructions and smartlink is activated, thank you
  28. Trying to get the SOC back up by driving the car, especially with the present smart charging is not a great idea IMO and just a waste of fuel The family, Jan 2026 Polo, only seems to keep the SOC around 72/74% and a round trip last May dropping someone off at the Airport bears out the very low charging rates. The average charging ignoring engine off time and starting load was ~ 3.9A at 13.51V and, even after 23 miles the charging rate was less than 4A on overrun at 14.8V (SOC still only 72%). However, I will let it soldier on, the other 7.5 year Polo now passed down the line previously operated almost the same as this one and if I can get 8+ years out of the battery in both I will be happy enough I think, stop/start always works when requested so perhaps running at ~ 70% SOC isn't that such of a disaster after all?. 29. One thing I learnt recently is to not let the battery get too low as it can cause issues, primarily with the airbag module. I had a period of use that involved lots of short trips which let the SOC drop, next thing there was an airbag warning. Turns out that the low battery caused a fault with the module and it needed to be replaced as it was essentially bricked, I know in some countries there are places that can restore the modules but I'm not sure if we have any in new Zealand. My car was only a few months out of warranty and the dealer wanted to charge circa $2000 for the new module, when I made them aware that this was a known issue on MQB platform cars and that I thought they should go to Skoda for a goodwill warranty they coughed and spluttered a bit but agreed to talk to Skoda who thankfully came to the party. It seems in this market at least, Skoda ship the vehicles with the cheaper and less efficient EFB style of battery when they really should have AGM batteries. I'm still on the original battery but will definitely upgrade to an AGM when this one starts to go downhill, it still tests OK but at over 5 years I'm guessing it doesn't have too much life left in it. Like @Warrior193 I now put the car on a battery tender occasionally or if it's not being used for some time. So far, so good and FWIW I don't use ASS, it gets turned off as a matter of course before every drive.
  30. I’ve never heard anyone comment on the DSG changing gear at high revs usually the comment is it changes too soon and they use Sport mode to hold on to lower gears for longer. I don’t suppose you are in Sport rather than Drive?
  31. SOC stands for State of Charge. Also, If ASS is not available when it should be then the symbol will still display but with a line through it.
  32. Sorry. As the posts above. Dowhill Farm between Turnberry and Girvan. In and asphalting and lines painted just completed today. Wind turbine on the hill. Should not be long till goes live.
  33. I have great news! The issue was caused by a defective oil pressure control valve (N522) that measured an incorrect electrical resistance (0.8 Ohm). After replacing the valve, the fault code is completely gone and the car operates normally.

Skoda News when Skoda get around to making an announcement. In the EU/Europe-UK. Maybe even RECALL vehicles that might be affected by contacting Registered Keepers.
  35. We replaced our 8 year old Karoq with a new one in March this year. We also have a 4 year old Kamiq, both are 1.5 DSG. I don't recognise any of the problems raised by the OP. Gear changes are as smooth as silk, we have no problems with the infotainment system. I was anti ACC at first compared with the standard CC, and still wish I could switch between the two. I don't like the way ACC works on multi lane carriageways but it's ideal when following traffic on single lane roads, unlike CC. Overall though all our Skodas have been bombproof, only needing normal servicing.

Not sure I can answer your questions specifically. But I love the solution on this one to keep OEM look with super sprint back boxes
  37. I promised an update. Haven't forgotten but only heard last week from Skoda Customer Services that after due consideration they will not be covering this under warranty. It took several months to come to this predictable decision. The car has driven perfectly with no problems and no more messages. I still wonder if it's a software glitch and not an an actual physical fault.
  38. Worth a close look at the rear tyres, especially inner wall edge. Estates are very prone to camber issues causing sawtoothing/feathering and noise. I had this a while ago and a 4 wheel alignment sorted the issue. Tend to run the tyres at a slightly higher pressure as well, I'm using Crossclimates on my 4x4 Estate. Could be something else but worth checking the basics.
  39. I put my money on a failing wheel bearing. MOT is just a safety inspection, so the drivetrain is not part of it.
  40. Had to do this last summer. On the mk4 when you turn ignition off the main info screen gives you the option to turn off “interior monitoring” — that’s what needs to be turned off so that the vehicle doesn’t set off the alarm if the sea is a bit choppy. No need to turn anything else off. So it’s all in the main screen when you turn off the ignition.
  41. Or on the central screen more often these days. Owners manuals are a common source of 'how to'.
  42. Another thing is I only learnt recently is that cars like my Greenline II run the battery at a lower voltage to leave room for topping up with energy from braking regeneration.
