Battery is toast… (or engine is seized) and I’m going with you know it’s not the second option 😂 The plates will be cracked or sulfated in the battery meaning it’s true storage capacity and output capacity is massively reduced enough to pull the voltage down that low4 points

Update on my "Old Mother Hubbard" tale from last night. Well, as it turned out the cupboard (AKA the Fridge) was not bare after all. Lurking at the back hidden by my wife's overflowing bags of veg & herbs (which seem to take up at least 75% of the fridge) was the remains of the Lamb Chop stew I made a few nights ago. Result. It still had some spuds in it as well so straight on the hob for a slow re-heat with some buttered bread to mop up the last of the juices. Just the job. However, The fridge definitely is bare now so I'll be getting some frozen mince out of the freezer for tomorrow & tonight will be a cheeky Kebab takeaway I think.3 points

I've let North Cork Gardai know. They have a few. If they cant spare one then they will probably send you a hachet. If they are all spoken for then you may end up with just a golf club ( which would be a bit second rate but easier to explain ) They gathered up a few earlier this year2 points

The Ministry of Truth getting ever more dirty in its campaigning. More resignations and less Con MPs re-standing but the risk of ever more loony candidates is the worry. Oddschecker showing Cons are about 10 to 1 whereas Labour is 1 to 10 on it seems, cannot wait but the mess they will inherit. Not that there is no money but there is £2.5T debt up from £1T only 14 years ago. Not fixing the roof in the good time 2015 to 2020.2 points

Just imagine what it is like for those not near London with a choice of places within 33 miles, like on a Northern or Western island or just rural areas where they think electrified cars are an economic means of transport.2 points

I went out for tea tonight, to the Motorist about 20 miles from Leeds. Fish and chips (pre seasoned chips, or more accurately, fries) and a sort of Bakewell tart with Bourbon custard On the way out, I bought some of Top Gear's very own, Mr Clonkson's, Hawkstone IPA. Well, why not, I thought, he needs the money. ...and on the way home I found my Jaaaag was quicker in a straight line than a Taycan with the big, faster battery (not the full Turbo S though). Although, the Taycan driver said he could not only hear my car, but could smell the unburnt fuel too Anyhoo, if anyone is in the area and fancies a cuppa, pastry, or even a meal I can recommend it. Nice venue. Some interesting cars inside and masses of gifts for petrol heads (could sort out a lot of Christmas presents for the right types) and a lot of booze. Even James May's 'Asian Parsnip Gin' is stocked Lots of hot wheels and such like too. In the car park there were a couple of Lambos, a Ferrari, a Bently, several Porsches and a rather nice Jaaaaaag F Type it was only a wet Wednesday night, so not a proper 'meet' as such. They open Weekends and Wednesday night as a rule, but check their events calendar for other times and specific events. Oh and it's not the sort of place where stupid brain-dead morons go and rev the nuts of their engines with 'pops and bangs' remaps, quite the opposite in fact. Lots of signs saying slow down and other grown up things like that Disclaimer: acceleration testing was done nowhere near the venue 😛1 point

It sounds like the auto saved his life so definitely best for him. Was he in the car on the river bed or pushed out into the garage? In either case the car opening the doors saved him.1 point

I'd swap the sensors right to left one at a time until the fault moves. That's the faulty sensor. Part numbers can be found here; https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/OCT/753/9/919/9190501 point

Here an example, it's behind this cover of the trunk door (aka 5th door here in GR) https://d3bsbe39k8p2a0.cloudfront.net/images/product/6/9/2/4/0/28_1800x1255.JPG 097440623 VAG cover for door inner panel rear lid trim panel (leatherette/cloth) https://www.sbazar.cz/tsvoboda.51/detail/175072292-nova-tapeta-5dveri-skoda-felicia-seda-097440623 I put new nylon behind so any rain drops that may pass inside won't touch that wooden panel and will be driven to drain holes that the door has.1 point

Thanks, I blame the cheap keyboard, it has sticky keys that often print none or twice, plus the battery died very shortly after that (I can use a battery that's too low for digital stuff and the keyboard will be happy with it for a very long time and wear it right down, bit like my TV remotes) - plus of course I'm a poor (slow, one-finger) typist. 😆1 point

Do not rely on any warning messages or warning lights on the car, often they show when things have got further than is best, be proactive by preventing most warning messages and lights from coming on by keeping the whole car in at least reasonable condition if not good condition. Warning lights in the past were often known as "idiot lights" sometimes unfairly, but not always. Cars have complex computer stuff on them now but again many of these these shouldn't be relied on as when to take actions of maintenance (and servicing). The oil service message is more of a reminder than any real measure. For the engine oil and filter change on a 9-10 year old car you don't know the history of I suggest unless you only do lots of motorway driving that you change the engine oil and filter at the annual mileage (9,400 miles) or time whichever is soonest. Also bear in mind of course that there are far more important components and systems on the car than the engine, brakes, steering and suspension (all three include the tyres) safety electrics (lights, horn, wipers, etc,) and windows and mirrors. The garage might have used the correct or good quality oil, some do, but certainly not all, some might tell you they have changed the engine oil when all they have done is reset the reminder message. You could have a look under the engine and see if there much oil around, gravity usually takes an external oil there, and see if it looks like possibly the oil and filter have been changed, more difficult possibly 9 months later of course. I personally either change the oil and filter myself or get it done a short time after getting the car if I'm not sure when the oil and filter was last changed and which oil was used, allowing time to discover leaks and/or consumption. Xavier is joking about the price of the oil, there are loads more expensive and possibly better oils about, whichever oil you use it just needs to be good quality whether in the engine, transmission or elsewhere. People who buy a model such as a VRS unusually drive them like a model such as a VRS so the cars probably need more servicing and maintenance than other models not less. There are so many beliefs about oil and which to use that you will get multiply views and opinions but for the oil consumption I suggest you ask about that or research on the 'Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)' forum. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/235-skoda-octavia-mk-iii-2013-2020/ Good luck.1 point

Why are we focusing so much on checking wheel speed sensor resistances? Do as I suggested in my first post - you need to be checking at the abs module for power, a load tested ground and canbus voltages. Checking specific components (and not fully) on the abs system is not going to help you find a non connection to a module sorry.1 point

That 12v socket (aka lighter socket) in the front is something that I truly miss, what on earth Skoda were thinking about when they removed it I don't know. I have one (12v socket) in the boot which I have to use with an extension cable for my tyre compressor and car vacuum cleaner.1 point

Skoda Parts stuff has arrived. Stuff was ordered on Monday, shipped on Tuesday and arrived Friday. Very impressive. This was borne from an earlier post where I noticed the cover for the rear seat backrest Bowden cable thingy looked different: So here they are. The part that will clip into the Bowden cable thingy looks as expected, but the bit around the bushing that slots into the car is a little less obvious: Maybe once the seat cover is in place, this will become a bit more obvious. Also got random bits of replacement trim, such as: Replacements for the rear of the seats, for the Isofix. More to spruce them up as they look a little tired. Also this: The mat for the wireless charger. Now, it looks like the mat has three pegs on the underside, presumably to keep it in place: Which don't marry up to anything on the charger mat I've installed, so it sits a bit proud: I suspect I'll either need to do some more homework, or frankly cut those pegs off, as it looks like it'll fit ok without them. The total cost was €56.26, which looks to be £48.13 on the credit card. The days of nearly €2 to the pound are long gone. I also got these in the mail: The ring terminals for the ground wires for the charger and heated steering wheel, due to wanting to use the M8 bolt on the dashboard frame. From 3 way components via eBay for £2.40 for 10. So loads spare. The size of the terminal crimp bits were just a bit wider than my crimper, so a bit of fiddling in advance was needed: But a bit of persistence got it all crimped up. The first attempt was a bust where the crimp was just too loose and the wire slipped off but not able to get back on. Anyways, time to get them into the car. I read somewhere random on the internet to use a zip tie through the fuse box terminal to help locate where it should go, so gave that a try: It works. With the terminal also latching onto the zip tie, just a bit of careful pushing and pulling and it sorta slots in place. I imagine it clicks into place, but they're tiny terminals so couldn't rely on hearing. The terminal gets into a point where it doesn't pull out, unless with a lot of force. Or, in typical fashion, when you try and insert a fuse into the slot, which then pushes the terminal out. So inserting the terminal again, I used the purple locking bar back in place, which then allowed the fuse to go in. I genuinely can't tell if the fuse is in place and connected to the terminals. Can only hope for the best. So with the wireless charger fuse in place, it was the heated steering wheel next into fuse 4. But attempting to remove the purple locking bar was met with disaster: Decided to snap off and fly somewhere. Luckily the seats aren't all bolted up yet, so lifted it up and found it launched down the centre tunnel: So, left with the remains in the fusebox, obviously one of the tools I know I don't have is needle nose pliers. Rummaging through the garage, the next best thing was a set of circlip pliers, with what looked the closest to needle nose pliers. Some faff but eventually got it free: So pulled it out and inserted the wire intended for the heated steering wheel: It's the silver bit sticking out in fuse 4, the top left, left of the 5A and above the 10A. You can see the new glow fuse at 5A for the wireless charger (I'm hoping that's fuse 16). I tried again to put the new fuse in and out the terminal popped again, so repeat install, and this time, get the remains of the purple locking bar and inserted in partway, with the hope it locks that first fuse terminal in place. I have no idea if that was successful, but the two fuses are now in place: I'll probably have to keep the glovebox disassembled when I power the car up, just in case I need to go back to the fusebox to double check stuff. So the only other thing left is to replace the old ring terminal on the wireless charger harness: With the new one: The wire on this is quite small as evidenced by the crimp probably not securing the wire as much as I'd like. Hopefully it's sufficient. So now they're the right size for that larger captive stud/nut: Hopefully I've routed enough slack in the wiring so that it tidies up ok. So yeah, spoils of war: If anyone knows where I can source a replacement, I'd greatly appreciate it! I've no idea where to start looking. I suppose I could still use the remains and insert it all the way in, and just reply on some pliers should I ever need to remove it again, so probably one of those things that will always bug me if not sorted. Worse case scenario, could source a fusebox from a scrapyard, and then essentially throw most of it away. Maintenance: £1757.55 Upgrades: £840.50 (+£50.53) Miscellaneous: £603.581 point

Unlikely to be burnt as the dip switch gives only a small signal to the power electronics which actually switches on the lights. The dipped lights are poor compared with full beam on my CR 1.6 TDi. I too fitted better bulbs, which helps. Check the earthing as said above if the light colour is not white.1 point

6,500 miles done now in the MINI. On my own i get pretty much 3.3-3.5 miles to a kWh and with a passenger 3.7 miles. Because i have to behave. This is at temps between freezing and 10*oC. & what i got yesterday. 2 people, 2 folding bikes in the rear, one e-Bike and one a push bike. I will see how it goes on my tod today & this week as the weather get warmer. The bike was good other than a bit of a warp in the rear disc that is squeaking, not just newness, it will need replaced not straightened. The bike climbed OK carrying 115kG but is a bit hard over rough surfaces and terrible on rough tracks. (The last model of this bike had front suspension forks but that would not sort it for me, i need the Brooks sprung saddle on i think, i will see how it goes today.) Seat post /battery removed before folding and lifting in (out) makes a difference as it is heavy.1 point

June 2023. Following on from changing the wheels and wanting a touring car type of "vibe". . I got the idea in my head about doing the headlights yellow. . So ordered some film but though I'd try it on the fogs first. . .. ive done vinyl before but never done any wet application, which this called for. . Anyway with the fogs done i decided against doing the full headlights - it's quite a faf and I don't think I'd get the full lights to be neat enough for my liking.1 point
