I think a lot of what to do with it is what version stereo system in the car and also what what prepped for upgrade availability like Smartlink, Carplay, Android auto etc.

My car is a 2015 but MY16 Octavia with Amundsen MIB2 Sat Nav no cd but 2 SD slots and Smartlink ready.

I got bored of waiting for the seller to respond to my queries so after 3 days of no replies I decided to open a dispute and straight away the seller responded.  The best thing is the only answer he gave to all my questions was where I asked him what that Fakra to USB lead was for and where is it meant to be connected and he responded "this is for oem factory usb cable friend" which contradicts where he said the other day "our usb cable cannot support original USB" so go figure!!!

Ok mine is Amundsen mib1, cd player and 2 SD slots.

It was not carplay ready.

Maybe I have a more simple plug.

  • The job is never finished until you leave DNA behind!

  • Small update as have now gone back in and put a generic external microphone in place. I opted not to put it behind the trim where factory one is as it's blanked off on driver side and didn't think it

  • That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine.   If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option.

Why don't you just take a quick look at the usb and at least you will have an idea it is a quick job to get it out to see.

I am still waiting on my tools to remove the unit... I can't get it out yet...

i was wondering, as he CD player will be useless, why not fit an extra storage in place.

Something like this, it seems to be called a single din dash pocket.

Left mine in place as I will likely return it to stock when I sell (I only have most basic MIB1 with no nav etc) Blanking plate or a tray are the obvious options if removing the old. Here is a much cheaper route:

Halfords always used to keep the removal tools in stock - they are the standard VW/Audi ones.

The unit in the glovebox IS the infotainment on the Octavia 3 - the screen in the centre console is literally just a screen.

Not anymore, in this thread the screen is the full infotainment and the unit in glovebox is a paperweight.

If you're ever in need of a replacement screen or glovebox unit, this is the place to come lol

I will also go back to stock when I sell mine (if the buyer wants to) but the extra storage could be useful as the glove box ils so tiny.

Th one with a handle could be cool, when I take the unit out I will check how a pocket can be fixed.

The ISO harness they should have sent me so that my USB would work is this one but they sent one that doesn't have the C3 & C4 pins fitted so I can try and add those pins to provide the power needed to the USB.

It could work and could not...

If the cable that connects to the yellow one is the same as the one it a previous post I posted, the 4 pins have data+5v+ground.

As you said, the yellow cable only carries the data so you should test the leads on the adaptor to see if any of the 4 pins are connected to the power of the usb (I don't know if I am clear)

If they are, you shoud cut the wires providing the 5v as it will be provided by the outside cables.

Yes I understand what you are trying to say and won't be be problem(I am an electrical engineer by trade).

I put in a dispute with Aliexpress over everything as wasn't getting anywhere with the seller and they have found in my favour and just had a partial refund back into my bank today for £75 so happy days.

Anyway I have just ordered a full quadlock connector kit so I can pay around with rewiring the usb and will also have a look at wiring in the factory mic.

Oho 75£...  A good refund.

Ok with your job, you will be, indeed confortable rewiring every thing.

Keep us in touch. I am interested by the Factory mic. I was thinking of getting a fakra to Jack and run it to the unit, but if you can get it from the iso connector, it would be great.

I think it will depend on how / where your mic is connected to how easy it might be, I only picked up on the possibility of doing mine from this thread

I can already see what I assume are the 2 mic wires connected to the Quadlock on the blue ISO connector in my car, so hopefully I should be able to get it to work.

There are 4 options,  pre-wired, build your own male end, build your own female end, build your own male and female ends.

I went for the build your own both ends so that I have all the correct size pins to be able to add to existing harness as it works out cheaper easier that trying to identify and buy the pins I really need.

You are on the right track.

The schematic taken from the post you quoted shows the mic to be + on B1 and - on B7.

I think I will go for the wired harness, use it as an extension then split the ones that need to be re routed
