  2. Getting ready for Silvetrstone on Sunday now. We are on the International circuit which is nice as I found the National a bit simple in terms of layout last year. New Brisky screen banners going on... And as my National A license has come through due to having finished 6 races now it's time to get the beast out. Bit of last minute tweaking and we have a bit over 600bhp/tonne to the rear wheels. My Fiesta is out alongside the Brisky ones too, but in CSCC a race win sees you get a 30 second extra pit stop time penalty so we'll have to see where we end up at the finish line! Stops someone dominating like in a championship. Going to be a busy Sunday!

  3. She can indeed. Lack of testing didn't help. She's jumped from GT rear drive to the Clios this year and total testing time due to a late signing meant half a day in the Clio before the first race. Not ideal, considering she's never raced a front drive car before. Engine problem first race, collapsed damper 2nd race, it's now starting to go the right was indidents and getting punted off aside. Pace is there for solid top 10s with podiums in sight by end of year hopefully!

  4. What actually happened was another driver took a very late lunge down the inside of her into a corner before the video. Something there was no space to do which involved him getting 4 points on his race license that afternoon. This resulted in broken rear suspension which she felt approaching the next corner. Hence she headed off track on the video with a broken car and another driver didn't allow for the speed difference and had rather a big moment. The whole thing was caused by a driver not on the video that got 4 points for the incident. Shame really as it put her out of the race, at the time of impact she had gone from 13th (IIRC) to 7th and was on for her first top 10 finish now she is getting used to the car. There was damage to the rear corner of Jade's car and none to the front in the 2nd race which the video is of. Not much of a negative really. Got the logo on TV!

  7. I have just taken delivery of my SE L 150tdi 4x4 DSG with towbar and was disappointed that I couldn't have the towbar with a manual box however I have had a dsg on an Audi A3 before and didn't mind it. This one is far superior. It slips into neutral when not under load and then reinstates gear when the brake or accelerator is pressed knowing that you need control back. It also senses when you need engine braking (presumably from angle sensors which control hill descent control feature) as it puts it back into gear then too. Not towed yet but going to the caravan this weekend so will hook it up to test electrics and that it fits my Alko hitch ok. I must confess to skipping a couple of pages of this thread but the people that are talking about a 2100 (or is it 2500) kg towing capability of their Yeti's obviously don't look at weight ratios as a lot of cars will tow quite a heavy load but to do it safely you shouldn't really be exceeding the vehicular weight with the towed load. I can't imagine a Yeti weighs anywhere near 2100kgs. Surprised I haven't seen a few more Yetis in ditches with caravans and speedboats attached (or not)! NB: Loving the Kodiaq a week in. It's great. :-)

  8. Heya everyone. You may or may not remember me, but I was quite prevalent around these parts in days or yore, bothering all and sundry with endless technical questions about my '51 plate Mk. 1 Vrs. Regular readers may recall that I owned her for 5 years, changed the odometer mileage from around 80k to something circa 160k - and had remaps and various bits of fun along the way. You may also remember my ridiculous, lovesick admiration for my ropey old motor. She was honest, fun, reliable - and maybe a bit battle-scarred in the end....but I loved her. Circa 9 months ago, I went to the 'dark side' and bought an (admittedly lovely) Mk. 3 vrs. Bright red, from a main dealer, with the only sensible choice of a petrol engine and a manual gearbox. It has been a bit of a 'love-hate' relationship with my Mk. 3 to be honest (I have posted about it) but overall, as I stand now, I have warmed to her and I am happy to have her. I think I am just a bit old school and I was a little resistant to all the modern car features, so to speak.....and I missed my old Mk. 1. However, she went to a good home, namely a friend of mine, for the princely sum of a grand. A bargain really, given the condition, servcie history and mahoosive stereo system laying within (which I just couldn't be arsed to spend a weekend removing!) Fast forward to today, and my friend calls me. He says he's done only around 1,000 miles in the time he has owned my old girl, and has realised that he just does not really use / need a car for his 'lifestyle'. She's in much the same condition as when I sold her to him, save for a rather nasty gash his neighbour visited upon the front bumper. However in a strange twist of fate, I still have a perfect spare Mk. 1 front bumper sitting in my garden from years ago...funny how life is eh?! My mate says to me, he says 'ere - I don't suppose you'd be interested in buying your old car back from me, would you - before I stick it on the internet?' He then says 'I'd be happy with 700 quid...'. And under his ownership, he's also replaced the rear brake calipers, discs and pads, and fitted a new secondary air intake pump. The car is MOT'd and Taxed too.... Well.....I sort of made my mind up pretty much straight away - especially as I am fortunate enough to share a workshop with a friend, containing not only every tool and grinder and lathe the casual amateur mechanic could want, but a 2 post lift as well. I was starting to look for a new classic car to buy and tinker with.....however I thought that, with the prices and rarity of decent Mk. 1 vrs's only going one way lately, it may be an idea to grab my old girl back, and invest some time and money in dragging her to something approaching a 'good as new' condition. A sort of mild investment in a future classic, if you get me? Anyway oh look - sorry, I have gone off on a right old ramble. Those of you that are still with me - what do you reckon? What would YOU do? Shall I get her back? Comments and discussions very welcome please. Thanks chums! (PS I don't have a wife or girlfriend or kids or any of that drain on my resources - or nagging voice in my ear about 'what a waste of time and money' it may be.... )

  14. Hi all I borrowed this 360 LG camera and got this idea why not put it on top of my car! Haha. Max speed was maybe 60 or 70 km/h driving with this on my roof. Didn't want to risk it falling off. I used Gorilla tripod with magnetic ends to hold it on roof.

  15. My local ECP have said the new ABS Sensor will probably arrive tomorrow so I decided to remove the current one, give the area a clean, and plug it back to see if that cured the problem (it didn't in case you are looking for a happy ending, but at least the sensor is now free). I've circled in red the section of cable that wasn't located in the white connector - no idea why it wasn't plugged in but it requires some effort to remove the cable from that white clip! A 5mm allen key removed the ABS sensor, after giving it a spray with some penetrating oil. I also had to clean out the 5mm hex to get the key engaged in the hole properly, but once the retaining bolt was removed it just need a bit of pressure at the base of the sensor to free it from the hub - actually it pinged out under the middle of the car which wouldnt have done it a lot of good! I sprayed brake cleaner and used some cotton buds to clean out excess dirt/dust and then reassembled. As I said it hasn't cured the problem but it might have, and now I know it should be easy to fit the new ABS sensor. Fingers crossed that fixes the problem. a few pics.....

  18. I think a new set of coil packs is not a bad idea, especially with your occasional misfire issue. Doesn't have to be the R8 ones but they do seem to get a good response. I'd say coil packs is a wiser investment than similar money on the DV+ initially at least. Of course your diverter may fail which will require you to reconsider the issue again, if you come to that bridge. But then again it may not.

  19. LOL ! Hello from Australia... #StillAlive Have ordered the VRS Wagon - we had an option for "Tech Pack" or "Luxury Pack" - and then 19" wheels, SunRoof and auto-boot. That's all. I've gone for them ALL - except for sunroof...

  20. Political debate aside.... dragging this back on topic, mistakes were clearly made by security services probably due to cuts, etc, but they are at least covering ground now and doing their utmost to get on top of the aftermath. Thats of no consolation to the victims and families, really but at least its happening. Would probably be going better if the dumbnuts across the atlantic could keep their mouths shut for 5mins though. The City of Manchester appears to be rallying itself quite well, and showing a strong cross community response to this tragedy. This is the correct, if seemingly counter-intuitive way to handle such an event, as it sucks more momentum from the perpetrators hopeful outcomes of dividing and causing the hostilities they feed from. Keep it up Manchester, show grief, show anger, but show a community bond beyond race/religion divides.

  22. No offence to the op (original poster) but I am so pleased that there is no interest in this amongst the superb cliental. It was depressing enough when someone wanted to de badge one. I guess as they age they will become more popular (as cheaper) to the de badge, sub woofer, loud exhaust type of customer. Whatever happened to whip aerials and go fast stripes?

  23. Yup, that'll look great, you'll only have about three radio stations to choose from which all play the same infantile teenaged gurl music but it'll LOOK wicked.

  24. If you do get a refurb , then you have saved for this 7.5 metre gun and hose, then youve a spare gun also, but to be honest its only the o ring you would have a problem with after 2 years of hard use and then you just swap ends, I always buy from here for spares and at £37.99 makes it much more versatile , http://www.espares.co.uk/product/es1331411/pressure-washer-hose-and-hand-gun---75m?pageNumber=1&PartTypeId=1638&ModelTypeId=15also the cheaper snow foam guns are great as long as you run water through them after as some models you cannot remove the gauze as easily as the genuine ones

  29. Lol yes it's easy to do. To start - Foot on brake, and hit 'start' to start. To stop - Foot on brake hit 'start' to stop and leave the radio and fans on (like turning a normal key one notch). To turn the radio and fans etc off take your foot off the brake and press 'start'. If you leave your foot on the brake it'll start again. What I think you're meant to do. Pull up at destination, hard (no indicators clearly, I mean FFS you're in a beemer). Hit 'start' to switch off the engine and pull on the handbrake. Car will stick itself in P Get out & lock car, it'll switch everything off for you. The start stop is pretty aggressive tbh, I switch it off at junctions since it can stop you nipping out into smaller gaps. And the auto lights are a bit shoite too. They never go off except in blazing sun. It's like a second 'on' switch. And the auto wipers are shoite. they have about 5 levels of sensitivity going from "Ultra super sensitive detect water in the desert at 100mile" to "Really feckin sensitive, wipers on full if someone sneezes within 50m" Give me good old intermittent with manual control.

  36. Six years since I moved to the UK. Very fond memories of that road, from Avoca all the way through Glendalough and over the Wicklow Gap, did it many times and enjoyed every mile! Cooked the brakes coming down towards Blessington on a laden works van one evening, that was "interesting"...

  37. No problem with removing the battery. Several on here, including myself, have popped the battery to change the %*&^ bulbs ! No problem with codes or anything else when reconnecting. That access panel wasn't much use, for me at least - except as an inspection hatch, to have a look at the layout in the headlamp. As for "a little patience" ... I would recommend the catering-size bottle of patience. At least two of them. One for each headlamp. Stock up on Magic Words as well.

  39. Not sure if that was aimed at my reply S27VEJ, but I made no implication regarding your intelligence. I pointed out that they can fail in more then one way. If the power in wire snaps, it may well fail both mirrors, I had one fail in just the up/down but not the left/right motion and it was indeed the passenger side. Inside the door bellows, there are a handful of wires, all quite thin and probably all just as likely as the next one to snap. Always the first place to look if the fuses are sound.

  42. I looked in Haynes manual and they had door trim removal that states "Push back and unclip the front of the switch panel". The bigger description says you slide the switch panel to the rear edge of the door and unclip at from the front. Whilst withdrawing the switch panel, disconnect the wiring loom. I am unsure if this process can be carried out WITHOUT removing any other parts of the inner door trim as it was a general door trim removal sequence so that will be trial and error! I will scour the manual to see if they have just a specific removal sequence but in the meantime, that may be what you need to do. Oh: they also state disconnect the battery so...
