  1. No - but I did get this:- Hi,dear buyer,we are really sorry that the item you ordered is out of stock, how about we refund money to you first, because we don't want you be so worried about it. so sorry for the inconvenience. please tell me your opinion,we will totally respect . looking forward to your reply . Have a nice day !! Yes, he's right - I am now 'so worried about it' and also totally gutted as I'd already found a place to buy the kettles that @Lee01 mentioned. However.............. As that smaller generator which I mentioned earlier was still for sale and deciding that buying 30 kettles would also be cheaper than buying 75, I bought that one too. After all, surely they can't surely have got stock problems with two of their generators? Let's see what emails tomorrow brings.

  2. It's pretty common though not guaranteed to fail. On the up side, problems appear gradually so you might see an occasional brief overheat as it starts to stick, then normal operation resumes quickly. It's very unlikely to drop dead stranding you.

  3. I reckon you've hit the nail on the head GM, it could be the Perseids as Mac pointed out. A year later and they're here again. Too much of a coincidence. Possibly meteor dust coagulating in moisture and then falling in little pellets. Fascinating Gaz

  8. Using the Eunos as a daily. interesting times.... (the octy is still broken and in the garage) can you see the Eunos in this picture ?! because it appears no one else can... apparently my car is special, it came from the factory in Japan with one of the rarest, and most expensive options available, a "cloak of invisibility" .... as every idiot in their giant SUVs obviously can't see through the raindrops, and have tried to kill me at every junction/roundabout/country bend etc etc .... maybe they can only see other SUVs ?! ****ing idiots. wish I could make them all retake their driving tests, I'd stop them , get out, and walk back. on the plus side, its been fun using it in the rain! (apart from the fact it may now rust into nothing by the weekend...)

  10. Great to find BRISKODA on my search for an Octavia. About to part with SAAB 9-3.... sad that the marque is no more....a great BMW/Audi alternative that has served me very well, with a hint of 'not-just-another-German-repmobile'. And now onto the thinking chap's VAG choice! Can't believe what they can get out of a 1.2 petrol these days. Smaller engine than my wife's 03 Micra!! Looking forward to it.

  11. I hope you're all well and this is my second Skoda, first was a company car and she went on through to 240k miles!! So, when recently searching for a towing car, while looking at a X5 we spotted a 4x4 Skoda Superb Elegance, but it was out of our price range until my Mrs decided she wanted it and beat this salesman up! So, here I am!!! Looking forward to picking your brains and offering solutions I have found, if there is any you are not aware of!! ha ha Take care, drive fast but safe! Pete

  12. Thought i would share my front right bearing removal and installment. My car is a Octavia vrs - 04. The kit i bought. SKF bearing kit - Came with a spring and three nuts. Made a contraption-cage so i was able to pry against something with my regular jaw-puller. The cage laid against the dustshield and the housing. Then i laid a thick plate on top to press against. The jaw-puller i used. Hub out, inner race still left on the hub. Bearing left to be pulled out. Pulls out. Took some turns and then a loud click was heard and it went out smooth. Bearing pulled out successfully. Housing got cleaned up. Pulling in new bearing with greased housing. Seated with lock-washer installed. Had to grind down the sides of the Inner race to weaken it so i could use a rod to crack it. It cracked and I was able to pull it off, wear eyeprotection when hitting on bearings. Greased up and ready to be pulled in. Hope this can be helpful for someone! It took from parking the car to drive away aprox 4h. Hardest part was the Inner bearing. I marked up and only removed the 3 nuts under balljoint. And of course the hub-nut. Made it in situ. Now the car is quiet and enjoyable to drive again in higher speeds. (I didnt took any more pictures.) Cheers!

  14. VAG make silly choices based on marketing... My 1.4 140PS can make may more than 250NM...plenty of tuners getting good reliable figures.... I won't bite as the gearbox is weak & the best tuners (ABT & MTM) limit their maps for this engine to 250NM to protect the gearbox & clutch....I know I spoke to them.

  15. So finally I have taken the plunge and swapped my 2016 vRS TSI DSG for a 2015 Golf R DSG 5Dr. The main reasons are: 1) I wanted a quick petrol 4WD 2) I wanted autohold which makes the ACC work much better. My Octavia was at stage 1 from the guys at Oscarli and their map is awesome. It actually felt slight faster than the R with the golf in std form. The thing is that the Golf can put the power down in any weather - the Haldex system is excellent. In the damp or wet it just launches off the line as good as the vRS did in the dry :-) If Skoda made a vRS 4WD even in the 220/230 ps format with autohold I would have brought that, as the boot on the Octy is great compared to the tiny boot on the Golf. I must say though the exhaust on the R is fantastic, silent when pottering around then nice and loud as you ask for the power. The DSG gear change note is quite addictive. The ACC works so much better on the Golf, when queuing there is no need to put you foot on the brake pedal once the car has stopped (thus disabling ACC), it's only a little thing but makes the world of difference. The plans are to take this to Oscarli and have stage 1 map to take it to around 360-380bhp, then when funds allow have the DSG TCU remapped to really allow full use of the power when driving around normally. The Engine remap should bring back the aggressive torque that the vRS had but with the 4WD it would leave it for dead. I'll still be around though on the forum :-)

  17. Didn't the Central Convenience module get merged into BCM at some point in history? Don't ask me when, but I'd be surprised if a 2012 car had a separate module 46, does an autoscan try to talk to it?
    1 point
  18. If its any use, my fabia had a problem with the module 46 and it said there was no response from controller, couldn't code anything for the central locking as a result. I had to disconnect the battery for 10 mins then reconnect so the module could reset itself and be read again. I don't know whether that might be the case or whether it just doesn't have the module fitted.

  22. Why change at all? Given it sounds as though you own the current car outright and would have to purchase the replacement outright, if there's nothing wrong with the car then maybe keep it at least for another year, perhaps two and see what's available then? Might be some better options for you then (I suspect if I drove a hybrid to work the last few miles which can take 20+ minutes the combustion engine wouldn't be running at all) and the money you're not spending on a replacement buy plenty of fuel... One thing to be aware of is the 70k mark if you're thinking of PX. I suspect with a car like that you'd do much better on a private sale to someone who is specifically looking for a petrol version of the Superb Estate. As you've found, it's a relatively small percentage of them! Cheers, Steve

  23. Finally did my brakes at the weekend - all up and running again now but not sure for how long as the front offside caliper is on the way out (corroding piston leading to it sticking)... Nice to have it up and running again but looks like I've jinxed the weather! Still - hopefully it'll now pass it's MOT...

  25. Brief update: I have changed the original Swing radio with a Kenwood 7000 2-Din Dab radio. 1) I installed the window screen antenna that came with the radio. The airbag cover is fasted with springs had to be lifted upwards. 2) I mounted the handsfree mic on the drivers side and just tucked the cable under the side of the airbag cover. 3) Removed the old radio 4) I used a thick isolated copper wire to "fish" the mic and antenna cables from the side compartments (fuse box) into the radio compartment. 5) Installed the new radio with an installation kit (frame and wiring) that I bought with the radio. 6) It works! Did it yesterday, so it is too early to tell if the window screen antenna is good enough.

  26. On Saturday I sent the husband and kids off to The Journey Centre, as per pinkpanther's recommendation, and they came back with this very smart Thule. Really pleased with it; it came off so easily to go in the shed for now. It's going to get a lot of use, and if the kids misbehave, there's always the threat of The Roof Box!

  27. +1 for the 1.8 it is a cracking engine and as people have said generally comes with better brakes and multilink rear suspension. The 1.4 maybe being replaced by the 1.5 but Skoda has been dropping the 1.8tsi from much of its range (in the UK at least) and from what I see the introduction of the 2.0 (190) to the VAG group is not going to change that. Unfortunately if you want a bigger range of petrol engined (in the UK at least) cars you need to look somewhere other than Skoda

  33. Halfway ... I remove the trim, starting with the shift lever gaiter, then the buttons + frame around the lever. Then you get to 2 screws and you can remove the ashtray ( removed most of the trim using old credit cards ). Removed the ashray and removed the lighter socket ( not that easy, but it slides apart and I didn't care if it's damaged. ) I did have to cut away a tiny standoff in the socket hole to fit the USB socket, but it fitted nicely. The lighter connector has, 3 cables, (neg, pos, and light for the ring ). I don't want to cut off the connector so I'm gonna get 2 female clip sockets that plug in the existing conenctor and connect the USB socket that way. More pic's when it's finished. Btw - alixpress is full of usb lighter socket replacements like the one I linked to in my original post.

  34. They aren't legal as: - the optics aren't designed for a HID light source - it needs washers/self-levelling for light sources over 2000lm to meet the ECE regs The 'anti-glare' HID kits just have a metal shield around the HID capsule to try and reduce glare, however, in most cases they simply aren't effective as the design of reflector headlights vary so greatly. The seller doesn't actually care, they just want your money Just as an example, another member fitted a anti-glare H7r HID kit to a MK3 Octavia with reflector style headlights and the result was terrible. The shape of the beam looks about right although as it has saturated the camera it's hard to see where the hotspot etc actually is. However, it's the area I've marked out in red here that worries me. That is caused by light that isn't being controlled by the headlight and is causing glare. I can't see any trace of the same pattern from the halogen even with the brightness/contrast turned up.

  35. Since posting, I found the original receipt in my car ash tray. They had requested the first letter of the car registration which is also on the receipt, so I can challenge it anyway. There was an 8 minute delay between their time stamp of my entering the park to the time on my ticket. My wife is disabled and it takes a while to get her out into the wheelchair, so I may have exceed their time allowed to pay? I guess with pay & displays if they don't put a note on your windscreen at the time, it's your word against theirs. I'm afraid that the restaurant has lost any further business from me as I'm not likely to be parking in that car park again.
    1 point
  36. I would challenge this. If they photographed you in and out they have a record of all ins and out during the time you were parked. Therefore if receipts match car park entry tickets then you have your proof that you paid. It's not your fault if the parking control person is too dim to properly check you are displaying a ticket. Similarly if it's a completely automatic car park and you have to enter your reg. ask to see list of car reg's taken during your parking time, if yours is there then you are OK, if there's something very similar you may have to eat humble pie and talk nicely to them - good luck.
    1 point
  37. Did you have to input your car reg before the ticket was issued? Might you have made a mistake? If you were sent entry/exit photos then I doubt a warden was even in attendance. My current cars don't have the ability to display tickets using the windscreen clip and I do miss it.

  41. Been driving an Opel Astra Sports Tourer hire car for the last week here in Czech Republic, and it rides and handles a lot better than the Octavia, very little suspension or tyre roar. Its on 17" Continental tyres. I'll try and get some decibel readings at 70mph on the motorway to compare. However the roads here are a lot smoother...all our EU grant money has been spent on lovely smooth tarmac.
