  1. Went out for a walk round a reservoir this afternoon with ny daughter in her wheelchair. As we were going round i noticed that one of the wheels seemed very loose and was moving back and forth on the axle. The wheels are quick release and haven't been off for a few weeks so i thought something was broken. Got back home and eventually figured out it was a missing nylon spacer on the axle that was causing the excess play but thought it was gone forever from the east time we disassembled the chair in a car park somewhere. Anyhow have just emptied the boot and found it in the polystyrene spare wheel tray... I'm well pleased!!

  9. I'd say it's already there. My reasoning for this is thus. The last few years, for anything that happened outside of an A&E visit, I've gone to a private source first. Be that a physio, consultation or a scan. With the outcome, we've then taken that to the GP to skip the long wait/dance, with treatment in most cases on the NHS being excellent. Only a couple of instances did we opt for private as we disagreed with the "it will be fine" lower tier choice. The other week having spent an age trying to get a GP appt I got a quote for private medical. I'm not there yet, but I thought about it. As indicated for minor niggles and injuries I go private now. I can, so my thinking is ok it's £60 an hour, sort it this week, or limp/suffer for 2 weeks to get to GP then wait 12wks for a 15min physio slot. By which time the injury has either sorted itself, caused more harm, or I've gone to my local physio anyway. For bigger things, like IDK, I break a leg, I'll be in the A&E and processed through that. I don't believe the NHS should be used for a lot of the things it is used for, I also believe it's horribly mis-managed. Problem is we don't see those people, they are not the nurses, doctors, porters who are struggling in the crap pay, conditions, hours and often against the poor management. So yeah it's already a two tier system, I can bypass it so do if I can. I don't think the NHS will survive another term, it's the greatest ball and chain this country has. We can never get rid of it, we can never fund it to cover every nuance of humanities needs. I also feel having the right to die; euthanasia, will relieve a huge burden. I for one fully plan on not having my backside and mouth wiped 3 times a day by a care team, I'll be going private for that day i suspect. edit: forgot to say the NHS should totally be there to cover those who cannot afford, a health service to keep you healthy or get your the body/mind to be able to at least in part keep yourself healthy where possible.

  12. Every other manufacturer with start/stop or AGM batteries requires adapting a new battery. Everything from Land Rover to Hyundai. Do people do it every time? Nope. some it’s done by a combination of buttons on the dash, others by diagnostic tool. Coolant/anti freeze whatever you want to call it, you are correct it is made up of 2 components - water which actually has the heat transfer abilities and then the additive which contains the anti freeze, rust inhibitors, lubricants, colouring and bitrex. The silicat bag is there to slowly deposit the additives back into the coolant mix to extend the coolant life in some cases to 15 years! Without the silicat bag and using the new coolant g12evo you can expect coolant to last easily 10 years. Whereas old coolants contained acids and needed replacing a lot more often. And what you say about customers and staff in dealers being brainwashed is spot on - a lot of the time the staff will push a sale without actually knowing if it’s what people require, simply because they are told to push it

  18. FOLLOW THE AUTHOR ON TWITTER Follow @simonharris_mbd A source has confirmed exactly why the police helicopter was flying overhead last night. He said, ‘None of your f*cking business. That’s why.’ ‘Actually I apologise. In future, before my airborne officers and their ground-based colleagues scramble at a moment’s notice to hunt for someone, I will ask them to prepare a full itinerary, flight plan, and minute by minute altitude projections to be published on our social media channels.’ ‘Once this information is available online, members of the public will then have a five-day consultation period where they can raise any objections if they have toddlers who need to get to sleep or a Border Collie called Steve who is particularly sensitive to helicopter noise.’ ‘In the event that our crazed lunatic hunt proposals meet the requirements of the general public who spend their whole lives complaining that they can never see a copper around, we will then make a detailed application to the Home Secretary.’ ‘Once we have this seal of approval, the police helicopter will be launched, and a loudspeaker will be attached to the bottom to constantly broadcast a rolling message about ‘wot they up to.’ A source within the Emergency Services Union told us that it is easy to figure out what all the flashy flashy means in the neighbourhood. It is thought that his advice could revolutionise Facebook groups all over the world. He said, ‘Blue nee naw? Someone been naughty.’ ’Green and yellow nee naw? Someone not well.’ ’Red nee naw? Something on fire.’ ’Just Eat bike? Someone order kebab.’

  19. Just for clarity and to prevent misinformation. A MOT pass does not mean a car is road-legal or even road-worthy, only that it's passed the basic checks included during the MOT at the time of testing. The last set of UK regs predate LEDs, during our time in the EU the ECE regs were approved and it's these which mean LED lights can be used on UK road. However, a drop-in conversion will not meet the ECE regs so it's technically not road-legal despite the MOT pass.

  20. You can see it’s a defa system. Looks like this is the cable in your video with the earth and a description about connecting it. https://www.defa.com/content/uploads/Documentation/Downloads/Technical-information/Electrical-preheating/1920254.pdf I apologise if I’ve been over cautious but I stand by my belief that you need to be sure before connecting wires direct to ground or live.

  29. Were they to be done, they are not having to do further checks, that is fake news, most of the time you are simply waved through at the sight of your passport and then only if the booth is manned and the person is not chatting to their colleague. You go through French border control at Dover and UK border control at Calais, when the French take industrial action they work to rule meaning they then do check everybodies documents, that was the cause of the massive delays last year which îs proof of what I am saying from first hand experience, most people most of the time are simply waved through, their passports having already been scanned at the check in booth which was always the case pre Brexit.

  30. The bag is there to increase the service life of the genuine coolant, it will still function without it there, just means it will need changing earlier (based on testing the coolant first of course) No one has said fitting a new battery won’t work without adaptions - but they are there for a reason and that reason is charging profiles, start stop control, battery capacity management. Basically it is used to keep the agm battery charged properly and also to allow the start stop to work at its best, seems you think the people that designed the car are more on a mission to get you than to actually correctly fix the car with their procedures. Ive seen many a coolant bottle split so just keep that in mind - a 2 year warranty does little to help when you are stuck at the side of the road with no coolant

  36. Hi everyone, just updating on my car. Found what the problem was and it was a faulty rear shocker. The rear shocker had a manufacturing fault but it looks perfectly fine by visually looking at it. Just wanted everyone to know if they had this problem or even going through this problem. Hope this helps.

  38. I've never owned a V8 (been lucky to drive quite a few though) and it's an itch I would love to scratch before the fun police ban such things (Said tongue in cheek...of course). As I will be retiring sometime around the end of the decade, time is running out for me to get something like the F type and still be able to afford to run it, so although I told myself I was done with silly cars after my current one, maybe...

I gave my dashcam footage and screenshot of the SORN information to my insurers, the latter the next day and they we're most grateful and I think that the Ferrari will only be covered for 3P,F&T, so he could find himself with a BIG bill for his car, my car, plus my expenses for legal costs and hire car charges.

  44. Its not exactly something I would recommend for a DIY job for anyone, but then i dont know your skill or tool levels. If you are having to ask then I am assuming you may not want to attempt it really. Not without someone that is skilled assisting you. Do you have the correct timing tools? The torque settings as well as all the replacement bolts that are stretch bolts, including the engine mount bolts and their new torque settings? Also a lot of people forget that to properly bleed the cooling system after requires a diagnostic routine being ran on the car to remove all the air bubbles from the system

  45. Assume this was a similar issue to the Octavia 2L TDi where the water pump sticks closed due to different expansion rates to between the metal sleave & plastic parts? My Octavia is at ~210k km & I'm assuming the "original" timing belt. My dealer recommended to change it at the last service but I rejected as I said I'd had the water pump changes around 120k km as a "warranty repair" & they would have changed the timing belt at the same time. However, the dealer couldnt find any reference to the change in the system. I'll probably get in done in the new year during the service. should be around 230k & 10 years young by then.

  47. ACC is the best thing about the car (except for the overtaking undertaking glitch). All you need is a good understanding of what is a safe distance to the car in front or better anticipation of the road ahead so you can drive in the appropriate lane. All things a good driver should be able to do ACC or no ACC.
    1 point
  48. I first had ACC 7 years ago, initially I was frustrated when it started to slow down a long way behind a slower vehicle, but now I just take over the accelerator to maintain speed (or slow down gently) and use the extra time it gives me to pull out and overtake safely. Compared to CC on busy British roads it's a game changer IMHO, and I never want to go back to CC again.

  49. The centre pin is the feed to the cigarette lighter - the upper pin is for always live, the very bottom pin is for switched live. You dont want to be messing around with what you are saying to do as you are backfeeding an entire Terminal 15 or Terminal 30 circuit which can cause big issues... There is not a whole lot of room to run the wires but there is more than enough to run them easily by running over the top and back down. The fusebox is extremely easy to access and takes around 10 seconds to unclip the slow release and the 2 upper clips to drop the glovebox door and expose it fully. And there are many many ground points in the area and the glovebox light is not one of them, you have the entire metal dashboard frame with around 3 big bolts and a few smaller torx screw mounting points all in the glovebox area and the A pillar area. Its no different on a MK3 - run wires down the A pillar (properly!! and not over the airbag) remove the dash end piece and flap the glovebox down to find and attach to the suitable grounds and fuse.
